Such a fun place to dine. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food and drinks were delightful. The decor lived up to its name. I will definitely go back again! read more

The food was delicious and ready quickly. We enjoyed the themed decor as well. Will return sometime when we're in the area.

Food was good. Had one of their specialty burgers with sweet potatoes fries. We added a boudin sausage which was very tasty. To me the shrimp rolls fell flat only because I was expecting chunks of Shrimp vs a smooth consistency. Our waitress was excellent and always there to refill drinks or check on us! read more

Service wasn't great. Our server's visits to our table were very very spaced out. We both finished our drinks half way into finishing our food and they never came around again to refill our drinks (a water and a tea.) Ambiance was lacking, we were sat in a small room with a table of about 10 people who were super loud, and there was plenty of other seating around the restaurant. Our table was also right by a doorway, which was near the kitchen that servers were coming in and out of a lot. Felt pretty claustrophobic. When I ordered our food the waiter misunderstood me. I ordered a burger for my partner, and asked for a Caesar salad for myself. When we got our food, my partner got a burger and a side caesar salad and I got nothing lol. We ordered a side of fries and I ate the salad of course but I wound up with a much smaller portion than what I was hungry for. There was also a curled up hair in our ketchup for the fries. Food was good all considered but pretty disappointing and overpriced for a place that's been around for so long. read more

Loved the place, patio is just awesome. Old house style restaurant, great atmosphere. Food is delicious, servings are huge and the beer selection is awesome. Staff is very nice, it was perfect service read more

I was very worry when my friends invited me to this little gem. I am a bit worry when a restaurant named after Lord of the ring :P. The place is sitting behind three restaurants, but just fellow the signs you should have plenty of rooms for free parking, which is a premium in this area. They basically converted are residential house into the restaurant. Yes you see the middle earth decor everywhere. You have a choice of indoor dinning and outdoor. I suggest the outdoor setting. The place has lots of shaded trees and patio cover. It is very nice setting. Lots of choices of draft beer. Nothing beats a dinner with friends under the shaded oak trees, and the couple of cold ones. I order the Mahi Mahi tacos which is not on the menu. The Mehi Mehi is grilled to the perfection nice and juice. You can still tasted the fish fat on it makes it excellent and hit the spot. It came with red cabbage and I assumed that southwest sauce give a bit of kick. Not too much enough to give you a heart burn, enough to make you taste bud to ask for seconds. The portion of tacos was generous, two tacos enough to fill me up. Oh almost forgot it was top of with mango salsa perfect mix of sweet and chilies. It was delicious. I ordered the fresh fruits to go with it. We sat under the oak trees and under the warm sun. The whole experience is awesome. The service is good too and that is the gravy of the entire thing. Casual dinning with middle earth theme. We had a good time there can't wait to go again. read more

I absolutely love, love, love The Hobbit Cafe. Since my last visit I've become a vegan, and I can still 100% follow my diet here. The LOTT theme is still awesome. We sat outside, which for Houston wasn't TOO bad, but as our visit was coming to an end we all began to feel the Houston heat. I recommend if you sit outside and have kids that you ask for a wooden table. Initially we were sat at a plastic outdoor table and our girls were close to knocking it over. My husband wanted to come for brunch, which unfortunately is not "vegan", but that doesn't matter because the regular menu was available, too! My daughters both ordered pancakes, my husband ordered an egg dish, and I ordered the portobello fajitas. No lie, I'll eat off of this for days! The portion was huge, which is. It a bad thing, and absolutely delicious. We also ordered their appetizer of guacamole, which is awesome as well. Our server, Tristen, was very good, I think they all are, so no complaints there. I highly recommend The Hobbit Cafe to anyone and everyone. read more

Dearest Reader-- Joyous News! The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Hobbit Cafe is now available on Uber Eats. Do you remember when we first met? I thought I had wandered into a dream. Legs weary and horseless carriages weak, it's been nearly 2 years since I last made the Trek to the Hobbit's Cafe. Do not let the name fool you, the food is fantastic. I give the highest of praise to the kitchen for being so accommodating. You see, I ordered something off the menu. Chicken Enchiladas smothered in Caribbean Jerk Sauce (Instead of Tomato Pepper). It was to die for, literally (figuratively). One small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man! --Mitchell read more

Unique ambience, we sat at the patio for dinner and the vibes were very mellow an chill. Food was great, especially the Boromir's Boudin Burger and the Dwalin chicken sandwich. Special call out to the excellent wait staff for making it totally worth our 'lets try this place out' visit. Cannot wait to try more from their menu. read more

This place pretty great. Happy hour Monday to Friday 3 to 7 pm. The Gandalf full has a whole (or more) avocado. The sweet potato fries are good but I think the regular fries are better. The place has cute memorabilia and good service. read more

super cute ambiance! Food was good as well and affordable. They had a ton of variety.

I first learned about this place at a Yelp event for Yelp Elite. I tried about five to eight(?) different sandwiches and majority of them were good. I forgot my favorite one but It had avocado... Yum! I'm interested in learning about other things on the menu so I will probably visit by myself one day and really get a sense of the options... But all in all good job! read more

Brought my Husband here for our weekly date night. He's a super LOTR and all things like that fan, so I was super excited to surprise him with this place, that is right down the corner.....a hidden gem! They literally have an infinite drink selection and their menu is the same. From vegan to meat eater anyone can find a good meal here! I ordered the Boudin Burger and was very impressed! All in all, we loved this place, my husband was super impressed and even talked some LOTR weird language with one of the waiters. So that's cool. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

I love this place! Every time I am visiting from Chicago I make a point to stop by. I love the casual vibe of the place, and of course the theme! This place is amazing! Second time visiting. First time I had the fish tacos and they were exceptionally good! Tried the Balrog burger today. Plan to share. It was amazing, but no way I could finish. I ate half and passed off the rest to the hubs. MUST TRY Uruk fries. They are ridiculously good. I don't know how to describe the queso to do it justice, but it is soooo good! Creamy, cheesy goodness! They add chorizo and jalapenos to the Uruk fries. Just amazing! Hubs had the lamb burger and loved it. Some day we will save room for dessert. Hasn't happened yet though! I also tried the space city slushie, mead and lavender frozen drink. I loved it! Very refreshing! Also tried the strawberry rose daiquiri. Did not love this. Admittedly I am not a huge daiquiri person, but love rose. This did not taste like rose or strawberry to me though. Better by the end though. Feel like it may have a slightly higher alcohol content! read more

Love, love, love this place! Can't say enough about their curry chicken salad and their sweet potato fries (with ranch, of course)! Seriously, the best in Houston! As for beverages, they have the most expansive list of beers/ales/ciders/meads that you could ask for. They don't have liquor, but with the other drink offerings, I am sure you will find something to please you. Family owned for going on 50 years, and just a little hidden gem in this large concrete jungle. read more

If you are look for a super cool and funky niche spot this is definitely it! Our waitress was great but unfortunately I do not remember her name but she had cute little elf ears on. The menu is definitely extensive with so much to choose from! It is definitely a place that I will continue to visit to work my way through the menu! I had the house mead which was delicious and different. I had never had mead before. My friend had the purple slushy drink which was also quite tasty. I ordered the curry chicken salad and had them put it in the spinach wrap with avocado which was delicious and the r portion was huge. The chicken salad had great flavor and is an interesting twist on traditional chicken salad. As the side I ordered the soup of the day which was gazpacho. I had never had gazpacho before so it was something different. As a cold soup I was expecting something different. To me it was kind of like eating salsa with fresh little pieces of broccoli. So needless to say I wasn't a fan but doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't good. Just not for me. Overall it was a good experience and I will probably return. There just wasn't an Overwhelming wow factor. read more

Fun atmosphere. Lots of buzzing activity. Food is pricy and didn't feel particularly healthy. Service was super nice and professional, but table was sticky and wobbled. For the price (about $25 per person) I am not sure I would go back. I wouldn't resist, but wouldn't make a special trip either. With that said... it was obvious they had many regulars, so maybe I am missing something. read more

Service bad not busy and still ended up waiting 30 mins for a vegan burger I asked specifically is the bread toasted came out horribly made to top it off it was the last impossible meat patty it's 2pm it shows that they don't do proper inventory.Manager seems to not like African Americans chased off a poor homeless man who wasn't harming anyone, so please be careful coming here. I would not recommend. read more

Was not sure about this place but glad I came. I went during covid-19 I went as part of a program for meals for cooks. They gave us chicken mole and it was sooo goood !!! Will definitely be back once the virus goes away Thank you hobbit cafe!!! read more

This place is so cute! Built into a house with separate rooms. This is my first visit here and it's very quaint. Their appetizer fried chicken wings was extremely crispy with a touch of jerk taste served with jerk sauce and Caesar chipotle dressing. The Smaug's Delight Sandwich with smoked turkey topped with avocado, tomato and melted Jack cheese. The Hickory Burger with grilled angus topped with BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese and bacon. I ordered the Avocado Burger with grilled angus with feels like a WHOLE avocado. I loved that it was PLENTY of ingredients. No skimping here. You don't get a few pickles, you get layers of pickles! The sides of seasoned or sweet potato fries were deliciously s fried to crispness. They also play awesome music and have a very large collection of beers. Definitely will return. read more

I wish I could give this place a good review because I had high hopes. Unfortunately we never even got to be seated properly because they forgot about us. We were given a wait time of 5 to 10 minutes when it was obviously not busy. We ended up waiting way longer and when we went to question them, they completely forgot. We had a waitress that wanted to add her two cents and tell us with sass "well the wait time should be way longer than that." Thank you for your input, but I wish your servers would give a realistic wait time and be more polite when y'all obviously mess up. read more

Hobbit cafe has an option for everyone - many burgers for types like my fiancé who are all about the mea, plenty of vegetarian options, and good healthy ones for people like me! We started our meal with an order of Nachos - the flavors were totally awesome so I'd recommend for that, but I did find the chips to be pretty soggy, and I'm a crispy chip gal. We got an avocado burger too which was very good and something I'd recommend ordering again! My big disappointment, however, were the fish tacos. They came with salsa which looked/tasted like Pace salsa (generic brand, not what I want at a restaurant) and the tacos themselves were pretty empty. For being a top seller on the menu I was kind of confused and unimpressed. Overall, I'd come back to drink a beer with friends, maybe grab a burger, and definitely would suggest a stop if you're a Lord of the Rings fan! read more

A fun place to dine that pays homage to the Lord of the Rings with its decor and names of the menu items. The building is an old cottage with outside porches for added seating. The food is healthy, but still good, and you can get fried items like potatoes, pickles, and jalapeños alongside your sprouts and herbal tea. The guacamole tacos, cheese enchiladas, and shrimp/cream-cheese fried egg rolls were excellent. We got a bacon-avocado-grilled onions/jalapeños, double-meat cheeseburger and fries to go and the recipient was in food heaven. Go early unless you're prepared to wait for a table, because this iconic cafe is very popular. read more

My grandson turned 11 and is a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan. He knows everything and more about the books and movies... so his parents found this quaint spot to gather family to celebrate his birthday. Wow! The food is amazing. I had the bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. I know how good a burger is by how many napkins are in my used napkin pile- I had a big pile! The burger was large, full of flavor and matched with cheddar cheese and perfectly cooked bacon. An interesting fact for our group- every plate that was set down was followed by a crowd "OOOOOO!" The servings were large and tasty! The only negative was the key lime pie- it was more of a pudding. I look forward to going back and trying different items on the menu. read more

We reserved a table for 12 one month ago, confirmed again last week, then got a call today that they were not aware that it was going to be on Easter Sunday. This shows an unprecedented level of obliviousness and a lack of consideration. I first started going to this restaurant in the mid-1980s and enjoyed its fresh ingredients and quirky atmosphere. This little cafe in the model of the shire has demonstrated un-hobbit-like hospitality. Things are not as rosy as they were in the First Age. The is more like the other places in a large city positioned in America's largest penal colony, Texas. read more

An OK restaurant, but I think the ambiance and the general idea of the place are better than the actual food. I've been here a couple of different times. First, the atmosphere is pretty cool - the lighting outside is quite romantic, so sitting out there definitely has some appeal. Also, the Tolkien references are pretty interesting and provide a good gimmick for the restaurant. For example, when one of my good friends visited Houston, I HAD to bring him to the Hobbit Cafe since he's a big Tolkien fan. That being said, the food is not amazing. In particular, the guacamole is pretty subpar - I've gotten it multiple times and I've never been too happy. Honestly speaking, I would only come back here if I had a friend visiting who really loved Tolkien, and even, I would hesitate. Not recommended, but not terrible either. read more

Went here yesterday and I have got to say we loved it! We ate outside and it was really nice. The waiter Zach was great. I ordered the Tropical Chicken salad and it's huge! Delicious!! I also got a spinach drink I forgot the name but I was honestly surprised on how good it was. My boyfriend got the Salmon burger and it was also soooo good. He ordered an orange juice which we thought was going to be freshly squeezed but it wasn't. Overall we enjoyed eating here and will definitely come back. read more

Not fancy. Not new. Not trendy. Glorious food served by friendly and knowledgable waitstaff (and a hostess with the uncanny ability to know when she is needed and appear!) Tonight we drank the Rosie Cotton Lemonade (made fresh in house with real strawberries and honey) and the blueberry version of same (cute-named for Gandalf.) Gondor blackened Trout with grilled vegetables and brown rice gave me plate envy for my husband's food-he shared some because he's a nice guy. In all fairness, my food also satisfied-Galadriel's Magic Enchiladas, a spinach mushroom concoction with house made mole. I'm the past, we've had the HUGE burger and the portobello burger with avocado- both were also awesome. (LOTR names are fun, but even non-fans will appreciate the food, and I just can't remember all of the cute names.) Decor looks as if it's been in place since the 70's, with LOTR posters, wooden floors, and quirky details. Don't miss out on this Houston gem. read more

We wanted a special themed place for my daughter's birthday, this was a great choice. We'll be back for sure! Service was awesome, inside was a bit crowded for our group, but Delilah was great, and made sure we were happy. We arrived at opening on a week day. Three of us stopped in to this long-standing wholesome food establishment. The weather was fantastic and all the doors and windows were open; seating inside or out is always available. The hostess and server greeted us warmly and attended to our orders professionally and patiently; we were a bit indecisive! I had the Smaug's Delight - ham, cheese and an abundance of avocado. Shredded carrots on the side. My mom had the Withy Wendel; chicken salad piled high on toasted bread with sweet potato fries. Our Host has the Mahi Mahi sandwich with sweet potato fries and exclaimed it was the best sandwich ever! We all had our sandwiches with the slim option and let's be honest - the classic versions are big enough for three! We left happy (& with left overs). You will too! read more

First time here and it won't be my last. It's cute how this place is a hobbit themed restaurant. The burgers are delicious and HUGE with a decent price also. I got the avocado burger with seasoned fries which was so much I couldn't finish. Only thing I didn't like was the waitress we got. She was definitely not attentive whatsoever. We saw her when she took our drink order, food order and to give our bill which she did not ask us if we would like to split it at all, just assumed it was all on one bill and brought it out to us. My coworkers and I sat there waiting for 10 mins on her to come back to have the bill split but she didn't come back. This was during our lunch time and we had to get back to work. Overall I would come back for the food but not for the lack in service that we got with that waitress. I would recommend it to friends around the area to try this place out. I love the decor, the theme and the food is excellent also. read more
