I haven't been here in about a year. All of my experiences here have been wonderful. Today changed it all. Immediately walking in, there's an overpowering acidic smell. Almost like baby food. Not good. The air conditioning is not turned on despite the hot weather. The table next to us was obnoxious: cursing loudly the entire time, talking about in appropriate things and completely uncourteous to everyone else in the restaurant. Staff didn't address them at all. Then our server left our table several times when we were mid-sentence. For example, she comes by to ask if we want a drink after we've been sitting several minutes. We said we're ready to order but we had a question. She interrupted us & told us she'll be right back. She answered the phone, picked up a table of trash next to us, delivered food to two other tables and then decided it was time to acknowledge us again. She also didn't wash her hands after cleaning the dirty table. I'm sorry but the ambience, environment and service are make or break for me when it comes to a dining experience. I'm definitely not planning on eating in here again. That table next to us was the worst because it was never addressed & one table shouldn't throw off anyone else's experience for eating. 3 stars because the server was friendly and the food was great. read more

The sushi is just incredible, this small family owned sushi bar is amazing! We are treated so warmly by the staff and are always pleased with the quality of the sushi. The dinner special is 3 rolls and an appetizer, can't beat it! From the chefs specials, idk soup, crispy rice with spicy tuna... everything is great. Definitely a must try. read more

The interior of the restaurant is always clean and great for dinner with the family or friends. There is no music or anything playing just one tv behind the counter. Hi Sushi is always great!! As you walk in they always greet you with a smile and a friendly Hello! They make you feel special immediately. It's a small restaurant but I've never had to wait long for a table. The service is over the top amazing!! They have great specials! I always get the dinner special. 3 rolls and an appetizer for $37.95!! What a bargain! And the food is Amazing!!! Today we got 3 rolls, gyoza and popcorn shrimp. As always, it was amazing! We came in for a quick bite with only about 45 minutes to spare, and they definitely delivered. We didn't order anything too crazy--just a couple Philadelphia rolls, California rolls, a Hot Mess, edamame, and a couple of drinks--but everything came out fast and tasted very good. Since we stuck with simpler rolls, the check was pretty reasonable too. Our server was kind, attentive, and kept things moving, which we appreciated. For our first time here, it was a solid experience. Even though we didn't try anything extravagant this time around, it made me want to come back and try their fresh fish next time. read more

We ordered some sushi items through Instacart. We expected the prices to be higher, but not THIS high! A California Roll with pieces the diameter of a quarter, was $8. Plus, they were out of something I ordered, and they didn't allow me to substitute anything else, so I had to jump through hoops to get a refund. That's just plain bad business! Also, the "fresh" cucumber salad was basically sliced pickles. Ugh! Nothing fresh about it. We ordered garlic edamame, not spicy...but it arrived so spicy we could not eat it. A teeny bit of ginger, an even tinier amount of wasabi, and 3 packets of cheap soy sauce were all we got for "extras." Forget this place! I know there really isn't any decent sushi in Bakersfield, but this really was a new low. Who could mess up a California Roll? Well, they managed. We ate at Hi Sushi today and unfortunately it was a big letdown. I spent $92 and really don't feel like it was worth it. My son got beef teriyaki with chicken fried rice & it was completely flavorless, not even on par with Panda. My sushi didn't taste fresh like it usually does, and my husband didn't enjoy his either. We all ended up with stomachaches after. The restaurant was kind of hot and dark, and the server spoke so quietly it was hard to hear her, which added to the frustration. My brother was the only one who actually liked his food. We won't be going back anytime soon..maybe it was just an off day, but still really disappointing. read more

I was by myself so I sat at the sushi bar and watched the chefs make the rolls. they came out fairly quick. My server Rebecca was friendly and professional. Do not go to this spot! The first time I got their sushi the rice was undercooked so the rice was grainy and the fish was supper fishy. So today I gave them another chance so I ordered the yellowtail and the salmon roll and I couldn't eat it. I had to spit it out. I can tell the quality of the fish isn't good because it was so fishy and the yellowtail was so mushy. Also they didn't give me say sauce, wasabi, or ginger. There's typically only one server during the day son if they are busy for lunch the service could take a minute but will still get you out on time to get back to work! I ordered a 911,dynamite and spicy snow roll on the dinner special and the sushi didn't seem to taste fresh at all. The 911 and baked muscles were mid and partially cold. Overload of sauce and cheese on the dynamite roll so the flavor was not there at all. Not worth going to if you want quality sushi. read more

This is my neighborhood sushi place. I've been eating there for years. They run a fantastic three roll and appetizer dinner special. The sushi is pretty standard. Nothing crazy, but all the normal combinations you expect. The good news is they run a lot of business, so it's always fresh. The wait staff is always friendly. This place was just okay. Nothing about it was good or special. I've had way better sushi in town. Everything tasted the same and was mushy. On top of that, the service was not good. The servers stood around doing nothing and didn't stay on top of things. My drink was empty 2/3s of the time and we had to constantly ask for things that they should have been bringing us. Plus, they didn't explain their own special right and it ended up costing us more than it should have and when we asked to have the more expensive appetizer included instead they said it was already in the system and they couldn't do that. We hadn't paid yet so it seemed more like they wanted us to pay more for the more expensive item or just flat out didn't want to do the work to change it. I won't be going back. read more

Good Food great service always! We eat there at least once a week and they accommodate my wife's gluten sensitivity. They have Gluten Free soy sauce and they will explain what rolls are gluten free or what about each roll has gluten so you can have them leave off. read more

This Japanese fusion place is our go to for sushi! 27 bucks for three rolls and an appetizer, great for a dine in for 2-3 people. Walked in, not greeted just kind of got ushered to sit down at the table, our server young skinny girl with a red tattoo on her neck was super awkward, she didn't talk and never really checked on us. She made it weird for us and food was okay, the only thing that was good was the miso broth soup. The menu was out dated and the place was kinda grimey.
