Upstairs Bar

Great new spot downtown Ferndale. We came in for drinks and some food. We sat in the bar area and got great service! Got our drinks and went upstairs where they later brought our food up to.

We had a wonderful dinner here. The burgers are fantastic. They came out steaming hot with the perfect balance of sauce to toppings ratio. The bun was light and fluffy but perfectly crisp. A fan favorite for our family was also the shredded lettuce, much preferred over leaf on a burger. The meat was juicy and perfectly prepared. My husband enjoyed the classic cheeseburger with fries and I had the bacon cheeseburger with tots. My sister had the bacon cheeseburger as well but with the onion rings. All of the sides were crispy and well seasoned. The drinks were good and all the games we could have wanted to see were playing on the tv's. We will definitely be returning again and again.

On a recent Saturday I headed north to Ferndale for a friend's 50th bday soiree at a popular local…read moreMexican restaurant. After sipping on some margaritas and nomming a quesadilla, we all headed to the after-affair at nearby Outlaws. Confession: even though I'm a dive bar fanatic and lived in nearby Bellingham for many years, I had never been to Outlaws before! Well, now I'm kinda regretting that. This place is what you'll find in a lot of dive bars: kinda dark, but with a lot of neon, and a lot of locals hanging out on a weekend night. In other words, it was perfect! Having already enjoyed a couple of margaritas and facing a long drive home later, I settled on a pint of my trusty fave, Mac 'n Jacks, while the bday crowd enjoyed a variety of shots and (apparently very strong) cocktails. We played some pool, sat around their HUGE communal table, and just enjoyed each other's company while the 80s tunes played and the bar filled up. While I didn't get to try any food while I was here, there are rumors going around that their wings are amazing - so next time I'm up that way, I'll have to check 'em out.

Its a dive bar....so it's a fun night. I came for the mechanical bull but was told it was no longer…read morehere. Apparently some liability issue from previous time. No more mechanical bull and shuffle board. The only thing left is a pool table. Came to celebrate a friend's birthday. Bartenders are great there and met some regulars who seem great too. Try one or two shots off their shot menu. Too many and some never heard of. Per the Bartender she only need the shot number not the name. Wish they had some live music or a juke box but maybe they do and we were too busy talking and playing pool to notice or dance. Can't wait to go back for another fun night.

A local favorite, a little bit off the beaten path, but worse looking for it. Very friendly and timely service, really good food, and a great menu that everybody will find something on that they like. If you're vegan, that last comment may be inaccurate ;-). You gotta try the milkshakes, this reminds me of what I was used to growing up at some of the great family restaurants in the 1970s. Outstanding! The interior of the restaurant is decorated with an eclectic Western theme and your eyes will never get tired of looking for all the details. Our granddaughter loved it! And so did the grandparents and my dad. We'll be back.

The horse radish was pretty generic and didn't have any "punch" to it. The Caesar salad lettuce was a bit wilted and too much dressing. The loaded baked potato was okay. My son enjoyed his clam chowder. The pot pie was rather small for $20! It was not enjoyed. Unfortunately, a frozen Marie Calendars is better. Two people ordered this and didn't eat them all. Salad bar is pretty underwhelming. The star here is the peanut butter chocolate shake! Yum! Service was attentive and friendly. Parking: Quite a few spots that go all the way around the building, but was a bit full on a Friday night.

They happily put the game on when we asked and were very attentive throughout our visit, which made a great first impression. I ordered the burger with bacon and blue cheese and requested no condiments. I think there may have been some confusion in the kitchen, as the garnishes were left off as well, but our server promptly brought them out when asked. Unfortunately, the burger itself was overcooked and lacked flavor. The ciabatta roll was only partially toasted, and overall the dish fell a bit flat. The fries, however, were excellent hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and absolutely delicious. I don't usually like coated fries, but these were a home run. My dining partner ordered the BLT and said the sandwich was great overall. We also shared the mozzarella sticks appetizer. They were a bit different from traditional mozzarella sticks, thicker cheese with a heavier breading. While they were good, I felt the order should have included six instead of four. Overall, even though we were one of only two tables in the restaurant, we had a great lunch, thanks largely to the excellent service.

The bacon was okay, the eggs tasted like they might have been reconstituted, the English muffin was tough, but the white toast was excellent, thickly cut and toasted just right. The fruit and coffee were both okay. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and really tried hard to make sure we had what we needed. Service was definitely the highlight. The restaurant was clean and though there were lots of people there it wasn't too noisy. I was surprised to see how worn the booth seating was. It was convenient and quick, which fit our morning plans, but we decided to try other spots in town for the rest of our meals.
