If you want some good old fashioned American diner food, look no further. Came here with a group of 5 on the way to the Bellingham airport. It's a few miles off the freeway, and it was pretty darn busy for a Monday morning. There is a large amount of seating and the 5 of us were able to sit pretty comfortably in one of their bigger booths. I ordered the French toast combo, which includes "3 pieces" of French toast, sausage, bacon and 3 eggs for $12.99. This was a huge meal! The 3 pieces turn into 6 half slices, and with the additional food it was a LOT of food! They cooked my eggs well (medium over) and I shared the meats with the bf who got biscuits and gravy with eggs. The portions are generous as is the price. Okay. Some friends love this place, but I wonder if it's just because there's really not that much in Ferndale. In 2023, prices are on the lower side of what I consider reasonable, which means yay! No $25 burgers here! But - you do get what you pay for. My burger was fine - nothing special. It is a good solid patty, but other than that, my "cajun burger" had a slice of barely melted cheese and some pickled jalapenos on top. I have been told other burgers are better, but meh, I wouldn't be itching to go back unless someone else wanted to. Service is fine - it wasn't that busy but there was only one person on. It was pretty slow and one of the things we asked for were forgotten - bacon on a burger. At least it wasn't on the bill, but it was sort of frustrating since we had to wait another 10-15 min for her to come back so I could get some vinegar for my fries and let her know about the bacon. It has the potential to be a cool townie pub, but it's sort of unclear if you can order booze in the restaurant area, and overall everything was okay. Ferndale needs more stuff up there, so I'm glad there's something, but I would probably go to a food truck down the street before coming here again. read more

First off, call for directions, GPS got us close. The restaurant has a sparse but adequate menu. Anyone can find their own dish, and they're all good. The Halibut Oscar was a fresh take on a classic. The Halibut was perfectly cooked and had a hint of char....perfect. The crab and asparagus were well done with a wonderful sauce. We also had the Prawns in a wonderful cream, pesto sauce. The cream cut the "sharpness " of the pesto. It would have overpowered the 5 nice Prawns. I had the Cajun mac n cheese. Think jambalaya with mac n cheese instead of rice. Ultimate comfort food. The adult beverages were outstanding and the bartender did an amazing job. Too top that off , you're overlooking a working Marina with Marvelous Sunsets. I saved the best for last. Adding 16 hours later....... On top of all the below one us ended up with what looks like food poisoning from the beef dip in the middle of the night, totally added salt to the injury. All in all, spa and resort is great, the regular staff are great, but stay AWAY from cedars restaurant at all costs!!!! Management does not seem to care and obviously there are some quality/safety issues with food handling. The resort is great, spa is good. All the staff for the most part are good and helpful. I stay often, but I have an issue with management. My issue; we had reservations for 5:00 pm for dinner. We arrived 15 min early and the hostess seated us right away. The server was good and took our order pretty quickly. We noticed the restaurant was pretty much empty (it was still a bit early for dinner). We were served our drinks and then our food pretty quickly. Food was ok, nothing great, but ok. We decided to skip desert and come back later in the evening after our spa visit to order it. We paid our bill and were viewing some of the paintings they sell in the restaurant by a local artist, considering purchasing a couple of them. Then a woman i believe by the name Leslie (i have to assume a manager or head server) came to our table within a few minutes of paying our bill and asked us to move to the lounge as our table was reserved by other guests. It was 5:35 (35 minutes after our reservation time) she told us we were welcome to sit in the lounge. The restaurant was mostly empty. We were taken off guard and were planning to leave within 5-10 min anyways, so we got up and left. I decided as this was not the way customer service should be and so i decided to make a formal complaint at front desk. Gentleman was apologetic and very understanding, he left a message for a manager to contact us. Later that night we got back to our room only to see an email message from a manager justifying what this sub manager had done. This place needs an overhaul of managers! Never in my life have i seen such poor dealings with a customer complaint. This is completely unacceptable and i expect more from this place. I am somewhat local and spend much time here but will reconsider for next time! If that specific table was reserved for other guests they should have sat us at any of the other 50 tables in the place. The biggest issue is management has no understanding on what or how customer service works! Update 5 days later: Whats sad about this is we come here all the time. On the day we checked out, they credited us the last day since we were leaving early and checking out at 11:00 am. They made promises that they were going to investigate and get back to us. Its been 5 days and I've heard nothing. Im not expecting any sorts of compensation as i told the manager on the day we left. I do want an apology from the kitchen mgr that started this whole fiasco. I did a Google search for "breakfast" while traveling and came across this place. I picked the Lil Cedars Special because I was craving some biscuits and gravy. I walked in and sat myself at the bar. The restaurant was very busy because it was brunch time, but everyone who works there seemed in a good mood. They did a great job working the dining room and the vibes were very good. The food took a little longer to come out because of how busy they were, so if you come in a rush this won't be a match for you. It was worth waiting for! I especially liked the hash browns. I hate to give this place two stars because there were a few circumstances beyond their control. Here's the disclaimer about that. One server doing all of the front... phone orders, bagging to go, serving and cashing out. It's a lot to ask of any one person. That being said, she is in desperate need of time management. She could only focus on one task at a time. And that task would get dropped if another came up and it did. The table had not been wiped. There was some sticker reside on it that supposedly could not come off. I scraped it with a fingernail... it comes off. But even if it didn't, salt pepper and crumbs around the table condiments. Not a lot, but enough to know the table had not been cleaned. Moving on. Menus came and mine was dirty, a bit sticky. Not how they should be handed out at the best of times. Ice waters came handled by the rim... Observations... there were only a few tables occupied. But not one table got their order as it should be. Missing items, tables food being delivered spread out rather than together. One family, the woman didn't get her meal until the two kids and husband were done! A table of three walked in and offered to grab menus, but server said she'd bring them. 10 minutes later, the woman went up and got them. She brought their drinks to them how...? Yep, hands on the rim. Get a tray! Meanwhile a table of 4 seniors who had finally got their food and asked for a sauce that was suppose to go with her food, got up and asked for it again. I watched the server take a credit card on the table of 4 and walk past a table that was now empty but had a dirty setting for one that had finished. MANAGE YOUR TIME. Buss that easy table on your way back. When she did come back she did "buss" the table but no wipe down. While I feel bad for this lone server cashier, she was way too scattered. Some time management training would significantly change this. Back to our table. We ordered an appetizer, but she came back and had forgotten they were out. That's ok. Not a big deal. Our food arrived. My gf had the crispy shrimp, skinny fries and a salad. Salad was small but fine and it was fresh. I ordered the three piece fish and chips. When our plates came it looked REALLY good. The shrimp were nicely coated and crunchy looking. My fish looked fantastic. GF asked for cocktail sauce as there was no sauce at all for her shrimp and I asked for malt vinegar... a staple of fish and chips. I watched her go back a chat with a local... she obviously knew him. She got the fresh made and not actually stirred horseradish and chili sauce and the bottle of vinegar and set it down. Then went back to her conversation. After 5 minutes... our food starting to cool... I walked up to the counter to get it... she's busy being scattered and socializing. She sharply stated she would bring them. I said you are very busy so I thought I'd help you by coming to you to get it. She said thanks and handed it over. BE OK WITH HELP! The fries were fresh, hot and delicious. So there is that. The shrimp was tasty but the batter was unseasoned. Nothing to it. Usually there's at least salt, pepper, some kind of seasoning. Nothing. They offer 2 fish and chips, a two piece and a three. They gave me four. Ok that was nice. My fish batter tasted like dough. It was not doughy but it again was so bland, it took away from the fish. The reason for getting fried seafood isn't just for the seafood taste, but also the usually, complimentary taste of the seasoned batter. It lacked. The real sad part was I had to keep checking to see if the fish was cooked. Maybe it was freezer burned before being battered in dough. Somehow it was overcooked and rubbery. A few bites were like chewy calamari. I kept inspecting the bites. You could see two of them were dried out. It simply lacked anything flavorful. They do do a lot of Uber eats and DoorDash. One driver came back because a burger was missing. He had checked his ticket and it matched. The server just forgot to put it on the order ticket. She acknowledged that. This means another group that did not get their food at the same time, the driver certainly lost his tip and had to deliver twice to the same customer using his car and his time. Bummer. This place is an old school restaurant. It's been around since 1909. You'd think a place like this would have some long time recipes around. If the business owner is reading this, please please please train that poor girl. She was VERY polite, and could be a great server. It's really not her fault. Can't afford to hire someone to at least take phone orders and package it to go? Get in there and do it yourself. Take better care of your employees. Lesser a person would walk out on you. She kept a smile and did what she could. Sorry folks, this is a hard pass for me. read more

I gave this restaurant 5 stars,but it deserves 10. The burgers were oh-so juicy, mac and cheese must be at least a half pound of cheddar and the steak fries perfectly seasoned. The regular burger is a half-pounder, and their is no kid's burger, so if you have children and they want a burger like mine did, only give them half. My only criticism is the burgers were so juicy that my 10 year old was wearing it. Excellent service added to great food and you get a 5 but deserve a 10 (according to the 10 year old who assisted in the writing of this review). read more

I recently found myself early for a meeting in Ferndale and (as usual) hungry. So I Yelped the best breakfast nearby and was shocked to find out there was only one option: Cedar's. I found a parking spot outside and sauntered in. Cedar's has an old-school, wood-paneled vibe and is full of local Ferndalians catching up on the latest town news. I found a seat in the center of it all, ordered food, and kept my ears peeled for anything exciting, but other than a couple of older guys talking politics and a couple of younger gals talking about failed relationships there wasn't anything too titillating on the town gossip front. Soon my giganto plate of breakfast arrived. It was typical coffee shop fare, with plenty o' gravy on my biscuit and well-cooked eggs. The biscuit was a little dry, so I didn't finish it, but otherwise it was a fine - if not remarkable - meal. For being the only place to get a morning meal in Ferndale, this was not a bad option. This is one of our regular haunts. We go once a week or so. Everything on the menu is good! Their scrambled eggs are the best I've had, anywhere (I get mine with cheese). Their wings are meaty and large and far better than BWW. For sandwiches I recommend the turkey, bacon, avocado on toasted rye. Their burgers are delish! On the dinner menu they have a chicken artichoke dish that is very tasty. And you can never go wrong with fish tacos!! They also have a full bar upstairs that serves in the restaurant. Portion sizes are substantial. Highly recommend. Refinery workers here for turnaround, or whatever, this is a great place to eat while you're on the road. Healthy portions and nice variety of delicious foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner..... And they're on the main drag through town, heading from 76 refinery to the highway. read more

We've only eaten at Cedar's two times and both times it was a low point in our dining experiences. The waitresses ignore you if you are not a regular. The meals appears to be abundant, but the service is terrible. This last time (and believe me, it will be our last time) the restaurant was not busy, yet it still took 15 minutes to get our order in. Then after 10 minutes the waitress brought the menu back and said we're out of meat for you order. She then walked away and took orders and chatted with other people in the restaurant. Just ignored us!! We left. Fortunately there are other places to eat nearby with good service. Looking at the other one star reviews apparently there others customers have had the same experiences with poor service. Seems to be a recurring problem. Try Al's Cafe across the street.
