Maybe I have too high of expectations. I've been to a lot of BBQ joints down in Texas, Florida, the Carolina's, etc. What can Omaha offer? I'm sure you can find decent BBQ still in Nebraska, but this isn't it. First of all, the price of BBQ is outrageous. I think that's a product of this economy, but we spent over $30 on a 3 meat combo and an extra side. One person could probably have this for their meal, which is a decent amount of food, but this is very pricey for what you get. SMALL sides, and the sample you get 3 spare ribs, 5-6 brisket slices, and maybe 1/2 a link of sausage. Our sides were the Pit chips, Mac n cheese, and a small sliver of corn bread. Nothing else- no drinks, we're just interested in the food. Normally from a "true" Texas BBQ joint, you'll get an entire loaf of bread with your meats - we didn't get any bread at all. If you get a sandwich like their brisket sandwich, you'll get the missing element, but if you have a combo with just the meats, it might go a long way to making the experience better. How was the food? We got our food to go. Give it a little time to rest before opening it up. The smells were decent, so I knew that it was smoked meats (the bare minimum requirement for actual BBQ). Let's start with the sausage. Nothing special - probably bought from the grocery store next door and thrown in the smoker. No cheese in the sausage. It was OK, but wasn't great. It reminded me of an Oscar Meyer kilbasa with a little more kick (spices). Real Texas BBQ like a Rudy's sausage blows this away - not even in the same league. I appreciate the attempt, but if they are serving this stuff, they need to go back to the drawing board. It absolutely does not taste or look like they make their own sausage, but I would love to hear if they do. It would be shocking if they say that they make their own sausage. Brisket was probably the star of the combo. The first few pieces were tender and had a nice arc when you put your finger in the middle. Paired with their BBQ sauce (the sweet is better than their spicy sauce), if it was a one meat combo and they gave me more brisket, then I would have been more satisfied. If you're dragged there, go for the brisket. But I think a good bbq joint needs good ribs. The cooking was pretty spot on - not fall off the bone, but relatively clean bones. The spare ribs might have been a better choice. The bark on the ribs were decent, but just my preference, I like to have saucey ribs. These were maybe sauced and then thrown on the grill, but maybe not. The bark is pretty salty. Maybe good for drunk food, but they could do better on the ribs. Adding their sweet sauce at the end on the grill would make these ribs MUCH better, because all the elements are there, it is just the execution that lacked. My biggest problem was really the portions. The sides were REALLY small. The pit chips were just kettle chips (nice and crispy) with a HEAVY dose of spices. Not bad, but not amazing, and that tells you what you need to know about the sides. Mac and cheese was decent, but can you give me more than 1/2 a spoon full? For $3.00, I would expect about twice or three times the size of the container we got. The small portions sizes make me feel ripped off - when you pull it out of the bag and immediately say "really"? Everyone agrees that it should be like a $1 side if you were to say that you got your money's worth. If you charged $3 for a side, give a decent portion, would ya?!! Finally the corn bread. I love a "famous" corn bread from a competing bbq restaurant, and compared to them, this is rather disappointing. It certainly is sweet, and the taste is ok, but honestly, the way it tasted, it almost exactly tasted like a yellow cake mix from a grocery store. At the "famous" place, you have some grittiness from the corn - this didn't have much of that. It was fluffy and crumbly, so it had potential, but the experience wasn't there. The corn meal grittiness, kicking it up to double the amount, maybe triple, it would have been much better. As it stood, it was a small slice of yellow cake. So overall, you and your drunk buddies going here for drinks and getting some drunk food, I'm sure that's how this place survives. But the food - the reason why we went - it's not something you walk away and say that was an incredible meal! Small portion sizes, expensive food, and just OK flavor, it definitely wasn't worth it. I would say it is most definitely salvageable with some tweaks, but as it stands, I would put this in the mid- to bottom-tier of BBQ I've eaten in Omaha. Probably won't be back unless I hear that things have changed. read more

This place is great!! I had the Kickin Pork Ciabatta. Very well kept, clean restaurant with very comfortable chairs! Though I didn't get a refill of my water despite being the only person in the restaurant. The flavor on the sandwich was amazing, but the bread overpowered it because the bread:meat ratio was lower than I would have liked. I got the pork rolls and grande pork nachos, both appetizers, and they were phenomenal! The nachos are HUGE! I'd definitely recommend coming here! read more

Visited Pit BBQ Lounge for lunch in Papillion today!!! This quickly rose to our fav bbq in the Omaha area this past year. Chips are a family favorite side. I love the Spicy Cattleman's Brisket Sandwich that is topped with mac & cheese and friend jalapeño. Lots of unique & fun bbq sandwich options. We even got free brisket chili today that they were handing out since we braved the cold to visit them!!! Always awesome service & great food. read more

I took my grandparents here while they were in town. They're really picky about their BBQ, but they loved it. They're from Texas and said this place reminded them of something they'd see down there. I thought my food was excellent, definitely some of the better BBQ I've had in the Omaha area. The staff was super friendly and attentive. This is such a great casual spot. You seat yourself and there are plenty of TVs if you want to catch a game. I got the pulled pork nachos, and they were loaded. Definitely shareable, I didn't even finish mine. Heads up, the sauce has a bit of a kick, but it's not overwhelming. I'm not usually a spice fan, and I still enjoyed it. read more

I ordered their BBQ pulled pork sandwich with baked beans. The beans were piping hot with a little sweet flavor. The sandwich was piled high with tender pulled pork-not the fatty stuff either! Slaw on top & pickles on the bottom. I chose to eat it with a fork-otherwise I believe it would be messy. I didn't think it was overly saucy nor dry. It was the perfect sandwich & side for me. Our waitress/bartender Kali was very helpful. She seemed to really care & had a natural flow of conversation. We sat outside in comfy chairs in the shade for a beautiful August afternoon lunch. 4 1/2 stars. Was craving BBQ and was in the neighborhood, the latter a rarity, on a Sunday evening. Service was fast and extremely friendly and accommodating, although I was a simple table (just me, nothing fancy about my order). When I walked in the tables were all empty and everybody was sitting at the bar, but it filled out. Ribs with spicy BBQ sauce were very good. Beans side dish was fine. Maybe it wasn't the best BBQ ever but it was tender, tasty, and hit the spot. With just water rather than a beer, price was reasonable for BBQ which has become expensive. read more

I'm generally a positive reviewer and try to overlook things. This place disappointed me though. I ordered the 2 meat combo. 1 of the 3 ribs was extremely thin, it basically had no meat on it. Judging by others' pics of their ribs, I got a bit cheated. The chopped brisket was very lacking in flavor, it was basically steamed beef. They forgot the bbq sauce, so I have no idea what it would normally taste like, but brisket on its own should have some amount of flavor, and this just didn't. I called and nicely asked about the sauce, and was only offered an apology. That's fine and fair, but considering how small one of the ribs was, how lacking in flavor the brisket was, and how they forgot the sauce and offered no sort of compensation or even asked if I minded coming back (I don't live far), then my review will be fair as well. The Mac and cheese was pretty standard, and the bbq beans were good but not great. I'm from a place that has great bbq. I don't want to hurt feelings but there is an ocean of difference between great bbq and what I had today. Maybe I caught them on an off day, but doubt I'll be going back. read more

Our family stopped in here and we all ordered something different, and everyone tried eachothers food. None of us were impressed at all. It was pretty bland and left a ton to be desired. This is not BBQ! The meats were dry and didn't taste smoky, or have any taste at all for that matter! It was not very busy and the service was not great. There was a mother daughter waitress team and the poor daughter was just so incredibly confused and whining because she didn't know how to make drinks (which were sodas) I don't know if she was new or what, but was not a good look on the place. Im a bit down about this one because i was very excited about "Smoked Wing Wednesday". The ambiance was very casual, laid back with live entertainment. It was a one man show and he sounded very good. There was only one staff member working.., i think she was the cashier/waitress/bartender. I ordered half rack of ribs & 5 smoked wing dinner. The wings were great, the flavor and smoke was perfect and tasted great! I was a little disappointed with the half rack of ribs. Seasoning was good but ribs were TOUGH and probably should have been smoked longer. It was even tough to get the meat off the bone. When ribs are cooked properly the meat will fall off the bone... this was not the case. They only have smoked wings on Wednesday and i will definitely go back for wing Wednesday. But i will not be ordering ribs again.... Any one thats smokes meat knows that smoked BBQ pork ribs should be tender and come off the bone easy. read more

The food that we had was just ok. I will say that the Mac n Cheese is not as good as I was expecting. Seems to have good specials and some entertainment. Good amount of TV's, but you have to ask to have any type of sporting event to be put on the TV's. Good music the times I have been there. I witnessed too much drama from the shift change at the bar. My mother and I went to the pit lounge with the highest expectations and they were met my mother got the two meat combo with brisket and. Chicken I got the two meat combo with spicy sausage and ribs for sides I got both Mac and cheese and my mother got baked beans and cornbread and all of this came out in 5 minutes the service was amazing the ambiance was old western the whole vibe was very nice and lastly for dessert we got the banana cream pie and that tasted amazing read more

This are truly the best ribs I have had in Omaha! We had fried pickles and we shared a 2 meat combo with 2 sides (very yummy mac n cheese) and we still had enough for leftovers. The brownie sundae was to die for. Warm moist freshly baked brownies. This place hit so many of our cravings. Again enough to share! Nice, small bar/restaurant. BBQ is good, wife had the ribs and loved them. I had a brisket sandwich... the meat was good but really don't need melted cheese or an onion ring on the sandwich. It tasted ok but was messier than it needed to be. My fault for not looking closer at the menu. Next time I'll skip the cheese. We haven't been to them since they expanded into the bar a couple years ago, we'll be back for the ribs for sure. read more

I was really surprised with my meal. The place is great - completely different than when I was here a couple of years ago. The staff was great and very helpful. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the food though - the ribs did not have a lot of meat on them and half of it seemed a little hard to chew. The sides were okay - they were nothing I feel like rushing back for. The food came out so fast, it had me concerned that it was ready to go as quickly as it was.
