Wonderful x infinity!! I had been to another (great) location back in October with a totally different ambience. This one was equally wonderful with the outdoor seating area that was perfect for conversations and relaxing. The lights back there are lovely and plenty of space to not be disturbed. The food...EXCELLENT!! I had the pistachio encrusted salmon dish that was as good as it gets!! See pic. My friends had the quinoa burger and a chicken bowl of some sort. We all loved everything!! Oh, and the vegan carrot cake muffin was OOTW!!!
Great choice for a healthier eating out activity. Food is supper yummy. They also have a great assortment of drinks. Both outside and inside seating is available. I will be back for sure!
Local Foods in the Upper Kirby/River Oaks area has a slightly different vibe than the one in The Heights because it's located in a shopping strip on a busy street (W Gray) with nice retail shops and restaurants. Parking can be tight depending on the time/day. This location feels like it has more indoor seating and a better patio than The Heights which is more exposed to the outdoor elements off the trails. I couldn't remember if I'd been here before until old photos I posted showed. I'm used to The Heights location which is closer to me. It's been about 5 years when I first moved to the loop that I went here with a friend. I had the OG Brussels sprouts which were my favorite when they still had Benjy's in Rice Village. It was a staple for 25 years. They closed in 2020 to expand Local Foods. Pretty bummed because Benjy's was great and had an amazing pecan-crusted goat cheese appetizer with pita. It had more of a cocktail lounge vibe that my friends and I would frequent back in grad school for HH. They had another location off Washington, but that is also closed and is now Forget Me Not. Anyways, the Brussels sprouts were amazing, and I always loved them. I'm glad that Local Foods occasionally features it as a special. I usually gravitate towards the crunchy chicken sandwich. The pretzel bun is everything, and the filling is loaded. If you have a bit allergy, this is not for you. It has pecans in them. I like the added potato chips, too. This time I tried the tacos de camote which was a sweet potato taco. I couldn't find any photos of it on this Yelp page, but I've had sweet potato tacos before in Scottsdale and was hooked. I didn't expect two large wedges on sweet potato lodged in a taco shell. It was delicious and carmelized. You could hear the crunchy outside texture. Loved that. What I didn't love was the difficulty of eating it. The wedges were huge, and the sweet potato was too hot and steamy. It would've been better had they been diced. The pumpkin seed mixture was good but too spicy with the jalapeños. I like spicy food but didn't expect that. The tacos needed salsa or crema to cut through the heat. I picked off the jalapeños and fork and knifed the sweet potato after a few bites with the taco shell. The taco itself is a blue nixtamilized corn tortilla. It held up the taco filling fairly well considering the huge wedge of sweet potato. It also dripped the oil off the sweet potato. I couldn't taste much of the refried beans. I liked these tacos, but it was a little too spicy and didn't have the acid it needed to make it better. I ate the sweet potatoes and nixed the tortillas. As for the sides, I usually get the kale salad because theirs doesn't taste like dirt. Lol. They add enough lemon, pine nuts, golden raisins and Parmesan cheese to make it taste better. I could eat a bowl of that. It's always served in a tiny container. I also get their homemade potato chips. It's dusted with Old Bay seasoning. It can be oily at times, though. This time, I tried a seasonal side of strawberries that was recommended by the guy at the register. It was delicious. The strawberries were soaked in a slightly sweet simple syrup with chopped basil. They have a variety of lemonades, tea, fountain drinks, cocktails and refrigerated beverages to choose from. Lemonade can be too sweet, so I dilute it with ice and water. I like that it's open with the cups and plastic to-go cups if that's your preference. I've always enjoyed what Local Foods offers and like that they offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Service is friendly, and it's a nice, casual place to dine in or on the patio.
The Crunchy Chicken sandwich is absolutely amazing The rest of the experience was great, too! The menu has a good variety of interesting and healthy options. The service was great and the food was brought out to us super fast. A bonus is that they have cute little booths indoors for couples. Will definitely be going back!
Wow! This place worked for me. You order at the counter, seat yourself & they bring your food based on the number they provided to you. My power bowl was just simply wonderful. The combination of flavors were outstanding. A power bowl with beans, quinoa, veggies( squash,zucchini, tomatoes,onions, eggplant) peas. Everything was laid in rows so you can incorporate the flavors as you desire. We sat outside & it's a lovely patio environment. Service was good. Food came out quickly. People picked up our plates as we finished. I will absolutely return to this location or try any of the other locations. Great, great lunch spot.
I got the crunchy chicken sandwich and was a little disappointed, but for a very small reason. The chicken portion was solid and the bread was crunchy like advertised, but the sandwich itself was pretty bland and felt like it was missing a sauce. I ended up adding ranch, which helped. The potato salad was good, but the fruit slaw wasn't really for me and probably not something I'd order again. On the plus side, the interior is really nice with both indoor and outdoor seating. They also have self-serve water, sodas, and condiments after ordering, which I thought was a nice touch. Parking was easy when I went.
That chicken sandwich!!! Man, oh man was that great! I had read about the sandwich years ago and always wanted to try it. Im glad that I stumbled (i was just looking for a place to eat as I drove) upon Local. The food was delicious! I also had the green pozole, man what great flavors it had! I was impressed, it had roasted seeds in it and was just full of different textures and flavor. This was Probably the best chicken sandwich I have ever had and a great pozole. When in Houston, you Have to try the chicken sandwich!
a family favorite. Extremely attentive service for counter ordering. Salads and veggies in sandwiches are always fresh, and food is consistently tasty. Their kale salad is so delicious. Establishment and restrooms are clean. Parking can get full on weekends especially for Sunday brunch but there are also parking in the back so never an issue.
I love this location. There's plenty of parking and plenty of seats indoors as well as outside on their patio. I come here when I'm looking for a healthy food option. There's plenty of vegan and vegetarian options as well. You can convert any of their sandwiches into a salad. I had the garden Sammie turned into a salad and it was just ok. My friend had the taco salad and really enjoyed her food. The best thing on the menu was definitely the vegan cashew queso and chips. It tastes just like real cheese.

I had the vegan harvest sandwich with the vegan broccoli cheddar soup and some chips. The chips were so crispy and delicious; I would eat a bag of them if they made bags of them! Stopped by for a Valentines dinner and we had the beef entree and the salmon salad. Beef was good and tender and my salmon filet was cooked perfectly. Salad was good amount. Service is still order at the front and they bring food to you. I saw a lot of solo eating here tonight. We sat on the patio and they have ample indoor and outdoor seating. The music is much louder than I can remember a lot of 80s/90s stuff to the point of not being able to hear the other person. Recommended for healthy eating and hope they turn down the volume in the future.
Local foods is such a vibe. And as a celiac girly, they are such a welcome repose from having to constantly worry about whether a menu item has gluten or not at other places. Great service! This location probably has the best service of the ones I've been to. Lots of outdoor seating as well at this location. Perfect to do work inside or outdoors. I got the Thai steak bowl which wasn't my favorite. It was more of a cold bowl which I didn't realize. Loved our artichoke dip! It looks dry but it is creamy underneath and a healthy version of traditional artichoke cream cheese dip. As always, finished with the vegan carrot cupcake which is a must have! read more

I have been to local foods dozens of times and it never gets old. I literally get the same thing EVERY TIME. This week I visited twice. So I decided it is time to review this place. I have been to one other location in the Houston area but to me this is the best location. Always consistent, fast, clean, and friendly with huge portions. Lunch time gets busy just an fyi! Parking is a breeze usually because they have a parking lot. Every single time I come to local foods I get the same thing and I recommend you try it if you haven't. It's called the Crunchy Chicken Sandwich with pickles and chips. I could eat this every day and never get tired of it. It has so much flavor, chicken, and texture. It's perfect in every way. Do yourself a favor and try this sandwich. If you're lucky and they have the cucumber limeade please try that as well! I wait every year for it to come back and it's there right now so go go go! read more

This spot lives up to its name. Love the decor. Nice open concept with plenty of sunlight inside and scenic patio seating outdoor. Place is super clean and well kept. Staff was super sweet and attentive absolutely no complaints. Food was soooo yummy. Definitely one of those spots with "feel good foods". Plus add a cocktail/drink menu and you've created an absolute fan out of me. Will be returning and will be endorse to anyone wanting some nice clean eats! read more

I came to Houston to visit a friend and when I told her I was hungry, she insisted on ordering Local Foods. After tasting their food, I completely understand why. I ordered exactly what her go-to is, the Garden Sammie as a salad, add chicken. Sometimes, salads don't competely fill me up, so I was skeptical but she reassured me that this would be different. Boy was she right! When I recieved my delivery, I saw that this was the BIGGEST salad I have ever gotten in my life! Not only that, it was packed with the toppings (cauliflower, brussels, hummus, chicken), making it so hearty. The lemon vinagarette was the cherry on top, but honestly, with the explosion of falvors, wasn't even needed. This was delicious and probably the best salad I've ever had. I'll be dreaming of it for a while. read more

The food here is great and the servers were really nice! My friend and I came here after the Houston marathon a couple weeks ago and our experience was great. I got the apple pie french toast and it was delicious! I usually prefer savory foods for brunch but it hit the spot. I will say the cinnamon whipped cream didn't really taste like much to me. My friend got the vegan nachos for us to share and they were also really good! read more

I've gone here a few times and each time is delicious! You order your food at the counter and they give you a number and you can pick a table either inside or outside and they bring your food to you. I've only ever eaten outside because the weather and the vibes are always so nice. Cute umbrellas! I've had their banh mi sandwich before - tasty! Chimichurri steak torta sandwich - def a favorite! Crunchy chicken sandwich - always a solid choice! As for the sides; the chips are not my favorite but I do like the kale salad! I finally went during weekend brunch time around 11:30 and I got the cheesesteak omelette. It was huge! The egg was nice and fluffy and there was a ton of meat. They definitely didn't skimp on the portions. It was really yummy! I was able to take half of it home. I paired it with their seasonal honey iced latte and it was so good! I scarfed down my coffee lol Now that I've been for breakfast/lunch/dinner I figured I'd write a review and recommend this place! read more
I checked out Local Foods for the first time yesterday. I did go during an odd time, between 2 and 3, for a late lunch. There was plenty of seating, the place was calm, and ordering was quick. I ended up going with the Taco Salad and subbed in the taco meat for chicken. I was grateful that the cashier double checked with me before confirming my order. I had no idea that the Taco Salad came with Taco meat and she told me before I placed my order. When I got my salad, I was greatly impressed by the portion and the taste. What a perfect place to grab a yummy light bite to eat! I snuck in right before the Friday lunch rush and ordered a summer pasta salad (warm)... This is located in the former Taco Milagro corner spot on Westheimer and Kirby with all the mad construction. I ordered this amazingly delicious and flavorful summer vegetable pasta that was warm and on the chefs special menu. I paired it with a refreshing cantaloupe juice ! Nut allergy warning: Most dishes at Local Foods have nuts. There are really limited options for people with a nut allergy and most are relatively pricey or not as healthy. I wouldn't recommend eating here with a nut allergy to be honest. Food came out really quickly, just about 8 minutes from ordering. I had the Gulf seafood sandwich and the only sides that were good were the chips and potato salad (not a fan of pickle, and the watermelon portions were just not much). The sandwich was great - very flavorful, decent portions. Much more shrimp than crab, though (4.5/5). The potato salad was okay, flavorful but a bit too much mustard (3.5/5). The chips varied in size and quality. Some felt almost stale but others were fine (2.5/5). It was very pricey ($21+ with tax and tip) so I wouldn't come back often. It gets packed around 12:30PM, but we got a table easily at 11:30AM. read more

Really surprised with flavor, especially with the broccoli and cheese soup being vegan! Wanted to check out this place and didn't realize the menu mainly consisted of most things being gluten free, vegan, or nut heavy - they do a great job of the dishes having the same flavor as if it did have dairy! The limeade was extremely tart, but still refreshing. Order at counter, and receive a table #. Plenty of seating inside, or outdoor. read more
This place takes the cake on fresh delicious healthy food. No doubt! Food: Bahn Mi- this thing was packed with freshness and flavor. 10 out of 10 Spring harvest- extremely fresh salad, amazing. Fair warning, it is very earthy! But fresh and delicious if you like earthy. Red potato salad- literally probably the best potato salads we have ever tried. We loved this most honestly lol. I love the vibe of this place although I usually pick my up orders up to go. Its super chill and the customers always seems so relaxed.Plus, its only ten minutes from where I stay so the convenience of it is also a positive.The vegan queso chili w/ tortilla chips and vegan carrot cake are my faves!!!! The portion size is literally enough for two meals and that carrot cake with the buttercream on top is heavenly. It a generous amount with the right amount of sweetness that won't put you into a sugar coma. Keep up the good work!!! See you soon read more

After not having visited Local Foods for a few years, a friend and I stopped in for brunch this past weekend. I liked this location a lot more than the one I had previously visited as it was cozy on the inside and had ample parking. As there weren't many other people there, we were able to order immediately as we walked in. I decided to get the "Crunchy" Chicken Sandwich with housemade chips and potato salad. The sandwich was delicious and I loved that they used a pretzel bun. They also didn't skimp on the ingredients within the sandwich which I also appreciated. The housemade chips were not something I would order again and the potato salad was OK but nothing out of this world. Overall, I thought the prices were a little high but part of that is the area this restaurant is in. I would absolutely order this sandwich again but would try different sides next time. read more

Local Foods has been consistently good over the years, it's a perfect place for quick and healthy meals, casual and easy, self-service, quality ingredients and affordable prices. I particularly love this location for its cute outdoor seatings. We got the Salmon Poke and Vegan power bowl (comes a variety of vegetables, brown rice and quinoa, and pine nut sauce). Both bowls are so filling and nutrient dense. Yum yum yum! read more
