My husband and I were in NYC visiting our daughter and are fans of the Flophouse podcast and learned that the owners might be there on the Labor Day holiday so we popped in for a drink after visiting Coney Island. We were not disappointed! Stew was managing the bar and moved seamlessly between customers and was so warm and cordial and kept the conversation flowing and we even did what we go to a bar for--socialize with the locals! Being on a gluten free diet I didn't get an opportunity to sample any food but Stew kept our glasses full. Hinterlands is such a great bar. I went in around 6 and enjoyed a few beers before happy hour ended at 7 ($4 draughts). Was bummed that I didn't get to meet the Housecat himself, Stewart Wellington, but I'll be back the next time I'm in town! Got great service at the bar and nice conversation with fellow patrons. What a wonderful place. Great drink specials, the patio/courtyard/whatever you want to call it outdoor area out back is super pleasant and while I'm not a gamer, its great that they have the whole gaming area set up. I checked out this new bar on opening night. It was already packed with friends and family of the super-friendly owners/bar tenders as well as neighborhood locals. Nice diverse draft list with some craft options as well as classic dive-bar cheap cans/bottles. I stuck to beer, but they have fairly priced tasty-looking cocktails too. Love the decor and the garden out back. Food seems to be coming soon, but for now you can grab some tacos from the taqueria next door. Cool new place. There's a real positive vibe that I get from this place and the bartenders (2 out of 3 of whom are the owners) are really polite and helpful in selecting a drink that fits the taste profile that the patron is looking for. Had a very pleasant experience here. Hinterlands is very down to earth and has a nice selection of drafts at good prices. I came on a Thursday around 4 and there some people already there. It seems like the kind of bar you can show up by yourself - it seemed like others had. My friend and I sat in the backyard and it was nice and had good seating. Two different people were smoking even though there was a No Smoking sign. The only other flaw was my beer was my IPA (Flower Power) was slightly flat. Besides that, I'll definitely be back. This place is great. Good drinks, good people, and good food. They're doing the pandemic right - following the rules, spacing people out, etc. After months of lockdown it's been great to be able to hang out in the backyard and have a beer (don't worry Gov Cuomo, I have a sandwich too) and feel somewhat normal. I'm a huge fan of Hinterlands. The owners are the best and have thought of every detail, from the fabulous decor (the back of the bar is stunning), the wall paper, the seating, the outdoor section, the yummy cocktails, the down to earth and friendly service, the boardgames and trivia nights, the delicious sandwiches on offer, the snackies, the clean bathrooms, everything is just great and I always have a good time when I come. I just wish it were closer to Queens where I live, but if I hang out at Hinterlands late enough, a car service will get me home in half an hour. Easy peasy. Can't wait for my next visit. read more

First and foremost, I must say that I never write reviews. However, the service and disrespect we received at hinterlands has to noted. My friends and I were there for hours with cash on the bar. During the bartenders shift change the new bartender was late, rushing, and grabbed my friend's cash to put it in the tip jar. We were all still drinking! When my girlfriend asked for her money back, the one bartender was confused as to how much she owed her, and the new bartender never apologized. Instead, he became arrogant, self-righteous, and put his hand in my friend's face. He began to ramble about how the other bartender was his priority not the patron. I only hope this is not his only job, because he was the worst and most arrogant bartender I have encountered. Beware of the Thursday night duo. They will rob you, insult you, and justify their actions. read more

I think we're very fortunate to have this wonderful addition to the neighborhood! The owners are very, very accommodating! I had a baby shower for my daughter and it ended up being perfect. Mario did a great job of bar tending for the shower; I give him a big thumbs up. I've also been there on numerous other occasions, and the bartenders are consummate professionals (this includes Riff). It's very nicely appointed, I would never call it a dive bar, although it does have a laid back atmosphere. They also have food now, and seriously what's not to like about a Brancacio's sandwich! Some of the BEST service I've ever received at a bar. They have one of the best cheese burgers you can find and a great selection of tasteful beers. The best way to describe this bar is "pleasant" as it is clean, wonderfully decorated, with kind servers. This was our first time ever trying this bar as we just sort of stumbled upon this hidden gem. We will DEFINITELY make our way back to this bar next time we're in Brooklyn. 10/10 read more

Hinterlands is a great addition to the neighborhood. The bar is warm and inviting and serves up excellent cocktails and some tasty food. An added point is that they have a good house red wine, rather than the acidic rotgut that usually gets served up at neighborhood bars. But what really garners five stars for Hinterlands is the service: the bartenders are great - super efficient and friendly. In particular, the chick with the short, dark hair is an excellent conversationalist and I always look forward to cozying up to a bar after a long day of work and chatting with her while I decompress with a glass of wine. read more

One of the best bars in Brooklyn by far! The bartenders are experts and friendly and know what's good on tap. This is great place to get your board games on too. If you can't tell from the excellent decor of the bar, you'll know from the table top RPG wallpaper in the bathrooms. Went to Hinterlands for the first time this past on Sunday Night. The whole atmosphere is chill, inviting and for my money the way a bar SHOULD feel. The bartenders are super cool. Trivia Night was just wrapping up when I got there and the vibe was very friendly and fun, even if I wasn't participating. Perfect assortment of food/snacks to compliment your drinking pleasure. Weird Park Slope bar except it's in Kensington. The owners own other Park Slope bars so it has an identical feel. I'd consider this a Manhattan dive (not a true dive bar). Happy Hour only until 7p sums up the place. Pretty touristy considering the neighborhood is not a destination. Went in a few times and chatted with someone from Westchester and a tourist from Indiana. Kind of cool people are willing to trek to Kensington but the bar doesn't really fit in. You'll never see the owners behind the bar and the bartenders don't live in the neighborhood. I felt out of place as a local. read more

Mix of classic hard rock/heavy metal but not so loud you can't have a conversation. Causally done comfortable bar ( and soon to be sandwich/small plates). One of the craziest bar I went in Kensington. On that bar the bartenders are very rude and they always charge people extra money. If they see you get tipsy or drunk they charge extra money for no reason. There food takes very long to come out. On that bar different bartenders charge different amount of money for the same drinks. They cursed people out for the tips. I was a regular customer and they used to be nice but not anymore because they got some new bartenders and they don't serve people nicely. read more
