There's always a place for an old school diner and Lynden is that place and Fairway Cafe is definitely old school. The restaurant was impeccably clean and nicely decorated although a bit dated. Service was fast and friendly although my request for ranch dressing for my fries somehow got translated to tartar sauce... I wasn't upset though because I also like tartar sauce on my fries. The food was fine, a Clubhouse sandwich and a Rueben. The Rueben could have used more corned beef and less sauerkraut in my opinion. Both had huge piles of fries. I think instead of so many fries they could give the plate a nice crunchy pickle. The Clubhouse was very large but again the meat portions were lacking. No real complaints, only a couple suggestions. The perfect cafe with great food. Comfortable booths and large portions. Has all the traditional homey cafe food you'd expect. The menus is large with sandwiches, soup, fish & chips, salads and great looking burgers. We stopped in between lunch and dinner so it was quiet and we were seated right away. This place had the largest breaded shrimp I think I've seen anywhere. They were very good. Had a BLT and a toasted turkey melt that was so good. It's a go to stop anytime we are in Lynden. Popped in on a rainy morning and was greeted promptly. Plenty of booths and tables were filled but the lone waitress handled it all masterfully. Kitchen appeared spotless and very well organized. Our first visit and we enjoyed it. Food was good and so was the Service. They give you plenty of fries with the Sandwich. We both had the Reuben. One was slightly over toasted and they serve the Thousand Island dressing on the side which I enjoyed but my dining companion did not. We lingered over a long lunch and never felt rushed. Fries that came with burger were OK, slightly above average yet piping hot and crispy on outside, tender on inside. The burger was Excellent! Not so much the meat itself, while good, it is more the whole package. They don't skimp on anything here. Had the half pound burger, and the bun. Everything melted extremely well together, very pleasantly surprised, extremely. Unfortunately came at a bust time so the wait staff was also busy, yet, they still took great care of us. My sorority sisters 18 of us had lunch there yesterday.,Wow,the portions and flavors. Cesar,salad was huge, shrimp salad was fresh. My sister Elaine and I split BLT with sweet potato fries. Sandwich was huge that it took a,wide,open,mouth. Splitting dishes was not problem like so many places. The pies were $5.99 a,slice for a 1/4 of a whole pie.,Raspberry cream was to die for. Fast service and extremely wonderful waitress. Arrived orders taken for all 18 and within 20 minutes all served. Individual checks too! Ask for backroom for,large parties. There is a fairly decent size shared parking lot here so parking really isn't an issue. When you go in you seat yourself so no waiting there. We sat at the counter so we got menus and drink orders taken pretty quickly. They were pretty busy but even the wait for the food was not long. The only negative really was one gal was not very friendly maybe she was new not sure wasn't rude though. We ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. The biscuits were very large and the perfect texture to hold the gravy. The gravy had a good balance of sausage, gravy and spices with a great consistency. Unfortunately they were out of hashbrowns so they were serving diced potatoes which we did not mind and they were good cooked just right and not overly seasoned. Well eggs are eggs however they cooked them spot on. The Bacon oh yummy I love bacon it is hard to mess up and it seems they start with a good quality so it was scrumptious. The service is amazing, the food is NOT. We had breakfast there and were very disappointed with the food. The hashbrowns were heated up but not browned at all. They were totally white. Scrambled eggs come from an egg mixture which has a weird flavor to it. If you order biscuits and gravy, they don't make the biscuits and the gravy comes from a can (I asked, they confirmed). The coffee is horrific. Folgers is gourmet in comparison. The wait staff is very friendly and will keep your coffee topped off if you can drink it. There were three of us eating and we all were pretty disappointed. I normally don't do reviews like this, but I felt compelled to let people know what they are getting into. if you are going to see some nice wait staff, this is the place. No menu sanitation. None! Your silverware is already on the shared tables with others able to sneeze or touch. Absolutely NO masks, gloves or consideration for the community's health. She knew the menu and anticipated our every need without being overwhelming. I didn't see her fill them and yet our glasses were never empty. Workers have always been rude even before covid when I would go with my grandparents (and ONLY because of my grandparents). Horrible customer service. This was a very pleasant surprise. Not one to usually eat in a strip mall, my mother recommended this place for breakfast. I ordered a "small" size country-fried steak, eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit, while my wife ordered a ham and cheese omelet. The food was very, very good. The country-fried steak was nicely battered and fried and the eggs were good. The potatoes were pretty pedestrian...nothing special about them. The biscuit was a nice surprise. Not a lot of flavour, but more like a southern biscuit, very light and fluffy and very, very hot. My wife's pancakes that came with the omelet were delicious, the bits that I stole off of her. The restaurant itself is very dated, although they do a pretty good job of keeping it nicely kept-up. It looks like a country diner and everything is very clean. We didn't have too much of a problem getting served and the food arrived quickly, but I do always worry about "seat yourself" establishments. But the place had a very open floor plan that I'm sure lent itself to quickly identifying customers. The refills on our soda and coffee came quickly and the price was reasonable for the large amount of food we received. Definitely a place to bring the family for a morning breakfast. And I hear their lunches are pretty good too. We didn't stay in the area long enough to give that a shot, though. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this awesome cafe. Take a look at the photo I posted of my breakfast...it not only tasted wonderful but it looked great on the plate! I've never had a fried egg in my life and I told the waitress I wanted to try one but I don't like any brown on it. She said, "Oh, you want it over easy and basted." That was the yummiest egg I have ever eaten. As a matter of fact, the picture is on my phone and I show it to waitresses at other restaurants and ask -Can y'all do this? I ate there with friends for dinner as well. One friend ordered the fried clams. They were AMAZING. Big and juicy clams. I've only ever had the dried up crusty ones at Red Lobster. I've also eaten the Monte Cristo which was great. Their chili is wonderful! It is served Tex Mex style and topped with olives, green onions and cheese. If you are coming to Lynden, don't miss this place. If you live in Bellingham, trust me, it's worth the drive. UPDATE: Just went back to the Fairway Cafe on 5-14-11. Had the clams again and it was like eating rubber. I guess every restaurant has an off day. Not good at all. HOWEVER - I ate a piece of apple pie (because they were out of every other pie they make) it was the BEST apple pie I ever put in my mouth. Very cinnamony! This is a casual diner where the "regulars" rise early and swap farming tales over coffee. I frequent this joint every Friday at 6:25 am for a Toastmasters meeting, and I'm always surprised to find that there are so many people already occupying most of the booths. The service is efficient. I've never had a long wait to order food or to pay my $10+ food bill at the register by the door. Don't expect cheerful wait staff though; after all, they are starting their day before the crack of dawn. The breakfast portions are presented on a serving platter which would be the centerpiece for a family of 5 in most other countries. The food is decent, but truthfully, if Toastmasters didn't meet here, I would never make a special trip here. read more

Been there twice for breakfast and both times it was awesome. Their sausage is great! I've had both the patties and the links. While both were great tasting - go for the links, you won't be disappointed. A lot of restaurants seem to have difficulty making a good over-medium egg, but not Fairway. And one thing is for sure, you will never complain about small portions there. read more

I've been craving gravy for a while now. I haven't found many restaurants in Washington state that do Gravy well or at all. Speaking for most Hawaiians, if you grew up and live, and or lived in Hawaii, I don't care what island gravy is a staple in most restaurants. So Washington isn't one of those states. However, I think I've found the misnomer, the Black or Gravy sheep of the pack. Fairway Cafe might just be 'that' restaurant in WA state that brings gravy back. All I know they did me a solid with their Pork Schnitzel with fries and Brown Gravy! Sure, they don't have Sticky rice. But this Pork Schnitzel was outstanding! Loaded with Gravy and it even came with a dinner salad. I'm enjoying one of their homemade pies. My waitress sold me on the Raspberry Delight pie: the crust is layered with whipped cream cheese, then layered with Delightful Raspberry compote and topped with homemade whipped cream, and I had to have coffee. (I'm heading home for a walk and the gym for some weights to work off this Wonderful meal. The wait staff are extremely friendly and service oriented. This place could make it where I come from. They earned me as a customer and I didn't break the bank. If you live in Bellingham, Ferndale, or nearby?
