GIVE BILLY AN IMMEDIATE RAISE AND PROMOTION. Two nights ago, I ordered around 145$ worth of take-out food for me and my family. My family and I work long hours, often skipping meals to examine patients and help with their miscellaneous needs. That day was no different as I only had a small yogurt for breakfast-no lunch. So by the time I had dinner, it was already past 8:30 PM and there were quite a lot to carry. As someone with a wrist injury and with the sheer amount of food that I had to carry in my hypoglycemic state, I dreaded the prospect of 1) exacerbating my wrist injury and 2) needing to make multiple trips to carry all the food. That is where Billy came in to save the day. Billy OFFERED to carry the food to my car. Him and his kind worker found a box to stack all the food and then Billy proceeded to lift the heavy Hodori BBQ order to my car. But then, I messed up. Due to my hypoglycemia, I was suffering from cognitive fatigue and brain fog. I accidentally made Billy go down the steps into the wrong parking section-wasting his time, effort, and energy lifting that heavy load of food. I felt bad. When I apologized, he had no malice in his voice and reassured me that I wasn't of any trouble. "It's all good" he reiterated. After the mishap, Billy's demeanor was still as sweet and compassionate--expressing genuine empathy about the whole ordeal. He even shared his experiences of when he is hungry to build rapport with me and make me feel less embarrassed. Firstly, Billy didn't need to help me carry that heavy box of food, let alone OFFER TO HELP-but he did. Secondly, he didn't need to be so kind and reassuring, making sure I didn't feel embarrassed and bad, about my mistake. I was throughly impressed by how wonderful of a human being Billy is and truly believe that this man deserves a raise and promotion for his exceptional customer service and care. It is due to Billy that I know that I will be coming back to more often. However, I would like to know that this man received a raise or promotion; his kindness was a beacon of sunshine, the highlight, of my stressful and long day. I opted to get a few ala carte dishes since I read the reviews about the sets being too pricey. Service was attentive when we arrived and we placed our orders fairly quickly. Tried these 3 dishes out. Gyeranjjim (steamed eggs) - Very good, not sure if it's worth $6.99 but it was tasty. It was a solid appetizer and is a Korean classic. (4/5) Sulungtang - This was solid and quite flavorful. Beef pieces were super tender and had a good amount of glass noodles. Really enjoyed it. (4.5/5) Galbitang - Few rib pieces with super tender meat. Flavor was very strong, wife thought it was a bit salty but I enjoyed it. Overall solid flavors (4/5). These all came with unlimited refillable side dishes which I thought were better than other Kbbq spots that I've been too. Overall a delicious spot even only getting the ala carte dishes. Another plus is that it wasn't too crowded on a Friday and they have huge tables to accommodate larger parties. Overall, it's pricey compared to other spots but for the stuff I got wasn't too bad. Finally decided to make our way inside. It's much bigger than I expected and fits a lot of larger sized parties too. Perfect spot to eat after spending a day shopping. The restaurant is located on the Nordstrom side of the mall with the outdoor Asian restaurants across from Cha Tea. They have a decent weekday lunch special for soups at $11.99 but we opted for their a la carte options for our party of 4: Omurice (Delicious and had a homemade ketchup sauce), two galbi bibimbap bowls (beef was a little overcooked but flavor was good and so was the chili sauce they mixed in), and one japchae (this was the best of the dishes we tried and even had some beef in it) Everything was larger portions than we expected and we could've split two amongst the four of us! The service was really great too. It tends to be a little pricey, but they have robot staff and very clean modern decor. My family and I walked into Hodori on a Saturday afternoon, and it was practically empty! It doesn't look like it from the outside, but the inside of the restaurant was spacious, clean, and decorated nicely. We didn't want KBBQ, but opted for some of their a la carte dishes. My partner ordered the bibimbap, me the sulungtang, and the tteok manduguk for our kid. My partner also ordered a Sapporo (only $3 during lunch!). The banchan came and it was the usual fare: kimchi, radish kimchi, bean sprouts, etc. All of it was good and fresh. All the food came out a little while after that, piping hot! Unfortunately the bibimbap was bland, even with my partner dousing it in the hot sauce that was provided. The steak in the rice was also not seasoned well, which was disappointing. The manduguk was really good, with just a taste of ginger. My kid enjoyed the broth and rice cakes! The sulungtang was so comforting and delicious after I added the usual salt and green onions (I asked for more green onions). The beef slices also had great texture! When I was almost done with the broth, I put some kimchi and the juice in it and it completed the meal beautifully for me. They also had a frozen treats menu (all $3 each). This set serves 3 to 4 people and was a lot of food for us. Their large combo also came with kimchi jjigae and I was so impressed by the tangy and savory flavor. This was hands down one of the best Korean soups I've had in a while. Their free sides include unlimited kimchi, mashed potatoes, radish, rice paper, salad, and broccoli. Service was good as they come often to check on whatever needed and bring over food quickly. It was my first time here and honestly I did have more expectations for a restaurant pricing its menu at such a high price. Compared to its competitors, the other non-ayce kbbq will grill for you when they price their menu high. We were asked if we needed help grilling after we have cut the meat and waiting for it to get to a medium cook. The service was attentive, we were asked multiple times if we needed anything which was good. I am giving it three stars based on the pricing of this restaurant and the experience received, definitely think that it could have been better with a more customer forward experience like the other kbbq places. It came with brisket, bulgogi (marinated), marinated short ribs, unmarinated short ribs, sides, and veggies. The brisket was tender and paired really well with their chili sauce. The short rib has a perfect blend of fatty meat. My favorite was their bulgogi, it was marinated perfectly, not too sweet, not too bland. Their salad also helps breakdown the heaviness of the meats and their dressing is light but flavorful. Price: 4/5 We split the small between 3 people. It was about $33 per person, which is around the same price as all you can eat. We were definitely full, but not overly stuff. I think we filled up on side dishes as well. It is worth the price if you care more about quality than quantity. Service: 5/5 We got seated right when we walked in. The service was amazing. The servers refilled our side dishes any time they were empty. The servers even came and helped us grill some of the meats. The meat special came out all together and the side dishes were delivered by a robot. Things were quick and efficient. Ambiance: 5/5 I normally worry that I smell like meat after eating kbbq, but this place is clean and well ventilated. They also have an open kitchen so we could see our meats being freshly cut. Absolutely the worst service. I got my table at 6:19pm. They were not busy. I didnt have not one person come take my order until 6:32pm. I raised my hand multiple times to multiple people. No acknowledgement. Nothing. Making eye contact with me and walking away is wild work. And it was done by at least 3 different people! If I didnt keep trying to flag someone down, nobody would've come. If my child wasn't so hungry, I would've walked out. They apologized later and offered a free soda. I declined it. If someone acknowledged me and let me know they were a little behind, i could appreciate that. But thats not what happend. The boneless short rib was the best, so tender and perfectly fatty! All the food cane out really fast and the bbq they cook for you! How about negative Stars!! Came here for a birthday celebration with party of 12! They accept reservation hence we decided to come here vs. BKJ, maybe we should have waited at BKJ. The only up side was no wait , that's the one star. Now let's talk about everything else: super under staff, food came OUT LATE and SLOW. But no fault of the waiter he was in charge of the entire east side of the restaurant. Food was ok, nothing special, you can get the same quality in other KBBQ places. Manpuku in West Hollywood would never. Pro's Seating was fast. Portion size was good. Waiters were friendly for the most part. The steam egg was good. Con's Service was bad... first they put out our grill really really low for the wagyu. Then they turned our grill super high to the point where it was charring the short ribs without cooking the inside of them. I had to start cutting them and moving them to the edge of the grill in hopes to keep it from burning. The quality of meat was not worth the price. The short ribs were tough. I'm used to eating wagyu sashimi so raw meat doesn't freak me out. Save yourself the experience and hit quarters in k town. At least they cook for you there and it's a similar price point. read more
