Always down to grab lunch with a friend. It was Friday afternoon, and we didn't want something too heavy or far from the house, so we settled on sushi at Tokyo Sakura! Going in, there was a huge dining space and no current wait. The restaurant mood can be best described as fast casual. That day, we ordered 1x rainbow roll and 1x volcano roll bento box. Moving on with my review, I had my doubts, but this place is pretty good! I'll just throw it out there; the sushi quality isn't gourmet per se, but much higher than some spots I've visited throughout the area. The rainbow roll possessed a nice amount of fish and savory with every bite. The volcano roll had a nice crispy exterior and a nice balance of contrasting flavor with the cooked salmon filling. The creamy ginger salad and gyzoza were a nice addition to the meal as well. Furthermore, the entire meal was a great value as each bento box was only around $10-11! Also, service was friendly and brought out our food relatively quickly. Overall, if you are craving sushi and variety at a great price, look no further, Tokyo Sakura has you covered! Tokyo Sakura is a newly opened restaurant in Baymeadows and is located next door to Little Caesars Pizza. Their bento box portions are very filling. I had the Teriyaki Beef with Shrimp tempura bento box. It came with Teriyaki beef, shrimp tempura, dumplings, California rolls, fried rice (.50 cents additional), and salad with ginger dressing. I had leftovers to eat later. We also ordered some Tuna rolls and Shrimp tempura rolls. Those were some fat rolls! Big mouthfuls! Food prices are reasonable and freshly made. Good service. I love the food and generally get the shrimp and beef with veggies and rice. I love the hibachi style, but the winner for me is the Dynamite Roll. I don't know if it's always been this way, but the rolls were much bigger this time and it comes with salmon for only a little over $6. Very affordable and you truly can't beat the price. I also like that they have a rewards program that gets you closer to free food that can also be used. read more

2 1/2 stars I learned about this place and of the $25 for $50 restaurant.com deal from Yelper Lea P. Since I had some credits to redeem, I decided to redeem it for this place. If you've ever ate a Sarku japan in the Avenues mall or other malls, this restaurant basically serves the same food. It features made-to-order teriyaki and sushi. The food was good and the portion was generous and with the certificate it was an excellent value, even was good value without the certificate. The service however, left much to be desired. When my family walked in, we were not greeted, they (3 of them) kinda just stared at us. There was a bad odor in the restaurant as well. I took a menu by the booth and look awhile to review it. When I finally when up to order, still no greeting. A guy walked in after us was greeted tho, so idk if you have to be a regular or what. They didn't have soft shell crab and another ingredient to make some of the rolls I wanted. The only nice person was the Hispanic guy making my order, so I did put tip in the tip bowl for that reason. I wasn't sure about this place but The food here was surprisingly pretty good (reminded me of super tasty mall food court chinese from back in the day)! I rate the food 4 stars... and the overall experience I'd rate 3 stars (I wish I could give a 3.5 rating). I ordered a chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura bento box for lunch and I was expecting a small plate of food, but it was enormous. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and I enjoyed the fried rice that came with it (although there were only about 3 small pieces of carrots and so I would've liked more veggies mixed in). The shrimp tempura was crunchy and tasted good too. The box came with 4 California rolls but I'd say the sushi was mediocre at best (maybe because the steam from being closed in the box affected it by the time I'd gotten back to my office?). For that reason, If I come back I'd likely just stick to the habachi entrees. Although the place seemed neat and tidy on the inside, I did knock off a star because I wasn't too crazy about the area it's in- it was a bit rough for my tastes (I was approached by a pan handler as I left and as a lady- that made me uncomfortable). Also, I ding them on the fact that they charged .50 cents for shrimp sauce.... really!? Id rather a place add .50 into their price and just give me shrimp sauce, than make me feel like I'm being nickled and dimed. So a little backstory, I'm having a lazy day since I work on my birthday in a few days. Anyway, I always order chicken and mixed veggies with white rice, and add shrimp for around $12.** at China garden. Of all the Chinese restaurants in jax I've been to, the one on old kings across from family dollar (China garden) is amazing, always been fresh, quality veggies, and I ask for the jumbo shrimp. It's awesome. Tell em the guy who always orders this same meal sent you here lol. Unfortunately, they aren't on Doordash. I found this Japanese restaurant, which I'm sure has amazing stuff, but the chicken and shrimp with mixed veggies (some different veggies) was sub par. Maybe it's me, and I'm spoiled, but I just couldn't finish it. Little amount of sauce, chicken and small shrimp tasted "off." And for $14.xx before the extra fees from Door dash and tip, $24 for something I couldn't finish. Even my cat, who I share a piece of the big shrimp with, didn't want??! I hope they work on making this one better. Maybe stick with the sushi, that's where these places really shine. Making sushi is something that takes effort and practice, so I don't doubt the skill of the cooks here. I'm more disappointed because of the cost, and myself. We order from Tokyo Sakura about 1-2x per month. The bourbon chicken is a big hit. I personally enjoy the bento boxes. The only real downside is when the salad or other cold items are packaged together with the hot foods in the same container. I've consistently had great food and care in packaging from here. Hidden in a weird little strip mall but this place is a diamond in the rough. I ordered some sushi takeout and each different roll was really good. I assumed that with the low prices that the rolls would be tiny and ended up ordering three for myself but they were nicely sized cuts of salmon and tuna. I only finished two rolls before tapping out. Really good stuff and a phenomenal value. I look forward to trying their hot dishes soon too. read more

Basic assortment of rolls or teriyaki. Low number of raw rolls, some shellfish and they were out of eel. Many rolls have cream cheese. No sashimi, so everything is rice rolls. I tried a tuna & avocado roll, and salmon & avocado roll. I give them kudos that the fish tasted very fresh, the rolls were packed with fish and had less rice around the edges than many places do. Served with an appropriate amount of wasabi and ginger. On the two roll special, it was only $8.55 including tax. No alcohol, no hot tea. Beverages are bottled or canned only. Also no soups. I plan to try the dumplings next time I'm in, based on the reviews. Try their chili hot sauce with your rolls if you like spicy. It was very good, even better than sriracha on them. read more

Ordered takeout from here twice now, and both times have been crappy service. From the person taking the order on the phone to the actual workers inside the restaurant when you pick up the food, not at all the type of customer service you expect from a newly opened establishment. On my last order on the phone I was asked "When can you pick it up?" and at the restaurant, they told me shrimp sauce was not included even though my bento box had SUSHI in it. Not to mention, the first time I'd ordered takeout there was shrimp sauce included! Food is okay. (Not the Sakura that I remember from the food court on the mall though) And customer service definitely needs some work. I probably won't be back, if not for a while. read more

My husband got a deal for $25 worth of $50 meals at Restaurant.com. We were surprised when we came in as the server from Sarku Avenues is now working there. She recognized us and immediately work on our orders. My husband and I both ordered the bento box. Chicken teriyaki and Shrimp Tempura for me while he got the Beef Teriyaki also with Shrimp Tempura. Both were delicious and have large portions which also includes 4 pieces of sushi, fried rice, salad and 3 pieces of dumplings! Whew! Yes that was a lot of food but they were all good! The Tempura was cooked perfectly but I was looking for the sauce specifically for the Tempura but they only have the soy sauce. We also tried their Chicken with Shrimp Teriyaki which is awesome! And since we have extra more dollars left on our deal, we had Shrimp Tempura, (my new favorite sushi !) and New York Rolls for take out. I love the food BUT when it comes to customer service watch out! Friday night I placed an order with Postmates to get $20 of food from Toyko Sakura Around 8pm. It said delivery would be around 9 . So about 10 till 9 I checked on the delivery and it had been canceled I thought maybe if I called them they could have it delivered another way as I'm in an electric wheelchair. Work super close to this location, so it's always a good option for lunch. I normally get the chicken teriyaki, or a bento box with the chicken. Never had any issues. Today I ventured out and got the two roll special... and boyyy. I got the Shrimp Tempura Roll, and there's has Avacado in it. The avacado was browning... the shrimp tempura was almost soggy.. I also tried the dynamite roll which I think was just salmon and cream cheese, at it was fried. Also not impresssed.. i couldn't eat more than 2 pieces of each. The bento boxes and the chicken teriyaki lunches are a go to, but I would think twice before the sushi. read more

New Teriyaki & Sushi restaurant on Baymeadows. Establishment is very clean, staff is very friendly, and the food quality & price is great. You can order to go or dine in the restaurant as well. Definitely would eat her again. Definitely recommend getting the Bento Box, which you get a salad, California roll, dumplings, and your choice of meat with white of fried rice.
