My friend and I wanted to try out an Izakaya place on Kapahulu. Since I didn't have reservation, the wait would be over 2 hours past 8 pm. So no thank you! So I had to figure out what we could eat around here on Kapahulu. I came across Hiromi Ya on my trusted Yelp app on my phone. It is a AYCE Miyazaki A5 wagyu. It was intriguing so we decided to give it a try. We were able to get seated right away. Some of the patrons were Japanese so it was a good sign. The AYCE was around $60. The meat quality was very good. I like the tongue was slightly thicker than most yakiniku places. The wagyu was excellent as expected. I read some negative reviews about the size of the meat and how much you could order. I didn't have that issue at all. The service was good and attentive. The vibe of this place is like casual and not pretentious. It was my first time to eat at a portable yakiniku grill. It was perfectly fine. I loved the seaweed soup too. The kimchee soup could have been hotter in terms of temperature. There were different types of rice to choose from. If you were a big eater, you probably have to keep ordering several rounds though. But we were full after a couple rounds. We enjoyed the meal. I would come again since the quality of the meat was very good.

Sorry, this review is a bit late. This location is easy to overlook nearby Cha To Gelato and Yakitori Glad. Currently, as of June 2025, they only have AYCE yakiniku and sides. Yes, even the side dishes like Curry Rice, Orange Jelly, and Kim Chee are unlimited with the meat. Also note, they are BYOB so no alcohol unless you bring your own. All options are 90 minutes and you can select anything off their menus to eat with each order. Some options are limited each time you put in a order but you may keep ordering them. Overall, the quality and quantity of food is really good and it isn't too smokey for a Yakiniku spot. In all honesty, all of the meats were great. Even the chicken! There's lemon juice, red miso, and a yakiniku sauce with a nice hint of ginger to choose from and all 3 paired well with everything. Even the Mikan (Orange) Jelly was a nice way to end the meal. In terms of quality and service, this is one of the best. I highly recommend coming to this location- please visit and hopefully you have the same wonderful experience I did.

This place was honestly amazing. From the moment we sat down, the staff made us feel super welcome and comfortable. The service was impeccable. They were attentive without being overbearing and made sure we had everything we needed the entire time. The wagyu was absolutely delicious. You could tell it was high quality and fresh. Every cut was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. We tried a few different kinds and each one was better than the last. My favorite was the geta kalbi It was the kind of meal where every bite makes you smile. The overall atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. It felt like the perfect spot to enjoy great food with friends or someone special. We left completely satisfied and already excited to come back. Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves good food and great service.

The girls working here are ultra attentive. Even to my annoying 3 year old who thinks she's a busgirl. High quality meats are the specialty with wagyu, beef tongue and sukiyaki being my highest recommendation. It's BYOB so I packed a cooler of beers white and red wine to accompany the gorgeous meats. All flown in from Japan. Make a reservation as you can see seating is a commodity.

A few things to consider or to be aware before dining here. 90 min seating limit, the clock starts ticking the moment your reservation starts, and not when they serve the food. Our mistake is that it took us awhile to decide what to order. The grill is really tiny for four person and it took longer than expected to cook the food. The oil splatters all over when cooking as the grill sits on top of the table. There is also no smoke ventilation so you will be smelling like yakiniku after dining. Overall, we enjoyed the food but didn't have time to cook our food with the option 2 all you can eat. With that said, I don't think it's worth it. They should have given us two grills for 4 people.

Grill Marks of Excellence If Tokyo and Honolulu had a smoky, buttery love child, it would be Yakiniku Hiromi-ya on Kapahulu. I brought my husband here for an early Father's Day dinner and immediately felt like we had teleported back to a cozy grill joint tucked in a Shibuya alley. All-you-can-eat Wagyu, BYOB, and a personal grill at your table so you get to play chef (don't let the waygu sit too long, medium rare is perfect). Pro tip for next time: we'll ask for the Wagyu without sauce -- the quality of the beef deserves its own solo. My mini curry rice was delicious and my husband's yakiniku rice bowl was the kind of comforting carb moment worth writing home (or Yelp) about. And let's talk about the butter corn -- served in a tiny tin, it slowly sizzled into golden perfection while we grilled. It felt like a buttery side hustle to the main act. Service was top-notch -- friendly, fast, and super attentive. The vibe is relaxed with pink and green velvet chairs and while the back lounge looked cozy, we were seated at a table. We'll definitely be back -- maybe later in the evening because parking in the back was pretty tight and street parking is tough.

I liked it. Previous reviews don't do this place justice. Yes the prices are a little high and portions aren't that big. But if you get the set menu plus add on a few meats it's not too bad. The quality of the meat is really high and this is a cool fusion of Japanese and korean style dishes. The restaurant is obviously Japanese styled so please expect polite waiters, but also them allowing you time to socialize. If you need something just ask and they'll accommodate. Currently it's BYOB so you can make the experience as much as you like.

I'm not sure what happened to my original review when I tried this spot 2 years ago but this update…read morewas well deserved! During both visits, the employees were so accommodating. Even with a decent amount of seating, there is minimal space so they ask that you leave your strollers outside. When we called the first time saying our daughter was asleep they arranged everything in order to fit the stroller inside. The second visit, I had an even bigger stroller because it was a double stroller for my daughter and son. When I said my son was asleep they again, quickly tried to arrange space for the stroller until we realized he woke up. I truly appreciate them being so welcoming because I've come across many establishments that are not especially towards kids. As for the food, the first time the tonkatsu was a miss for me. I was comparing it to a popular spot on the island that books out months in advance that I tried just before my first visit here and it just seemed a lot more oily and not as tender. We were actually going to eat at the other business again but with two kids and walking non stop on our trip already, I was so happy we had an option closer to us. Both times, we were coming from Hilton Hawaiian Village. They have the cutest car bento boxes for the kids, and they let you choose the car color. My daughter loved the mini umbrella that came with her plate. My son was days before turning 1 year old so a lot of things ended up on the floor and even then, they were so kind about it. The best thing though for my husband and I AND my son, was the loco moco which we were told was limited and a new item for dinner since it was primarily only served as a lunch option? The flavor of the gravy alone was sooo good and rich. My son ended up eating my whole portion of rice and gravy with no crumbs left behind or on the floor lol. The other katsu items we ordered were nice and lightly coated and were not heavily oily at all. The only thing that I felt lacked was their curry especially in comparison to their gravy. I would definitely recommend coming here and I can't wait to come back. That was one of our favorite new dishes this trip and we come every year!

I got the pork loin with shrimp combo (the mixed portion instead of the large), and everything was perfectly crispy, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling too heavy. One of my favorite parts was grinding the sesame seeds myself in the little ceramic bowl with the wooden grinder, then mixing in the tonkatsu sauce. It made the whole meal feel interactive and intentional, and the sauce was SO good on the pork loin. I also ended up getting a refill of the cabbage because the sesame dressing they served with it was honestly addictive. I went around 8 PM to avoid the dinner rush and was pleasantly surprised I got a table pretty easily. Taking my time with the smaller mixed portion made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable instead of rushed. Overall, really delicious food, great atmosphere, and one of my favorite meals I've had in Waikiki so far. Pictured are the before and after of my dish. Probably a better "go with friends place" than a date.

Very random one morning after stopping by kona purveyors in Waikiki, I went to the restroom and while my husband was waiting for me he decided to randomly check if they had any reservations available and we were able to get one for the next day! Getting a reservation is definitely the way to go, I've seen people wait in standby however seating is not guaranteed since they prioritize those who have a reservation. The service was amazing! They are constantly checking up on you to see if you need anything else. I like how they offer different kinds of miso soup. I personally had limitations due to my shellfish allergy, but it was amazing! The katsu we ordered was one of the biggest one that they offer. It's crazy how big the katsu was and surprisingly it was super crispy, light, and even juicy in the inside! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try katsu in hawaii!

The atmosphere and decor were great very warm and inviting and the service and overall vibe felt authentic. However, our experience with the food was disappointing this time. Overall, while we appreciate the ambience and understand why it's well-loved by many, this visit didn't meet our expectations, and it's not our favorite experience.

I've been to Mitch's a few times and when I saw that they opened up an Izakaya next door, I knew I had to try it and made a reservation on Yelp. Izakaya Mitch's specializes more in cooked dishes while the other side is more about the fresh / raw fish. But that didn't stop us from ordering the assorted sashimi. All the fish were from Japan and yes you can taste the difference. The fatty tuna was obviously my favorite but even the regular tuna and the hamachi was so buttery, it just melts in your mouth. Plus, it comes with real wasabi. Not horseradish, real wasabi. For the cooked dishes we got the hokkaido crab tempura with a side of matcha salt. One of the best tempuras I've ever had. The kamameshi, a rice dish with their fish of the day. We got the half order and it's kinda like a bibimbap where they mix the rice for you at your table. I saw that people were raving about this on Yelp and put in our order right when we got in because it takes 25-ish minutes to prepare. On special, they had a karei karaage. Karei is a flat fish and I've never had a fish karaage before, it was perfectly fried and dipped in the ponzu sauce it was so good. Ambiance is a no-frills kinda spot but very clean and feels homey and the service is amazing! Attentive and super personable.
