A great date night spot! We came here on a Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The salad was surprisingly very good - it was lusciously crisp and had delightfully airy croutons that were more like eating tiny TX toasts. The cocktails were on point. My husband enjoyed his old fashioned and my drink, the Crush, was lovely with its refreshing nature and tasting of actual pressed grapes. Service was wonderful throughout the night. The hostess originally sat us by the bar area but since it was a bit loud, I asked to be seated elsewhere to which she accommodated. Our server was very warm and welcoming, and was switched to a different one because apparently they were mistakenly assigned to our table. Water was refilled consistently, I never felt like I was running low. Parking is plentiful since they have spaces by the restaurant and its own parking lot. Valet parking is free. Only down side was the valet attendant. With it being our first time there, we drove up to ask the attendant about the free valet. He said in clear annoyance, "there's a spot right there" and pointed behind us. We had to reverse down a one-way with the entrance right behind in order to park. Another car came moments later and he attended to them without hesitation. When we were leaving, he was leaning against his podium on his phone.

My favorite solo bar dinner spot ever. I'm a regular here and it's so consistent with quality and service! The bartenders at the bar only make drinks and serve to the people at the bar. The main dining has their own kitchen bartender, which is really nice. Cameron, Amy, Keith and Danny are the typical bartenders I am with when I go and they are all so sweet and remember you. I typically enjoying the tortilla soup or the spinach dip and having a couple martinis for dinner. The martinis always have ice crystals and are made just right! They replace the martini glass to a fresh frozen one when it starts to get a little warm. The steak is amazing if you feel like splurging a little, my favorite in a while! Highly recommend Houston staple!

I came here with my friends for dinner and I had a good experience. I loved the ambiance and our server was fantastic. However I thought the food and price of everything was expensive for what it was. I felt everything needed salt sadly. The cocktails were OK; I tasted more fruitiness than actual alcohol. The spinach dip was very good though. Other than that, I don't think I would return here.

Honestly, I'm still salivating writing this review. I'm originally from New Orleans so Houston's has been my go-to for years. Hillstone didn't disappoint when it came to the Hawaiian Ribeye. It was cooked to PERFECTION. Although it was packed, I got seated at the bar pretty quickly. The service was phenomenal -- I feel like that's a Hillstone staple generally. If you love a good French 75, Hillstone has the perfect one for you!! As a girl who loves a spinach dip and a drink, I'll definitely be back.

We are regulars at this location and I love that the staff always recognize us. We always get great service. I normally have the veggie burger, but today I tried Ding's crispy fried chicken sandwich. It comes dressed with tangy coleslaw, tomato and cheese. it's a big sandwich but it's cut into three, slider sized pieces; easier to handle. It comes with a side of Hillstone's (Houston's) signature French fries and the spicy mayo - Yum! Totally enjoyed and recommend. My hubby had his usual cheeseburger. It's always good, so he sees no need to change. Always recommend. Finally we had our usual apple walnut cobbler, served with a Scoop of vanilla ice cream! OK, it is the real reason for the visit! Over the years , it is smaller but still delicious and enough.

If consistency had a home address, it would be Houston's. Every single visit feels like stepping into a culinary hug - warm lighting, polished service, and food so good it low-key has me questioning my life choices wherever I eat anywhere else. I've been to Houston's many many times and it's my go to spot for celebrations. This time we were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. We order the same thing every single time. The spinach and artichoke dip and the center cut filet which comes paired with whipped potatoes and broccolini. To end dinner, we get their famous key lime pie. It's the perfect balance of tang and sweetness. I clean my plate here every time! The service is always on point. The staff is friendly without being fake, attentive without hovering, and somehow always two steps ahead. Need a refill? Already on your table. Need a recommendation? They know the menu like they wrote it. And the atmosphere? Sleek, cozy, and intimate. Whether it's a date night, birthday dinner, or celebration, Houston's delivers every single time. Basically, if you want dinner that hits so hard you start thinking about it again the next morning, go to Houston's. Absolute 10/10.

Stopped in to have lunch since we were in the area. No reservations are required here. They were pretty busy but we were able to order and get our appetizers and entrees in a timely manner. Our waiter was great(forgot his name) The jumbo shrimp, spinach dip and burgers were all delicious. Lights are dim inside for a more intimate setting. They do have complimentary valet parking if needed. Self parking isn't a hassle tho. Also this place is very strict when it comes to phones and kids etc! If I'm not mistaken this restaurant used to be named Houston's! They also DO NOT ACCEPT DISCOVER CARDS I don't plan to EVER DINE HERE AGAIN. Not bc I had a bad experience they were great.

Hillside Houston is a whole experience. The ambiance is gorgeous, the service is polished, and everything just flows effortlessly. Definitely one of those places you go when you want to feel a little extra without trying too hard.

A classic place with classic options My husband loves this place and it was my first time there. While the experience was fine and the food was good, there was nothing that would really make me go out of my way to come here again. Parking: They have a huge parking lot with self parking or valet Vibe/Seating: The space is huge and there's plenty of seating . We had a booth in the middle of the space. I like the classic old- school design and the dimmer lighting Food: All the food was good but nothing really stood out to me... the crab cakes were fine but the Cole slaw side was a bit too sweet. The salad was really good and the drinks were strong . Service: Our waitress was so sweet! She made great cappuccinos Other notes: There seems to be a dress code though I'm not sure what it is. There were people in shorts and sandals, as well as dressed up. My husband was asked pretty quickly to take his hat off when he sat down - so they are enforcing some rules but I'm not clear on what they are

I will say this flavor particularly was a 5/5 for me. It was exactly what I was looking for (carbs, spicy Caesar salad...not hard to please). However, I haven't found myself wanting to come back even though I drive past this area pretty frequently. If I did come back, I'd probably just order the same flavor again because it was that good. The Zeppelin is very filling though and kept me good for 2 meals, I just think nothing else on the menu appealed to me (other than the Spicy Tejano) enough to steer away from my go-to sandwich/bowl places if the craving for that type of food ever came. The staff were super friendly though and parking wasn't terrible. I can see why they chose the location since it is a great lunch spot for people in the area tbat want something quick but don't wanna run into the mall/opt for fast food drive thru.

Parking can be tight depending on the time/day. This location feels like it has more indoor seating and a better patio than The Heights which is more exposed to the outdoor elements off the trails. I couldn't remember if I'd been here before until old photos I posted showed. I'm used to The Heights location which is closer to me. It's been about 5 years when I first moved to the loop that I went here with a friend. I had the OG Brussels sprouts which were my favorite when they still had Benjy's in Rice Village. It was a staple for 25 years. They closed in 2020 to expand Local Foods. Pretty bummed because Benjy's was great and had an amazing pecan-crusted goat cheese appetizer with pita. It had more of a cocktail lounge vibe that my friends and I would frequent back in grad school for HH. They had another location off Washington, but that is also closed and is now Forget Me Not. Anyways, the Brussels sprouts were amazing, and I always loved them. I'm glad that Local Foods occasionally features it as a special. I usually gravitate towards the crunchy chicken sandwich. The pretzel bun is everything, and the filling is loaded. If you have a bit allergy, this is not for you. It has pecans in them. I like the added potato chips, too. This time I tried the tacos de camote which was a sweet potato taco. I couldn't find any photos of it on this Yelp page, but I've had sweet potato tacos before in Scottsdale and was hooked. I didn't expect two large wedges on sweet potato lodged in a taco shell. It was delicious and carmelized. You could hear the crunchy outside texture. Loved that. What I didn't love was the difficulty of eating it. The wedges were huge, and the sweet potato was too hot and steamy. It would've been better had they been diced. The pumpkin seed mixture was good but too spicy with the jalapeños. I like spicy food but didn't expect that. The tacos needed salsa or crema to cut through the heat. I picked off the jalapeños and fork and knifed the sweet potato after a few bites with the taco shell. The taco itself is a blue nixtamilized corn tortilla. It held up the taco filling fairly well considering the huge wedge of sweet potato. It also dripped the oil off the sweet potato. I couldn't taste much of the refried beans. I liked these tacos, but it was a little too spicy and didn't have the acid it needed to make it better. I ate the sweet potatoes and nixed the tortillas. As for the sides, I usually get the kale salad because theirs doesn't taste like dirt. Lol. They add enough lemon, pine nuts, golden raisins and Parmesan cheese to make it taste better. I could eat a bowl of that. It's always served in a tiny container. I also get their homemade potato chips. It's dusted with Old Bay seasoning. It can be oily at times, though. This time, I tried a seasonal side of strawberries that was recommended by the guy at the register. It was delicious. The strawberries were soaked in a slightly sweet simple syrup with chopped basil. They have a variety of lemonades, tea, fountain drinks, cocktails and refrigerated beverages to choose from. Lemonade can be too sweet, so I dilute it with ice and water. I like that it's open with the cups and plastic to-go cups if that's your preference. I've always enjoyed what Local Foods offers and like that they offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Service is friendly, and it's a nice, casual place to dine in or on the patio.

Leaf & Grain is the spot to satisfy those cravings. This West University location is easy to find and it located on a corner of a large shopping strip. Parking is plentiful. Inside is spacious and is warm and inviting with lots of seating. Counter service is how they run business and they do it well with a great customer service. As I'm sure you've guessed from their name, they specialize in salads and grain bowls. The menu is not big by any means. A little more variety would be great. Both the salad and grain bowl categories have about 3 or 4 options each. They also have 3 plate options as well with chicken or seafood. If you're in the mood for a sandwich they have a few of those options as well. My eyes locked in on one of their seasonal warm bowls. In the summer months, they have cooler, cold options. My eyes locked in on the Massaman Curry. I'm a sucker for Thai flavors and this bowl was calling out to me. It came with a bed of brown rice, topped with chicken, peppers, onions, cilantro, spinach and topped with a curry sauce. They also gave a chili powder on the side if I wanted to make it spicy along with some peanuts. Yes please! The bowl was presented nicely. I mixed it all together and added a dash of the Thai chili powder. This dish was delicious. Not trying to be funny, but I wasn't expecting that much flavor coming out of a dish from a grain and salad spot. The ingredients were fresh and the curry was so flavorful. I tasted hints of coconut that made it slightly sweet, but it packed some heat to it as well. I loved the contrast in textures as well. I washed it down with a Mango Deck (mango, strawberries, banana, agave and coconut milk) smoothie which was a perfect, refreshing sip to go along with the spicy meal. Overall, I liked this place alot. Sometimes it's nice to have a meal without having a guilty conscience afterwards. I will definitely come back if in the area.

Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.

One friend had the Thai steak salad and I had the veggie burger made with quinoa, beets and other vegetables. Wow...is what I will say!!! It was so flavorful and the focaccia bun (not gluten free) was incredible! Plus the double cooked fries were delicious! Oh, the side potato salad and kale salad were also delicious! I look forward to being back there next time I'm in Houston!!

At this point, I've tried several of their coffee drinks, shrub sodas, lemonades, burgers, and baked goods. It's all been tasty and well-made. My personal favorite is the lamb kafta burger with the addition of duck fat potatoes. It's a game changer and I highly recommend. Staff is always friendly and helpful, and there is ample indoor and outdoor seating. They also sell a lot of food goodies by the entrance so you can shop around while you're there too. One downside is the parking is a bit limited, but they have overflow parking nearby so just keep that in mind.

I order the mezze plate, chai latte and the smoked salmon tartine. All three were outstanding. The mezze plate was fresh and perfect for sharing. The smoked salmon tartine was fresh and had the perfect zing from the capers and red onion. The staff were extremely pleasant and there was plenty of staff on the clock. They were very accommodating to my mom who's in a wheel chair and offered complimentary drip coffee refills for her since she couldn't get them herself. I would highly suggest Agnes for a casual breakfast or lunch. There were lots of people reading and doing work, so I think this may be a new study spot for me. Overall, a 10/10.
