Hands down the best steak in the county. Love the atmosphere (county casual). Never had a bad meal. Herb's seasoning is the bomb.

We went here because we heard the steaks were great, that I can agree on, I had the 8 oz filet mignon which was perfectly cooked... I also had the Ceasar salad which also was very good and a nice portion..... here's what I did not like: the meal is served with garlic bread which was that fat sliced white bread that is usually made into french toast... I love a baked potato with a good steak, but it is served with greasy home fries and overcooked zucchini. Like I said, at least the steak was good, but I would never go back and have steak again unless they make some big changes in the sides. I did not feel like it was a good deal. The service was very good, but they try to take the plates away too quickly, let me finish chewing my food before you take my plate please. The other thing I did not like: the plates.... they are those baked enamel like you take on camping trips and they are old and chipped.... please serve my steak on a white dinner plate! It's kind of dark in there too, there's a little candle on the table that the server never lit. The only reason I would go back would be to try the bar menu and some German food, but I will probably just go to the one in Bellingham if I feel the urge. read more

The place is outdated. It needs a good cleaning. The staff was nice, but for the price not overly friendly or accommodating. The Spanish garlic prawns are awesome!! They need to serve it with more bread! The salad was soggy. Creme brûlée was frozen in the middle. read more

I love Herb's. The bar menu is a great deal. The food is always amazing. How busy this restaurant is every night speaks volumes to how popular it is. The only thing stopping this from being a 5 star review is that my bartender didn't know how to make a Lemon Drop. My first one was no good. I sent it back. There was no problem at all. I later found out she was new and training. I can forgive that. I have been back since then and the drinks were great. Very friendly staff and Herb is usually around, keeping an eye on things. Which is a nice touch for our little hometown go-to restaurant. read more

Fun atmosphere with friendly, efficient servers. The restaurant was full and energetic for even a Thursday night. People love it here. Best bar steak in the area, priced right. My only complaint would be that for a "German" restaurant there should be a darker beer selection. read more

This is definitely the best steakhouse in the county! Sometimes there can be bit of a wait on weekends, but In my opinion that's a good sign !! I don't care what you call this restaurant, I don't care who got into a bru-ha-ha over what. This is the BEST german food I have ever had in my life, including in Germany. I would give my right eye for their goulash recipe. Service is superior, I LOVE that there is a glass viewing window so you can see that gorgeous hunk of meat being prepared, and the smell...oh that beautiful aroma. I get all misty when I think of the meal and the great atmosphere here. I live in Las Vegas, home to world class cuisine. This place could stand up to - and surpass most - even here. We have been to the Barkley jack neimanns several times, it was somewhat as you would expect, on the same level as Applebees. Tonight we traveled to Everson, oh my GOD, our meal was heaven on earth. You may not have the selections, but take my word, it was awesome. Best steak I have ever had. The wife loved hers and she is usually a chicken or whatever swims person. Great food, nice people, calm atmosphere. We will be making the 20 minute trip from Bellingham more often read more

Wish I could eat here every night of the week. Love sitting in the bar and having the bar steak along with whatever vegetables are available. The first time we ate here, I called it crack food, it was that good (not that I have ever had crack but one can imagine). I've never taken food home, the bar steak, veggies, and that Texas toast are just the right amount of dinner. However, if you want little more, try the beef goulash soup. We celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary with dinner at Herb Niemanns black forest Steakhouse in Everson. Husband had prime rib and I had 10 oz. Charbroiled sirloin steak. Although his prime rib was supposed to be cooked to medium well and my steak was supposed to be cooked medium, each of our entrees were very undercooked. The prime rib was almost raw. The sirloin steak was also almost raw, certainly not medium. The steak was accompanied by very, very greasy fried potatoes and also extremely greasy green beans with way too much coarse ground pepper on everything.The mashed potatoes accompanying the prime rib were good. We were given one piece of garlic toast each. We asked for doggy bags and brought our entrees home to finish cooking . We were very disappointed and will not drive 20 miles to Everson again. read more

The bar steak is the best. By far the best place to eat in Whatcom County. It is worth the drive.

The wife and I went to Jack Niemann's on 10/20/12 for our anniversary dinner. We both order the 21 oz rib eyes. While the food was prepared fast (apparently too fast) neither one of us were satisfied as to how our steaks were prepared. He steak were charred on the outside and tasted just like it looked. I ordered mine med rare and received a VERY rare steak (i.e. kinda jellified inside). We sent them back and the owner Jack himself threw my wife's plate back onto out dinner table and demanded to know what was wrong. He even said he was going to eat a piece of her steak and if he thought it tasted charred THEN he would recook a new one! He agreed my steak was rare but he couldn't understand why we were dissatisfied with our meals. I mean according to him in his 55 years as a chef he has "never" had an unsatisfied customer (seriously dude your joking right?). We were not nasty when sending our meals back and even the waitress agreed that our meals looked under par. Jack never gave an apology and basically acted as if he was doing us favors. The worst part was despite the fact my wife took one bite from her underwhelming steak and a bite from her taters and sent it back without ever receiving a corrected meal they still charged us for her meal! Bottom line is I'll never eat there again. It was the WORSE food service I have ever had in my life. Never have I had the owner come out to a table to argue with me about the taste of a meal, state that he'll eat some of it to prove HIS point then complain that CUSTOMERS were complaining about something his own staff agrees with. It might be time for ole Jack to retire if he continues to treat customers like this. Went to the one in Blaine afterwards and it was all around better experience/food. read more

Took my husband there for Father's Day. We ordered cocktails first. Took so long to get them and then they were so watered down. When we said something to the waitress, she said "Well I've never heard that one before". Our food took forever as well. When she finally brought my husband's steak, she told me another waitress took my soup so there would be another wait. My french onion soup was not very warm, when it did arrive. You might think the delay was because they were busy but it wasn't busy at all. The prices were definitely on the high side and the service was dreadful. We were there before and it was never like this but we won't go back. read more

The first thing that comes to mind is Wow! The food, service, and atmosphere was amazing. My husband and I had the pleasure of sitting right in front of the chef. This restaurant is incredible!!! The best steaks in the county, the logger steak is our favorite!!! So good! You get a lot of food for a very decent price and this place has been responsible for my top 5 best steaks I've ever had! My boyfriend and I went there Saturday night May 3rd and it was incredible! Our waitress was very busy because the place was packed but she still gave us wonderful service. There's a table for two where you can sit right in front of the grill where you can watch them grilling everyone's steaks and it is so much fun. The last few times we've sat there, the man grilling made sure we liked how our steaks were cooked and made sure to say goodbye to us when we left and its those little things that really make the experience a memorable one. read more

We have always enjoyed what we think of as a special time out at this restaurant. This time there were glitches that we've never experienced before. We waited an hour and a half for our main dishes. When I asked the wait person was defensive and said, "your filet's take extra time". My next ask got "the bar is full tonight". When our filet's came we found the German potatoes, usually a delight, to be quite salty. The filet's, we each had the same 6 oz size were both ordered "medium" (pink through, says the menu), hers was pretty consistent but mine was done "well" for 2/3 and pink for the last 1/3. Why were they so different for the same order presumable cooked side by side? The meat was also over salted which has never been a problem. The waitress was sugar sweet the rest of the night but just wasn't forthcoming with us and this is not typical of our experience with Niemann's in the past. read more

Hubby and I went to the Everson location tonight. Steaks were great! Caesar salad was so, so. Potatoes that came with the meal, wish I had ordered a baked potato. We were seated right in front of the grill, and the glass needs to be cleaned (replaced). The chef cooking the steaks was more personable than our waiter. Our waiter did his job, and NOTHING more. No chatting, no interest. I'd suggest going to the Bellingham location. Salad was the same, but everything else was superior! read more

Went to celebrate our anniversary. We both had the schnitzel cordon bleu. It was quite tasty and neither of completed it due to size. The potatoes were a hilight of our meal .My wife's lentil soup and my Ceasars salad were the best of both I've had in a long time. The service was outstanding.
