The Waite staff is fine and friendly, no issues there. The problem is the meal. The salads were fresh and really good. I ordered the teriyaki steak and my wife got the short ribs. Both of us got loaded potatoes and the veggies. Veggies were hot but like mush. I'm guessing Birds Eye frozen from a bag. No bueno. The loaded potatoes were lukewarm. The terryaki state was okay since you can hide flavors with the sauce. My wife's plate only varied with her choice of ribs that were done but dry. Overall it was quite underwhelming. I've been here many times (breakfast mostly) and before when it was Dutch mothers. Hate to say it, but it was poorly executed and a dismal experience. Sorry, rustlers, ya need to improve.

Mine was a perfectly delicious Blueberry Martini with a perfectly outrageous bubble atop it that so stunned us that, once we found our voices again, we couldn't stop talking about it. (Blew was right! See photo for this amazement.) (The Blood Orange Old Fashioned wasn't "half bad" either...) We ordered the salad special: oh, and it was! Not sure I have this all straight, but it included peach and blueberries, along with candied walnuts (a generous amount!) with a peach vinaigrette on the interestingly slightly wilty greens. Wonderful. The Miso-glazed Black Cod was melt-in-your-mouth. The Game of the Night was Elk. It was splendid (medium rare, so delicious, tender, not gamey). The roasted veg accompanying was very nice as was the stuffed baked potato. The fries were, hands down, the best we have ever had. I ended up eating them without dipping them in anything (and I am certain their aioli was a thing of wonder). Leslie steered us to beautiful wines. Sweetly (pun intended, but true) they gave us a birthday treat of Crème Brûlée--you had to smack hard with your spoon to crack the top--just the way I love it! It was an over-the-top occasion for us--and this was the perfect over-the-top place to celebrate. We loved Leslie. She was so patient and accommodating, and all her recommendations were perfect. We got to meet the owner, Steve--a really nice guy and committed to create a fabulous experience in a beautiful place. Wonderful birthday; wonderful night...couldn't ask for anything different. We started with the clams and mushrooms. Unfortunately, the clams had quite a bit of sand/grit in them, which made them difficult to eat. The mushrooms were also disappointing--they seemed like small button mushrooms from a jar covered in a BBQ-style sauce and just weren't what we expected. There were definitely some bright spots. My companion ordered the filet, and it was cooked perfectly. His mashed potatoes and fresh carrots were also very good. I ordered the scallop risotto, but the risotto was noticeably undercooked and crunchy. After hearing the owner tell the servers to "give her the scallops," they brought me a small dish with my three scallops on it. I appreciated the gesture, but the whole interaction just felt a little awkward. They did bring me a crème brûlée for my birthday, and it was delicious--probably the highlight of my meal. The owner, who was very casually dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, did come over and apologize for the food, which I appreciated. Overall, there were some good elements, especially the filet and crème brûlée, but there were too many misses for us to want to return. For a special-occasion seafood or steak dinner in the Fairhaven area, I think we'd choose somewhere else next time.

The inside can be quite loud as this is a family and kid friendly restaurant. The other times I sat outside in the covered area. The food is delicious, no matter what you try. From the beginning, the service felt unfriendly. We were seated outside, and when our food was brought out I politely asked for napkins. Instead of bringing them, our waitress told me I could go inside and get them myself because she was "so busy." That immediately made us feel like we were an inconvenience. What happened next was even more surprising. A young child, probably around 4 years old, was quietly drawing with sidewalk chalk. He wasn't bothering anyone and it honestly seemed like a sweet, harmless moment. A woman who appeared to be the manager or owner came outside and told him he needed to clean up his "chalk mess" because they don't allow chalk on their sidewalk. The child's mother came over to understand what was happening, and after the conversation she ended up getting water from her own car to wash the chalk away. The little boy looked completely confused. Watching this unfold right next to our table left a really bad impression. It felt unnecessarily harsh and lacked compassion for a small child who wasn't hurting anyone. Unfortunately, the food also didn't make up for the experience--it was underwhelming, especially for the price. Between the unfriendly service, the disappointing food, and the way the family with the toddler was treated, we won't be returning. I understand businesses have policies, but kindness and customer service matter, and this experience felt like it was missing both.

The food was fine, a Clubhouse sandwich and a Rueben. The Rueben could have used more corned beef and less sauerkraut in my opinion. Both had huge piles of fries. I think instead of so many fries they could give the plate a nice crunchy pickle. The Clubhouse was very large but again the meat portions were lacking. No real complaints, only a couple suggestions. I think we'll be back. There are more items on the menu that we want to try.

This place had the largest breaded shrimp I think I've seen anywhere. They were very good. Had a BLT and a toasted turkey melt that was so good. It's a go to stop anytime we are in Lynden. Good food, great staff.
