Walking around downtown Lancaster, I saw plenty of places to grab dinner. Running a search on my Yelp app for best restaurant for dinner, Skoob's Village Grille popped up and all-in-all, it was a good experience. I walked in around 7:20pm on a Wednesday night to a busy restaurant and bar. I had no issues with parking as I used one of the public parking lots near downtown and took a short walk over, but if tried to find a parking spot on the street, that would've been pretty difficult. I did see the parking lot for a, now closed for good, Rite Aid that had a few cars and some open spaces, so that seems to be an option as well. Upon walking in there was a host station, which said to wait for the host to seat you. Past the host station, there is a good-size bar and several high-top tables and chairs, a separate dining room with plenty of tables and chairs for families/larger groups, as well as an outdoor patio with more high tables and chairs. Plenty of TVs were hung up around the bar/restaurant and classic rock was playing over the speakers, but it wasn't too loud, you could carry a conversation with relative ease. The hostess was going to seat me but then a random couple came, ignoring the sign, and took it that table... The hostess managed to find me another high-top table by their outdoor patio entrance. After I was seated, I was forgotten about for nearly 15 minutes. I was about ready to get up and leave when one of the waitresses going in/out of the patio stopped by and asked if anyone was taking care of me. She apologized and immediately took my drink order. Once I got my drink, I was about ready to order dinner but was undecided, so I asked her what's the more popular item and went with it. The wait for my dinner was a bit long, nearly 40 minutes passed by the time my dinner was brought out - At this point, it was after 8pm. For dinner, I ordered their Chicken Finger Sub, with the fingers sauced in their "Jessie's Everything" specialty sauce (a small upcharge) and topped with bleu cheese served with a side of fries. The chicken finger sub was excellent! The chicken tenders were fried perfectly and there was the right amount of lettuce, tomato, red onion. The "Jessie's Everything" sauce was great - It wasn't too spicy-hot, the sauce reminded me of a banana pepper. The Constanzo roll with the tomatoes on the bottom did make this sub a little hard to eat as the filling kept sliding around and falling out the sides, but it was worth the mess! The fries were fine, nothing special. Looking over my bill, I thought the price for my dinner was reasonable for the quality and quantity I received. Skoob's Village Grille nails the vibe of being the bar in a small town where everyone goes to for a drink, classic bar food, and to relax with friends. If I have one nitpick, I think the service times need to be looked at and improved. But even with that nitpick, I'd come back and try one of their burgers or an order of chicken wings with one of their specialty sauces! read more

We were here for trivia night. We both ordered the French dip sandwiches. Boy did we enjoy them! The beef was so tender and delicious, the hoagie roll had just a bit of crunch and it had melted provolone cheese. Our friends enjoyed their meals also. The waiter was very attentive. The meals took awhile but we were a table of 10 plus it was busy that night. The restaurant is clean and attractive with several televisions. The ladies room was also clean. I am struggling to think of a restaurant I enjoy as much as Skoob's. The food is incredible every time I have been there. After the French Onion soup my wife had the Steak House Weck off the specials list. Shaved prime rib with sautéd mushrooms on weck roll. She loved it. She raved about how good the soup was too. Prime rib was delicious. I went with the Skoob's Village Royal. OMG it was the best sub I have ever eaten. It was huge! So much meat on this thing. I could only eat half after enjoying the piping hot crispy fries. Dining room was busy and Liz did great job waiting on so many tables by herself. If you have a chance to try this place, I couldn't recommend it more. read more

Thanks for ruining my birthday dinner. I've been to skoobs many times, they are known for having the slowest service in Lancaster, I know this & yet I still went anyways because they didn't seem too busy this evening. I went in with my two young kids at 5:55pm. We waited and waited for someone to come offer us drinks. Even after flagging them down and asking if someone can come take out drink order, it still took them until exactly 6:29:23. I know the seconds because my husband said "if they don't come take our drink order by 6:30, we're leaving". We ordered our drinks, and they took our order. We waited...and waited... My 3 yr old daughter says "This is a long time for food"...And my husband then said "If our food isn't here by 7, we're leaving". Well, we left. We were nice enough to still leave payment for the milk my daughter drank but we couldn't stay a moment longer. We were starving and my kids were getting restless. I've heard a lot of great things about the wings here at skoobs. Finally, I was able to make it over here to see what they were all about. The bartender got me set up with a nice tall jack and Coke , within a few short minutes, I had my drink and the order for my wings placed with the kitchen. While I was waiting, I got to enjoy some sports on the TVs that are in the bar area and to make some good small talk with some of the other patrons. It really gives you that local bar feel where everybody knows your name. My single order of medium wings came out nice and hot and best of all crispy. Their medium was the perfect buttery Frank's sauce, nice and thick and a healthy amount to sap my wings and on the plate. I love bleu cheese, the claims that I heard about theirs lived up to the hype. I can easily say this is one of the top five bleu cheeses I've ever had. Nice and chunky. The only negative is I wish I had more. With so many other enticing menu options I definitely need to come back and try more of the food here. read more

Brought a friend with me this past weekend. She had never been here before so I thought it was perfect. There was a loud crowd, but that was to be expected because it was saint Patty's day weekend. There was a wait, but they had a few no show RSVPs, so they took us right back. Our poor waitress was running around like a mad woman, but we couldn't fault for her this as it was really busy. Waitress came around to take our drink order, and it took her a few minutes to come back around to take our food order. This probably would've been a good time to let us know what they ran out of, because my friend tried ordering 3-4 of those menu items. Our food arrived and my fries and my burger were warm, not hot. I can deal with a warm burger, but I don't like warm fries. I let the waitress know and she brought me a fresh, hot order of fries. Queue our bill. Skoobs is one of those places that charges you extra if you're paying with a credit/debit card. I had the cash to cover my $22 and some change. I put $40 in, and the waitress took it away. We waited for her to swing back around with our change. We must have waited for 25 minutes before I had to hunt someone else down to ask for my change. She had to hunt down our waitress, who admitted that she thought the extra almost $20 was her tip. Never once did she ask if we needed change, she had just assumed. This is not the first time this has happened to me here. I was annoyed. She ended up giving me my $20 back but this shouldn't have happened. If an establishment offers a small discount based on paying cash, the waiters and waitresses need to make sure they're giving the proper change back. read more

Stopped into Skoob's Village Grill to catch a band and grab dinner. It was definitely busy, which is expected when there's live music. One tip if you're going for the band playing in the front room: don't sit on the enclosed patio. Even with the door open you really can't hear the music from there. I stayed and finished dinner of course because the Reuben was absolutely delicious. One funny moment was being served a beer in a Solo cup. At first it caught me off guard, but honestly with how slammed they were I totally understood -- I wouldn't want to be doing all those extra dishes either. After dinner I moved inside to try to actually hear the band. I ended up seated near the bathrooms, and unfortunately there was a pretty unpleasant smell in that area. Not sure if it was coming from the bathrooms because of how close the table was, but it definitely wasn't the best spot to sit. The hostess who sat me asked if I wanted a drink and I said yes, but about 20 minutes later someone else came over to ask me what I wanted again. I completely get that they were busy, so I'm not upset about it -- but the drink unfortunately never made it to the table. Skoob's is a lively bar / restaurant located in the heart of Lancaster. They are known for delicious chicken fingers and Friday's traditional fish fry. Their menu is full of typical bar food including wings, sandwiches and burgers, along with some soups, salads and appetizers (Skooby Snacks). I had a problem finding anything without meat or bread, or not being fried. Fortunately, it was a "Gone Fishin'" day, so I was hoping for a juicy, flaky, and flavorful piece of fish. Sadly, it wasn't the case. Well, it's hard to find a fish fry place that serves a decent broiled fish as an option. My lemon pepper haddock was overcooked, lukewarm and really nothing special - a big disappointment. Tartar sauce came to the rescue. The regular beer battered haddock was huge, hot, and crispy. It was a show stopper, and I think that's why the rest of our food had to wait. Even our fries were barely warm. The coleslaw, potato salad, and macaroni salad were fresh and very tasty. A slice of rye bread with butter was a nice extra treat as well. The crew working Friday afternoon was ready for the big evening crowd. Around four o'clock this place was already busy. The bar area also seemed very popular, gathering a decent amount of loud (happy?) customers. The type of service provided did not surprise me. Americans can be loud and, to some, obnoxious. Besides, I really don't like when someone checks on me too often during a meal. It's even worse when I'm still holding the cutlery and the server tries to take my plate away asking if I've finished eating. Also, the information on the menu about a 3% discount when paying in cash is not true. In fact, 3% extra is charged for a cashless transaction. If you pay cash, the price remains the same. It was a beautiful winter day and the tiny "downtown" of Lancaster felt charming and snug. We took a short stroll through tunnels of cleared fresh, white snow. Damn, if only my fish was better, this could have been the perfect adventure worth repeating. My partner enjoyed his food and pointed out that it was a very classic and traditional way to serve a fish fry in Buffalo, New York. With all the fixings, including the slice of soft rye bread with butter, he would definitely recommend this Friday fish fry to anyone. P.S. We returned :). Our server, Taylor, was very pleasant and efficient. My French Onion Soup was delicious and satisfying (say cheese:). The broth was on the lighter side, but still flavorful, not too salty, and had just the right amount of herbs. Love this place for the Tuesday night trivia. Great crowd, but food is overpriced. Most of the servers are great. Collin, however, needs an attitude adjustment. First of all, I ordered a pop which he delivered and took my food order. Food was not delivered by him, nor once it was delivered did he stop by to check if we needed refills or anything. Next time we saw him was to give us our checks as trivia was ending. Being annoyed with him, I left $2 on a $9.09 Order. HE GAVE ME THE MONEY BACK AND SAID I COULD KEEP IT. How arrogant. The food is amazing! Generous portions usually allow leftovers to enjoy the next day and it's so delicious! The service is terrific. The ambiance ranges from very relaxing and chill during the day, to louder at night, especially during sports games. In any event, Skoobs is a favorite of ours. read more

Came in on a busy 4th of July. Host said it was a fifteen minute wait so we checked the bar area. No seats except bar high tops. Was told that was twenty minutes, but we took it anyway. Within minutes a girl came over and said she'd be right with us. Then Colin came by and took our drink order and asked about food when he got back. In twenty minutes we had food and drink. Ordered the prime rib sandwich which had crispy fat burnt ends which were soooo good! The rest of the sandwich was pretty lean. I don't like prime rib and I liked this sandwich. I ordered the bang bang chicken sandwich from Colin's suggestion. It was crispy and tasty with none of those yucky cartilage bits in it. Served on a ciabatta roll I was only able to eat half. Just left Skoob's hungry and furious. We had a party of 5 and sat for 45 minutes waiting on our entrees. We asked our server, Renee, what the ETA was for our meals. She advised that we should expect an hour on wing night! That would definitely be something to lead with when ordering, but we could make it work. Here is the worst part. She walks into the kitchen and comes back shortly after to advise that the ticket never went through due to printer error. So we went to Skoobs during an event in the village. We figured it would be busy but the food is always good. Well we sat down and after 15 minutes a waitress finally asked if had been helped. After we explained we had not she said the next waitress in the rotation would be over ... she wasn't I told the first waitress named Liz I was tired of waiting and would tip her great if she just handed us. She did and busted her butt helping us out. The MAJOR problem is the owner/ manager was sitting less than 8' from us not paying attention to what's happening in his restaurant. He was having a good time with his friends, apparently not being a regular means not caring about what kind of service you get. If it weren't for Liz we would have left before our beers were gone. I went for the Southwest Chicken salad. It was huge, but a lot of the bowl was actually field greens. There was a better than average amount of grilled chicken laid on top of the large bowl. There was some Romaine lettuce mixed in with the field greens. Besides the grilled chicken strips, there were black beans, chopped tomato, red onion, supposedly some jalapeños(I saw/tasted none),corn, shredded cheese, some avocado, and tortilla strips. The waitress specifically asked me if I wanted the jalapeños. I said yes, yet found none. The southwest dressing had a nice flavor. It was a large, satisfying salad. read more

We were able to score reservations for a Friday evening about an hour before we arrived (~6:00pm). They were busy, as I'm sure everyone was "TGIF" and ready for a fish fry. Our server was friendly and made sure we were as comfortable as possible for five people sitting at a four-person table (we didn't want to wait for a larger table). We ordered a variety... Wing dings - Breaded wings. They were not crispy, which was quite disappointing. Also, the waitress recommended that we try their hot bbq, but we didn't care for it; it wasn't blended well, literally tasted like Sweet Baby Ray's and Tabasco. Homemade chicken fingers - We ordered kid's size and a regular plate. We enjoyed them and loved the homemade blue cheese. Homemade pizza logs - these were a favorite. I'm not a big pepperoni fan, but it was something about the cut and spice of the pepperoni that made me love these deep-fried rolls. Tater tots - Served nice and crispy. Burger - We added pepperjack cheese and banana peppers. Unfortunately, it didn't have much flavor and wasn't juicy. Overall, we enjoyed going out to eat and trying a new spot. There were 3 of us that came to Skoob's specifically for a fish fry on 3/6/26 around 7pm. It took about 10 minutes for waitress to initially come to our table after we were seated. We did not receive water, nor were asked if we wanted any. They were out of two of the four sides and NO substitutions were offered. How can a restaurant in Western NY be out of sides on Fridays during Lent? (This restaurant has been in business for 8 years, so they should know how to plan for the right amount of food.) Told waitress I wanted to speak to manager to get a discount on our meals. Fortunately, our bill was reduced and no charge for my brother's two soft drinks. I had a group of nine for lunch. Although it was a big group and a busy time of year, the service was fast. And most amazingly, the server did not need to write down any of the orders, he just somehow remembered. One guy ordered the prime rib sandwich but they came back and told him they were out and he had to change unfortunately. The burgers all looked medium well without any pink, regardless of how they were requested. The boom boom chicken sandwiches were tasty and juicy, although we couldn't taste the boom boom sauce on any of the four that were ordered, so I'd go heavier on that. It took us a while to go to Skoobs restaurant in the village of Lancaster because we weren't fans of the prior restaurant. That wasn't smart because the food was great and the service was quick and friendly. Nothing like the prior place! We only ordered bar food with a couple of drinks. We had an order of onion rings that came with this tasty Chipotle dipping sauce. They were crunchy and delicious. We also had the bbq burger sliders. I didn't realize they were bbq when i ordered them but after the first bite, I wasn't disappointed. They were sort of like meatloaf burgers with a bbq glaze on the smaller size Costanzo rolls. The ambience was a little flat for our visit; no music, just one TV showing spectrum news on mute and the Old Fashioneds were not great - ruh-roh! Meat: 5 / 5 Plump, consistent, balanced. Jeepers, these were perfect! Presentation: 3.5 / 5 No clues here. While there was nothing remarkable, there was also nothing wrong either. Cook: 9 / 10 Zoinks! This is how it's done. EVERY wing was cooked to near perfection... hot and juicy with not one of them being dry or overcooked. Specialty: 8.5 / 10 So many clues here so let's split up, gang! Everything wing was a standout flavor; Hot and tangy as promised. Carolina Gold had a strong mustard flavor you don't often find - nicely done; a flavored specialty wing should have flavor! CharBQ were perhaps the best BBQ-style wing we've had outside Bar-Bill. Cajun were the only weak link - way too salty. Standard Medium: 12.5 / 15 Jinkies! The mystery is starting to come together. A good flavor and spiciness with a consistent sauce application. Wing Kings were a bit divided on these with the critical members wishing these packed just a little more wallop. Overall, while they come up just a tad short of the best, these are easily a top-half (maybe even top-third) ranking. Case closed and slump busted. The roll was fresh and had plenty of salt and caraway seeds. The roast beef was without grizzle and carved properly, tender, and melted in your mouth. The server was nice but very busy. We ordered drinks then food. Two of our 3 guests got their food, and we waited for our 3rd guest to get their order. 18 minutes later our 3rd guest got their order. In the meantime our food got cold, because we were courteous to wait to eat together. The server admitted that our 3rd guest's order went to another table and that's why it was so late arriving. The new sandwich arrived cold in the middle.The manager "Scoobs" came to our table after being requested . He was a totally arrogant abrasive and an excuse filled irresponsible idiot that should never be involved with customer relations. I've lived in Lancaster for 33 years, I have eaten all over the place. When I say for the price rhe quality and taste are unreal I mean it. Aside from the rhe atmosphere reminds you of something we lost as a community, laughing, loud (on the right nights) and smiles. The food is quite literally top notch and Homeade. If you want to put that to the test, have a couple drinks and order the poutine. I've been to Canada 500 times, and it's better than anything I've had.
