The blue abode bar went above and beyond hosting me and my friends for my birthday. We took a class at the local Pilates studio and just wanted some easy bites and cocktails afterwards. I had a few places in mind but they weren't really accommodating. When I stumbled upon the blue abode, I sent them an email. They were so quick to respond and offered to make me a custom drink menu, along with custom food options off the menu. They opened an hour early for us!!! I'm so grateful to them for all of their help in celebrating me and accommodating my friends. Will absolutely be dining here again, already can't wait to go back. Highly highly recommend. The owner is a total ingrate to customers. Didn't even send me a thank you (or even SAY IT) when I donated several hundred dollars to a donation she started for a former employee. Ingrate owner sent me a nasty lecturing email after I called out a waitress for not serving me pretzels after just playing with her phone for a 30 minute interval. Queen of ingrate sanctimony! (I support your employees more then you do, ingrate Kate, judging how much money you donated to your own employee vs how much I did. But if someone is going to watch TikTok for 30 minutes rather than serve me the overpriced $6 bowl of pretzels that cost $5 for an entire pack at Haggen that's a 2 minute walk away -- I have a right to say something!) It goes without saying that the owner sets the minimum tip as 25% on her POS system. What ingrate presumption! (.. and of course I exceeded that, every single time I went in, which also went unacknowledged and unthanked by the ingrate owner) Two diverse friends of mine reported this ingrate was patronizing down to them as well--we feel it's a hostile environment to males of all ethnicities. In all the years I've been in Bellingham, I've never been here. It's intimate and small, with great drinks and a decent food selection for light bites. As I'm ancient and love the Oldies (read: music from the 80s/90s), the sound selection was also to my liking. Four of us walked in, had drinks, chatted, and it was lovely. The daily drink special wasn't my cup of tea, but the happy hour deals were pretty awesome so we partook. The drinks are pretty reasonably priced and there were two TVs playing a fireplace, and then some sort of fun X games show. I wouldn't recommend it for big groups, or if you're really hungry. The menu is a lot more light apps and smaller things, and the space IS small. But it is absolutely perfect for a date night or to catch up with an old friend. read more

As a used-to-be Bellingham local, this place was new to me! I quite enjoyed their cheap late night menu and selection, and the coconut margarita was to die for! The ambiance was lovely, but definitely a small place! The outdoor seating is a nice touch as well. The servers were especially nice in general, but when a drunk customer was a bit out of line they came to the rescue and handled the situation appropriately. I'll be back! I'm not sure where to start with this one. I have been to the Adobe prior to new ownership and always had a pleasant experience, but today was probably one of the worst service experiences to date my husband and I have ever had in a bar setting. We arrived around 2, deciding to get an early drink along with an appetizer. I walked in and immediately had to turn around to yell at my husband to retrieve their outdoor umbrella which was blowing down the sidewalk. After sitting down we were asked what we'd like. I needed more time, and a menu and was able to place an order after about 15 min of waiting. Again this place was empty. 20 minutes passed, my drink order was completely forgotten, "literally." The bartender forgot what I ordered. So I politely repeated my drink request that was to be made. He quickly got too it, but then left it sitting behind the bar. Forgotten again! Also, the place is still empty. I got up to retrieve my drink, which the bartender realized he had left sitting on the backside of bar. He seemed very dis-organized, but we were trying to be patient and let it go. It then went completely downhill after my first sip of the drink and I realized he had forgotten to put alcohol in it!!! We are now almost 45 min into this adventure. Since we were playing cards and having a laid back afternoon both my husband and I initially tried to let all of these little blunders go. Along with the weird food order which came out disheveled, it was too late to do so. Needless to say, we will not be returning. Maybe the bartender was having a bad day? Not sure...just sad that one server can sour the overall quality and reputation of an establishment. read more

Tucked into a tiny spot in hoppin' Barkley Village, The Blue Abode is one of the newest entries on the Bham cocktail scene. They boast tasty craft cocktails, a nice selection of craft taps, and a pub-style menu of sandwiches, soups, and salads. This is the type of place I walk into and say to myself "I could be a regular here" because it's cozy and the service is super friendly. There's plenty of seating at the bar, a few tables, and even a small patio in front where you can watch the Barkley happenings along the sidewalk. While it's not a great spot for a large group, that's what makes it more special and intimate. At night the lighting is chill and makes a nice mood - would be a GREAT spot for a date! read more

Cute, quaint, and cozy. This new bar is worth checking out, and the word is spreading fast; as it kept getting busier and people kept coming in. The place is small; seats at the bar, about 5 tables, and a small loveseat to also sit at. Loved that they had hooks under the bar to hang your purse! Self serve water station, and lots of drink options. They also have a limited food menu for small bites. Wishing they had Bud Light; I wasn't a fan of their beer selections and could have better food options. It said they had free bar snacks with drinks, but never saw any and was not offered any. I ordered the Mount Baker Raz Lemmon Drop - ladies....this is a MUST try. It was delicious! Probably one of the BEST drinks on the menu. I did feel some drinks were too pricy, didn't taste much alcohol, and food menu could be better. Service was super friendly; they had two people, Kurk, the owner and another bartender. Both very friendly, shook hands with customers, tried to remember first names, etc, but need to be a little more outgoing. Happy Hour until 5:30pm, good music playing, and would be a great place to stop in for a drink to either begin or end your evening. oung bartender, I'm 54 and got carded...no issue. We were on bicycles and came over for a quick cocktail before 8 pm. We saw a few friends and were laughing when we ordered and were refused service. Seriously. If this is the new ownership in our neighborhood bar then I encourage everyone to not come here. Ridiculous. I also have my MAST card and bartend. This place is amazing. Totally made it safe for me to start venturing out in the world again. Set up the umbrella and music outside for me. This is a cute, small, groovy bar in the Barkley Village area. Their cocktail menu is outstanding. If I had to vote just on cocktails alone I would give five stars. I had the Melon Berry Lemonade and look out! Those things are dangerously delicious! However I was also looking for more of a food destination as well, and this left a bit to be desired. The menu consists of sandwiches, salads, and soup. This seems very typical for bars in Bellingham - they just don't serve a hot menu. However for drinks and atmosphere this place gets two thumbs up! With Lou Reed and the Pixies playing in the background, who can go wrong? Very small place however, with a total of four - four person tables and the bar. Came here just past happy hour which is a great time as the place was packed, but emptied over the next hour. Incredible drinks!!! Absolutely loved the Pink Basil Sour! My friends ordered the Bucha Hoocha which was also deemed amazing!!! We also shared the BELL-m-HAM cheese plate. Huge plate of great selections at an amazing price of $16.50. Ended with the Belling-HAM salad which was less than amazing but still good. My colleague ordered the grilled cheese and red pepper tomato salad. Great place and atmosphere! Definitely recommend this place - just keep in mind seating is limited to 5 tables and a bar. read more

It's nice to see another little bar in the Barkley area but my first impression was just meh. The cocktails we had tasted good but were very weak. It is somewhat cozy but the bar stools were not very comfortable and the bar set up seemed a bit cluttered. To be honest I struggle even giving them a 3 star review but they are new and hopefully will work out some of the kinks. I'll definitely give them another chance but if I'm gonna pay 10 plus dollars for a cocktail I'll probably go up the way to Scotty Browns. read more

The Blue Abode is a lovely little bar in recently renovated Barkley Village. Small and warm and stuffed with young patrons, it makes a few mean drinks--a sweet Pink Basil Sour, a distinctive Rittenhouse Manhattan, and their signature Blue Martini. Pub mix and grilled cheese sandwiches are the popular fare for appetizers and quite popular. Servers are busy, but friendly and outgoing. A neat place for a drink or two with accessible parking in the village parking lot and on the street. One caveat, though: be aware that at 7:00 PM on the third Saturday of every month the Happy Hour crowd will be charged a $5.00 per person cover charge for the comedy show which isn't made clear by adequate signage nor by the servers.
