I've heard great things about the cocktails at Redlight but I chose to just get a soda water with lime... delicious as always ! I ordered the chilled sweet and sour potato and was very disappointed. $17 for what I got was insane. It was just a few slivers of potato and carrot on top of cold vermicelli. I loved the decor and atmosphere, but it was a very underwhelming experience for me. I'll definitely give it another try and give something else a try. This place definitely has its ups and downs. Yes, the food is good as long as they don't overcook their wontons or noodle dishes. Their drinks are spectacular, but a bit pricey for what you get. And the ambiance is great, but the noise level drowns it out. read more

Fun, lively place with great food. We showed up at 5 on a Sunday and the place was already almost full - we were seated at the bar and then moved to a table. Both seating options were nice and allowed us to be around people while still being able to hear our dining companions. Extensive cocktail menu of well crafted and interesting cocktails. A mocktail menu of equally well crafted cocktails is also available upon request. We tried a variety of flavorful dishes. The hot noodles are particularly delicious - a comfort food like dish that is spicy and satisfying and plentiful. The crispy salt and pepper tofu is also delicious - a satisfying crunch and a soft inside. We also tried the crispy eggplant bao which I probably wouldn't get again, but it was definitely pretty and hardy. I'd definitely go by again next time I'm in Bellingham! read more

It was a great New Year's Eve dinner here! It was a packed house tonight but we decided to brave the crowds and wait 45 min for our table (we were actually quoted 1.5 hr so that was a nice surprise.) Highlights to me were the fresh snap pea crunch and hot noodles. They use their special chili oil which is so flavorful and delicious! 1. Fresh snap pea crunch 5/5 - delicious light salad with pieces of snap peas and water chestnuts mixed with a sesame dressing and chili oil 2. Crispy eggplant bao 4.5/5 - I loved how fluffy the bao was but the eggplant inside was a tad salty. I liked the crispy texture and cilantro/pickled radish they add 3. Hot noodles 5/5 - The wheat noodles are so delicious in the chili oil sauce. We opted for adding the pork belly which was a nice crispy and savory addition. However, I actually think the noodles would've been perfect on their own too. 4. Rib eye steak (NYE special) 4/5 - too buttery which made us feel very heavy afterwards 5. The atmosphere is cool and well decorated. The service was friendly and helpful. The food was utterly amazing. We tried the ribs, chicken wings and rice chips for starters. The sauces were all amazing and all cooked to perfection. The rice chips, freshly made, were so surprisingly good. Chose this spot as it said it was open until 2am... it isn't. It is open (at least on the Saturday we attended) until 12am. Just be aware of that before going. The place was packed and thus there were no tables left, so we sat at the front window bar area, which was cozy and just fine for us. The atmosphere is quite nice and very intimate. I could see it being romantic if it weren't so packed. Our cocktails were all delicious. They had so many enticing options, it was honestly very hard to choose. The food was good as well, which was like an asian fusion vibe. Like, we got the cold potato noodles which had chili oil and were very dan dan noodle-esque. The crispy tofu was AMAZING. When we go to Bellingham next I would be happy to stop in for a night cap. read more

Holly was our drinkmaster extraordinaire, and Catie was our divine inspiration and helpmate, making fabulous suggestions for us. We enjoyed the frisee salad with wonderful lightly picked peach, crispy eggplant bao, the fabulous pork and shrimp dumplings (complete with lacy edges), and the complex-flavored amazing sweet potato noodles. The creamy panna cotta was a perfect finish to the pickled, savory flavor of the noodles. I had two mocktails of Holly's invention, the Black Mirror being the most amazing mocktail I've ever had. OK I'll cut to the chase here - two words: PORK BELLY! Seriously, the pork belly here is to DIE for! It is perfectly seared into a crispy shell on the outside, and super tender on the inside. The combination with the noodles were just incredible. Honestly I would eat an entire vat of just the pork belly if I could. The chili oil dumplings were decent - not the best I've had but they were still good. Drinks were amazing and creative, especially the earl grey infused one. This place is amazing. From their drinks to their food the flavors just keep coming and coming. We started out with the BAO buns, pickle's and eggs, and Szechuan Cucumbers and they were delicious! Went on to 3 different orders of their wontons which were amazing with deep flavors and just the right amount. The drinks are inventive and very very tasty. The had a tasty Elk Street Lager on tap and their take on a Penicillin is called The Amnesiac. This is now my favorite drink I have ever had. When we arrived it was crowded but the crew moved people around and made room for us! We were quickly seated without a reservation and the service was amazing. Our server was quick to meet any of our requests, and provided great recommendations. Let's talk about the real star of the show though - the food. Holy smokes, everything was seasoned perfectly and had amazing flavor. The standouts for us were the cucumber salad, fried pork ribs, wings and the eggplant bao. I could seriously eat just an entire bowl of the cucumber salad. It was incredible. The food here is always amazing -- we dine at Red Light regularly and usually leave impressed. Tonight, though, was different. We came to celebrate my birthday with seven friends (party of nine) and started dinner at 6:30pm. Dinner was fantastic, as usual. Everyone enjoyed two cocktails each, and by the time we closed our dinner tab around 8:30pm, everything was smooth sailing. A few people left, leaving six of us to linger for a couple more drinks (with one designated driver). Around 8:30-9:30pm, the five of us who were still drinking ordered another round and were enjoying ourselves -- just conversation, laughter, nothing wild. By 9:30pm, the restaurant had emptied out -- only two people at the bar and one table still seated in a booth. Despite the quiet, there were still three staff behind the bar, a couple servers, and visible kitchen staff. In other words: plenty of people working, no reason for slow service. Yet, getting anyone's attention suddenly became a challenge. When our waitress -- the one in the black lace top -- finally came over, my husband ordered five shots for the group. I mentioned I'd prefer a cocktail, but she wouldn't let me order one "until after the shots." Odd rule, but fine. The issue? She vanished afterward and didn't return until after 10pm -- a solid half hour later. When she finally reappeared, I asked what time they closed, even though I already knew. "Midnight," she said, "last call's at 11:30." Yet somehow, just being there a little past 10pm felt like we were crashing their staff meeting. The entire mood shifted -- cold, dismissive, and clearly done with us. I eventually got to order my birthday cocktail, but any sense of celebration had evaporated. The waitress was short, barely made eye contact, and dropped the drink off with the check tossed on the table immediately after -- the universal signal for please leave. For the record: not one of us was intoxicated. We'd each had about four cocktails spread over four hours, hardly excessive -- especially for grown adults, some of whom are large men and responsible drinkers. Yes, we're naturally loud talkers, but that doesn't justify being treated like an inconvenience. By the end of the night, the service had gone from warm to ice-cold, completely killing the vibe of what had been a lovely birthday dinner. Red Light, your night staff can -- and should -- do better. We would've happily left a 30-40% tip to make it worth their while which we have done in the past . (we've all worked in service at some point in our lives and we get it), but this time, the tip reflected the service...... and that's definitely on them. I'm sure they will bitch about us to their friends, but look in the mirror cause you could have made an hour wage off the tip and that's on you. read more
