The food is fine. However, the owners seem to have a pretty big attitude problem. The first issue was around April 2012 and I was involved in a benefit for a person who lived right around Hillview and had previously been a customer. When I asked if we could hang a flier and asked the female owner for a donation, she got irate and asked "Where do you think we should hang (said with disdain) this paper? We just redecorated and I don't want to hang anything." She refused to accept the donation request letter. The second incident was last week. I was dining there with my 13 year old son, who had just had a horrible week emotionally. The gentleman owner seated us and started razzing on my son about his long hair and then laughed and looked around, trying to get others to laugh with him. They may have decent food but I certainly won't be giving nasty people like this my business. read more

Our server was new and nervous but she was so nice! I noticed that the other servers there were bullying her in a since And the other servers had no personality we weren't greeted with a friendly smile it seemed like it was a bother we were there. The food was not as good we had the chicken finger mac and cheese and wasted like $15 on boxed gross mac and cheese with no flavor! Dessert was really good and homie! Expect diner food for a really expensive price. Step up your game and learn a bit about hospitality ladies! read more

I went there around midnight with some friends. While the food was decent, the service was just terrible. We requested separate checks which was not done, we had to ask several times to get a refill, she had gotten our drink order wrong and the waitress had slight attitude when a few of us asked for milkshakes. read more

I didn't even want to give them a star. My soda was bad , I asked for water , they brought me another soda and water and the water tasted like they never clean their water lines and the soda was still bad.My quesadilla had different vegetables than what I was told was in there and had hardly no cheese. It was suppose to have peppers, onions, tomatoes , 3or 4 cheeses and chipotle ranch dressing. When I got it , it had cheap frozen mixed Asian vegetable . It was very strange. My husbands omelette looked like they fried an egg, put a tiny bit of cheese and a bunch of broccoli stalks in it. I didn't complain when I was there but after I got home and thought about it and went to their website and contacted them via and told my story. A week goes by and I still have not heard from them. I guess they don't really care about an unhappy guest and how word of mouth travels when someone's unhappy. read more

We stopped by this place on our way to Niagra falls. The diner has beautiful booths and has a cozy feel to it. Their French Vanilla coffee was flavorful and the bagel was also quite soft. The blackberry pancakes and waffles looked appetizing but I've had better in the past. The staff is also quite courteous. A nice place for a quick grub! read more

Read the review about Hillview in Gusto and decided to give it a try. Service was okay but the food was a different matter. Placed an order for an omelet, which upon arrival looked pretty good. Starting to eat it was another story. upon cutting into the omelet there was hair. Told server about and it was replaced. The second strike was when the omelet was returned it had onions in the home fries which I can not stand or eat. The final strike was when an adjustment was not offered on my bill but an invitation was offered to try the again. I don't think so. read more

They renovated the inside a little while ago so the decor is very upscale for a diner, with rough long skinny stone tiles, gas fireplaces, a very nice checkout counter, and fresh flowers when you walk in. The food portions are large like you would expect. The options they serve are pretty typical for a diner type place - lots of fried food options, salads with a ton of toppings (like chicken fingers!), burgers and appetizer platters and daily specials for dinners. The food is a touch above average for the type of restaurant it is and the decor is way above average for the category, but then again I'd call this more of a diner than a restaurant, just based off my downstate sensibilities. It's near work so we take visitors there for lunch often, which is nice, and I've gone when I'm in the area and hungry and am not sure what I'm in the mood for since they have a little bit of everything. They're a solid place for a lot of people since everyone should find something they like, and the atmosphere is great. read more

We always go for breakfast on Sundays & Fish on Fridays. The food is very good. We never wait long. Coffee & beverages are served as soon as seated. Milton is a good owner and always talks to you. Their waitresses are fast. Other places you wait long. Hillview is faster. Love going there. Marge read more

The "cook" doesn't give half a shit. Worst meal we have had in a long time. They should stick to dishwashing instead. Next time we are hungry late at night, we'll go to McDonald's. Absolutely awful. If you don't care about the food you are sending then why do you work in a "restaurant"? The owner should be embarrassed to have people like you working there! read more

Stopped after a drop off at the airport. It was early morning. The service was prompt but the food was extremely poor. Coffee was old, bacon was rubbery, home fries tasted like they were left over. We were disappointed with the quality. read more

Just went to pick up a take out order. When I arrived, the person at the front told me she had just given somoene what I ordered and there were no more. She then said, "You must have called the other restaurant." At that point, I took out my phone and showed her that I had called the Hillview. I even asked if the number I dialed was her number. She agreed that it was but reiterated that she didn't have my order. She said, "What do you want me to say? You never ordered it." I wanted her to say, "I'm sorry. I made a mistake. I'll make a new order and get it right to you." Nope. I will never go here again. There are many good restaurants in the area. I'll go elsewhere read more

Unfortunately tonight was our first and last time at Hillview. I will start with the good highlights first. The restaurant itself is nice, clean and updated with comfy chairs. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. It wasn't busy at all- maybe that was a sign? Now on to the bad, the food. I ordered the House salad with chicken and a side of Greek potatoes. The salad itself looked really good, with grilled chicken, lettuce, chopped tomato, red onion, asiago cheese, dried cranberries, cantaloupe, honeydew (it was supposed to have pineapple but it was missing and there were grapes in it's place) and some VERY, VERY SPOILED mandarin oranges. YUCK. Never have I tasted fruit that was that old and fermented. It ruined the whole salad for me. I ate around them but every so often a small chunk of the rotten oranges snuck in and I wanted to gag. It made me worry about the ages of everything else in that salad, especially the chicken :-/. They either had those oranges hanging around for a month or they weren't kept refrigerated and spoiled. The rest of the salad seemed OK so I ate what I could and let the waitress know. She offered to switch the fruit out, but at that point I was pretty much done and I didn't even want to take the chance for more rotten fruit. The salad came with "garlic toast" which was half of a sub roll toasted with garlic spread. That is a "beef" I have with bread at restaurants. What would happen if Costanzo's closed? Would we have no more subs, sandwiches and garlic bread anywhere? I am so tired of that same damn sub roll being used for everything in Buffalo... Be creative, you have pita's, so why not use those for garlic "toast"? Anyway Alton's has waaaaay better Greek potatoes- hands down so that is that. My two other dinner companions chose different meals, one liked his ( burger), and the other didn't like her food at all( steak sandwich)..Except for the french onion soup, which she said that was good. We all took some rice pudding home, hopefully that will be good. It is a shame that a nice restaurant with good service has such crappy food. The total bill for 3 people with dessert was $62.00 which to me for this meal, wasn't worth it. Way to many restaurants around to return. read more

This was pretty disappointing. We had a late dinner here and while the menu looked great, everything was disappointing and one of the dishes was cold. Maybe it's good if you go during regular hours, but I'm not planning on going back. read more

We had a group of six. One of us never got our order. After telling four different waitresses with no results, we finally told our original waitress to forget it. A drink order was also never served. The food we did get was Ok, not great. We had to ask them to take the missing meal off the bill, and there was no apology. read more

Bad service by staff and owner. I have been to this place about 4 times and the food is actually decent about a B- to a C+ for a grade. I have gotten a grilled chicken sandwich and both beef and chicken souvlaki. The chicken and beef are cooked well and the marinade is OK and they use iceberg with a little bit of spring mix for the lettuce and the tomatoes aren't too mushy. The dressing is also average. I also had fries and they are nice and crispy. The problem I had is I got about 3/4 done with my chicken souvlaki and I noticed a hair under some food. The hair did not match anyone in my family and we have no pets. I was upset but it happens from time to time. We told the waitress and she said "on I'm sorry.." Took the plate and that was it. No let me get you a new one or let me adjust your bill. I stewed didn't say anything else. We went up to pay the bill and the owner was there. Usually when an owner is at the register they ask how was everything, but not this particular time. I paid the bill and then mentioned "there was a hair in my food.." He replies "oh.." I look at him, he looks at me, there was a long pause and then nothing. Needless to say I won't be going back here again. read more

Breakfast was good except the coffee was weak. Their interest in customer needs was lacking and they don't care, Essentially said as much "we know people have allergies and such, but we aren't that kind of restaurant". My translation-Take my special needs someplace else to eat....So I will. read more

Had a good omelette this morning- home fries were just okay and the coffee decent. The diner's very comfortable and well-kept, which I give the owners credit for, plus it's welcoming to locals and travelers alike. And it's open 24 hours! read more

The potato pancakes with sausage was a 4 inch piece a sausage and very thick pancakes that are hardly cooked in the center. Not a fan.

Not bad enough for one star, but certainly not good enough for anything more than that! My girlfriend, her family and I went for dinner and boy was I in for a surprise. Heard through the grapevine that this place was pretty good (if it's 4 in the morning and you're drunk eating chicken fingers.) anyways, my girl and I both ordered the open prime rib which sounded very good on paper but I shuddered when it sat in front of me...It did not look very appealing. It was a bad cut of COLD meat on a soggy little piece of bread. Skimpy on the fries, and coleslaw was water-like and not very good. Beside this disappointment, my friend sitting next to me clearly said "may I please have a Bud light" and our waitress brought back a Labatt blue light. Ok...no big deal. After all this our waitress finally brought out the two omelettes that were ordered(one steak and one meatball supposedly.) One of them was an omelette that belonged to another table. She took that one back and brought TWO more omelettes to us. She gave that same person yet again the wrong omelet. In addition to that, she gave our other guy a new omelet and said "here I made a mistake that's not yours" (he didn't bite into it yet so he didn't know if it was correct or not) this was also the wrong omelette. Our waitress was alerted that they were both wrong and she offered to take them back but at this point the two men both said don't worry about it at this point we'll eat anything. Bad customer service and bad food! But it is CLEAN and NICE LOOKING on the inside! read more

June 22, 2015 I went to Hillview Restaurant today ordered a Souvlaki Sub with dill and greek dressing. The food was terrible, the chicken was tough, stringy, and dried out. The tomato's were not ripe and were hard. The roll was stale. There was a small amount of feta cheese and a very small amount of dill on the roll. The sub w looked like the person who made it never made a sub before, it looked like it was thrown together, the onions and tomato's were hanging out of the roll and falling off. The sandwich did not look appetizing at all. The waitress put the bill on the table when she brought the food, and never returned to ask if everything was alright or refill the pop. When I looked at the bill it had a charge of 50 cents on it for the dill. (They also have a souvlaki rollup which cost the same and has the same content and dill comes with it.) When I went to pay the bill I asked why I was being charged for the dill, as I have been to the Hillview many times and ordered this sub with dill and greek dressing and have never been charged extra for the dill. The woman at the register kept saying well things change and prices go up. I then told her about the food and the service or I should say lack of service. The woman kept repeatedly saying about the food what do you mean, I told her what was wrong and still she kept saying what do you mean, like she did not understand what I was telling her. (Convenient how suddenly she could not understand what I was telling her.) As for the service she told me oh no she is one of the best waitress here, she would not do that. Again she kept repeating how good this waitress was, then said I can't believe it. When I finished telling her she said oh well don't leave her a tip if you don't like the service. I told her I did not intend to leave a tip, and I would not return there again. (Her loss my wife and myself usually go there 2 to 3 times a week for breakfast, and my wife has been there with her group of 10 - 15 ladies on several occasions.) She never offered a discount, a dessert or take off the pop or anything for the food and service being as it was. The waitress we had today should take some lessons from the waitress who usually serves in the front along the windows in the morning, she is friendly and provides the highest grade of service. To bad we liked going there, but definitely will not go back as well as my wife's group will not go there anymore. I would not even give 1 star for the food and service today. read more

This place is hit or miss. Mostly miss. I really wanted to love it, but I sadly had to stop going. I really wish the food was prepared better, and more staff. The poor waitresses are always frazzled. I went here for a year. Every time I would hope it would just get better. I decided not to waste my money on food worse than McDonalds. read more

Called in my order today turkey sub, light oil no mayonnaise. Picked up my sub, paid $10.10 for a turkey sub when it says $7.99 on the menu. Got home and my husband said there's a ton of mayonnaise on this. I was shocked because I thought the word "no" meant I didn't need it. When I called the lady said we don't put it on upon request. I said I understand and that's why I said "no" mayonnaise. She said I could bring it back and when I was asking if she needed any information from me to come back in, she hung up on me. Good customer service goes a long way and I guess I am NOT needed as a customer at hillview, Forestview, and garden view. So disappointing read more

Where do I start ? I walked in to Hillview with my mother and my 3 year old son to be greeted by a women who said "3" no, Hey how are you, thanks for coming in, will you be needing a booster seat. Nothing! Than seats us all the way in the back of the restaurant. The waitress comes over and is very nice and pleasant takes our order and left. As were waiting for our food to come another waitress starts vacuuming all around us it was very loud and dust was flying everywhere. When our food arrived I nicely asked our waitress "sorry can I ask you a favor ?""While we're eating could she not vacuum?" She turned around in the middle of the restaurant and said very loud "THEY DONT WANT YOU TO VACUMM WHILE THEY EAT!" After that the waitress that was vacuuming came over and very sarcastically asked if everything tasted ok? Mind you our waitress never came back. When we were done eating (which by the way I asked for no olives and i bet you can guess what I got! OLIVES ! ) The rude waitress came to give us our check and I Again said sorry I hope that wasn't a big deal to stop ? She turns around and says NO NOT AT ALL IT'S FINE YOUR WELCOME very nasty! So we get up and go to pay at the counter back to the hostess where again she says nothing! She takes my money and nothing again! She hands me my changes and very sarcastically says "THANK-YOU". (and she's the owner funny). I will never go back and if you read this yelp hopefully you won't either! read more

This is hands down the best diner in all of WNY. The prices are great, service is great, the owner is always around to make sure things are going well. They just remodled so its looks a little night-clubish, but don't let that fool you. The menue is still the same and the food is always great. They also have flavored cremaers at your table to put in your coffee. Do yourself a favor and eat here. read more

Grandeur of Yesteryear I visited on a early morning around 2 AM. I had not been to the place in about 6 years which seems to be about how often I visit this restaurant. The large booths, decor, and style of this place was luxury style circa 70's to 80's. I was greeted and seated within a minute or two of arriving by a friendly host/waitress. All the waitresses worked together and were all nice. I ordered the Roast Beef sandwich with 3 fingers for $11.99. The roast beef was good and a decent size portion. The chicken finger were average frozen tyson style edible but would not get again. I got the BBQ sauce on the side which was missing when my order was brought but quickly retrieved by the waitress. The bbq was good. I had the Black Forest Cake for dessert at $4.99 and it was excellent. They have a wide array of desserts many which you don't normally see. Being this is one of the few 24 hour places left I will be back soon. My soda was a tad high at $2.89. The prices for some things are a good deal while others are way overpriced like $8.99 for Pizza Logs or Mozzarella Sticks Yikes. read more

It's too bad I have to give this 1 star. Used to live near it and ate there quite often. I used to enjoy the servers because they all seemed to like their jobs and were welcoming and attentive. The food used to be good also. Stopped in today with my Mom for a late lunch. Was hoping for lamb shank as they used to serve that once in awhile. Not today. Our server seemed to want to make it clear that she would have preferred to be anywhere but there. No smiles or welcoming personality. Mom ordered Chicken Finger Mac and Cheese. Don't make that mistake. The sauce was abnormally yellow. She said the finger breading was hard. For $14.99 it was bad. I ordered my old standby of deep fried breaded pork chops (it is nice that they'll make them if you ask as they're not a regular menu item). Hard to overdo those but they did. Dry. Fake mashed potatoes ( although I actually like those LOL). Veggie blend was limp and not tasty at all. Seemed like they just added some oil to them. Ate half our meals and opted to try dessert. Second mistake. Mom got rice pudding. Although happy that they add white raisins, she said they used instant rice. I ordered a peanut butter chocolate cake creation. It was stale! Dry and hard cake. Called one of the servers over to return it. Her response was "it just came in yesterday". I replied that I was sorry but it is definitely stale. If it's made of chocolate or peanut butter I can eat just about anything... just not stale cake. After we got our meals, we waited....and waited... and started to think we should put a missing persons report out on our server. Mom had asked for decaf with her meal and it never came until (hallelujah!) our missing server was close enough that I finally called out loud enough to catch her attention. When we asked about the coffee she said she never heard that on the order. She then walked away but did apologize when she brought it. Now my mom and I are very friendly people who have both spent time in the restaurant field. We are respectful and actually write nice things about people to their managers etc. I'm hoping the owner of Hillview sees this review. He's a nice man who was always attentive and welcoming. I think he needs to check on his present staff more and have a talk with the chef. read more

I have breakfast here almost daily, it's almost like eating at home, the wait staff are all friendly and usually have our coffee ready by the time we sit down. The food is always pleantiful and delicious. While the food was very good, and the service was fine, I gave it low stars because I feel as if the owner screwed us over. I went with my children on a "kids eat free" night, and was incredibly disappointed to find out (after we all ate) that the item my daughter ordered was NOT included; even though it was on the menu - under the kids eat free category. I have heard other similar complaints. I do not like feeling as if I have been taken advantage of. I will not spend my money there again. Shame on the owner for taking advantage of people. All that it gets him is reviews like this, and lack of business. read more
