The cool ranch chicken sandwich was less than advertised. A slice of cold cheese slapped on top is not "smothered in melted Swiss." The lettuce was ROTTEN and black at the edges. A waitress (not ours) noticed that I'd removed it and crumpled it up in a napkin and said "sorry" before walking away. Our waitress returned to our table with more coffee, which we'd had to ask the other waitress for, and didn't acknowledge the issue with the lettuce. She returned a few minutes later with the check, underlining her preference for cash tips. The food tasted good otherwise but I don't trust the quality, or the cleanliness of the place. The bathroom is grimy and it and the hallway leading to it smells like a swamp. The vinegar we requested for the fries had stuff floating in it. Nice service and waitress was friendly. Decor is similar to every other dinner in town. Not bad, just not special. We had two items while there, a Ruben and a Beef in Weck. If you eat here, beware: do NOT leave any of your belongings behind. You'll never see them again. We ate here on a Wednesday and then drove to Toronto. When we arrived there, we realized we couldn't find my husband's jacket, so we called the restaurant. They confirmed they had it, and we said we'd be back the following Wednesday to pick it up, before we flew home. (Our entire vacation was in Canada.) We returned on the day we said, only to find out that the manager had THROWN THE JACKET OUT, despite being told that we were coming back for it. Apparently he "doesn't like things lying around." That's right, he THREW OUT a perfectly good jacket that someone was returning for. The food, meanwhile, was mediocre. However, all that said, all the other staff we interacted with were lovely. This is just one of those places that you can just tell "hangs on" because the people that have been coming here for 30 Years or more just keep coming in because that's what they know. I called in an order for pickup as this is one of my wife's childhood places to eat, simple Souvlaki Salad and Turkey Sub. Was told 20 minutes, showed up right at 20 minutes and had to wait...no big deal. But watching the waitresses interact not only with me but also what few diners there were in the place at 4:45pm on a Friday (?) just left me with a "cold" feeling. Unfriendly and you could tell they probably had worked there for so long that they're not being fired as they know the place inside and out and who else are the owners going to hire !! Dingy lighting and the decor looks old and tired ( ripped booth seats anyone ?? ) Wife enjoyed the Salad, my sub was OK but nothing special. So many other places to choose from around here, my guess is once the generation that's been coming here for so long start to fall off, this may not last. read more

Overall, the food didn't taste too bad, but clearly, the restaurant is not upkept properly. I should have taken pics of the paper menu, which was stained. The ceiling tiles were absolutely filthy from air blowing on them. I will not be returning, and I hope not to get sick judging from the condition of the facility. Not only was the seating very worn but the lack of cushion was overwhelmingly apparent. The server was okay but unremarkable. I ordered swiss cheese instead of the cheddar in the omelet, which didn't happen. The hot sauce was Frank's Red Hot, and it was definitely watered down. I wish it had been a better experience. I am looking for a new breakfast place.....this clearly isn't it. I believe the owner cashed me out; he was a ray of sunshine. This could have easily been a 1 star review. Came in on a Saturday morning and although busy, we were seated right away and our food came out very fast! Service was good too. I ordered the chicken souvlaki omelette which has feta cheese, peppers, and onion. It was pretty good. I'd probably go back to a traditional breakfast though, such as pancakes or French toast. I was looking for a place to have breakfast, the first place had an hour and a half wait. We drove around and found this place. It was now approaching noon so my husband chose breakfast and I chose lunch. The waitress was great and help with ordering and we chose some great food. The place is very nice and food was of good quality. I would come back just because of how we were treated and they made you feel you were at home. Food was brought out quickly and tasted great. I wouldn't say it was fine dining, but good for breakfast and lunch. An awesome place with friendly faces. read more

This diner is a favorite of mine. Along with the other diners owned by the same family. The food is good, the menu is deep enough to satisfy anyone, but most significantly, the service is truly excellent. Today, Michelle waited on us and checked on us every few minutes to make sure our glasses were full and the orders were good, and she is typical of the excellence of the Hillview diner. They know how to prepare eggs and omelettes, fried chicken and fish and meatloaf and hot stuffed banana peppers and the list goes on and on. I have never had a bad meal here. It is a decidedly Greek diner with American fare with a "Greek accent". The portions are large and if you have saved room for dessert, I recommend everything on their dessert menu. The restrooms are clean, their dishes and silverware are appropriate and clean, and there is plenty of parking. You really can't go wrong with the Hillview diner. read more

8/4/23 Breakfast: I had the breakfast melt. Basically scrambled eggs, piece of cheese and ham all on an English Muffin. Home fries included $10, not a bad price. Home fries were dry potatoes. Not much flavor. Egg dish was okay. Potatoes blah. Service: was good. Seated promptly and food served quickly. Ambience: very nice. Warm environment. My first visit here. Hillview is a local restaurant that has been in Depew forever, it has gone through many changes throughout the years all for the better. You can order anything from breakfast at any time of day to a chicken souvlaki salad to full dinners! My favorite is the chicken souvlaki breakfast. They never used to charge you for substitutions but I noticed that changed this year, I tend to always change my breakfast from home fries to French fries but now they charge you an extra $1.25 - kinda weird. It's a great spot to stop at after playing pool at the pool hall next door. read more

They serve a great breakfast but I had some bad experiences there. I'm not sure if it was due to shortage of help during the end of covid, but I sent back my first order but I can't recall what it was. The manager (I think, older man) came to our table and told me to order something else. I chose Lasagna since I didn't figure anyone can botch that up since I'm pretty sure those are made ahead of time in big pans and then warmed. I was so disappointed. The lasagna was 4 inches high and I thought I'd be in for a treat. I took a fork full or two and then uncovered the whole chunk. It was about 10 layers of pasta smothered in sauce. No meat or cheese at all. I didn't eat it, didn't complain,we left and will never go there for dinner again. But... we do go for breakfast now and then. If you're female, well, you'll probably have to ask me for it but I'm still okay with sending you a view of my hill. What to get: Chocolate Shake and Chicken Souvlaki Dinner What else: Show me your hills and I'll let you view my hill I saw the guy from Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters here. But there were so many people around him I could hardly see him. I had a sh*tty "Billview." This place is 24 hours and is near my house and for these facts alone, it should score a 5. And does. But it's more than just the convenience. It's got some great shakes and some damn good food, as it turns out. There are two other "somethingview" diners that are owned by the same people. This is the one that's only 10 mins from where I live, and 5 mins from El Aeropuerto. I dropped my amazing choc shake all over my lap. The waitress just stared at my lap endlessly. I guess she lived the "Spillview." So I reviewed this place before based on the iffy American diner food which is overpriced, and the amazing Chocolate Shake which earned the place a 5. Since then I have been back many times, and I have two more things to report on. But first let's reiterate. Chocolate Shake - this is one of the best shakes in town. It's fluffy and dreamy and delicious and amazingly is still under $4. Buffalo makes some of the best choc shakes in the country and this place is a very good example of that. Come and give one a try, see what you think. American Diner Food - skip it. Had some steak, had some typical diner fare. Go with the Greek instead. I like their Greek Oil to some degree, but I prefer to look at their cucumber sauce. I stare and stare, as long as I have a good "Dillview." Now for the items I only discovered recently. Strawberry Shake - I'm not as much into Straws as I am into just sipping right from the cup. Oh no. I mean, I'm not so into Strawberry as much as Chocolate, Banana, Coffee and even Vaniglia (it's a thing). But the girl I was on a date with recently, loves SB shakes, so we got one. Oh my goodness. It was really fluffy and milky and delicious! And unlike most SBS it was not too sweet at all! If you like SBS then I highly recommend you give TOAT. (This one a try. Keep up.) I once saw the Fresh Prince here. I switched seats with my date so I could get a better "Willview." Open Chicken Souvlaki - so here's the thing. It's not on their damn menu. Which is why I told you in the old review you can't get it here. Oh how wrong I was. You absolutely can get it here, and it's excellent! It's not one of the best 10 in town, but the open is under 10 and the dinner is under 15, and it's competitive in terms of price and taste with a lot of the good ones in the area. You can compare it favourably to Olympic nearby. The salad might not be quite as fresh though. Do not, whatever you do, forget to get a Chocolate Milkshake. So f***ing good. If you go in the bathroom and someone is using mouthwash, you might get a "Swillview." As I've said, if you've read other reviews of mine, Buffalo does better Greek Diners and better Chicken Souvlaki than anywhere else in North America. Here, we marinade the chicken for days, and then it's extraordinarily juicy instead of dry on a stick. It's just a better taste and a juicier flavour. Some places do it better than others. Come here and try it. If it's 3am you're not going to find a better Souvlaki in the suburbs. Royal and Sport Of Kings are good and Alton's and Towne are the best late night options, but this one is up there and if you're a fan of Buffalo style Souvlaki, give it a try. And don't let anyone see all your drugs and meds lying all over your front seat or in your handbag. You don't want to give people that sort of "Pillview." Don't forget to text me bb. read more

I thought I ordered a Souvlaki Style Salad with Grilled Shrimp that I have ordered in the past but it looked more like sub. BTW I wanted a Soulvlaki style Salad with Grilled Lamb Chops but no longer offered. The waitress. I think her name was Sandy. Major attitude. Like my questions where a inconvience and she walked away talking under her breath like I couldn't hear her. Unprofessional! I don't mind paying for what I order. But if your charging ,$14.99 it should be better than what I was severed and leave the tude at home. I've been meaning to write an updated review for Hillview. This has been my go to place when I get out of work on Friday, Saturday or Sunday night. The two waitresses working the overnight on the weekend are amazing! (Karen & Terry) I definitely recommend Hillview if your in the area or passing through the area around midnight to 5am, it's quiet, you occasionally get that one rowdy drunk, but nothing too extreme. The food is hot, fresh, feels like comfort food. Along with Karen & Terry, the rest of the staff I have encountered make you feel welcomed, there's no rush to clear the table. I've never had any problems with the food in recent times, lately I've really been enjoying their MASSIVE Salads! They have so many options to choose from, my favorites have been the Pittsburgh Salad, the waffle style French fries are the best & you can't beat adding steak to top it all off! I've also really been enjoying your basic Chef Salad, I add crumbly bleu cheese & creamy bleu cheese along with a few chicken fingers. Big enough for two. Stopped here before heading out of buffalo on my flight to denver for breakfast today. I didn't realize it was a restaurant that only had limited breakfast items. But I found an item that looked interesting to try. I ordered a chocolate milk to start, not that chocolates for my liking. I then ordered the cranberry walnut bread French toast with a side of bacon. It was good..walnuts threw me off a little. That crunch in a bite of French toast.. ehh could do without that. The rest of the flavor from the cranberry's etc was good though. And the bacon was cooked just right! It was pretty inexpensive and the food had arrived quickly. Although this restaurant is open 24/7 I have only ever gone for breakfast. My family frequently goes here after church on Sundays but it is such a big place that I don't ever recall having to wait to be seated. Often there are 6 or more of us and they have never had a problem seating us as a big party. I always get the chicken soulvaki omlet because it's amazing. I love the sauce that comes with it. Family members have also recommended the eggsadilla which is a breakfast quesadilla. The staff members are very friendly and usually joke around with us and sometimes even remember our orders from previous visits. Although this is a large place it also has a cozy feel with a fireplace. The prices are extremely reasonable and parking is never an issue. read more

Recently the hubbs and I have been on a bit of a diner kick, and decided to give Hillview a try. We went on a weekday night, and it was dead, so being able to stay distanced from others was easy. That was good, but the uncomfortable booths, not so good. Perhaps I just got a bad booth, but the back was nearly inclined towards the table, forcing me to sit almost leaning forward. I didn't ask to move, so that part was my fault. We ordered the meatloaf stack and the lasagna special, both with french onion soup. The french onion was decent, packed with a good amount of onions, not the abundance of toasty cheese I prefer, but still enough. My husband had the lasagna, which was totally burned on the bottom. It was very large, and the parts that weren't burnt were decent. My meatloaf stack was meh'. The mashed potatoes were skimpy, I basically got a half-scoop. I had asked if I could just get two sides of mashed instead of a veggie, and when the waitress said no, I figured the serving would be decent. But no, it was not. Plus several of the green beans I got still had crunchy stems on them. The meatloaf itself was just okay, as was the gravy. All very salty, with not much other flavor besides the saltiness. Prices were a bit high for diner prices, too. With the french onion upcharge, our dinners were both about $15 each. The waitress was very friendly and attentive, and did come around with more coffee, so that was a plus. The menu itself isn't very large for a diner, which usually has a menu so big you have to spread it out nearly into the next booth. But the menu wasn't nearly that expansive here. Besides the meatloaf, there wasn't much else I really wanted to try. The uncomfortable seating, lackluster food, and less-than-large menu are all reasons why we won't rush back to Hillview anytime too soon. I'm not completely averse to giving it another try sometime, but I surely won't run there to do so. read more

Really 2.5 stars today. Usually good for a decent breakfast but Sunday 1/13 was not one of them. Party of three, my wife and FIL order the same thing and same way. Corn beef hash ordered Crispy and eggs over easy. I order the sun view breakfast which is eggs pancakes meat. I order pancakes eggs over easy and bacon. The pancakes are dark, almost burnt, the bacon is chewy. The wife sent her hash back to get it crispy, it wasn't even close. Waitress brings it back later, still not crispy, waitresses response was she was sorry but she had told him to make it crispy and walked away. Now if she knew it still wasn't the way the customer wanted it WHY did she bring it back to the customer? We left . We usually go here often since it's close to church. But with quite a few other options close by, we were not come back for a while. read more

My friend bought me takeout lunch from here today. The order was completed in approx 20 minutes. The Hostess was very friendly and upbeat. I ordered a Tuna Club w/fries. The fries were amazing ... very crispy and flavorful. The tuna club was quite big and the ingredients were fresh. I should have ordered extra mayo however, as the sandwich was a bit dry . Came for breakfast this morning and I think the three star reviews this place has is about right. I ordered the corn beef hash breakfast with potatoes, scrambled eggs, and wheat toast. The eggs and hash were good but the potatoes were mostly lacking flavor. Our waitress was very nice and service was relatively quick. Prices were good too with three people having breakfast for less than thirty dollars! They have a nice menu with a lot of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a dessert case up front just tempting you to try something! The reason for 3 stars ... Everything was dirty ... Everything. This includes the things on the table, the silverware, the benches, the floors, the blinds, the employees clothes, hands, ... Should I go on? The interior design is pretty but very dark. I'm thinking the dark interior and dim lighting is a strategy to hide dirt?? If you're a family of color, this place is not for you. The hostess took one look at my puerto rican family and instantly got an attitude. No warm greeting, just grabbed menus and said "this way". Then the waitress came over with an equally bad attitude. Again no smile, no warm greeting. She said "can I get you some drinks?". Came back and didn't bring my coffee. When I reminded her 5 minutes later, she acted as if I was bothering her. This unacceptable attitude continued the entire time. Upon leaving, no thank you, come again or even a look. We walked past her and she turned her back towards us. The entire time, we sat quietly watching the caucasian patrons get top service. This hurt. In this day and age, we must do better. There's something funny that they put in the water in WNY. I don't know what it is. Still, it's something because people here are...nice. I don't get it. Granted, I've probably spent way too much time in Boston and maybe I'm used to living surrounded by mercurial misanthropists (becoming one myself), but really - nice people. NICE PEOPLE. And strangely enough, one of my warmest welcomes to this place was at the Hillview. I had breakfast (or my interpretation thereof) here every morning during my Buffalo Tour '09. The first day it was without my local friends, and the server covering my table was well, nice. She smiled. She was friendly. She went out of the way to help me figure out where I could catch a band I liked and maybe take in a Monster Truck Show (I've never seen one). (This level of er, niceness was unexpected and at first my Boston-hardened brain froze up. Did not compute. The only experience I can liken it to was the time in college where I had to speak Urdu in front of a room full of native speakers and the only thing I could remember how to say was, "I see an ink pot." My point here is that though I'm sure it seemed that I should be wearing Velcro shoes and a helmet, the staff was still super nice. Yes, nice.) The menu was insane - they can pretty much cater to anyone's taste. No one blinked when I ordered my usual breakfast that consists mostly of side dishes, and I was actually *asked* if I wanted onions in my hash browns (a resounding "no," as it's known in some circles that onions are used by the devil in his hellish home decor; the deviiiiiiilll! I think it may be in place of potpourri.) They buttered my bagel before I could put cream cheese on it - while this may cause a stroke in the weak, it is a tasty, tasty kind of aneurysm. I'm talking diner decadence. They don't cut corners. The next day I came in with a group of folks who live in the area. Different server this time, and she knew the names and predilections of my friends, finishing their sentences as they ordered. With me and my companion she was perfectly pleasant, not shooting me a glare when I ordered a grilled cheese with a cup of fruit for breakfast (these guys make a mean grilled cheese - it reminded me of the lunches Mom made me before Hebrew school when I was a kid). Everyone else seemed perfectly pleased with their meals. It was the same thing the next day. Same friendly server who treated the four of us like old friends. This time I had blueberry covered waffles, but only because I got flustered when it was my turn to order and I couldn't think of anything. Still, the waffles were good enough that the Weight Watchers devotee next to me kept snagging bites. The food here is good, don't get me wrong. But the staff here exude the kind of warmth that I've seen in many WNYers (enough to throw me off balance), and ultimately this is why I'll be back. PS.
