Had two experiences with Dustin, one positive and one negative. The positive experience was two years ago when I wanted to add four height/ceiling speakers to my existing living room home theater for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. This was always going to be a challenging project, due to the vaulted ceiling and other factors. A couple of other companies I contacted just flat out said that it wasn't possible. Another gave me a sky high quote. Dustin however came up with a great way to do everything I wanted, and was able to accomplish it for a reasonable price. Everything is still working great today, and I couldn't have been happier. Last month though, I wanted to do a similar but significantly less challenging project in my master bedroom upstairs. We exchanged half a dozen e-mails and had everything nailed down including a date to do it. I got another e-mail asking if I was available for an earlier Saturday date, which I was not due to an out of town trip. Then after that there was... absolutely nothing. They did not come out on the originally scheduled date, did not answer a single phone call, did not respond to any voicemails, and did not respond to any e-mails. I finally had to start the whole process over from scratch with a different company, because Dustin just mysteriously disappeared. Dustin was a consummate professional. I was looking for a company that would do the full installation for me including dealing with getting the correct Mount and a nkce shelf for me to put the cable box, PS4, etc. on. I checked with about 12 different companies and Dustin gave me the absolute best price and was also able to get me scheduled on the date requested where as most other companies could not accommodate this. I contacted all of the companies through email and he was one of the only ones that dealt with me through email and text message where as almost every other company I contacted wanted me to call them to discuss what I needed which was far less convenient for me. After all, had I wanted to call them, I would have done that in the first place rather than sending emails Dustin was on time, did a great job, and cleaned up after himself. When he first came, it turned out that the mount he brought had the wrong bolt pattern since my TV is a bit older model. He did all of the other work on that first day, and then came back again the next day with the correct Mount. forgot to post this when i was living in austin, hoping dustin expands to houston: I called Colin @ Hifi after being pretty frustrated trying to buy a TV at the big box stores. I was ready to pull the trigger on a TV for about $1700 and have it mounted. Colin asked me to give him a few hours to do some research. He called me back later that afternoon and had found a similar TV for $1000, at another store. They saved me $700 and didn't make a dime off of it. Who does that? That same week Dustin came out and got that TV mounted over my fireplace. I told him that I had always wanted in ceiling speaker for surround sound. He bowled me over with enthusiasm. We talked about a couple tiers of speakers but settled on some really affordable ones. I wanted to do the patio as well but couldn't get it all done at once. I contacted HiFi Install to help out with a few projects that I wanted to get done as soon as we moved into our new house. I needed wiring done for my media room, network cable termination in 4 rooms, 5 TVs mounted, 3 security cameras mounted with CAT5e run to each location, and a projector/screen mounted in the media room. I also had the need for a universal remote system to control multiple components from one remote. Dustin came out and surveyed the house and the work to be done, and had a quote back to me within 48 hours. All I can say is top notch! I first hired Dustin in Houston last year to install my 47" LG LCD TV. He was: on time, pleasant, funny, did a great job of installing my TV and making it look kick ass in my condo. I told him I was from Austin and he should move there as it's THE place to be in Texas. A year later - I moved back home to Austin and found a great little cottage in SoCo and decided to get my new 50" Panasonic plasma mounted. TLDR: My highest possible recommend - I would (and am) recommending Dustin to friends and colleagues as an ideal option for the work he does. We just moved houses, and I found Yelp very helpful in identifying professionals to help with a variety of tasks, so I want to pay it forward by leaving some reviews around people I work with. My first priority was getting something up about the work Dustin and Hifi Install did at our house. We moved from a home that had already had surround sound installed when we moved in, so we knew we wanted something but didn't have a great idea of what. We were also open to some smart house add-ons, if they were reasonably priced. Bidding process: I asked a few of the different best-rated companies in town for bids. Dustin was the quickest to respond, and easiest to schedule. He was patient walking through the house and talking through different ideas. His initial bid was very thorough, and gave me exactly an idea of what he was doing and where the costs would be. Despite offering more in his package than any other company (and offering equal or better quality equipment), he was the most affordable by a CONSIDERABLE margin. Planning: Because I didn't have a great idea of exactly what I wanted, I went through several iterations on the bid/planning with Dustin. He was 100% upfront about what he was recommending, why he recommended it, and the impact it would have on the price. He had opinions about what to use - near as I could tell, those opinions were driven by (and consistent with) impartial reviews of quality as much as his own motivations. He was completely open to me pulling alternatives, talking through strengths and weaknesses, and using those instead. For someone without a strong background but with a strong urge to try to understand/compare options (probably a strong component of the Yelp demographic) I thought this stage was both critical in my feeling comfortable with the work and truly distinctive. Execution: Amazing. Dustin was in and out in one day. He installed smart locks on every door, ring security system, and surround sound in most of the house. He did so with a minimum of mess, and gave us a thorough walk-through of how everything worked. One lock was sticking (it was before he installed the smart system) so he came back out on a different day to fix the door (not even his work) to make it run smoothly. He was professional, friendly, and attentive to detail. And, overall, everything looks way better than we'd even imagined. Our old house had fixed speakers attached to the ceiling - he embedded them all and they look and sound incredible. He even threw an extra speaker in because he decided the master bedroom was bigger and would benefit from a second speaker he hadn't priced into the bid. I work in customer service, so I'm super picky about what great customer service looks like. I spend way too much time on CNET, so I'm super picky about gadgets and think I know way more than I do. In short, I am the very model of a difficult customer for the kind of work Dustin does. And I was blown away at every stage of the process. If you are looking for an honest dealer who will be a partner to you in helping do all that cool stuff to your house you wanted to do, even if you didn't know you wanted to do it yet, I cannot recommend Dustin enough. read more

I called Dustin yesterday to set up a time to do a quick flatscreen TV removal and install in a new spot. He was super friendly on the phone and was happy to set a time next week that worked for me. He also said he would keep an eye out if he could get to me faster since I was on a time crunch. I work at a school and the year is starting so soon. It got even better when he was able to come early and offered a slot for me today! He got here ready to go, all I had to do was show what I wanted moved and where to install. He had another team helper to get the TV set and in less that 40 minutes, the job was done. The rooms were both cleaned and left ready to work in. Did I mention that his phone manner is awesome! When he called to say he could come early, he said it was around lunch time and was flexible. He even offered a sandwich. I mean, I didn't take him up on it, but I almost did. Hifi Installation was awesome. We filled out the online interest form and Dustin was emailing me within 24 hours to set up a time to check out the house and write an estimate. From initial email to installing was less than a week. Dustin was honest about what he would need to (go behind walls, remove small pieces of drywall, etc) as we talked options. The install exceeded our expectations: the 70" Sharp Aquos 3D 240Hz looks badass on the wall above the fireplace, the two front in-walls, soundbar, two rear in-ceiling, and 10" sub sound freakin fantastic. Dustin also had a working knowledge of things I'll never understand, like how to make two cable outlets on either side of the living room exchange sources from Dish Network to our cable modem provider. Even encountering other bumps in the road along the install (our prior homeowners were DIY clowns and left a lot of half-ass issues to clean up), Dustin confidently took care of everything and stayed true to his estimate, completing the work over the course of two afternoons. Oh, he also installed very nice sound in the kitchen, as requested, and showed us how to link up our music library to our iphones and itunes and whatnot. When searching for a company to set up a home theater and to mount some other TVs on the walls, I looked on Yelp and came across HiFi Installation. I am so thrilled that I decided to call them! Dustin came out to my house, walked me through some potential home theater options, and opened my eyes to all of the amazing things they could do. I was so happy when I saw that the horrid mess of cables that had been visible were now snaked behind the wall when I got home from work. He had been given rave reviews on this site so when I heard how quickly and professionally he worked, I was so satisfied! We had friends coming for a big game and were excited to show off the cleans lines. This was Thursday. Then Friday happened where we had no signal, no sound, nothing. No xbox, no iPod, no tv sound. No signal! Never had a previous issue before, just odd. We contacted the cable company, and trouble shot the system with them. There was no problem on their end so we called HIfi Install sat am. The speakers were out and no signal was received for music. Got a call back from Colin who was very nice. Dustin came to the house on Sunday as per our request and offer to pay him for his time ( the game was that night and company was in town). On his arrival, he did not speak, was not cordial, and was clearly unhappy. His attitude made both us, and our guests uncomfortable. He separated our units on an additional shelf where they weren't stacked on one another, rebooted the system, (not sure what all exactly) fixed some issue with the subwoofer that hadn't been an issue before his previous visit, and we were back in business. He gathered his things, and without a word walked out the front door to his car where he was obviously upset, and took off down the street. I was wholly surprised by his attitude. I expected for the owner of the company to be more professional. Payment was offered for coming on Sunday and he was here correcting his work. I am very unhappy and will not be using his company in the future. Sadly, I was going to do future business with him that would have amounted to a pretty penny. His attitude cost *his* company future business from myself as well as friends-word of mouth is a powerful thing. read more

My initial budget had to drastically decrease, which means I had to have Dustin make some adjustments to the equipment. I had just moved into new construction and need Dustin to mount two TVs for me (a 70" and a 75" above a new fireplace), as well as to add surround sound to my living area. I have to say - that even though my final budget was significantly lower then where I initially started, Dustin really was great at finding me quality equipment that would get me the bang for my buck. How many of you have run into this problem - you want to buy a new TV, but you cannot choose a screen size until you figure out where you can physically mount it? My wife and I ran into the same problem - we wanted a flat screen TV for our new home, but we weren't sure if we could mount it above the fireplace (i.e. bigger TV), mount it in a corner (i.e. smaller TV so the window wouldn't be blocked), or whether we should just skip mounting it all-together. Enter Hifi Installation. We contacted Dustin @ HiFi back in September, and he told us to send over pictures and he would help us out - even though we didn't plan on buying the TV for another few months. After looking at the pictures, he felt mounting above the fireplace could work but it might be difficult to hide the wires within the walls. So, he volunteered to give us a free in-person estimate and, when he arrived, he gave us great advice that helped us make our decision (which was to go with the bigger TV above the fireplace). I could stop here and give HiFi 5 stars for great service (before we were even customers). Fast-forward 3 months - we bought our TV (in time for the holidays) and called up HiFi to do the install. Based on our previous conversations with Dustin, we planned to hide the wires in a raceway vs. the more expensive option of drilling into the drywall above the fireplace to get past the numerous vertical studs in the wall. The technician showed up on the scheduled day and went to work immediately. Once the TV was mounted and it was time to do the raceway, we discovered we'd need a rather large raceway (5 inches wide) to hide the # of wires we wanted to run from the TV down to the corner of the room. We ultimately decided to go with the more expensive option of hiding the wires within the wall. Dustin gave us an estimate of the extra cost to hide the wires within the wall, and he also put us in touch with a contractor who gave us an estimate on patching drywall. A few days later, the wires were hidden, the walls were patched, and we were two happy campers. I did have one issue that I'll point out, just to give a balanced review. The original project quote (to mount the TV) to my knowledge included the cost of the HDMI and power cables. I also thought it included the raceway based on our conversation in September, but I could have been mistaken. When we asked about the extra cost to hide the wires within the walls to help us make our decision, we were told "around $100 more" (not including the contractor's fee). It turns out that was just for labor, and the final project cost us the original project quote, plus $100 for extra labor, plus full payment for "extra long" HDMI and power cables, plus around $35 for overnight shipping. In the end, the final price was still fair (based on a similar mounting job I had done when I lived in California). Dustin also provided a detailed estimate before doing the work, which gave us the opportunity to change our minds if we wanted. So I still feel Hifi deserves all 5 stars. So in summary - I highly recommend Hifi Installation both for their exceptional customer service and for the quality of their work. read more

It feels a bit redundant to repeat what's already been said but the outstanding service and quality of work merits the redundancy. Dustin initially installed a turnkey theatre system that consisted of a projector,100 in screen, Denon receiver and the best sound I've ever heard anywhere, including movie theaters. Due to the fact that we've been working with a designer(Adentro Designs who also rocks) we've forced Dustin back three different times since to install and uninstall the equipment while the cabinet maker worked on the custom cabinet he fitted the room with. Dustin is not only extremely knowledgable but been very generous with his time and now that it's all set up the room truly is a dream come true. The system is set up to play everything from sporting events from your satellite to 3-D movies, which I must admit is pretty damn awesome. Everything runs off a universal remote and once set up (by Hi-Fi) is as easy as working your average tv remote. Thanks for the great work.
