We've been coming here for over 15 years for special occasions. I believe it is one of the nicest steak houses within 100 miles. The food is always exceptional, which is met by true Steakhouse service. It has everything that you would expect from an incredible wine menu to a beautiful, intimate restaurant setting. Make a reservation early as it usually gets filled up quickly...

Rib Eye Steak Dinner - Dec. 2025

For 10+ years, a group us friends chose the Silver Reef Steakhouse for our annual Christmas dinner celebration as it had, by far, the best steaks & service in Whatcom County. This year sadly, we noticed considerable changes. First, the menu changed and some loved items that were previously on this menu are no longer there. Cream corn was a favorite; salmon entree was removed. The rib eye steak increased from $45 to $67 and was not the same quality, as you can see in this years picture it lacked the marbling & topping that was and should always be present. The baked potato was now an additional $4 charge when it previously was included as a potato choice at no extra charge. What I so loved about this restaurant was the little things that made your dining experience so unforgettable. No more complimentary crab spread pate with crackers; no more caesar salad made at your table by the servers. Sadly to say, we received oily caesar salads lacking cesar dressing; which we returned. No more lifting the covers off your steaks at the table, by the servers, when your steaks arrived. The amount of dessert options drastically decreased. I was grateful to see the palate cleanser of champagne & I believe sorbet, was still served. I understand increases take place but with the increase in prices, I would have hoped these extras still existed.

Went here for a rare fancy dinner between myself and my partner. Dinner was amazing, and the service was also incredible. Everyone was so kind and accommodating and the food came out at a perfect pace, all cooked and/or prepared fantastically. The ambiance was also cozy but classy. You forgot you were in a casino!

Ok, this place is fantastic! Compared to places like Mastros, Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Chandler's, this is a notch Above! The service is as expected at this level of dinning! We had "Ryan" and he knocked it out of the park. Started with their signature Martini Cart and made right there at your table, (Gin of course) followed by arguably the best table side Caesar I have had.. Top it off by a perfectly cooked piece of chateaubriand! Right at $100.00 for the roast for two but included perfectly cooked Asparagus, Garlic Mashed potatoes and unbelievable Brussels Sprouts cut perfectly in half! If you don't mind spending good money on good food like us, you'll live this place!

Oh man. First of all I need to say I'm indecently full from this dinner. Like roll me out on a cart and put an IV in my arm full. Mrs Billy D surprised me with an overnighter to the Silver Reef Resort and Casino and Dinner at The Steak House. Calling it dinner is an insult actually. I might call it a brief stop in heaven for a dining experience I haven't had in a long time. I have to say this restaurant is worth dressing up for. The decor was tastefully done with perfect lighting to go with the dark wood. There is a wine rack that takes up an entire wall. The menu was simple with options for every taste. Mrs Billy D chose the 7oz filet mignon and crab stuffed shrimp. Okay whoever invented that little morsel has my approval. I had the 9 oz filet with a loaded baked potato. We shared a Caesar salad for two and a side of asparagus with Hollandaise. We both ordered medium rare and they were perfectly done. Our waiter was very helpful and did not hover but he was efficient and there when you needed him. He made a good wine pairing suggestion for Mrs Billy D and she was grateful. The filet I had was excellent. I probably could have cut it with a fork. I sliced it thin so it would last longer. I could not finish it all but I ate the entire filet which was the star of my meal. The asparagus was steamed and they used thinner stalks which were seasoned lightly with some sea salt. We really enjoyed our time there but all good things come to an end. If you sign up for Reef Rewards you can get 10% off dinner. We got out for $164 with a generous $30 tip. I don't mind laying out for an experience and service like that. Almost forgot one thing. We booked a suite which was also top shelf. The room (3 rooms actually) was nicely appointed with a complimentary beverage bar. There was a huge two person soaking/jacuzzi tub that took 20 minutes to fill but add in a bath bomb and the Mrs was off and running. Mama did some gambling before and after dinner and she had a good time which pleased me. I love to see a smile on her face. That's all for now. Catch you on the flip. Billy D has left the building......

Shame on me for waiting until the last minute to book--but the availability should have been the real warning. The evening began with a fundamental misstep in pacing. The Caesar salad arrived with the main course, collapsing any sense of progression or structure to the meal. We also had to ask for bread--something that, on prior visits, arrived promptly with the wine. This time, the bread appeared only after both salad and entrée were already on the table. The server apologized for the delay, explaining they had to "make more." What arrived, however, was plainly sliced, cold bread--hardly something that required production time. The chicken marsala itself was a study in restraint--mostly empty plate, punctuated by a small, overcooked piece of chicken. Dry and lifeless, it was buried beneath a heavy mushroom gravy and paired with thick, gluey polenta that leaned more toward paste than comfort food. Balance was nowhere to be found. The Caesar salad offered little redemption. Greens that should have been cold and crisp were limp and tepid, while the croutons provided chew instead of crunch. These are foundational details, and when the basics falter, everything else feels off. Poor service compounded the lackluster experience. The staff appeared frantic and inexperienced, creating an atmosphere of disorganization rather than hospitality. Timing was off, attention inconsistent, and the overall rhythm of service never settled. Dining out--especially on a holiday meant for indulgence--should feel intentional. This meal felt rushed, underwhelming, and oddly careless. Between the meager portions, poorly executed dishes, awkward timing, and chaotic service, the evening landed squarely in disappointment.

There is definitely at least one back room, but the main dining room is a bright, airy space that has access to a patio where may even be some live music playing. The tables are gorgeous - all live edge, which might create a bit of an issue if you have short arms and are used to stealing bites across the table, but they are absolutely beautiful and a nice nod to the area. The wine list is extensive and a bit overwhelming, but the service is happy, friendly, and very knowledgeable. In fact, I love when servers don't know, admit it, and find the answer for you - it's humble and shows they really care at getting you what you want. We got the orange wine, which is a new favorite of mine. It's like a rose for reds. Rose:White::Orange:Red. More savory, still light, and best chilled. We had the beet hummus app, which is definitely best eaten with your hands. It's light and delicious. We had the miso black cod, a personal favorite, and the lasagna for dinner and while both were good, the accoutrements with the cod were the true standout. Amazing and I could probably eat two of them. As the restaurant operates on a seasonal menu, we had a strawberry rhubarb cobbler for dessert. I know there is Sunday Brunch, and I can't wait to try it. It's not the cheapest, but it's one of the nicer restaurants in Whatcom, and is definitely worth your pennies. Everything about it makes for a truly nice experience, and we'll definitely be back.
