The Hub has that old-school, no-frills, local hangout vibe that feels like it's been there through a thousand Ojai sunsets. It's cozy, unpretentious, and genuinely fun. The drinks were solid, the atmosphere was relaxed, and it felt like one of those places where you can actually exhale and just be. The service was perfect! Rob was the absolute best! It was very quiet here on Thursday night when we came to play pool. It's a cash only bar and no snack options. It's more of a vibe than a place to come to for other things; hence why we just can't to play pool. When karaoke night started, the 3 people in here got up she left it was dead after that. But I have to say, as unpopular as this place may be on a weekday, I appreciate that it's still here in Ojai because it adds so much flavor. I really think they should consider aging a food menu tho to get more visitors. I think this place could really elevate if they wanted. read more

Absolutely everything could improve. The only thing that was halfway decent was the drink and even with that I had to say no to multiple of my typical go to because they were out of everything. They used to have a great karaoke event here on Saturday Nights. But it got canceled because of the arrogant, unprofessional owner would close the bar whenever he couldn't make work and was too stingy to hire anyone else. So the host canceled the show because he wouldn't pay her when he canceled. One time I ordered a double shot of expensive liquor and found it gone after I went to the bathroom even though there was still a fair amount of booze left. The cheapskate owner refused to comp me. We didn't plan on coming here during our brief stay in Ojai; in fact, I think they had only recently opened back up again, due to easing COVID restrictions. But, with the bike outside and the great music spilling from inside, we had to stop in. (In hindsight, perhaps not the smartest, as no one was wearing masks inside, of course). We moseyed up to the bar (where chairs were somewhat socially distanced and ordered some beer. Steve, who I think is the owner, was super nice. I have read some pretty nasty reviews about him, so I guess we got him on a good night, lol! The reviews make it sound like he's not a fan of out-of-towners, which we are and which is pretty obvious to tell. But, we can very easily blend into a dive bar, so everyone was cool. Super interesting patrons, including the super drunk guy that other patrons were keeping in check, the super drunk angry woman that the bouncer removed as soon as she entered, the guy who looked like a cenobite with his crazy long leather coat, and, sadly, the shrieking 'party girls,' who took over the jukebox for a period of time so they could all sing and dance along to "Dancing Queen." Worst bar experience in my life. The owner charged me $20 for a cosmo and when I was surprised by the price, he told me and my 4 friends out of the bar, threatened us that he would call the police, grabbed the bouncer and told us all to leave. I have been coming here for decades. Always hit and miss. I was here seeing boingo at the libby and went in with my buddy. The new owner was tending bar and obviously overwhelmed. I tried to get us drinks for a half hr. Then I remembered it's cash only. Went to the atm and it robbed me of 120$. I went with my receipt and finally got his ear. What happened? Super predatory behavior welcomed at The Hub. Went on a Wednesday night and it was unexpectedly busy. A woman hopped behind the bar to help out, and kept giving my friend free drinks. After the rush, she came out from behind the bar and started making out with my friend. I told the bartender my friend didn't want to make out with her and that she had a girlfriend and the bartender walked away. A little bit later, she came back, pushed me aside to get back to my friend, pulled her away, and started making out again. I pulled them apart again and said the woman needed to leave us alone. She stepped away for a bit but as she passed me to go back to the bar, she threw her drink on me. She went to make herself another drink and acted like it never happened and I was the causing a problem. I called a few days later to speak to the owner because he needed to know what was going on with people working at the bar and my call was never returned. After speaking to friends and other Ojai residents about the Hub, so many of them have stories of people being predatory and retaliating when boundaries are put up and it's shocking more people don't know how dangerous this place can be read more

Asked for a replacement, and the bartender insisted on charging me for the new one as well. $6 isn't a big deal, but at least acknowledge the fact something was wrong. I came here bc it has the All-American bar experience and feel. Something that isn't CA. Or was the California of yesteryear. A bar that looks like it came from the same block where factory workers come to chill after their shift, or the depressed idealist comes to pour his heart out to the local barkeep. The owner is the bartender, which of you make good friends, he can be your therapist, but more likely Mr. Jack Daniels or Johny Walker will do most of it though in the form of release of endorphin. The beer selection is a few but the best ones. The temperature kept is actually really good. The atmosphere looks cool. And yet, it gets one star. Why?!? Because the owner is batshit crazy!!! He has anger issues and hates outsiders. My friend and I were flipping a coin, and our coin dropped behind the counter. Went into the bar and was rudely addressed by the older man behind the bar with glasses and a mustache. He asked for our IDs, we obliged and after noticing they were out of state he said he couldn't serve us and told us to leave the bar pointing to the door. Extremely uncomfortable. I came here with a girlfriend who wanted to watch her friend playing music on stage. The music was so loud I couldn't hear anyone or anything else. It made me feel old and unhappy so I cut out early. The owner/bartender does not give change back when paying for your bill. They only take cash so there is no option to tip on a receipt. I gave $40 even and expected change back, I didn't have enough singles to give a good tip so I took $5 out to give after receiving my change. My sister put the $5 on the counter which the owner swiftly took and never gave my change from the $40. Also, after our party finished their watered down drinks, they were never offered another one. Immediately walking in, my reaction is not good. The place is hot, had a thick smell of chemicals and overall dull vibe. Their other customers were friendly but the bartender was one strange dude. He wouldn't sell us drinks without buying hotdogs, which is fine but my fiance is vegetarian.
