    California omlette
    Tsz-Cheong C.

This little small diner in Hicksville provided a cozy atmosphere with a friendly staff. Don't let the size of this place fool you. It may be small in terms of interior space, but makes up for it in sheer deliciousness. The menu features classic diner comfort food, and the portions were generous. The decor is simple and retrospective of the early 80's, but the charm of the place lies in its authenticity and taste. I had the Lumberjack breakfast with Challah French toast, sausage and eggs. My wife ordered the California omlette with home fries and toast. The items were cooked perfectly, the omlette and French toast was moist and flavorful. The coffee was pretty darn good as well. The service was prompt, and our overall experience was a delightful one. We look forward to coming back again soon. NOTE: Small parking lot. There is a dead-end street behind the diner with some spaces. They also have 3 bathrooms; one is dedicated for handicapped people with wheelchairs.

Old time diner. Comfortable seating, friendly, timely service and delicious food. Clean space, clean, small bathrooms. Plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible. But Fox News and political talk all day long. I don't care who you believe; just don't have the box preaching to me while I pay to eat. I hear enough of it on the outside.

Been here a few times for omelettes before I knew about the Ikea breakfast specials. Omelettes were light and fluffy. Hash was overpowered by onion. Always quick and friendly service. Not as art deco glam as other diners but still cozy. I haven't been there when their small parking lot was filled though.

French Toast Deluxe w/ Sausage & Eggs over EZ

Though a little out of the way, but still at the corner of main thoroughfares Old Country Rd and South Oyster Bay Rd, the Hicksville Diner is a beacon among all the other Long Island Diners and serving up really good diner eats. If you want a BIG American breakfast, you can't do much better. The layout is typical with shiny chrome exterior with a wraparound parking lot. You walk in to find counter seating and booth tables. We slide into our booth and go through the substantial menu, but we know we're here for the breakfast. I wanted the Deuces Wild, which is 2 of everything: 2x eggs + 2x bacon + 2x sausage + 2x ham + 2x pancakes + home fries = 1 Happy me. I could have used 2x toast to sop up the runny yolks of my sunnyside up eggs, but that will be for next time. My wife had the French Toast Deluxe with 4x BiG slices of egg dipped Challah bread toasted on the flat top grill, along with 2x sausage + 2x eggs over EZ. And amazingly, it all disappeared. Mmmm...BurP Now that I'm writing this review, I'm getting a hankering for a bacon cheeseburger...

Close up of the: Cream Filled French Toast with Nutella and Banana

About half of the size of the Broadway Diner but 10x better! The ambiance and food were wonderful. Everything was brighter, cleaner, and fresher. Went on a Saturday afternoon for brunch with my bestie. It was getting busy around that time too. The booths were comfy. Plenty of bar seats if that's your fancy! The restroom was nice and clean. She ordered the Roast Beef au Jus Sandwich. I had the Eggs Benedict with Feta and Spinach. And we shared a third plate of the Cream Filled French Toast with Nutella and Banana. The feta and spinach were too salty. Would have been better plain/without. My hash browns were served cold....as if they had been ready made a while ago and served without warming up, at the very least. I didn't mind it that day, but everyone loves fresh out of the skillet/grill/pan/etc. hash browns! I removed a star for that and slow water refills. Next time I'll just get the French Toast. That really hit the spot. My bestie loved her dish. Said I should get it next time. We'll see. Happy eats!

This is the highest rated diner near me so I had to try it! I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. The good - coffee was strong but not too bitter; the pancakes were fluffy; eggs were cooked exactly how I asked; Canadian bacon/ham was a good size. The bad - sausages were those skinny little ones with very little flavor, the bacon was not crispy and also skinny and little; and even though the home fries had peppers and I think onions (could be wrong) they were not very flavorful. My friend had egg white omelette and enjoyed them although I had a bite, and I thought they were lacking some seasoning. The place is not big but we were seated right away but it was a Wednesday. May be an issue on weekend. Service was very good with coffee refills aplenty, so I rounded up to 4 stars. Just do t come here expecting to be blown away...

    The Rancheros Omelette

I just visited this diner last night with my boyfriend because we were craving breakfast for dinner. We both ordered omelettes which came with home fries and your choice of toast. He got the Rancheros Omelette which came with peppers, onions, jalapeños and sausage. I ordered the Cobb Omelette which came with diced avocado, bacon pieces, and cheddar cheese. The omelettes were very good and flavorful but my only complaint was that the omelette itself was a little greasy. Otherwise everything else was very good!

Not too crowd, have plenty of food for your order. On the higher side of costs for a diner, but IMHO, worth the extra cost!

A really intimate place, with probably like 15 tables max inside, and a little bar that can sit also about the same amount of people, but still looks new and fresh, and also be on the lookout because when you're driving the place sneaks up on you. The friendliest service, Lauren who seated us and served us was truly genuine, and I told her I really appreciate that as most restaurants don't have that sense of personal customer service, actually noticeable and appreciated. The food was also really good, the dip was flavorful, could be a little warmer but still very good, the chips were next level, and this was a huge hit. The calamari was lightly breaded, and also I do appreciate the two sauces to choose from when dipping, either Kung Pao or Marinara. I got the Pastrami Rub Tuna over Scallion Mash, and when I first looked at it I thought the fish piece was a bit small, but after eating it, it was the perfect size, and the mash was delicious, and the Wasabi Sauce to dip the fish really made the dish Pop. Drinks were okay, started with a kick and boozy but finished a bit watery for my first one, the second one I had with Mescal was a 10/10 though. This place needs attention, and the fact that it is still pretty low key and food influencers haven't descended to blow up it's spot is awesome.

They use illy coffee. Now, the portion sizes of our meals were massive! The breakfast dishes came with a side of home fries and the short rib grilled cheese came with sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious and we all left satisfied and had to pack our leftovers. I was a bit disappointed with the short rib Benedict because I had the California Benedict on my first visit. Because of how good the California Benedict was, my expectations were high. If you're a meat lover, I would say give it a try but I highly recommend the California Benedict! I will say this restaurant is very clean and I was told that it can be crowded during the weekends. I would make reservations online. There isn't a lot of seating in this restaurant but I think it's definitely worth waiting if you're coming here for a weekend brunch! There's parking in the back & on the street. Arriving, the space is bright and airy. At the table there was a lovely potted plant with our reservation name which we were able to take home with us. Such a nice touch. The trivia was really fun and something different to do. We started off with the maple bacon donut holes for the table. They came out piping hot and had the perfect donut texture. They were so good. They have a lot of cocktails and cocktails to choose from. I opted for the Spritz which was a light Aperol Spritz and it was perfect for brunch. The Paloma was also quite good. I had the Tap Stack which was pancakes layered with bacon and topped with a corn flake crusted chicken cutlet. The portion was large and hearty. The chicken was so crunchy and yummy. The bacon was perfectly cooked. The pancakes were a bit on the tough and dry side. The breakfast burrito, BEC and brunch burger were all good and everyone enjoyed their meals.
