This review is way overdue. This is my go-to spot for special occasions. I first discovered this place about five years ago when my husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We had such a wonderful experience that we came back to celebrate our anniversary three years in a row. Funny enough, we always seem to get seated in the same booth and have had the pleasure of the same great service each time. The COVID years were the only time we didn't go. Tip: Order the tomahawk to share--it's the best dish hands down on the menu, in my opinion. The fat is perfectly charred, and the meat just melts in your mouth. Tip #2: Get the crème brûlée for dessert--you won't regret it. Must order: Brussels sprouts appetizer, green salad, Caesar for two, and the New York steak. Skip: Ribeye steak, escargot, and the seafood tower. Before the main courses, they provide a palate cleanser, which is a really nice touch. Reservations are recommended, but I've seen people walk in after an evening at the casino and get a table with only a short wait. We were a party of seven. Seated with no problems. We ordered steaks, salmon, ribs and were not disappointed. Our waitress was very busy with all of us but kept up with the orders, drinks and excellent service. I was a little disappointed to find Caesar salads are no longer made at the table and coffee no longer served in French press. The little things that make this restaurant special. Unfortunately our last visit was a let down. We've been coming to this restaurant for 10 years and have always loved it. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. Our service was slow, they no longer provide the flavored butter and crackers, they were out of stock of nearly all bottles of wine, and our steaks were cooked incorrectly. My husband ordered the rib eye and was served a New York. Since our waiter never returned to check on us. He finally decided just to eat it (after almost 10 minutes). Our service was not a fine dining experience at all this time. Quite the opposite. And our meal was disappointing. After reading recent reviews these changes may be due to new management. Hmmm... we live in the Pacific Northwest and Salmon has been removed from the menu!?!? Are you kidding me? That's a good one! Ok. So let's start the review: Four adults and we shared delicious roasted maitake mushrooms appetizer and Brussel sprouts appetizer with complementary rosemary sourdough rolls along with three differently flavored itsy bitsy piped butters. So cute. Entrees: 1) house made pasta with grilled shrimp add on. Pasta dish was bland. Shrimp good. 2) Filet with garlic mash and asparagus. Filet had too much fat. 3) Filet with baked potato and asparagus. Sent the filet back twice due to not being cooked to desired fineness. Luckily we were comped this meal. 4) NY with garlic mash and carrots. Very pleasant meal. The steak was perfect. Overall impression is a two-star review. Service was lackluster. Food just ok. One of us wanted a nice salmon dinner. (Still don't get that... hmmm) The Steak House used to be a really special high end establishment well known and revered as the best in all the PNW with five star service. For 10+ years, a group us friends chose the Silver Reef Steakhouse for our annual Christmas dinner celebration as it had, by far, the best steaks & service in Whatcom County. This year sadly, we noticed considerable changes. First, the menu changed and some loved items that were previously on this menu are no longer there. Cream corn was a favorite; salmon entree was removed. The rib eye steak increased from $45 to $67 and was not the same quality, as you can see in this years picture it lacked the marbling & topping that was and should always be present. The baked potato was now an additional $4 charge when it previously was included as a potato choice at no extra charge. What I so loved about this restaurant was the little things that made your dining experience so unforgettable. No more complimentary crab spread pate with crackers; no more caesar salad made at your table by the servers. Sadly to say, we received oily caesar salads lacking cesar dressing; which we returned. No more lifting the covers off your steaks at the table, by the servers, when your steaks arrived. The amount of dessert options drastically decreased. I was grateful to see the palate cleanser of champagne & I believe sorbet, was still served. Ceasar salad HORRIBLE (no longer made at your table fresh). It had zero taste - zero. We couldn't finish it. Baked potatoes were cold. All condiments for the potato on the side. Butter would not melt. Couldn't eat the potato. Everyone served one lack luster cold roll with a dime of butter. Service lacking. Had to ask for soda refills - every time. We asked why the menu changed. We were told they have a new executive chef who made changes - major FAIL. We already had reservations for our anniversary but are canceling. Never going back. We've been coming here for years and usually our go to for a great steak. They have changed their menu about 6-7 months with more variety but the quality has gone downhill. They don't have the table side Cesar salad anymore which was still good about a month ago. Tonite was a disappointment. The service was slow. Ordered the Cesar salad and prime rib. Husband got the Cesar salad and NY strip. The salad was terrible. Leaves wilted and wet. Dressing tasted different. It was like salad you would get at a fast food place. Server asked how it was and I told her what was wrong and that was it. My prime rib was only warm and the quality was not good. The baked potatoes which are usually large and perfectly baked were dry and small. My husband's NY steak was just average. Our water glasses smelled bad. The server didn't seem to care even after we told her. They also charged us extra for the baked potato which clearly said it came with the prime rib on the menu. In fact I pointed this out to the server and she insisted it didn't even after I pointed it out. I think it was the whole experience. We were missing that usual special experience we got over the years. Very disappointed and now we don't know where else to go for good steaks or to bring family when they're visiting. Oh and no manager came to apologize or cared enough to stop by our table since I'm sure the server conveyed our disappointment. Oh another suggestion for the wait/kitchen staff- don't yell out the order is ready. I felt like I was at a diner. This used to be our go to restaurant for a great meal! Have not been for awhile and tonight it was disgusting! Tim the server was excellent! The food was horrible. Our meal took forever and they said they didn't see the ticket. I ordered the petite filet med rare. It came out well done. They took it back and brought me another. I cut into it and it was blue rare, it made me sick looking at it!! I gave up! I ate a few of the mashed potatoes. Watched my husband eat. They gave us a free dessert! Our bill was still $150. We were told to come back and they would comp our meal. With an evening like that who wants to come back, the meal should have been a no charge tonight! The manager should have come and talked to us as soon as she was made aware rather then us having to ask to speak to her. Food was good the last time, in the past it was great. Waiter we had was horrible. With the prices we were paying I expect better service. We had no drink refills, everything brought out at once then he was upset we didn't want desert. We paid for the salad at the table and everything seemed like it was what was left over.. oh I will add some more of this wilted lettuce, The lobster Mac and cheese was horrible tasted like the lobster had went bad. The lobster stunk and tasted foul. Steaks were done but were tough Potatoes were hard and under done. Had to add a bunch more toppings to make it edible. I left a message hoping they would at least call me back but nothing. I guess these days food is more expensive and bad experience. We had "Ryan" and he knocked it out of the park. Started with their signature Martini Cart and made right there at your table, (Gin of course) followed by arguably the best table side Caesar I have had.. Top it off by a perfectly cooked piece of chateaubriand! Right at $100.00 for the roast for two but included perfectly cooked Asparagus, Garlic Mashed potatoes and unbelievable Brussels Sprouts cut perfectly in half! Oh man. First of all I need to say I'm indecently full from this dinner. Like roll me out on a cart and put an IV in my arm full. Mrs Billy D surprised me with an overnighter to the Silver Reef Resort and Casino and Dinner at The Steak House. Calling it dinner is an insult actually. I might call it a brief stop in heaven for a dining experience I haven't had in a long time. I have to say this restaurant is worth dressing up for. The decor was tastefully done with perfect lighting to go with the dark wood. There is a wine rack that takes up an entire wall. The menu was simple with options for every taste. Mrs Billy D chose the 7oz filet mignon and crab stuffed shrimp. Okay whoever invented that little morsel has my approval. I had the 9 oz filet with a loaded baked potato. We shared a Caesar salad for two and a side of asparagus with Hollandaise. We both ordered medium rare and they were perfectly done. Our waiter was very helpful and did not hover but he was efficient and there when you needed him. He made a good wine pairing suggestion for Mrs Billy D and she was grateful. The filet I had was excellent. I probably could have cut it with a fork. I sliced it thin so it would last longer. I could not finish it all but I ate the entire filet which was the star of my meal. The asparagus was steamed and they used thinner stalks which were seasoned lightly with some sea salt. We really enjoyed our time there but all good things come to an end. If you sign up for Reef Rewards you can get 10% off dinner. We got out for $164 with a generous $30 tip. I don't mind laying out for an experience and service like that. Almost forgot one thing. We booked a suite which was also top shelf. The room (3 rooms actually) was nicely appointed with a complimentary beverage bar. There was a huge two person soaking/jacuzzi tub that took 20 minutes to fill but add in a bath bomb and the Mrs was off and running. My wife and her friends got the 7oz filet surf and turf with Fourteen Ounce, Cold Water Lobster Tail and Seared Diver Scallops in Brown Butter and creamy garlic mash potatoes! My buddy got the 16oz slow roasted prime rib with Yorkshire pudding ! The horseradish was awesome! Lots of delicious red wine ! A 1.5L bottle to be exact! and martinis to start! While attending a family reunion and ending our 15 HR drive from Northern California at the hotel, we were starving for an excellent dinner. Yes we were not dressed appropriately after a long trip and we had my 80 yr old blind, crippled mother with us and initially the hostess seemed like she didn't want to seat us. Then a fantastically warm welcoming gentleman walked up and treated us like royalty and was graciously sweet with my mother. On top of that the steak was the best I ever had. Totally recommend this restaurant not just for the excellent food but the welcoming staff for an elderly person who may not be able to eat with all the fancy etiquette as before but definitely wants a good meal. 5 stars! read more

You kinda lost a star not addressing that issue a bit better . It's the perfect fine dining restaurant tucked away in the corner of the casino (not smoky at all) and walking through the doors you feel transported into some other time. It's the classiest little restaurant, the ambiance welcomes you in and the friendly service of everyone who works there makes you want to stay. Absolutely order the table side Caesar Salad and say "yes" to the anchovies! My husband had the most flavorful prime rib and my filet was cooked to perfection. The Bearnaise sauce was in a food group all its own! And the dark chocolate truffles at the end can leave you wanting to come back the next day for more! Our server was Todd and he was the best. We had oyster Rockefeller for an app. Good quantity but too much spinach, little seasoning and almost no holandaise. The capers salad was the best dish we had. My prime rib was under cooked, cheery and stringy with sinew. Spinach dish was full of bacon which did not work for me. My wife's stuffed prawns looked great but tasted fishy. I have eaten a single meal here, which is a fond memory. I had made a reservation for myself as I use a power wheelchair and then seating was limited. I was greeted by a host who was delightful and escorted me to my table. I ordered a ny steak, French onion soup and salad. A bottle of Chateneuf de Pape was had as well. For the third time, my husband and I made reservations for the Steak House and the hotel for our anniversary, 54th this year. For the first time, the lobster, prime rib and wine were disappointing, the sides were no better than homemade, and the bread had hard crust. We didn't even try to eat the lobster and meat. I believe the lobster was a completely different type and overcooked. I don't know what affected the prime rib besides asking for medium and getting it rarer, than expected. The wine was in a smaller bottle than we are used to, from the cellar, and they had very limited options, which caused us to be left with a subpar selection. The latest reviews of the Steakhouse were quite mixed. It made me wonder if we should choose to spend our kid-free date night and money on dining here. New review 8/19/18 Came here last night and was super disappointed. Everything was off. First we were seated at a center table and asked to be moved to one of the 6 open booths and were told they were all reserved, which was BS because half of them sat empty. We had a reservation too, why couldn't we sit where we wanted. Then the hostess laughed in our faces. We ordered a bottle of wine which wasn't poured again after the initial pour. My water glass was empty mid-meal, so I drank off my husbands glass. We got our sides (asparagus and potatoes) served 5-7 minutes before our luke warm over cooked steaks. The service was abnormally lacking in almost every way. It was my birthday, which was mentioned in the reservation and there wasn't any acknowledgement. Will not be coming back here again. Not sure what happened since coming here in December but it's changed. 8 months ago (yelps timing says 2 months ago but that's when the manager commented on my review) Everything is perfect! The Caesar salad made at your table, rich lobster bisque so good it's a must try, great wine selection and perfect streaks. We arrived a bit early for our reservation and the hostess, Laura, told us that she Could seat us right away. We were seated in a booth. If you have not eaten here yet, the booths are high backed and very intimate. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here from beginning to end. Our waiter, Keith was exactly what you would expect and then some for a 5 star restaurant. He had a few tricks up his sleeve and was quite charming. I am not going to give too much away so if You are going for your first time, you will be surprised;) The food was incredible and got better with each course! The only issue we had was we left our credit card accidentally. Laura called us before we even had reached our car to let us know. My birthday dinner was held here. I had issues with going to a Casino for dinner. I have lost enough money in Casinos over the past years that I never wanted to go into another one ever again. Also, I am allergic to cigarette smoke. Finally, the company I used to work for would hold a meeting in Las Vegas every year that I worked there (18 years). So I am not a fan of casinos. Then the name 'the Steak House', while it is descriptive it doesn't say Quality. Boy, was I wrong! After entering and proving. I was over 21 (which I enjoyed). Then a brief walk to the Steakhouse passing lots of people working on machines and table games. BUT NO smoking!!! My date and I were seated in a high-backed booth near the kitchen. I enjoyed the view of the kitchen. The menu was impressive! So was the wine list (a book by any other name). We ordered a Rose' the wine sommelier was very pleasant and knowledgeable suggested a GREAT wine. Then it was time to order. It took us a while. So many options but in addition, it all looked do good. Our waiter explained how the pick the beef and how it is aged. We decided that we were either going to order nothing but appetizers or a steak. The appetizer menu was extensive and great. After a while we divided to order steaks. My date had the steak au povie ( pepper steak) and I ordered the ribeye, the steaks came with a choice of potato. We also ordered a side of grilled asparagus with bearnaise sauce. The steak au povier was incredible as was my Ribeye. Both are perfectly grilled. The grilled asparagus was incredible before the sauce was added. There were several 'doggy bags' as there was a great amount if food in addition to the food being of a very high quality. A surprising find as I don't often step foot in casinos and even more rarely to dine. This restaurant had such high marks I had to give it a try for a special birthday dinner. The choices for exceptional restaurants in Whatcom and Skagit County are limited (I'm used to the plethora of outstanding restaurants in Greater Seattle). We all were happy with our meals (steaks and fish). The service was professional. Atmosphere intimate. The only negative for us was the smoky casino aspect but we hurried in and out and made our hurrying part of the fun. Definitely recommended for a special dining experience. read more
