I am so glad we stopped at Smokin Barrel Bbq. It's not to far from our home. I asked if they had any burnt ends, and I was told they did not, but they would have them this coming week..it would be posted on Facebook. I then asked what they recommend and I was told the brisket. So that's what I got and oh my was it good. The meat was flavorful, juicy and just the right amount.my sandwich was served on a rotella roll and I got chips as my side. My husband got the brisket and sausage sandwich with bean and he raved about them. They had 3 bbq sauces: sweet, bourbon and spicy. I had tried all of them, I just preferred the spicy. The owner did bring me 2 burnt ends to try.. and guess what? They were so good, I will be watching and go back on the day they are posted as their special. First of all, the food is fantastic. I had ribs that were meaty, tender, and delicious. They use a very nice dry rub, and there is a variety of sauces available. Second, it's obvious they enjoy making and serving great smoked food and sides to their customers. Everyone was friendly and helpful and informative as I decided what to have. I went here for the first time and can't wait to go back. The BBQ was incredible. But so was the Mac & cheese!! They made it with hatch chilis and it was just enough to add a kick to it but not be overwhelming. I had the Mac and cheese topped with brisket. I highly recommend. I highly recommend their yummy Rueben Sandwich! They smoke their pastrami and pile it high on Rotellas rye bread with cheese and coleslaw and add an amazing garlic aioli sauce........... I ordered it deconstructed with only 1 piece of bread, this picture is after having just some of the meat and the awesome baked beans I got on the side. Been trying to hit the right days to go so when I found them open, I wanted to have a taste test of a few things on the menu. Got a small chili to try it, was a bit too spicy for me. We came to Omaha for a quick weekend away. As we neared the city we pulled up Yelp and typed in BBQ restaurants, knowing the whole family enjoys BBQ. Smokin Barrel BBQ came up and had fantastic reviews. It's a no frills location and place. Honestly, the way a BBQ place should be. Order at the counter and they cut the brisket right then, in front of you. The table are spools from wire/cabling. The man behind the counter, who I assume is the owner, is very charismatic and friendly. The lady behind the counter was also very kind. They have suckers for the kids (after they finish their meal). I couldn't decide if I wanted a brisket or pulled pork sandwich so I ordered last. My kids went for a pulled pork sandwich, chips, and a drink. My husband got the brisket (1/2# meat), side of beans, and a drink. After watching theirs be made, I was still torn. I told the man I wasn't sure so he combined the two into a sandwich for me. I had potato salad and a drink. My husband and I both fully enjoyed our food. The brisket won my favorite spot. It was moist and perfectly seasoned. Absolutely fantastic! Our kids both enjoyed getting bites of our brisket. While my husband and I enjoyed the pulled pork, both our kids found it to be "spicy" and I'd have to agree that it is "spicy" for kids but great for adults! I'm not docking any stars for this because it was delicious, just not super kid friendly. My potato salad was creamy and had great flavor. I had too much food so my husband got to finish it. He said his beans were good too. One interesting bit to add, when the two workers left the counter (when there wasn't a line), the restaurant patrons were silent. You can tell it's good food when everyone is silent and eating. Definitely a place to give a try. My husband said, "it might be dangerous to know this place is here." They have some pretty good reviews online so I decided tograb some of Nebraska barbecue before I head back to Phoenix tonight. I had the three rib platter and the ribs were actually pretty good. But they, like the beans that that I had as a side, were both too cool, almost room temperature. I get nervous eating any food that's at room temperature especially stuff that was cooked. Last thing I need is a bout of bad food hitting me on the airplane. They could stand to keep their food warmer. It would actually taste better as well. read more

The food is fine. We went at 7 PM (they supposedly close at 8) and were told they only had brisket and turkey. I asked for a double meat meal with double brisket and was told no, because "brisket is too expensive to do a double serving". I said "are you joking?" And they said "no, the brisket is too expensive for us to give you 2 helpings" Tonight (a few weeks later) we went at the same time and saw a sign on the door that they were "sold out" and closed at 7 PM In the future we'll try to go earlier, but it's hard to support a business that doesn't work with our schedule read more

So we went there recently and we're just really impressed with the barbecue. It was amazing. The flavors were deep and the brisket was absolutely out of this world. I also had the sausages which were good. Nothing special on them but if you like sausage sausages, then they're really good. It's just they're like most of the others. Also had some ribs and the rib ribs were amazing. The bones were sliding out of the meat, and the meat was tender and juicy. Now we were there kind of an odd time little early for supper for most, but it fits in my one meal a day thing so me and my wife had a full meal there before the evening rush, but they cut a brisket for First cut for us and it was just absolutely out of this world good The barbecue sauces are really good quite frankly there's a lot of really good barbecue sauces out there so let's just call them in the really good group We don't go to Omaha very much but that's gonna be a favorite place for us when we go read more

Decided to go out for ribs and try a new place. We were disappointed when we got there at the 5 pm dinner hour and they were out of ribs! We got their brisket sandwich combo and chili and beans for sides. It cost us just under $50. We did not taste any smokey flavor in anything. The manager asked us how everything was. We told him we came out for ribs and they didn't have any. He didn't seem to care and said to call ahead to be sure they have any. We ate at Smokin Barrel on a recent Saturday. The restaurant had recently relocated to its current location. I was told by one of the owners that they weren't sure how busy they would be. Very pricey barbecue, but very good too. We got 1&1/2 lbs of ribs to go and they cost $32. I've never bought barbecued ribs by the pound before and this was a surprise. I thought 1&1/2 lbs was probably a slab but I think it was more likely to have been about 3/4 of a slab which makes it even more pricey. The ribs were very good as was the slaw just pricey. They also add a 3% convenience charge to your bill which also was a surprise when I got home and reviewed the receipt. read more

The wife and I finally made it to Smoking Barrel BBQ in Millard today. We had been talking about going there for quite a while but their hours are special so it hadn't worked out until today. Let me just say, Wow! We have been missing probably the best BBQ in Omaha, and that isn't an exaggeration. We both got the brisket sandwich, which had the most brisket I've seen since Boxer BBQ, in Council Bluffs, moved to their new location. Had to have been a pound of brisket on each sandwich, and it was melt in your mouth tender and juicy. Of course I had to try the sides too ... Potato salad, cole slaw and beans, Omg, they all were so good. Then there was the sauces to rip the brisket... The choices were sweet, bourbo, and spicy, all of them were fantastic, but the wife thought the bourbon style was the best. It was a bit pricey at $12 a sandwich, but well worth the cost. Smoking Barrel is a hidden gem, and they are only open till 2 pm on the days they are open, and are closed on some weekdays so check the internet before heading there, but definitely had there, you won't be disappointed. read more
