Dark, old-school speakeasy ambiance, equally traditional old school drinks, local taps and some creative surprises (ask about the frozè) await you at Southside, the slightly more fun/less spartan big brother to Jack's (in downtown B-ham). Unusual snacks and sharables round out their simple menu, including a selection of tinned fishes with crackers, spicy nuts, pickle plates, and warm Brie with apples and bread. Fun and yummy, but this is not a restaurant; it's a cocktail bar, so not really a dinner option for most tastes. They get extra points for having the now-rare and much maligned cocktail onion, and even a savory cocktail (The Businessman's Lunch) that features it as a garnish. I love a good Gibson, too, and these savory cocktails with the pickled onion pair well with the fish snacks on their menu. Nicely done! Prices are high, but the excellent, exacting cocktails and upbeat, attentive service makes it a worthy splurge for a little celebration. Recommended! read more

I was a patron of this bar for one beer with two friends. One of us wanted to smoke so we all went outside. We decided to try another place when we had an issue with the Uber driver finding us. A short Irish man named Chris pulled up and parked in the loading zone. He made a comment about my friend being tall and gestured towards wanting to fight. He also said if he lost a fight he would find out where we were from and do us in. We thought he was joking so we went inside to figure out the Uber situation. We then found out that we were cut off. How appalling after one drink. Chris is a terrible influence and shouldn't have any affiliation. I will never come back. read more

Bar operating comfortably despite all Covid restrictions that are enforced. Has outside seating and inside booths. Cocktail menu is quiet diverse , service is fast , courteous . Wow. The service here is amazing. This is my first time coming to Southside bar and the outside seating was perfect and relaxing. Despite being by the street I didn't even notice! The waiter was super cute, and I never know what to order so he made me one of his favorites and let me tell you, it was incredible. I have mixed feelings. I guess that means I might have to go back to give it one last try. I walked in and found a booth, no acknowledgement, bar tender and server at the bar talking, I was completely ignored. There are cute little signs at the table that tell you to order at the bar, I just didn't know you had to go to the bar to be acknowledged. The service wasn't welcoming. I got the feeling that if you came in and ordered a drink or left, they didn't care one way or another. I had questions about their drink menu, but the bar tender said it was his second shift, wasn't sure of all the drinks and were out of a lot of the ingredients. Uhm. I asked for him to create something and told him the kind of drinks I liked. He concocted a drink that was actually pretty good. Not worth the $9, though. Bar food menu didn't look very exciting and I'm not an oyster person. I liked the atmosphere inside, but not likely to return. read more

We were so excited when we saw this new oyster bar pop up down the street, and Southside Bar didn't disappoint. The 1950s Rat Pack aesthetic definitely makes it stand out from the 1920s-themed Galloway's and 1960s tiki bar vibe of Swim Club. The price point is a little higher than Redlight (possibly the best craft cocktails in Bham), but the roasted oysters and baked Camembert go perfectly with Southside's classic cocktails, and the portions are generous. The biggest surprise was the tomato-feta-and-anchovy sandwich; I don't even like roasted tomatoes and I loved this dish. They're still working some kitchen timing things out, but the service was solid and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Although the crowd seemed to be comprised mostly of mid- to late-career working professionals and posh retirees vacationing for the weekend, everyone seemed welcome and comfortable. Only things missing: we couldn't find a menu online, and there doesn't appear to be a happy hour, unlike most of our other favorite cocktail spots. Odds are, both will be available soon, since they just opened. We're absolutely adding this unique bar to our cocktail hour rotation. read more

Finally...OPEN! Lovely day to sit outside. My friend & I didn't realize there are only 3 items to pick from to eat....but no fear! She had the meatballs which were INCREDIBLE. I had the sardines which are served with 3 sauces...one is NOT ketchup...beware if you don't enjoy hot! Server was adorable & knowledgeable...& slammed as he was the only one on until 6pm. Definitely a return in our travels up to Bellingham. Wide choice of gins if you are an afficinado. But they need to add Ophir for a great botanical. read more

This place is so awesome, it's relatively new with really fun snacks and drinks if you're looking for somewhere to grab a bite to hold you over for the evening. The bartenders are super knowledgeable and make excellent drinks! I had their white Negroni and it was delicious. They also carry some wines and beers that all look super yummy! read more

I recently visited the new Southside bar in Fairhaven. It's a beautiful vintage bar with great atmosphere. Friendly but not overbearing staff.... they offer the most delicious Craft cocktails in Bellingham and have bar nibbles, fresh and roasted oysters on the weekends and I love the vintage photo booth!! ......looking forward to many returns. read more
