Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen needed caffeine in a bad way. This was a lovely place to land in the city of Ojai. They roast their own coffee and it is quite good. A very smooth finish. We also ordered the breakfast raspberry bun. It was perfect. If I could make a couple of recommendations, I would suggest servers' long hair be pulled back while working near food and remind the very kind and busy (!) cashiers (not the servers or food prep!) to sanitize their hands after a sneeze. We've been here 5+ times now and the first 2 times were great with service and food was excellent. Last few times the service was inconsistent. Some servers are great and others seem to be very spaced out. Food has been different each time as well such as different porpotions of ingredients in dishes. Today the kale in the Kyoto bowl was not sauted and just plopped on top of the bowl. My wife just ended up pulling it out and not eating it. Also, we weren't greeted for about 15 minutes and then no acknowledgement either of the wait once we were greeted we only saw the server one other time when she came over to tell us she was taking her break and someone else would be taking care of us. The other girl who helped us toward the end was definitely nice and attentive. One thing to note which at the end of the day is what it is... The kids cheese burger is $15 and add a gluten free bun to that and it comes out to $19. For a kids meal that's pretty wild. We're used to the upcharge on gluten free options seeing as we have two kids who don't do well with gluten so I'm not surprised by it, it just might be a good idea to add that upcharge for GFO to the kids menu (not that we would have not ordered the GF option, but I think menu price and upcharges should always be very transparent on a menu). But yeah, $19 for a kids burger... And it says it comes plain and the server reiterated that too but it came with lettuce for some reason. My kids didn't mind it at all but this was another sign to us that there are some inconsistencies here in the kitchen. Also, I really dislike leaving negative reviews as I managed and worked in restaurants for years in my younger days. I'm leaving a review after my first visit & I will be back! First impressions - super busy, kind staff, clean area, well loved establishment. I was greeted kindly and helped out quickly. I popped in around 1pm on a Sunday and let the host know it was my first time (I wasn't sure if it was a waited visit or order and sit). She explained their service and how it varies by weekdays or weekend. I ordered a simple burger, fries, and an iced latte. The staff were very sweet and attentive, refilling my water and checking in on me often. I hung out for over an hour after I finished eating to read and took a iced matcha home. Love this restaurant! It has been very busy lately but unfortunately half the place is taken up by squatting lap top rats. Single people taking up whole tables with a coffee and their office. I just can't deal with buying a big meal with friends then having to search for a table not in the hot sun. Unfortunately these people have taken over restaurants as well as cafes. At the bar they are spaced out with single seats between them. We do love the food here and the cocktails are excellent. The farro salad was great , fish sandwiches is really tasty too. really disappointing visit. came to ojai for our bachelorette weekend. we booked a reservation with a manger in janurary for a table of 11 at 11:00am. when we arrived to check in, they said the person we booked with doesn't even work here anymore and had nothing on their side. the staff were pretty apologetic and pushed a few tables together. food took over an hour to arrive, food came out luke warm like it was sitting in the window a while. we were really looking forward to eating here but i wouldn't recommend for larger parties or booking out in advance. seems like they're just not ready for weekend breakfast service; all tickets were on red the entire two hours we dined. this is definitely a management issue read more

We came for the branzino after hearing about it the fish multiple times on Hell's Kitchen and their version did NOT disappoint! It was crisply fried yet delicate in its sweetness and flake. The Spiced Cauliflower and Feta starter that was tasty with its delectable spices and creamy, smooth Feta along with the truly unique Smoked Trout dip with trout roe accompanied by an assortment of cucumbers, watermelon turnips and saltines. Last but not least the peanut caramel Boudin which was not cloyingly sweet but just enough to cut your savory palate at the end of your meal. Decent food, but the service was SLOW, and the restaurant wasn't even full. There were multiple instances where the servers and bussers would take care of the table around us, but seemed to ignore our needs (serve water, take orders, etc.). When we first got seated, we weren't given water, and our order wasn't taken until 20 minutes in, after I CALLED over a waiter. I tried to wave down a waiter 10 and 15 minutes into our experience, but they would talk to the table next to us, then run away to the kitchen or the bar. I was wondering if this was on purpose or something, given how many opportunities they had to take our orders, fill our waters, and give us a candle, yet they treated us as invisible. Again, the tables around us got more attention, even the table next to us that needed cleaning got 3+ bussers (which doesn't even make sense? It should only take one person to clear the table, IT'S NOT A RELAY RACE). I saw another couple leave after getting their appetizers, so they also got the hint that the service was subpar. I don't usually write reviews or make a big fuss about restaurant service as a Gen Zer, but their service system needs to change because it shouldn't take 7+ people to (barely) run a restaurant floor at 70% capacity. I am disappointed as I booked this restaurant for Valentine's Day with high expectations. Definitely don't go here if you have plans after dinner, because you will not make it there in time. The food was okay (got the arugula artichoke dip, bolongese, half chicken), but the ambience really saves this place. If you walk along Ojai's main street, you will find 10+ restaurants with lovely ambience, so try those places instead. *Note: It seems like people on Yelp do get quick and friendly service sometimes, so maybe it depends on who is working that night.
