Everything Bagels w/ The Whole Lox Schmear (left) and Chili Crisp Schmear (right)
Laura G.

The bagels were delicious! Nicely crunchy on the outside, and fluffy & soft inside. The everything seasoning was a bit too salty for me. The schmears were yummy, I liked the chili crisp, which was unique. When we arrived on a Saturday afternoon, there was a line out the door, but it moved fast. They were still baking fresh bagels at this time of day. There is a small counter space to eat at, but is typically already occupied due to high traffic. We took some home to freeze and followed the reheating instructions on the paper bag, which came out almost perfectly.

Caramelized onion & gruyere bialy with spicy scallion smear. That's the order. You will thank me later. My young teen loves the everything bagel with salmon smear. We've pretty much tried it all and it's all fresh & delicious & worth standing in line. The staff always welcomes with big smiles and loads of patience and friendly recommendations. Absolutely lives up to the hype in my book.

Garlic Bagel & Whole Lox Smear

Hey Bagel is a bagel spot located in University Village in Seattle. There is lots of parking available at University Village. It could take some time navigating to find the parking though. I have been wanting to visit Hey Bagel for quite some time and finally had the time to do so since I was in the area! There was a short line out the door of Hey Bagel that moved quickly. I decided on the Garlic Bagel with the 2oz Whole Lox smear. There was limited space inside the shop to eat your bagel, but we were able to squeeze in after a few people left. I love bagels and cream cheese. The simplicity of it is what makes it so great. The bagels are freshly made and perfect to eat warm!

i appreciate warm bagels and good schmears as much as the next person but putting in a specific plug for the raspberry curry and hot honey which is so damned flavorful and unique it demands attention! i ordered a bialy, sesame and pumpernickel to go. took them home and still warm, ripped the sesame apart with steam coming from it. a dab of schmear and voila: sheer delight! i wish the bialy had poppy seeds on it but it is tasty as well. maybe i'm a bialy purist and don't need gruyère or anything beside the onions and the excellent dough? i've heard lines are predictably long on weekends but i happened to be at uvillage right before lunch and was able to just walk in and order. next time i'm there i'll go get bagel another go for different flavors but this maiden voyage didn't disappoint.

Delicious freshly baked bagels and freshly made cream cheese. I wish they have a store in Kirkland.

Good, but not the best bagel in Seattle in my opinion. Lines in the morning can be extremely long due to its popularity.

pizza bagel, salt bagel

Bagels themselves are good but with price considered, it isn't something worth coming back for - about 8.00 for pizza bagel + smoked salmon smear. My bagel just came out so it was steaming/hot, but my friend's salt bagel was cold without being offered to have it heated. Inside is small with no seating, just a stand up bar that fits 5 people.

I feel like timing is key. When we first walked by the line was super long. We went shopping then swung by again and there was barely line. There's 2 standing tables but really only was one usable as the other was blocked by the line. We got half a dozen of donuts. The stand outs we had were 2 seasonal ones which I can't quite remember the names. One was an onion jam one and the other was the cheddar with pepper. The onion jam was so good and was piping hot. You could actually see the steam coming off of it as you ate it. From the regular line up I really enjoyed the sea salt. It had such a great chew and really let their schmears shine. For the schmears, we tried the scallion, hot scallion, chili crisp, and lox. My favorite were the scallion and lox schmears. I would definitely recommend stopping by and am eager to come back again to try more of their seasonal bagels.

The best bagels in Seattle hands down! The closest you'll get to a true New York bagel..I've spent many years in NY so take it from me. Service is attentive and they thoroughly help you with the selections and their recommendations. There are some standing counters where you can eat the bagels, but no sit down area. This place is small and the lines can get long. However, the best part about this establishment is that they make bagels throughout the day until they're sold out. These bagels are not cheap but worth it if you're looking for a great bagel and schmear..$19.50 for half dozen, $35 for a baker's dozen.

I'm a harsh bagel critic and these are hands down the best bagels in Seattle and the US (yes including NY/NJ). Not only do they have the perfect crusty exterior but also an excellently fluffy and chewy interior, AND they bake hot bagels nearly all day. The owner is a master baker and the team works efficiently. Walking in there to see huge slabs of dough being worked and shaped into bagels in an open sight vibe can bring a tear to my eye. They also have bialys and sometimes limited time schmears - presently a fried shallot and chive schmear that is unbelievable. Monday is now blueberry day and Wednesday pumpernickel! At 8am open they've got full baskets of hot bagels of all kinds.

Pleasantly surprised! The bagels are amazing. Love the style of bagels they got going on here. I have review of both eating day of and eating the day after! The bagels themselves are great just by themselves but with some of the cream cheese they have it is.... scrumptious. For day old bagel my go to is cover with a wet paper towel and microwave and gotta say it worked great and the taste was basically 90% there. The store is incredibly small and so there's a lot of waiting and foot traffic. Being my first time there I was really under a lot of pressure to order! I took one star off because of the line and the pressure to order. I think I waited a good 30 minutes to order and I believe I came after peak hours.

Valerie Y.

As soon as you walk in, you're met with a heavenly aroma of fresh bagels. Hey Bagel always has fresh batches going and they have so much variety; I want to try all their schmears. This time, I got the biscoff/choco/espresso and the spicy scallion shmear. My bagels were the sea salt and the salted sesame. I loved the spicy scallion schmear. I also enjoyed the biscoff; it was more like a dessert. I did think that the sea salt bagel was too salty. I ended up scraping a lot of the salt off with a knife. My only other qualm is that I wish they pre-cut the bagels!

Megan S.

We got the everything bagel and cheddar chili bialy with the green onion and chili oil cream cheeses. Both were really good! They were both very big/thick with soft and fluffy interior and a chewy/crispy outside, and still warm! We went on a Saturday morning and there was a bit of a line, but it moves quickly. We probably got our bagel in less than 20 min. Note that there's no seating but there are a couple tables in the surrounding outdoor area.

I got the garlic bagel and the garlic on the bagel was very burnt and made it inedible. The scallion cream cheese was amazing though.

They are coming up on their first decade next summer. The cafe decor also held up pretty well, including the large glass fixture from the ceiling. Seattle Sunshine Coffee also outlived Ventoux that I had mentioned in my prior post. The barista and I compared my 2016 stamp card to the current design, just had a few slight different nuances. This indie cafe had folks onsite, but not packed. There was still room available whether seated along the sidewalk, main seating area, or the upstairs mezzanine. Some convos to be had, but most of the cafe clientele were on their laptops or reading. Pastry case was well stocked with the wholesale variety from Macrina, plus the usual bevs and cafe fare. I enjoyed my near two hour onsite visit. The only thing I wished is that I had brought a hoodie. The AC was jacked up. and of course, I had savored an iced mocha. Hopefully my next cafe detour won't take nine years though between visits.

They have so much outdoor seating, on both sides of the cafe, which I really like. Way more than downtown. Food came out super quick too. My go to order has always been the Mr Breakfast plate, it's super hearty and full of great breakfast foods. However, the price has increased exponentially and quality has definitely gone down. I used to pay around $15 for this plate and it included bacon and now it's $17 + an extra $4 to add 2 pieces of bacon. (The bacon is totally worth it though). The potatoes recipe need to be completely refined, or they need to offer a substitution option for them. They are overly soft and they don't have nearly enough seasoning. That was the only thing that remained on my plate when I was done! and the soft boiled egg tasted a little off to me, like it had been sitting for a bit long. Other than that, the Turkish eggs and chopped chicken salad were very fresh and good. Staff were super nice when ordering at the counter, coffees and pastries were good as well. Overall I will come back here, just would like to see some quality changes with the Mr Breakfast as it used to be very good.

It's located in the same spot after many decades in Seattle's Wedgwood neighborhood. Since there's several cafes along this stretch of 35th NE, as point of reference, it's two doors south of Wedgwood Broiler. It shares a huge parking lot and adjacent to a Metro bus route. It had a nice autumn hue from the overhead lighting and interior decor. The local art for sale adorning the walls was a nice added touch. Upbeat, welcoming staff. It was full right at noon and brisk walk-in takeout traffic. Nice overhead music to chill, dine, and/or do laptop stuff. They offer the usual bev menu, as well as, breakfast & lunch items, soups, salads, modest pastry case (from Alki Bakery), merch, and coffee roasts from Zoka. The 16oz mocha was well crafted temp wise & good balance of espresso, steamed milk, and chocolate. I also opted for the roast beef panini without the horseradish. Generously filled with roast beef, havarti, mayo, and red onion on savory focaccia. It was provided with au jus and I selected potato salad versus chips. The au jus was not salty, so after dipping, I also sipped the hot broth. Very flavorful and filling. The other panini half I'll have to take home. Thanks to fellow Yelp Elite All Star, Will L for a compelling post. This was a pleasant detour for lunch.

All the pastries except for the regular butter croissant were available, and we were able to place an order for the kimchi focaccia and sakura swiss roll, which were slated to come out around 10am. Service was super friendly! I got the hojicha latte, the okonomiyaki frittata, black sesame cookie, kimchi focaccia, and sakura swiss roll. The hojicha latte was rich and earthy in the best way, and it went really well with the black sesame cookie, which had a great strong sesame flavor, and the texture was perfectly chewy! The focaccia was pillowy and chewy at the same - I could've eaten five of these on their own. The frittata was my least favorite item, but by no means am I saying that it's bad! I thought the sauces overpowered it a bit, and the frittata itself was a bit bland - I couldn't even tell it had sweet potato in it, but it was cooked really well. There was ample seating in the heated patio, but parking was a little confusing, though we got lucky with the small lot right next to the store. I don't know if they rotate their pastries or if they just sold out of everything but only items on display case were the chocolate cookie, sesame cookie, the sakura chiffon roll, savory focaccia, apple cake and maybe one other item. I really was looking forward to trying a cardamom croissant or bun but they didn't have either available. My iced latte was alright. Nothing to go crazy over. The cherry foam for an additional $2.00 was very pretty but that's where it stopped at. Absolutely no cherry or sakura flavor. Disappointed. The sesame cookie had a great smell to it. The aroma of sesame was strong. The cookie had a nice crisp to the edge and a chewy center. The sesame taste wasn't as strong as the smell. The spicy chicken sandwich on special was not spicy at all. It was overwhelmingly sweet from the orange glaze/sauce on the kitchen. It was a decent sandwich and I definitely finished it. Just not something I would gravitate back to. I understand the reviews about how this place doesn't live up to some extra hype. It's decent, solid and a great option for the area but to go out of your way for and wait thirty minutes in line? Not really.

She provided great recommendations for drinks and food; and phenomenal service too. We were seated at the bar tables, which was comfortable! There's a cushioned banquette and chairs, and you have a view of the bar. To drink, my parents had their essentials wine flight. It's 3 wines: One sparkling white, one rose, and one lighter red. All of them were delicious! The favorite was the sparkling white. I had a non-alcoholic rose that was perfectly bubbly and fruity without being too sweet. To eat, we started with a half dozen oysters. They were on the briny and salty side, which we like! The mignonette served along was yummy too. We then had the following entrees: Croque Monsieur with a sunny egg, Lobster Benedict (special), and the quiche Lorraine. The Croque sandwich was decadent and the side salad was a great complement to it. I had to remind them about the egg, but it was brought out promptly. The lobster Benedict was rich and luxurious, and the potatoes paired nicely. The quiche Lorraine was custardy (as advertised) and had a nice balance of bacon and other flavors. We ended our meal with dessert and coffee. We enjoyed the pistachio Mille Feuille and the Opera cake. The Mille feuille was recommended by Maddie and I see why! It's creamy, flavorful, crunchy--such a unique dessert! The opera cake is perfect for chocolate lovers. The coffee was delicious and piping hot. You can even get it to go! The wine flights were served in pretty glasses that were all brought out at once. Our server told us nothing about the wine. We didn't even know what the red was- the menu said "Blend" but had 0 info. It was super strange to us to be drinking wines that we had absolutely no info on at all. I didn't even need tasting notes, I just wanted to know what grapes were in the wine, which feels like bare minimum. I would recommend they print these in the future for people to reference if their servers aren't going to learn about the wine. The indoor space is beautiful. They had two rooms on the side that looked more geared to wine and were much cuter, but they didn't seat anyone here.
