I've been to Highhill Ranch for 20 years and lately I've been getting very disappointed. The young staff girls there are very rude after I ordered I asked her to add a soda to my order. She told me to get back in line and the line was very long. She wouldn't ring me up for a soda. When I went to pick up the pie the crust was raw, what a waste of money. I waited for my food for a very long time. Many people that were line behind me got their food way before me and after I waiting for 15 to 20 minutes, I asked why is it taking so long and she said because it's depending on your order, but I had a cheeseburger and fries and, some nacho chips and the girl kept whispering to the guys that were making the food. Love going here during the fall season because of the food options, beautiful scenery and small vendors! This year I came in mid-November and it was really empty (not sure if because of covid or rain that day) but it was nice not having to worry about crowds. Although not everything was open, we were still able to order some delicious pies! I have been coming here since I was a kid and out of all the little Apple Hill spots, High Hill Ranch is bar far my favorite! For one it's the largest and they have plenty of vendors for all your gift shopping needs for the holidays! Food wise they have a delicious half a chicken dinner with all the fixings, a mouth watering fudge shop, my favorite pie, the Caramel Apple Crunch Pie that puts your taste buds in heaven with all the melty caramel goodness and sugary crumbles on top mm! Yesterday I tried with my guy's suggestion their Apple Donut with Nuts and man was it good, surprisingly much better to me than other Apple Hill spots I've had! The donut has a nice bite to it with the nuts on top and the apples inside were freshly sliced and oh so flavorful! Drink wise, they stopped giving out free samples by one of the shops, but trust me their Apple Cider is delicious and made fresh, buy a gallon cuz it won't last long before you realize you drank it all! I'd highly recommend stopping by this well known spot in Apple Hill, make it a family tradition each year like we have with ours every year! read more

Came to the pie shop while visiting high hill ranch and I must say it's a bit of a rip off. Paid over $12 for a grilled cheese sandwich, a side of fries and a drink. Mind you, the grilled cheese is the size of the uncrustable sandwiches that kids take for lunch. Small portions but a big hit to your wallet. There's a whole lot at High Hill Ranch, but COVID has put a damper on some of it. We cake specifically to ride the ponies, but apparently they aren't there this year because of COVID. They still have the artists booths setup (most not present during the week), the pie shop, donuts, fritters and all the farm stand favorites, but we did not see too many activities for the family. Now we could've missed them. We looked for people to ask but couldn't find anyone who could point us in any specific direction. We did end up having some fun in the fishing pond, but beware, this is pricey. We rented the pole for $9, and the guy gave us one worm for bait. There's a big sign saying no catch and release, a fine of $100 is applied to anyone who lets a fish go, and they charge $11/lb when you bring the fish back to the register. We're pretty good at following the rules, but my 2.5yr old was immediately upset at the idea of eating the fish, which I assumed would happen, so I was a little sad turning it in knowing we weren't taking it with us. I just wanted him to have the experience of catching his first fish, and I didn't want to break the rules. The look on my son's face made it all worth it. He was very excited and really had a blast. High Hill, I'd have happily paid $20 to catch and release the fish. I hope you'll consider a different approach to the pond that allows more to enjoy these beautiful fish. read more

High Hill has so much to see and do! You can easily spend several hours with your family eating, drinking, and shopping on days where they have arts and crafts vendors on site. In October, they had hay rides and pony rides so families with younger kids had plenty to keep them occupied. There is also a big pond where fishing takes place, presumably for kids only! Even with plenty of parking, High Hill Farm was already filled with crowds of people when I arrived around 10 am. But, the lines at The Wine Shop moved quickly! I couldn't decide between two drinks I wanted so I ended up buying both for myself. No regrets! Lol. The caramel apple milkshake and apple wine spritzer were both delicious! I saw plenty of foods available for purchase: Mexican food, burgers, bbq, donuts, pies, etc. But, I didn't try any during this visit. They also offer the standards that other Apple Hill farms have: fruit, nuts, decorations, jams, preserves, syrups, recipe books. The best part about High Hill Ranch on the weekends was seeing all the different arts and crafts being sold.. too much variety to mention but I'm certain there was something for just about everyone. One artist in particular, Dennis, had really cool customized wooden art. I loved his work and bought 3 of his pieces - which looked great in my backyard for a couple of weeks leading up to Halloween. read more

Apples, apples, apples!!! I've been visiting High Hill Ranch and the general Apple Hill area for many, many years. It is one of the things I look forward to most about the fall/start of what feels like the holiday season. High Hill Ranch is one of my favorite go to places to spend the day with family and friends. They have a great picnic area that overlooks a little pond. I would encourage you to pack some snacks, lunch, or just some good eats, so that you are prepared to spend the afternoon enjoying everything that High Hill Ranch offers. Entrance and parking has changed dramatically over the years. Local authorities are now streamlining entrance for traffic control, and you are now forced to either drive several miles out of your way in order to get to the destination, or, you are strongly encouraged to park far away and take the shuttle. I would be patient and try to park as close to High Hill as you can. I understand from some of the vendors, that the shuttle can take several hours. High Hill on any given weekend has a variety of wonderful vendors from Tu-Tu. makers, candle makers, wine barrel lazy Susan vendors, and just so much more. There are even very cool cars on display that make it feel like a mini classic car show. If you have been here before and remember going to get your free sample of apple cider, they have closed off that area and they now have a knife maker there. The Apple cider is available just not at that location. Let's get real about why everybody actually comes to this location. It's the donuts. It's always the donuts. That and the amazing caramel sauce. Both are worth the effort of the calories. The Apple fritters I find to be delicious but rather heavy dough wise. I would opt to skip the fritters, and go for the cinnamon sugar donuts. It's absolutely a Homer Simpson moment. Yes, you will want all the donuts. The cake donuts are light and fluffy, and the coating of cinnamon sugar if you happen to get one while it is warm. Is like a little bite of heaven. I'm not a fan of nuts in most of my food but they do offer a doughnut with a light coating of nuts. I've tried it once before, and it's just so so for me. The caramel sauce is beyond divine. You can purchase the sauce into different sized containers. I buy one just to take home to use in my various holiday desserts. Yes, I encourage you to buy the large container because even if you don't want to utilize it the way I do, it makes an excellent topping for ice cream, dipping apples into, and having a spoonful. Come on, we have all done it. Why? Because yes, it is that good!! Fresh apples are everywhere and there are plenty of varieties to select from. You may purchase apples by the pound or larger boxes. I always buy my favorites to make baked apples with. Once you have done your shopping in the main country type store, don't forget to wander over to the little wine store. Whether or not you are interested in having a glass of apple wine, apple cider, or even grabbing a taco... Yes, they sell tacos here too! You absolutely will want to try the caramel apple shake. There's nothing else in the world that taste as amazing as this does. All I can say is that you should have your own. This is definitely not a shareable item LOL it truly is that yummy. If you've been able to grab one of the many outdoor picnic tables next to the pond, this is a great place to take the kiddos for a first time fishing experience, or having fun with the little miniature ponies. You can spread out on the table and enjoy either the treats that you brought from home, or perhaps a slice of pie from the neighboring restaurant. If a slice is not enough. Whole pies both fresh and frozen, are sold at the same place. Once tummies is her full, this is such a lovely place to walk off those calories, and visit the variety of vendors spread throughout the area. This year they have a really cool vendor where you can dip your hand in warm wax and take home the mold of your hand. While I was there a couple that had just been married a few days earlier, made a hand mold with both of them holding hands in the wax. It was very sweet. This is only one stop amongst so many amazing places for miles around. If you plan on stopping by during the workweek not everyone will be there and open. This truly is a fight the crowds weekend getaway. I would encourage you to go as early in the morning as possible. The crowds are actually fun and people generally are friendly. It's just that everyone wants to be at the same place at the same time. There are maps online that highlight some of the cool places throughout the area that often play music during the weekends, barbecue joints, and certainly plenty of pumpkins and apples everywhere. One stop shop for all your Apple Hill needs! This was our first time visiting in years as every year the line is wrapped around the Street onto the freeway. Due to Covid the crowds were smaller which was perfect. We enjoyed Caramel apples, apple pie and fudge. Bought a couple of pies for the holidays and went shopping at all the vendor areas. Sadly I need to update my review to reflect my thoughts now that we are in a pandemic. While this use to be my favorite place to visit when coming to Apple Hill it is now the worst spot to visit if you are worried about your safety. The parking attendants while outside but close to guests do not wear their masks. The craft vendors scattered around the property do not wear their masks and the people walking around also do not wear masks. It is extremely difficult to keep any distance from anyone here. We came here for the bakery and cider so we got in line. There are marks on the ground to keep 6 ft but no one follows that and again they are not wearing masks. The employees themselves yes are wearing masks but they do not require their patrons to wear masks. Might as well not wear masks if you don't require guests to. The cider was amazing as usual. They have new apple donut flavors we loved but the apple fritter was not good like in the past and at $5 and some change that is very sad. We ran in and ran out because it was just too much to even somewhat enjoy our time here. read more

Being billed as the most popular ranch/orchard in Apple Hill, one could not help miss an opportunity to visit while in the area. 1. Yes, there is parking.....though it seems "challenging. There is paved parking, while other parking areas are amongst the trees. We parked near the orchard (via a dirt path/road). 2. Yes, there are lots of family friendly activities: play area, fishing pond, souvenir shop, craft shop, cafe/snack bar, and the chance to buy all the local products grown and produced on the ranch. 3. Yes, High Hill Ranch definitely lives up to its name as the most popular ranch in Apple Hill as there were many, many visitors/tourists present on the day we visited. Although we didn't have anything to eat at the snack bar/cafe, my cousins purchased some t-shirts and souvenirs for their kids. However, I'm not much of a wine and cider drinker so I suggest going for the beer!! Very disappointed in this place. Went here last year in 2019 and had a blast so came back in 2020 just to experience racism. Disappointing. First my boyfriend and i ordered hard ciders, another couple behind us in line did too but the guy served them before us. Then gave us cider with a bug in it and got annoyed with us when we asked for another. We are very chill people but having had both worked in the food industry, we won't take food or drinks with bugs in them. The guy was really rude and gave us attitude the whole time he served us but gave smiles to all the other non-colored people there. Gross and disgusting. Omg what a disappointment. My 92 yr old mother took a field trip with her assisted living group to High Hill Ranch yesterday, which they do every year. My mother, who uses a walker, stood in a long line to buy two apple pies, balanced them on her walker and brought them back for us We were so excited to try them and they were quite large. Cutting into the pie, noticed that it looked almost uncooked, with the apples almost crunchy. The crust was just slightly baked, very thin and there was no bottom crust. Mind you, I love pie crust so it was disappointing to see how this crust appeared. Still, we went ahead and tasted it... BAD MOVE. Absolutely zero taste, apples were both mushy and uncooked. Zero liquid filling so just a pile of dry mealy apples with a tasteless thin "crust" on top. I've never seen a pie that looked more just thrown together with utter disregard. Shameful that my elderly mother had to stand in a long line for this atrocity much less fork out money for it. That pretty much soured us from ever doing the Apple Hill thing again. read more

It is dirty and over priced. The best part (sarcasm) was when we walked under the pie restaurant where they sell crafts and exited. As we exited we were next to another couple with a baby stroller. All of us were soaked with water coming down from the deck above. Mystery water. We had just got there and purchased a couple caramel apples which were also soaked in the water. We walked around and a worker had washed down the deck with dirty sink water. Glad I'm wearing it. All over my right side. Soaked. We approached the workers inside and wanted to speak to a manager. We were sent a very unkept kitchen worker who said the man who dumped the water was disabled. Then the man who dumped the water approached us. Guess what. Not disabled. At all. He told us we were the only making a scene (mind you we and the family with stroller were the only ones soaked, they were also complaining). Really my only complaint is how run down the kids area is. The wooden play buildings are full of cobwebs and they could really use a fresh paint job. For years we have been coming here mainly because there is so much to do for the kids... but I don't think we will be coming back. All the employees are rude, barely smile at you. I don't know if they all work under one big umbrella but holy heck would it kill to smile!! One tip jar said 'tips make us happy!' Well if you'd smile and asked how my day was going I would tip you! Also, do not get pie from the 'restaurant' that is there. It was flavorless and the crust was barely cooked.. Was heading to Tahoe for a cabin trip for Thanksgiving break. This is one of the closest Ranches off the highway. Beautiful here during the Fall. They have there own fishing pond, (don't forget to buy a permit) They have a pie house and a small market. The small market is where they sell the apple cider and all the baked goods like donuts and apple crumbles. Get the pies at the pie house. You can park in the tree orchards or hope to get lucky in the paved areas. The food here was amazing. I wasn't a big fan of apple anything. But after eating there apple pie I think I found a new place to buy pie for the holidays. We bought some and ate it in the cabin then on the way back home we bought a lot of pie for the up coming holidays. When buying the whole pies you will get them either refrigerated or frozen. You are able to buy warm pie too but by the slice. I read that it should be thawed at least for 4 hours before baking. I also asked how long the pies are good for if frozen. I was told Frozen pies are good for 6 months!!! I bought 3 more pies. for Holiday parties coming up and maybe my friends birthday in Febuary. My favorite is the Caramel Crunch and the Dutch apple. The apples were very fresh and refreshing. Highly recommend getting the apple cider as well. read more

Honestly I intend to go back. It's a tradition. Lots of shops and activities for families to do like pond fishing, face painting, pony rides, food, hay rides, photo ops etc. High Hill Ranch is like the 'first amongst equals' in the Apple Hill association. Parking is so so, you just have to get there before everyone else. What I do not like is the donut shop. I asked specifically for a hot donut, in other words out of the fryer. I was told oh yes of course and they took my money and handed me a donut off the rack. It was very apparent that this donut was 5-6 hours old and had been left out in the open and was now stale. People want hot donuts and at the very least kept in a container or breadbox so they don't taste stale as quickly. It was apparent that quantity was more important than quality and it was a shame. If you are going to charge more than a donut shop for donuts, at the very least let us have hot donuts. The Apple chunks were great in the recipe but everything else was blah. Also food safety wise, no food should just be sitting out in the open on racks for hours. Someone may get sick. read more

High Hill is easily one of the best ranches you will find in Apple Hill! There are so many options for Apple inspired sweets, proper food for lunch or dinner and shopping. They sell pies by the whole or slice to enjoy on site, after which you can rinse it down with some apple cider or juice. If you fancy a cocktail could always try one of their hard ciders, beers, wine or even champagne! Plenty of space for the kids to run and tables for the family to picnic on tasty local snacks makes for High Hill the place to be! read more

This is always my first and sometimes only stop driving through Apple Hill. On the weekends you can find tons of local vendors each selling unique items from homemade soap and candles to personalized wooden sings. Children can run around their fishing pond and roll down the grassy hills as pets watch in total envy, as dogs must be on a leash. Adults can pick up an apple beer and try their luck at fishing (rentals provided.) FOOD! FOOD! FOOD! There are so many choices on any given weekend. You can grab Mexican Food, BBQ: Burgers, Hot Dogs and even a whole chicken I've seen some people devouring. Of course you can also pick up the usual staples to take home like apples, kernel, apple fritters and entire candy store to choose from. Ps. You wont find epic pies here, but half a mile down the road is another magical place. Also like any other destination place prices can be a bit higher than the norm. read more

Visited for the first time on Veteran's Day. Weather was perfect and the craft shops were cute. Parking wasn't so bad around 9 am but I saw at noon, traffic was slower than a line of ants marching. My darling and I wanted a cider shake but Pie House said they're not serving it at the moment, and directed us to Apple Barn. Went to Apple Barn and they said they don't serve it and pointed me towards Pie House. Staff here really avoid making cider shakes and loathe people who want to order it (or they loathe all visitors). Sorry for the workers. The lines everywhere were long af. Most people here packed into restaurants and have no regard for social distancing. We found a random Filipino food truck near the Fudge Factory, and thankfully the line wasn't long. Have been going to High Hill for over 40 years. Their caramel apples were the best - sweet/tart crunchy apple coated in a thick delicious homemade caramel sauce. Their pies were also good. Not so much now. Sadly, it's not the same place it was for years. This year was the first time I've been after Thanksgiving when everything goes into Xmas mode. And only the second time since COVID ruined everything for everyone. Due to a salmonella outbreak a few years back there's no more free cider samples. Prices like everywhere else have gone up and quality gone down. The pie. Like someone else mentioned the pie (traditional apple in my case) was a soggy tasteless mess. Got a to-go slice that was thrown upside down into a plastic container. No bottom crust and the top crust was underbaked and soggy. Never again. I can't comment on how this years caramel apple was because I left it in a friend's car. But my initial observation was the caramel didn't look the same as it used to do my guess is that has changed too. Will try again next fall and that will be the make or break. read more

A very nice selection of Apple related and other products to choose from. A nice stop along Apple Hill

We've been visiting apple hill for years. High Hill is always our first stop. It was a mess. Not enough restrooms for the crowd size and the outhouses were beyond disgusting. The food is overpriced but we never cared because it was a fun fall family event. Today wasn't good The line for fritters and apple cider donuts was ridiculously long. Something majorly changed in this operation. We skipped on donuts and fritters. We wasted so much time in lines for food and bathrooms that we didn't stop at any other Apple location. We will probably try it again next year. read more
