    Seafood Pancake
    Ann C.

My boyfriend and I were craving Korean food so we decided to give Hanok a try. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with friendly service, which is definitely a plus. We brought our service dog peanut and they were very friendly about that. Let's get into the food. We order the braised beef short rib (m) and their Seafood Pancake. They quickly serve their delicious and fresh banchan. We love their variety. And then came the hot sizzling beef rib. We love the extra vegetables and glass noodle that was served with the fall off the bone short rib ribs. I do wish it was a little bit more spicy, but the flavor was great. We also love their seafood pancake that also have scallops in it which most places don't have. Everything was fresh and delicious. We can't wait to come back and try other items on their menu.

Met up for lunch at this place for their special fresh blue crab marinated in special sauce. The bonchon was good. Not your ordinary Korean side dishes. They added extra stewed salmon(like teriyaki sauce). Goes very well with white rice. Also, very crispy fried salmon bites. The cabbage kimchi was so so Vit other side dishes were good. The main dish for us was the marinated raw blue crab. The meat was so sweet and easy to eat as well. Somehow, all the crabs that they served have abundant roe to make this dish more creamy and filling. Mix everything in the shell, also served as a shallow bowl, make sure to scrape all the stuff and eat it with white rice. The beef intestine soup was really flavorful. Also the spicy stirred fry squid had just enough flavors to go with or without white rice. As always, free refill on all side dishes. Services were excellent, attentive enough so you can enjoy your meals. This is your typical Mom & Pop place.

    Banchan!

Came here specifically to try their raw marinated crab and it was so good!! Got the two pcs set and it came with some raw salmon, ikura, and uni too!! Worth it!! There's also a lot of variety in the side dishes/banchan they provide. Staff is super friendly! Parking in this plaza is a bit tough, not that many spots, but there is a lower level parking available.

2 crab pieces w/4 slices of salmon sashimi and silken tofu with uni and roe on top

I've heard so much about this place and was actually pretty excited they opened a marinated raw crab spot out here instead of having to go to K-Town for places like Crab House or Master Ha. I want to start off by saying the banchan was just okay flavor wise, which I kind of expected since we're in the San Gabriel Valley they're probably making it more palatable for a broader Chinese/Vietnamese crowd. It didn't have that strong sesame oil, kelp, gochugaru, anchovy based depth you usually get. It was fine overall, but the bean sprouts were spoiled and hella sour. At first, I thought the soy marinated crab was expensive but then I realized for $89 you get two pretty big blue crabs, uni, salmon roe, four pieces of salmon sashimi, and silken tofu. The crab heads even come with quail egg which makes it a pretty fair deal. If you got this at Master Ha, the salmon and uni alone would be almost a $40 add on. It also wasn't as salty as other K-Town crab spots I've tried, which I liked. Overall, it was tasty and fairly priced thumbs up for that. The seafood pancake was also really good crispy, large portion, and packed with leeks. We were debating between the army stew and the intestine soup, but went with the intestine soup since budae jjigae is easy to make at home. Service wasn't bad at all, but one thing that stood out there was no guidance on how to eat the crab. Luckily, I already knew what to do (squeeze the meat onto rice, mix the crab head, etc.) because I'm a cultured big back but if it were someone's first time, they'd be completely lost. At most Korean crab spots I've been to, the staff will usually show you how to break it down, remove the gills, mix the rice, and check in if you need more banchan. That kind of service really elevates the experience, especially for first-timers.

Checked out a new Korean restaurant in the SGV today called Hanok. They took over an old Izakaya place so the inside still resembles a Japanese restaurant. The server said they just opened about 4 months ago. We ordered the galbi jjim and seafood pancake. Medium galbi jjim was $65 and seafood pancake was $22. The galbi jjim had a lot of meat inside and different types of veggies and noodles. The sauce is different than what you would get at places like Sun nong dan as it wasn't too peppery or spicy. The meat was tender and fall off the bone. It had a bunch of flavor and small amounts of fat. The veggies that were inside were bok choy, carrots, mushroom, onions and sweet potato. It had rice cake, chewy glass noodles and cheese as well. We thought the flavor was good and it had a light sweetness to it as well. The Korean seafood pancake had a lot of scallions inside. It had chunks of seafood and the batter was thin making the sides crispy. The sauce was flavorful and paired well with the pancake. They give you 10 side dishes as well and we appreciated the variety. The server came back to check in on us to make sure our meal was going well. The food came out quick and there was plenty of parking in the lot. Can't wait to come back to try the other items here as they have raw marinated crab as well.

Korean Asian fusion modern cafeteria atmosphere. Very good quality delicious Korean fusion food. Service was good. We tried soy marinated blue crab, shrimp tempura, and marinated beef stir fry. We were surprised the shrimp tempura wasnt Japanese style tempura shrimp but actually coconut fried shrimp but everything else was very delicious and side dishes were very good. We really liked the celery banchan a lot.

our large table/party and only one set of side dishes

as a local in the san gabriel valley, i was so happy that there was a korean restaurant nearby...but the restaurant/service could use a little more finesse. came here as a party of 7 and we were seated at a long table (2 tables put together). the server brought over the side dishes (banchan) and set it up on one side of the table. i asked for another set on the side where my husband, kids, and i were sitting and the server went to go tell the older lady (im assuming the owner) and i could hear her muttering to the server in korean "i already gave them a lot". then she came over and instead of bringing another set of banchan. she asked us what specific ones we wanted. putting us on the spot and not wanting to deal with it, i just chose 3-4 and she reluctantly brought them out. i've never experienced that ever at a korean restaurant. we ordered 4 raw fish bowls (hoedeopbap) and one bulgogi hotpot. there were issues with the gas range and the fire kept going out and we were told it was working fine. when they finally changed the gas cartridge after we asked them to for 10 minutes, the hotpot finally started cooking. by the time the hotpot was ready to eat, the other family members that ordered the fish bowls were finished with their meal. that was really inconvenient. the bulgogi hotpot was fine, but could use more seasoning.

Very homey Korean restaurant. Super excited to see a raw marinated spot in 626, it was unique with shrimp and salmon, it was good but a bit pricey. Really liked the short rib, had lots of flavor and ingredients. Strong umami and soy. The katsu was okay, it was a little over cooked and just didn't stand out.

Newest Korean restaurant in the SGV. They are located in a shared plaza with CVS and Tams Noodle House so it may be a bit tricky to find parking. I think it used to be a sushi restaurant before and they actually kept the sushi counter. Its nice to have options other than KBBQ in the SGV. We got their beef soup, spicy octopus, tempura and some drinks. Their banchan were great and the food was solid. Service was a tad slow as they were busy and there was only 1 server but its worth the wait. Would definitely come back and try some other items.

Marinated Korean Raw Blue Crabs (1 Pc)

I was REALLLYYY craving raw marinated crab for the LONGEST time. This is the only place (i think) around this area you can get this so im glad it opened up. I didnt have to drive to ktown yess!! This definitely satisfied my craving sooo yummy. It kinda sucks that the cheapest option is still really expensive, I wish they had an option for a la carte or something. FOOD: Price: fkn expensive for crab but other stuff still higher end $20+ per plate Marinated Korean Raw Blue Crabs (1 Pc) - $55 (4.5/5) WOW this is amazing. TBH i didnt think it was gonna have this much stuff. It came with salmon, uni, and roe as well. It came in a type of soy marinade that tasted really good. This entire crab came with one bowl of rice. Im not too much of a rice person but its definitely a 2 person meal at least. I finished the rice. I wish it came with 2 bowls. I soloed that crab dish but man it was hefty. The crabs were delicious, it was marinated well, not too salty. It came with the entire crab. The head was JUICYYYYYYY. mm mm good good. VIBES: YK as always parking is great in the SGV. Service was great, food came out fast, beautiful interiors, overall very nice. Ill come back if im ballin but yeah not an everyday type of meal.

Amazing and authentic Korean food! The salmon stone pot, bossam, soy marinated crab, spicy crab soup and galbi tang are all so good! All these dishes are very flavorful. And I love the variety in banchan. So delicious. I highly recommend. Service here is also very friendly and nice! They gave us lots of refills for banchan. Thank you, will be back.

Me and my girlfriend were craving soup for dinner, but our normal spots were closed, or had too long of a wait. We stumbled into Hanok, and were greeted with a beautiful interior, and friendly staff. We were quickly given menus and hot tea (I believe barley tea?). We decided on galbi tang and seafood pancake. We also saw raw marinated crab and bosam on the menu, so we will DEFINITELY be back. The galbi tang was delicious, but my girlfriend believed it was too peppery ( I disagree but I digress). The short rib was tender, and seasoned very well. The seafood pancake was also very very good. Instead of how other places make their seafood pancake (with a bunch of batter), this restaurant gave lots of green onions, and plenty of seafood. This was our favorite amongst the things we ate. Overall, the ambiance was amazing, the food was tasty, and the service was immaculate. Thank you Hanok staff for a great experience! We will be back!

    Seafood jeon
    Amy L.

I love the braised beef short rib. It was soft and fell off the bone. The seafood jeon was good. It tasted homemade and was different than usual. I was not a fan of the miso salmom though. I felt like it was missing sauce. This place is a little bit on the pricier side. I loved all the different side dishes that it came with. A majority of them were different than usual. They had salmon skin salad, this sesame thing, this long veggie thing. Im not really sure what theynwere but the ladies were busy so it was hard to ask. They basically had what felt liek 1 person taking orders and giving out food, check, water, etc. Even running around the ladies still filled my water.

It's been a few years since my last visit, and they did a complete remodel. The restaurant looks completely different now with a clean, modern look that feels much more updated than before. While the service could use some improvement, the food was definitely the highlight of the meal. We ordered the galbi and seafood tofu soup combo, the bulgogi and seafood tofu soup combo, and the new cold noodle. The galbi came with six pieces and was cooked perfectly. It was tender, flavorful, and paired well with the seafood tofu soup. The combo also came with four banchan: bean sprouts with sesame oil, kimchi cucumber, kimchi, and seaweed. Everything was fresh and complemented the meal nicely. The bulgogi and seafood tofu soup combo was just as satisfying. The bulgogi was well seasoned, and the tofu soup had plenty of seafood with a rich, comforting broth. We also tried the new cold noodle, which came in an icy chicken broth with shredded chicken and buckwheat noodles. The owner recommended adding a little vinegar, and it completely brought the dish together. It added just the right amount of brightness, and the broth became incredibly refreshing. It ended up being one of my favorite dishes of the meal. The food here is honestly the reason to visit. It's very close to the quality you would find in Koreatown, but without having to deal with the headache of Koreatown parking. That's a huge plus if you're in the SGV. The ambiance is modern, clean, and comfortable. Even during our visit, it wasn't overly loud, and we were able to have a normal conversation throughout the meal. Service was just okay. The staff seemed overworked, and it looked like they could have used more help. The one server who came around to refill our banchan was incredibly sweet and friendly, and we really appreciated her attentiveness. Unfortunately, everyone else, including the owners, came across as a bit short with customers and not particularly welcoming. It didn't ruin the meal, but it was noticeable. Parking was easy thanks to the large free parking lot shared with the other restaurants and 168 Market, making it much more convenient than trying to find parking in Koreatown. Overall, I'd come back for the food. If you're looking for solid Korean comfort food in the SGV without making the drive to K-town, Young Dong Tofu House is definitely worth checking out. The remodel gave the restaurant a fresh new look, and hopefully as they settle in and add more staff, the service experience will improve because the kitchen is already doing a great job.

The waiting area is pretty big, kind of like a lounge with a arcade on the side, very aesthetic and spacious. Parking - Free above and underground lot, spacious overall and plentiful. My brother got 0.91 so it was quite close, nonetheless, a little fun experience before you get seated. There's plenty of tables here and it's very spacious between you and the other diners in the restaurant. It can get a bit stuffy with all the smoke from the grill but other than that, very clean overall with plenty of staff walking around. Each staff is designated to a specific area and they're all pretty quick. They're friendly as well which is a nice gesture to see. With how busy it is, they're always on the move and they got some of our orders wrong along with missed orders which is understandable. All the meats that we've tried were so delicious, personal favorite goes to the bulgogi, beef belly, and brisket. All the cuts were very good and not too fatty which is the best part. The bonchon is great as well, plenty of options and most of them are what you usually see at standard Korean restaurants. Personal favorite goes to the fish cake, a bit spicy but very delicious overall. Besides the meat cuts, I love their kimchi fried rice, although it used to be bigger portions and come in a Korean lunch box, now it's just a small bowl, still tasty regardless. Also love their steamed egg, super puffy and very delicious, not too salty either. Overall, one of the best KBBQ spots not only in SGV but all of California/US/Worldwide. They have so much meat cuts, many non meat options as well, great staff, clean restaurant, and most of all, very delicious foods.
