A FANTASTIC BBQ with great owners and super friendly staff. The best in the Omaha metro.

Got a 3 meat combo to try different things. Brisket was overly fatty, sausage had a weird after taste, and the chicken looked so inedible to me that I ended up giving it to my dogs and didn't even want to test it. Sides and the bbq sauce were not any better. Overly sweet beans, the corn pie was very bland and mushy, the only good thing was the potato salad that felt more like an egg salad with a few potatoes but I still liked it over everything else. Overall, big disappointment for me and I wouldn't choose this over some of the better barbecue spots we have in Omaha. read more

We stopped by Boyd and Charlie's for a family dinner this past weekend. We were able to be sat right away, and service was great throughout the meal. However, the meal itself fell short of expectations. We ordered the corn fritters. These were good not great, and they came with a side of honey. I had the two meat plate. This comes with three sides, which seemed very generous. I had a salad, fries, corn casserole, and then chopped pork and brisket with my meal. It also came with a piece of bread. The salad was pretty good for a side salad, including cucumbers and tomatoes. The corn casserole and fries were good not great. The bread had what tasted like one spray of butter in the middle and nothing else. The meat was really where the meal fell short. The pork was generally tasteless, the brisket was so dry and tasted more like a pot roast, and the sauce also lacked flavor and was weirdly watery. We took home leftovers that just ended up in the trash. Unfortunately, I will not be back to this location for BBQ.The read more

Great bbq! I loved every meat I tried. The prices were fair and the servings were huge! I love that my plate came with 3 sides. I'm a huge sucker for sides and they had so many great ones to choose from. The beans were creamy, the Cole slaw was crunchy, and the corn pie is unique! I love the creativity and taste of it. The bbq was top notch. There were 3 different types of bbq sauce brought to the table- all very unique and I'd say not your typical sauce. There's regular, spicy (mango), and whiskey. I had the burnt end which was pork, they were kinda tough but maybe that's how they are supposed to be. My husband had the ribs and they were delicious. Boyd & Charlie's was one of my favorite restaurants for several years. It seemed to drop off a little bit when they opened a second location near Aksarben, which was disappointing. We got take out tonight and were pretty pumped to discover that Boyd & Charlie's is back. The ribs were perfectly tender and the smoke was great. The corn casserole has always been excellent, as have the Bama Beans. The smoked Turkey was spot on. Packed a lot flavor. Came here on a whim after a long afternoon of tubing, and it was not too bad. All the meat was really well cooked and soft and tender. I got the smoked turkey sandwich with the bun and no tomato. The turkey was really soft and just simply seasoned. Neither salty nor bland even by itself. It went perfectly with that dressing that they had on there. I have no idea what it was, but the combination of it all in the sandwich was really good. My fiance got the big meat special with the smoked pulled chicken. It was a very loaded burger and the grilled onions went well there. He added the spicy barbecue sauce - that sauce actually was a good blend of sweet and spicy and the hint of mango actually came through! My brother actually got two burgers, and finished and liked them both. He got fries for the side. Fiance and I both got side salads and also a big order of a main salad. Italian dressing was good for the salad but overall the salad itself was very plain. Iceberg lettuce, cucumbers and croutons - ready subpar for the cost. I was hoping they would at least have romaine. They also didn't have any vegetable items on the menu at all, so there was no option to add any vegetable to the salad. Dropped a star for that. People also not at all happy with the service. Server kept rushing us to make a decision and order, and didn't even let us finish our entire order. A family-owned, small-town BBQ feel. The staff makes you feel like family; they've always been so welcoming and accommodating to our kiddo. We went during a slow time, and the waitress introduced our toddler to all of the animal trophies, which are tastefully done. The wings are incredible, their buffalo-BBQ sauce is my favorite, but any of the sandwiches and meats are worth the trip. If you want to feel Nebraska nice, this is your spot. read more

Haven't eaten here since I was a kid and randomly decided to get takeout to fulfill my bbq craving. The chopped pork sandwich and bbq sauces were great along with the corn pie still being my favorite after so many years! The ribs were decent, but a little overcooked for our taste. We had tried this place long ago (5+ years) and thought it was OK and yesterday decided on takeout. The prices were fairly reasonable considering how much food costs with inflation nowadays. We decided on the corn fritters for an appetizer, two hog sandwiches, a brisket sandwich, and chopped pork sandwich. The overall consensus was everything was fine. Not the best BBQ and not the worst. For instance, the corn fritters were good but could be easily been something you buy frozen at the store and heat up yourself. Same goes for all the sides. I didn't try the coleslaw but my husband said it was a bit drier than he liked. The actual BBQ was fine. As other have stated it lacks some flavor and smoke so you have to rely on the barbecue sauce to make it better. (Which by the way the whiskey sauce is tasty and the right consistency). My husband also said the brisket lacked the bark which is a signature feature of smoked brisket. Again it tasted good but we have had much better in Omaha. Go to Smoking Barrel for brisket and Hyvee at 180th and Pacific for pulled pork (Trust me on this one). Glad we gave them another try but probably not a spot we would hit up regularly. read more

Really disappointed with the bbq at Boyd and Charlie's. This was my first visit so I went right for the burnt ends...my standard measuring stick for bbq joints. Unfortunately, they were not burnt ends. Burnt ends should be very tender, slightly fatty pieces of brisket cut from the point. I'm not sure where these pieces came from, but they did not fit any of these criteria. They were tough, chewy, and just poor quality. Probably the worst burnt ends I've ever had. The sides were better. Their corn casserole, which the server recommended, was tasty. Well seasoned and not too greasy. The side salad was fine, nothing special. The menu said it would have black eyed peas in it, but they didn't come on the salad. I wasn't mad at this because I don't care for black eyed peas, but the menu was incorrect. The spousal unit, offspring and I rolled in about 1:45 on a late August Sunday afternoon. One group of about 8-9 people was leaving as we walked in and, aside from one other guy, we had the place to ourselves. Service was great; no complaints. I had the (chopped) brisket sandwich. Boy had the Charlie's burger, or something like that. Spouse had the pulled pork sandwich. We shared an order of smoked/grilled sweet chili wings. And 3 soft drinks (hoped for sweet tea, but no joy). -The wings were great! -The brisket sandwich was very tender but the outer chunks did not have much bark on them, and the brisket did not have a ton of smoky flavor. It was ok with the whiskey and spicy sauce (which were, by the way, OK but nothing special). -The spouse said the pulled pork did not have a lot of flavor. -The boy said the burger was very good and it looked good. It was a nice big thick hamburger patty in the middle of it. Total with tax for this lunch was $45. I wish they'd offer fresh brewed cane sugar sweet tea...it's a BBQ thing. We've always had great service and food! The pulled pork is delicious along with the extra crispy southern fries.

You'll have to wear a mask until you are seated or if you're doing carry-out. The staff was all wearing masks too. I had the beef brisket sandwich which was rather good with the whiskey sauce that they have. I was a little surprised at the small appearance of their sides, as my Sam's Bama Beans arrived in a little bowl, but it turned out to be the right amount so that I didn't have any leftovers. The Sam's Bama Beans were a little surprising to me. I didn't know what to expect, except special beans. What I got was tangy, vinegary, and soft. I guess my usual experience with baked beans is with sweet variations. I rather liked this change of pace as it was the nice kind of pick-up I needed on a hot, sunny day. The second surprise of the meal was the dessert. I ordered apple pie. What I got looked more like apple crisp. Mind you, I'm not complaining. I was just surprised. Takeout Review: I ordered a bunch of takeout a couple weeks ago and it was a good experience. I walked in to grab my order and it was pretty busy, which is a good thing in these times. The employees were all super nice, as well. I ordered a bunch of food and it was all okay. The prices were all right. The little sides that you get were extremely small, like a couple spoonfulls worth. The burnt ends looked and tasted like jerky, which wasn't what I would normally expect. I used to go here a lot when I lived in west Omaha then didn't for several years while we lived away. Now that we moved to Elkhorn I'm excited to start coming back! So glad I was brought here! On a work trip I was being shown around the city. She couldn't stop raving about a salad she loved here. We stopped in for lunch and I am so glad we did. They were on a corner of a little street tucked away and you could smell the barbeque a block away. They were smoking meat right outside as we snagged a seat. Fried pickle SPEARs!! Yum! Not only do you get spears but you also get to try their onion rings, crispy fries, and other fried goodies together. We both ordered the salad. The Boyd& Charlie's steak salad. Garden greens topped with beef brisket, and fried black eyed peas served with Texas toast. We both laughed when they delivered these huge salads that we could have split. The salad dressing they had was really good with the bbq on the salad. I really devoured what I could before I realized my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I think I would be back if I lived local. Thecselevtion was the smoked chicken. I probably would have rated the meal higher if they pulled the chicken vs cutting it. Good barbecue doesn't need sauce...and Boyd & Charlie's really could use some sauce. Brisket had little bark or smoke flavor, and the turkey was even blander than smoked turkey should be. The beans and corn pie were the best part of the meal, and would have gotten them a third star. But the order was messed up, so only two stars. I came here with my family and we were very impressed with the food but were less than impressed with some other issues. The place is located in downtown Elkhorn which is not always ideal for parking so you might want to use a side street. They have a decent sized dining area and it feels similar to a hunting lodge with it's collection of hunting trophies. The menu is typical BBQ fare. I had the Honey on the Hog ribs which were ridiculously tasty. I would venture to say they are now the best ribs I've ever had. The sides were really good too. The only problem is that the service needs to be tightened up. For example I received my ribs 15 minutes before the rest of the table got their food. Otherwise the place is actually quite good. The worse pulled pork sandwich I've ever had in my life. It was gross, fatty, dry, just horrible. The potato chips weren't any better. Every variety of barbecue sauce on the table was watered down. I took the sandwich home and smothered just the pulled pork in my own favorite sauce. That couldn't even salvage it. Threw it all away and wasted my own sauce. read more

On Wednesday I stopped by for lunch, it was the first time that I had been there for lunch. As you can see from the pictures, it had a respectable crowd for 1PM. I ordered from their "Smokin Deal" menu. I got the Pork Burnt End Sandwich with a side of Ms. Terry's Corn Pie for $5.99. It may look simple, but it was delicious, especially the corn pie. Before I left I also took advantage of their take home sale of a rack of ribs for $11.00. We had those ribes tonight and they were delicious (I've used that word too much, will have to find another).
