In town for the night, we were looking for a place to watch the game and Northwater had solid reviews, so we decided to give it a try. Our server was outstanding. They happily put the game on when we asked and were very attentive throughout our visit, which made a great first impression. I ordered the burger with bacon and blue cheese and requested no condiments. I think there may have been some confusion in the kitchen, as the garnishes were left off as well, but our server promptly brought them out when asked. Unfortunately, the burger itself was overcooked and lacked flavor. The ciabatta roll was only partially toasted, and overall the dish fell a bit flat. The fries, however, were excellent hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and absolutely delicious. I don't usually like coated fries, but these were a home run. My dining partner ordered the BLT and said the sandwich was great overall. We also shared the mozzarella sticks appetizer. They were a bit different from traditional mozzarella sticks, thicker cheese with a heavier breading. While they were good, I felt the order should have included six instead of four. Overall, even though we were one of only two tables in the restaurant, we had a great lunch, thanks largely to the excellent service. read more

We stayed at the hotel and decided to have breakfast here since it was convenient. We chose the buffet, which was fine overall. The bacon was okay, the eggs tasted like they might have been reconstituted, the English muffin was tough, but the white toast was excellent, thickly cut and toasted just right. The fruit and coffee were both okay. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and really tried hard to make sure we had what we needed. Service was definitely the highlight. The restaurant was clean and though there were lots of people there it wasn't too noisy. I was surprised to see how worn the booth seating was. It was convenient and quick, which fit our morning plans, but we decided to try other spots in town for the rest of our meals. read more

We love to eat breakfast here when we stay at the Holiday Inn & Suites. The bagel breakfast sandwich is shockingly amazing. You would think a simple sandwich would be mediocre but let me tell you, all of the ingredients are incredibly fresh and tasty! OMG.. Server Milly and Chef Vilma were amazing.. The food and service was excellent. The chef cooked the best steak I have had in years. Thick and perfectly made medium rare.. The steak was called a Cap steak as I recall. The seasoning and sauce were out of this world. I can still taste it. I know where I am going for my birthday dinner. They have greatly improved their food menu. Great selection, and lots of options for happy hour. You know that you are in a hotel bar, but it doesn't feel like that. What kept it from being a five star is the service was not great - it was just good. Nice enough, but there's room for improvement there. The service was five stars. The Niçoise salad was a huge bummer. For real, they just dumped an enormous can of hard packed tuna on top. Whose idea was that? Dry-yolked, over-hard boiled eggs and flavorless potatoes. The green beans were great. The lettuce was bitter. Tomatoes were ice cold and flavorless. Olives were fine. Dressing was alright. Overall not impressed, a small portion of actual fresh or even frozen fish would not be difficult to find, adjacent to the airport in a seaside town. We were staying in the Hilton one night and did not have a rental car. We decided just to go sit in this restaurant. I am glad we did. I ordered the Western bacon cheeseburger and my wife ordered the regular cheeseburger. The burgers were huge and very juicy. The fries were crispy and had a good flavor. Overall it looks like they use quality ingredients and the wait on the food was not long at all. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us some tips for our early morning flight the next morning. If you're flying out of Bellingham airport, this is an excellent location for a pre-flight meal or drink. Inside the airport terminal, the options are limited and overpriced. There's a bar (Scotty Brown) and a small stand after security and one more stand before security You can easily walk from Northwater to the terminal from in less than 10 minutes. The food and drinks here are very reasonably priced, and I thought the quality of their food was solid. Food: I'm not a burger person, but I thought their burger was very flavorful. Somehow, I ordered a side of soup (which turned out to be chili) for $2 extra, which was more like a meal of its own. Unless you have a huge appetite, you may want to stick with salad or fries. Ambience and service: It's clean but cold. I don't think it's romantic or intimate. As it's specious, it can accommodate large groups fine. Being out of the way, their menu is limited. One thing they do is make perfect coffee in the tradition of the "Golden Age of Diners" when coffee was so cheap it sold for 5 cents a cup. Now all the chains like Ihop, Denney's, Shari's, etc. have cut back on their grounds and Starbucks and the baritas over-roast their beans to make cream and flaorinf mask the flavor. Even upscale steak houses cut back and still charge $4.95 plus tip for their "used dishwater". Thank you, Northwater. Keep the tradition. read more

Stopped in for an early lunch. Had a hankering for a burger, saw the reviews on Yelp, and Northwater did not disappoint! We both had the bison burger with a smidge of Gorgonzola cheese. The burger was PERFECTLY cooked - which is notable as it is really easy to dry out bison. The hand cut fries were also excellent! We sat in the bar, and the bartender was handling the few tables. I've eaten here many times over the past few years. I preferred the menu options prior to when they closed though. The menu isn't terrible now, they are taking advantage of their brick pizza oven, which was really good until my most recent visit. I stay at the Holiday Inn for a week about once a month for work, so like to eat at Northwater once or twice while I stay. The problem I had with my last meal here, the pizza was terrible. It used to be really good. I don't know what happened. I had to send the first one back because the dough was raw, not to mention they didn't cut the pizza. The remake the gave me was mediocre at best. I'm hoping they can get back on track. I will see next month when I return for work. read more

I've attended several events at Northwater over the past two years. It's an attractive restaurant and bar with "okay" food and service. Nothing special. Northwater is clean and well decorated, but it doesn't feel like a comfortable and welcoming place. I wouldn't meet a date here; maybe an out of town acquaintance that I feel obligated to meet. The food is decent, but nothing stands out as being exceptional. I never find myself thinking, "I really need to go to Northwater!" Service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. For dinner we had the chicken Caesar salad, a Cobb salad, chicken flatbread, and chocolate cake with ice cream. We enjoyed all of the food we ordered, couldn't finish everything. For breakfast we both had the Innjoyable breakfast which included eggs, toast, bacon, and potatoes. Again, everything was good. I can't speak for any experience inside the restaurant since we only ate in our room. They do have indoor and outdoor seating (patio isn't pet friendly). Here it is, the time for a birthday. I had heard a lot of good things about Northwater and had it on my 'todo' list for some time. A birthday celebration is always a good reason to try out one of Bellingham's premier restaurants. Granted this place is inside of a Holiday Inn, and that didn't dissuade me, as Yelp has a lot of amazing reviews under this place. The ambiance is modern and very current in design. Got there a little on the late side and the dining room was vacant. No matter, it was a celebration and I wanted to see if they could hold up their rating from all the other reviews. The waiter greeted me with an upbeat happy style and listed off the specials. He did go on about the pork chop, and I was sold. They boasted about the "dry aged pork chop" and when he brought it out. I was kind in awe of how beautiful the plate looked. The pork chop was married with a pomegranate wild rice that boosted the subtle flavors the chef had cooked it with. Each bite had amazing flavor down to the last piece. To top off the evening, they brought some kind of whipped cream and chocolate covered shortbread that was even better than it looked. The server was on his game all night long, with short fun conversations and making sure I was satisfied with everything. To summarize, this turned out to be an amazing choice and the reviews are very much on the mark. I would gladly recommend this place for an intimate or group gathering. read more

Featuring a rotating tap that almost always includes at least one local brew, Northwater serves up some awesome Happy Hour food items and they have some great bartenders. Give them a try! Stopped by here to grab a bite to eat just before our Vegas trip (pre-COVID). It was a recommended location near the airport. It was very clean and the menu was simple and familiar. Service at the time was pretty slow and unattentive despite only 3 tables being full. I did enjoy my meal which came in the American size portion (no surprise). I couldn't finish my plate which was wasteful but both dishes were enjoyable. We felt like we got good value for the reasonable price we paid. It's a great place to eat if you are stuck in Bellingham airport. Definitely would go again because of the food quality and price. Hope it opens again soon. read more

My first time eating at the North water and it was great, here's why. I was with a group of six and for a Friday evening it wasn't very busy. We had a large enough Booth table for 6 and started with two appetizers the smoked salmon dip and Margarita something flatbread which looks a lot like pizza. Both items were on the menu listed under "shares", and were very good. Two of us ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf, two others ordered burgers and one ordered the roast duck and I had the shrimp ravioli. The wait staff and servers were excellent at their duties and Ryan told us it was the first night of their new menu. Everyone in our group said their meal was delicious and I enjoyed my ravioli very much but it was a little bit on the rich side for my taste but delicious nonetheless Overall a nice dining experience and I plan to visit again to try other menu selections. read more

It is across the street from the Bellingham Airport and located inside the Holiday Inn Express. Don't let the location deter you. Their burgers were cooked to perfection and the fries were crispy and hot. They had several beers on tap and a full bar. It was a good stop after a long flight.
