Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q - Half rack ribs with mashed potatoes & gravy & macaroni & cheese! - Barbeque Near Me - Council Bluffs, Iowa

The food and service are always good. The restaurant is always clean. I haven't tried a single bad thing on the menu yet. From the nicely sized loaded taters to the spicy hot links, to the tender ribs, to the succulent pulled pork, it's all so good. They even have great curly fries, and I'm not usually a big fan of curly fries because they are so often dry. One of my favorites from here is the open-face sandwich. It's Texas toast, mashed potatoes, brisket, and gravy. I add their pickled jalapenos on top of it, and it is heaven on a plate! Another thing about them that I love is that their ribs aren't swimming in sauce. They use a wonderful rub on them, and they have some really good sauces that you can add yourself if you want, so you can control how messy your ribs are. I find that I never really need the sauce because the ribs are flavorful, moist, and tender on their own. It's smoky goodness through and through. If you do prefer sauces, rest assured, they have some tasty options for you. The portion sizes are not skimpy, and we always feel like we get our money's worth. They have a nice, big menu board that is easy to read, and the prices for everything are clear. They also offer some great free condiments that elevate the menu offerings. Over by the soda machines, they have a small salad bar-style setup that includes sliced raw onions, pepperocinis, pickled jalapenos, dill pickle slices, and the like. It really makes the meal! read more

Amazing service and amazing food!!! Loved it those ribs melt in your mouth!!! That potato salad is to die for!!! Thank you for the great experience. I personally had the Carolina pulled pork sandwich, I added jalapeños and the hot BBQ sauce. Yum yum yum!! Keep rocking on. read more

Food was great the service was awesome! A lot of food for your money , the place was super clean

Menu board is confusing and kid taking the order is confused. Food is ok. Nothing really seems hot, particularly the mac and cheese. It's not warm at all, but also not a congealed glob, so it's got that going for it. Baked beans are good and don't taste like celery seed (what is it with BBQ places wanting to put that nastiness in everything?) I like that they have a little condiment bar with pickles and jalapeños; they are not the best quality but it's definitely a nice touch. My husband thinks it's a good deal for the money. He likes that they offer turkey as a choice. All in all, I think the food is pretty boring, and everything in the dining room seems worn out. That being said, there just aren't a lot of restaurants in Council Bluffs and there is something about this place that feels really comfortable to me. We've been here a few times and I always seem to enjoy it for some undefinable reason. read more

Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q - The oddest thing is the mac & cheese. Is it supposed to be served cold? Kinda like macaroni salad? - Barbeque Near Me - Council Bluffs, Iowa

It is our go to place for take out ribs and though they are always delicious ... Today I had some of the best I've ever tasted. Service is always great. I love the fact the ribs are smoked with a rub and they give you sauce on the side! read more

This review is based on one thing. Their smoked ham, hence the 2 stars instead of 1. My mom really wanted smoked ham for thanksgiving and hog wild was nearby and said they had smoked ham, so she put in an order for a 4-5 ham, which was $53. I was expecting a whole smoked ham, I love the bone for making soup later. But nope, it was boneless, that was the first disappointment. Warmed it up for thanksgiving dinner and tasted it. If it was smoked, I couldn't tell and it had the consistency of plastic and no flavor at all, not even ham, it was just a piece of plastic that looked like ham. No one really ate it, so I decided to cube it up and put it in a pot of beans. It completely ruined my beans and no one really ate that either. So in the end I ended up throwing out the soup and the rest of the ham. Will I go back and try something else, probably not. The staff was really nice though. read more

Tried for the first time for a quick lunch grab. I thought for what I was getting the price was high but not too bad. $20 for 2 meats, 3 sides. Then I got home, ready to eat. The meats were each wrapped in foil which I thought was nice to keep them hot. They were not. Pulled pork was decent at best, but cold. The "brisket" was a small chunk of cold, flavorless, roast. The mashed potatoes and gravy were cold. The green beans were fine and at least warm. The Cole slaw? No thanks. All in all, I won't be returning. I would rather have the run down, questionable Long John's back in that building. read more

So let's start with the good, I ordered the open face sandwich which came with brisket, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Since I'm trying to try a lot of restaurants around me, I decided to order some curly fries, as well. The food was pretty good but was messy with gravy leaking all over into the bag... As for the bad, in addition to the need that happened with the gravy, they also forgot the fries. This isn't awful but it looks like this is a pattern with them... read more

Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q - ows pulled pork with gravy - Barbeque Near Me - Council Bluffs, Iowa

August 18, 2019 Sunday - 2:15 PM for lunch 3 Adults Atmosphere - 3 stars Food - 2 star Service - 3 star Background - Just landed in Omaha and headed to the hotel. BBQ was the choice by the group. Atmosphere - Place screams chain restaurant, but I learned it is a very small chain while there. Or they only list the nearby spots. Table clothes look like they picked up some used ones from Pizza Hut. Place could have been cleaner. Food Drink - Just water. Dinner - I how do I want my brisket? Sandwich sounded good. The meat was dry and the BBQ sauce on the table labeled hot was anything but hot. I was very disappointed in the sandwich. Service - Like many BBQ joints you pay after ordering at the register. They should call your name or number when the order is ready. The guest that was in line after us told us our food was ready. I did hear her number called out. Future - Nope. read more

Alexis took the time to send my experience over the top . The past few months there has been an emphasis on detail . Great job

Really good BBQ. Manager went out of his way to make sure everything was correct with our food. Would recommend to anyone wanting BBQ in Council Bluffs area. read more

Experience my last visit to Hog Wild BBQ today. Food was mediocre at best but that was not the issue. During the visit at the drive-thru a fight broke out between employees throwing punches and not certain a manager was present as it was handled poorly with the fight moving to the dining area. Sitting at the window, my and my wife's ears were filled with several f-bombs, employees calling each other the "n" word that rhymes with Roy Rogers horse's name. No control of the situation and an employee storms out quitting the job. Unfortunate situation but its indicative of the management or lack there of. Food not worth the time. I'll find another place. Hog Wild definitely went Wild today!!! read more

What a hot mess! We walked in about 11:45 am Thursday morning. The kid behind the counter was having a meltdown (several times). Apparently one or more members of the staff hadn't shown up. He literally said loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear. If I don't get a f**king cigarette I'm going to kill someone. Three different times he shared that thought with us. It took about 15 minutes to order. We ordered two brisket sandwiches, one pulled pork, two sides of potatoes salad and one coleslaw. . Everything was already prepared and in sitting on the counter. All they had to do was get three plates, the buns then put the meat on the buns and add a side to each. Long story short another solid 15 minutes went by before the staff could pull this culinary feat off. I felt bad another couple sitting near us was still waiting for their order when ours came thru. I couldn't be sure but it seemed like I saw cobwebs on them, they'd been sitting there so long. Two other guys got up and left without getting their order. It just wasn't worth the drama of the guy at the front counter. read more

I can't believe it's been a long time since anyone has reviewed this place. Maybe if they had been it would be shutdown by now or at least gotten better. We went to the drive thru in February of 2021 and when I asked for the bones with my 3 meat dinner the person on the other end didn't know what that was. Seriously, you work at a bbq place and don't know what the bones are!? When we got home they had left the ribs out of our order. After I scolded them on the phone I was told if I came back to get them I'd get a free meal. I'm going to jump now to November of 2021. We haven't been back since the last incident and decided to see if things had gotten better. No, it's even worse now. Again in the drive thru with a 3 meat order, this time I know better than to ask for the bones, I ask for the ribs and pick my sides, get home no sides. Again I call and scold them and let them know that this time when I come back they would be refunding my entire order. I never received any type of coupon for a free dinner from the last time they messed up. When I did finally get to my dinner the food was less than good. The brisket came in large chunks and tasted like flavorless roast. The pulled chicken was also in chunks with little to no sauce on it, also flavorless. I actually never got to the ribs, I threw it all away. It wasn't even worth getting for free which I had to go all the way back to get along with my sides. This of course made everything cold. My question is, why is this place still open? Why do they continue to torture their customers with bad service and substandard food? For me it doesn't matter anymore, I'll never be going back. read more

We met some friends for dinner here tonight. Food was excellent! Everything had a great taste. We had the Caroline bbq sandwiches and fries. Everything came out fresh and warm. Our 2 1/2 year old had a pulled pork sandwich kids meal. Very generous portions for kids meals. Toddlers can be picky on what they like and he devoured the meat and most the fries. Customer service was great as well. We were greeted right away to take our ordered and food didn't take long. Everything was very clean and condiments were stocked and fresh. Love the fact there is a drive thru so can grab a good meal on way home from work some night! read more

My family went to Hog Wild, on a Friday at 4:30. The meat was okay at best. The sides were either wrong or cold. My daughter's curly fries was served cold. We have had way better BBQ. read more

Normally i would rate this place a five star, but after seeing there advertisement for brisket chili for months now. I tried it on my lunch break and could say i was extremely disappointed. I have never been inside this location always through the drive through and there meat is delicious. Well yes the chili did have big giant chunks of their brisket. Here is the issue, it is obvious it was not cooked together. Literally the chili tasted like Wendy's chili that had chunks of hog wild brisket added to it, right before it was served to me. There was not brisket flavor in the chili or chili flavor in the brisket. All in all it tasted lazy. read more

It just doesn't give me that really good BBQ taste. The last time I went, the wait was long and drinks were flat.

This visit was at 5:00 on a Sunday. Usually have good food and service here but the last 2 times it's been spotty, even though it's the dinner part of the day. There were only 8 people in the establishment at the time, including our 4. The employee who took our order at the register wasn't friendly at all, even seemed as if it was a bother helping us. When we picked up our food and thanked him, he just turned and walked away. 3 out of 4 plates had the sides mixed up with the entree, 2 of which we didn't even order. The full slab of ribs tasted and like they were sitting for quite awhile. Anyone who knows bbq knows that "old" taste. Pulled pork sandwich was a little dry. I'd skip this place if your looking for bbq, especially since there are so many other good bbq restaurants in the metro area. read more

Went through the drive thru tonight, it was late, 7:13 and they were out of a couple of things I ordered, no problem, I found alternatives. When I got home I realized that I was given one small order of fries instead of two large orders. I called to let them know what happened. Amber answered the phone, heard my issue, and asked if I wanted to come back for them. It was late and my children were already eating so I declined. Amber told me she would get her manager and then, while passing the phone to her manager said "What a b!+@h" very clearly and very loudly. I was appalled and proceeded to tell the manager first what his employer had said, and second what I actually called for. The manager did address my mixed up order and apologized for his employee's attitude. The food we received was good quality so we will be back, I just hope we don't encounter rude and tactless employees. read more

I agree with one of the reviews below that True BBQ should not be served with sauce already on it. I had the 3 meat combo with ribs, brisket and pulled chicken. It was good but I would prefer more smoke to the meat and not have to have as much barbecue sauce for flavor. The sides , beans and potato salad were very good as was the Texas toast. Average and acceptable but I would not likely be here again. read more

First strike was when my Brisket came out with BBQ Sauce all over it. GOOD BBQ places serve sauce on the side, GOOD Brisket stands on its own merits. This was far from either. The brisket was mediocre at best. Little or no smoke flavor, shredded beef with a sweet (too sweet) tomato based BBQ Sauce off the grocery shelf, think KC Masterpiece or, Heaven forbid, Cookie's. Baked Beans, same story, canned grocery store tasting, too sweet, beans. Yuck! Potato Salad? Mustard based and unremarkable in every way. This place just got marked off my to do list. I'll never be back........ read more

Order # 2127, Grand Opening Day. 2 meat dinner beef, reg drink togo - $12.71, not horrible for there 1st day being open and getting a lunch rush like food was going out of style. So I walk in and I'm greeted by a manager. That's good service, right? I say BBQ is big in my life and this place has some pretty good places to compete with... "Best BBQ in town" he says. That being said I'm expecting a lot from a franchise. I mean it is Kansas City BBQ and who doesn't love KC BBQ. So after about a 5 minute wait in line I order my food, "2 meat dinner, pork and brisket, 2 sides, coleslaw, Mac & cheese, and a regular drink Togo; $12.71 total price is not bad but about the same as Dickies and they give you a cool cup. After a 10 minute wait for food I hear order # 2127 served on a plate ready to eat dine in. I said sir that was Togo and he says not what the ticket said but hold on I'll put it in a Togo box. ...... Uhh who cares what the ticket said I need it Togo. Now to the best part. What we have all been waiting for, how was the food? The proportions were small. Since they had to re box it Togo they quick wrapped it in tin foil and sent it out. The pork was dry and had no flavor, the brisket was dry but had a great Smokey flavor to it. And the BBQ sauce was on point. My sides are iffy, the coleslaw was on the sweet side. Maybe that works in KC but up here in Iowa I like mine with salt, pepper and vinegar. And a good coleslaw is hard to make. The Mac and Cheese take like it was out of a bag, watered down and tried to thicken back up. Ohh yeah I also got 2 pieces of toast which were just boring. Toast with butter? Anyone can do that. So to not bag on this place to much more I am only giving them 2 stars. I will be nice and go back and try it again when it's not opening day and there not getting there asses kicked. But I hope with being a franchise and the location, remodeling you did you can get you BBQ game on point. Because as of right now I'd I'd rather drive and spend my money on some BBQ that has taste and meaning from the people cooking it. Better luck next time. Zz read more

Called in our order and picked it up at the drive thru everything was hot ready and reasonable. The baked beans are very tasty with a thick sauce. The coleslaw is bland. It s lacking something with some zing. The briscut and chicken are both tender. My husband prefers chicken on the bone this was off but he did get all dark meat we will return read more

Food was less than average. I ordered brisket, thinking it would be in slabs of meat like a normal brisket would. The meat was shredded and piled up on my plate with a dab of BBQ sauce on it. No smoke flavor whatsoever. The corn was bland, no seasoning, and the coleslaw was not very good. The price was reasonable. I guess I get what I paid for. No need to go back! read more

Not a fancy building but some of the best BBQ I've had outside of the South. Moist and flavorful with enough crust you know it was actually on a fire. Oh, and if you like sweet tea this is the place. They also have beer and a small bar. read more

Best BBQ around! Fast and fresh! Great flavor! The manager was so nice that we ended up booking our daughters graduation party.

Staff was friendly and meat was good...but the sides were store deli types and completely blah. Didn't like paying $10 for just the meat.

I visited there 2 nights ago and will Never go back! Absolutely terrible ribs that were NON edible and management that is completely useless. I told the mgr, Danielle, after driving all the way back that I would Never be back and I wouldn't recommend this BBQ restaurant to anyone. She offered me cobbler for my inconvenience of not being able to eat the ribs, which I didn't even want. Don't you think you would offer a person another type of meat considering this was suppose to be our dinner???? I will go anywhere but here to get BBQ!!! read more

We've been traveling on vacation, and have been trying a few BBQ places along the way (from Dallas - Iowa)... this was by FAR the WORST restaurant I've been to in a long time. The lack of cleanliness was absolutely outrageous. The tables were filthy, the sauce and salt & pepper shakers were so full of sauce on the outsides, and the bathroom appeared as though it hasn't been cleaned in weeks, maybe months. The staff was not friendly and didn't clearly follow sanitary protocols as the lady who was the cashier put the top of the cup (where you drink from) on the filthy counter instead of flipping it over and or handing it to us, she clearly didn't see anything wrong with it!! The food was not good. The ribs were basically all bone and char. I maybe got 3 bites out of it. The brisket was cotton dry, and the coleslaw was pure cabbage and hardly any sauce, and the minimal amount of sauce that was on there I think was milk. You do get quite a bit of food, however, we were so disgusted we could hardly eat it! Would've rather had the McRib from McDonald's. I'm about to go get my stomach pumped. Terrible terrible terrible. read more
