West Coast Roll and Firecracker Roll
Audrey E.

Came in for a work happy hour / dinner and it was a great choice! We can right after work and we had no issue getting space for about 20 people. The service was great, especially considering the size of our group, they checked on us many times and brought our food out nice and quick. We got a bunch of apps to split - my favorites were the short ribs and the crab rangoons! I also got the west coast roll and firecracker roll - both were great!

I really enjoy the atmosphere and lighting! The staff are always friendly and informative of the menu. Always recommend the short ribs and jalapeño bacon crab Rangoon. I think they have one of the best priced happy hour menus in Omaha for sushi as well!

First time visitor Open parking Primarily dining indoors Upscale dining feel but can come casually dressed and its family friendly group outing and date night friendly - at some point the lights were dimmed for ambiance Full service bar and sports to watch Happy hour specials Sushi sashimi rolls entree appetizers Spicy garlic edamame gyoza and egg rolls Gyoza and eggs rolls were the favorite, freshly made no grease plenty of crunch, the edamame was undercooked for our liking and lack the spice as it tasted like more a sweet chili sauce The rolls we had was the rainbow hiro 88 sunshine aww what a mess and a few others for us to share came in a large boat Tasted better than expected where the rice was fluffy and not rock hard, seasoned well, good ratio filling to rice Drinks were all on point, not overly potent or underwhelming. Server was friendly helpful and assisted us with our request. Would recommend and return back to

I got take out here with a few friends and it was great! Everything was packaged well and easy to identify. The staff had the rolls ready on time and were very nice. I got the west coast roll and the spicy tuna roll and they were both delicious - the perfect ratio of fish to rice! Solid sushi for a decent price, hiro is always a good choice!

Yum! This restaurant is one of my favs since it has a little something for everyone. Their yins chicken is one of the best. For sushi, the Hiros crunch and the sweet chili crab are unskippable! Also a HUGE fan of their hot and sour food.

Grabbed lunch here with a friend. Great atmosphere and service! I'm not a fan of sushi so I opened for the Chicken Fried Rice. It was A LOT of food and very good.

Decided to try out this location and see if I like this one or the downtown more. The ambiance of the location is beautiful. Went here on a Saturday night and it wasn't as packed compared to the downtown location. So if you don't want to wait for a long time this location is the go to. We went for the reverse happy hour. A really good deal. The husker roll is my favorite. However, I like how the downtown location makes it than this location. The ratios are a lot better. This location put too much cream cheese and barely any steak in the roll. Still glad I got to try both locations. The west coast roll is also another favorite of mine. I will still go to the downtown location because it's closer to me and I like how they make their rolls there.

Always a great time! I love to go on Sundays for their all day happy hour. They have great deals for happy hour. They have a nice selection of gluten free sushi's. We always make a reservation, and the staff is very friendly. This place has a cool moody vibe that pairs well with the sushi

a bento box with a variety of food items

I went to Hiro with my sister for lunch with our two daughters after visiting Lauritzen Gardens. I typically always love hero and I don't really have not great food here but this time was an exception, unfortunately. I ended up ordering a three item Bento box With teriyaki beef, tempura, and a California roll to split with my daughter (also comes with a soup or salad and a side of rice). The Bento box is a fantastic bang for your buck for lunchtime. We arrived not too long after opening and there were already a decent amount of people in there. The problem was that they didn't have very many servers on the floor so our wait time was quite a bit and our food took a while as well. Our server was very kind, but not the most attentive because she had a lot of other tables. I love their teriyaki sauce and will stand by that it is the best in town, but even that couldn't help my over cooked and cold steak that was served to me in my Bento box. It was especially tough and was not a fantastic flavor. The sauce that they serve with the Tempura was also pretty flavorless. I remember having it and it having a little bit more punch. The other items in my box were good and I really enjoyed the salad with both dressings. I am wondering if it was an off day because usually things are fantastic? My last little qualm had to do with the high chair that we were given for my daughter. We asked for two high chairs as we had two toddlers with us. My daughter was the younger of the two by a year and we got a high chair that had the belt broken off of it. It did not make for a fantastic experience as she was trying to wiggle free for majority of the time. I should've just swapped out the high chairs with my niece but getting my daughter in the high chair to begin with wasn't very fun. Not really their fault I just wish we would've had one with a belt. I will most definitely return to Hiro again but maybe not order the same thing?

A classic sushi place! Today my sister and I tried three different rolls: HIRO Special, Columbia River, and West Coast. Our favorite was actually the Hiro special. But you can't go wrong with something topped with eel sauce. We also had the Raspberry Whisp and Classic Mojito for cocktails. Definitely get those! We went during happy hour. Definitely recommend! But their prices aren't terrible during regular hours as well. Fair warning, there are no kids meals/menus here, but if anyone orders the chicken fried rice, there is more than plenty to share with a kiddo. Nothing says Sunday like Sushi (plus happy hour)! My sister and I are trying all sushi restaurants in Omaha and this was our first one on the list! We split 3 rolls: Hiro Special, Colombian River, and the West Coast. We went during happy hour so the menu was limited but still good list of options! This place is great for adults who don't like sushi with some AMAZING entrees like teriyaki salmon, sesame chicken, and other staples! They do not have any kids menu or portions so not family friendly if you have little ones. Hiro has a great reverse happy hour (til 11pm) and as someone who eats late sometimes, this is super convenient for me. I had their bento box for lunch and I was really pleased with how much I got for the cost! I got seaweed salad, the California roll, salad, and teriyaki salmon. Really filling!

Jana J.

Love this place! They have a great happy hour deal- later than most which is great. I've tried several rolls and never been disappointed--the menu does a great job of describing the exact flavor and profile. Approachable menu, flavorful sauces, and a great drink list too. Prices are decent but I would recommend making a trip during happy hour for a great deals!

Meh. Tried because I had a groupon. I took one sip of a mixed drink and left the rest. The sushi didn't seem anything special.

Particularly enjoyed the light and fresh taste of the khaleesi. The bites were really the stars, my personal favorite was the foienagi. That was divine. No other words. The word I used in the moment was sublime. And I stand by that. Special shout out to Aurora on that one. Speaking of, the service was top notch! While not the best I've had, it was definitely good and I would go again! I wish I had gotten to try some rolls, but went purely with nigiri and sashimi this time around as I think that's the true tell of quality for a sushi restaurant. Favorites of the night were the tenzushi (sweet shrimp), hamapon (hamachi sashimi) and the uni. The Hama toast is really popular here but I wasn't expecting the bread to be soft - I think if it would have been crunchy instead then I would have loved it. The service and hospitality were outstanding - our server was kind enough to gift us the ume hirame to try and it was one of our favorites of the night. The shisho with the fluke made such a clean and refreshing bite. The chef also shared his chu-toro from his private dinner the night before and it was delicious as well. Don't skip their drinks either - the ube drink was so good that I had to order it again.

(although I think the fish is cured to retain freshness) We ordered a couple rolls, but mostly stuck to the nigiri. The Hama toast, prairie tuna, and yaki gindara were all ono. The yaki gindara tasted like butterfish sushi, but with sablefish rather than black cod. Also, the rice used for the sushi tasted similar to the rice used in sushi in Hawaii. We also tried some of the yakitori - grilled meat on sticks. I strongly recommend the tako yakitori. I'm not really into tako poke (Hawaii dish), but this tako with that miso panca sauce is super ono. Full of flavor with a touch of spicy. I could eat that all the time. The five-spice old fashioned they have is also delicious. Service was excellent for us. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself has a/c and gives an izakaya vibe familiar in Hawaii. Also, I saw people come in with t-shirt and shorts for dinner. So I guess there isn't really a dress code here. As others have mentioned, Koji is a sister restaurant to Yoshitomo, and the menus of both restaurants do overlap to a degree. However, Koji has MUCH better parking than Yoshitomo. Trying to find parking for Yoshitomo or Ota can be a pain since it's all street parking. Koji is in a strip mall with its own parking lot (free parking too). If you heard about a sushi omakase place in the middle of America, what would you think? I bet…read moreit's probably not fresh-tasting raw dishes or wow-level sushi omakase. But there is a James Beard-level recognized chef here, in Omaha, that is delivering fresh-tasting raw and other omakase dishes week after week - geography be damned. His name is David Utterback. It's incredibly difficult to get reservations at this eight-seat omakase called Ota. Moreso than any omakase in my hometown on an island in the middle of the Pacific. In fact, I dont think he needs this review - the best don't need to advertise. I also don't think we have a sushi chef here in Hawaii that is as nationally-acclaimed as Utterback. So we were very interested to try. And we were very lucky to get reservations. I dont think there is a parking lot for this restaurant, which is tucked within his also highly-regarded Yoshitomo restaurant. So if you from Hawaii like me, and get lucky with the reservations, gotta roll da dice on parallel street parking. That's code for come early ;) (parking is free in the area) W-h-e-n you do arrive at Yoshitomo, there is a small - hidden - waiting area within Yoshitomo where you will be asked to wait for the omakase to begin. The dark photo with the lantern and Ota sign is in that waiting room. - And frankly - That's all that needs to be shown in a photo cause the omakase course itself varies depending on chef's tastes and what's available that week. The courses we had will likely not be the entirety of the courses you have. But the rice might be the same. There is a special black vinegar that chef uses to add to the rice. Ask him about it. There is a whole story behind it ;) So my photos are small in number. They are the highlights of our experience and what stood out to me that is beyond anything I've tried in Hawaii or elsewhere (including the black-vinegar sushi rice) Enjoy - cause we most certainly did :)
