It has been a long time since I have revisited the Bavaria restaurant. Not because the experience was bad, but rather because it was a little expensive for my liking and the portions were not much. However, when I came back again after all this time, I realized that you pay for quality food and fine dining. When I arrived, I was given a table right away and was served water. I ordered the 6-ounce Beef Wellington, which I never had before anywhere. Prior to my entrée, I was given a small hamburger soup and a piece of garlic bread for an appetizer. It was a solid good warm-up for what was to come. The entrée came with vegetables and potato of choice that I chose mashed potatoes. The vegetables were surprisingly good, while the mashed potatoes were flourishing with flavour. The wellington came with a béarnaise sauce and demi-glace, and they were fantastic condiments to help compliment the entrée. The wellington itself was great; it was cooked medium-rare, which was recommended by the waitress Danielle, the beef steak was juicy and delectable while the pastry part stands out with its mushroom aioli in flavour. The service was excellent, and I commend their positive efforts. The interior of the restaurant is traditional, yet very classy and mildly lit, which I like in a restaurant. Overall, the Bavaria restaurant is an outstanding establishment with that is very much worth your interest. I hope to come back there very soon. read more

Must try items : Their famous "BAVARIA GOULASH SOUP" if you feel you haven't had enough you can also bring some home as they do sell them by the litres..thats how good they are!! Appetizers are also a great way to savour different items when visiting as a group, if they have Lamb lollipops order them!! Fresh oysters are seasonal..just ask the server! I also love their Schnitzel dishes, and other German inspired items..as I find German cuisine being more and more hard to find in Vancouver nowadays! My wife & I went for dinner after making reservations, we were seated quickly, then had a bit of a wait to order anything. I had a mango mojito my wife have a limoncello gin fizz to drink, they were delicious, The appys we ordered were the garlic prawns And the lobster bake they were very delayed in showing up almost 30 mins after they were ordered. We think the garlic prawns could have been a bit bigger for the price as they were good but the portion was quite small. The lobster bake was not really enough lobster but very tasty. Overall they were both very yummy but the size was just a bit small. For our mains we had 12 oz prime rib with garlic mash and jus My wife had the filet mignon with seafood risotto Both came with seasonal veggies The steaks were perfectly cooked the prime rib melted in your mouth. The garlic mash was ok. The jus was very salty and tasted like it wasn't house made but did what was needed. The filet was beautifully cooked, the seafood risotto was fantastic, seasoned well pumped full of sea food and topped with prawns. The service was quite good even though our server was quite busy she was attentive enough to have an enjoyable evening, and other then the speed of the appetizers all was in good time. Food is excellent but dont get the Oysters. A year ago they were great. Now it's rather insulting. You cant find the Oyster. Its not a matter of they are coming small. I sent my empty shells filled with hollandaise and spinach back and when the next ones came I had an oyster (sure it was because they had to as I complained) it had a slice mark and my next Oyster with it was I am sure the tiny piece that had been sliced off the first one. Not sure what the issue is but rather have them say seasonal or not available then to dice them to the point you cant find them lol. The Manager at the time solution was telling me not to order them anymore. I responded with clearly but perhaps take them off menu. This was the third time they were empty. Seafood rissotto is excellent and service is as well. Beware of empty Oyster shells!! read more

This was my second time at Bavaria. It was okay. The first time was about 6.5 years ago. It was just as okay back then, too. I was with two others. We went to Bavaria because one of us says that it is the only place that serves lobster the way that they like it. We got there just before 5 (it was a Sunday--they open at 4:30 on Sundays), and we almost did not get a table, as so many tables had been "reserved." Somebody working there thought hard and figured that we could get away with using one. The service was okay. One of us had the French onion soup--they eat French onion soup all the time, and they expressed that it was too salty. The lobster did not disappoint, but the lobster-eater's receiving of half a piece of garlic toast (which is "one" order of garlic toast) did. My prime rib was disappointing a little bit. I asked for blue rare, and only parts of it were as close to that as medium rare. But it was still prime rib, and only parts of it were as dry as burnt toast, so it was okay. My veggies were okay, the rice was okay, the gravy was okay, and the horseradish was okay. I am giving three stars because the lobster was a success, and that was a very important part of our mission. I want to give two stars because the assistant/bus person who grabbed the cash asked if we needed change back (I give better scores when whoever takes the money automatically states that they will be back with the change). We left just before 6. About half of the restaurant's tables still had "reserved" signs on them--but no people at them; nevertheless, I am certain that the experience would have still been just as okay at a better table. read more

This was the first place my husband and I chose to have a dine-out date night since Covid restrictions. Wow! Was I happy we did. The drinks, appies and dinners were delicious. We were to stuffed to enjoy any dessert and even brought doggy bags of dinner home for lunch the next day. We were well fed! I tried two martinis and they were delicious. The peach was my favourite, but the strawberry cheesecake was flavourful, too. We had the mushroom caps and scallops and bacon appetizers and they were definitely yummy. The soup and garlic toast were nice treats before the mains. My husband had a steak and I chose the chicken Oscar and really enjoyed the sauce and plentiful amount of shrimp on top. Went for dinner with a couple friends to Bavaria. I had spent a considerable amount of time drooling over the menu online and was excited to try this place out. Its best to make a reservation because they can get pretty busy. I loved the atmosphere of the place. Cozy chairs in the middle with a fire place. Dark wood with a dramatic feel. The waitress was really nice and attentive. We started with some wine - they have a great selection! My husband's Cesar was a little lacking he said - didn't taste like anything but clamato. My friend started with the mussels - i'm not a huge mussel fan but wow these were amazing! I had the Jeagar Schnitzel which is topped with mushrooms and gravy. I asked for a side of spaetzle. It was awesome. The schnitzel was moist and cooked perfectly. I loved the spaetzle, it was a little different than what i've had before and it was great. Our whole table enjoyed their meals. Our favourite dinner spot for sure! We always start with the Garlic Cheese Bread which is loaded with 3 cheeses and thick toast. Mmmmm My dinner is ALWAYS the Prawn Dinner. I'm spoiled with its 9 big juicy prawns, amazing buttery mashed potatoes and sautéed peppers, onions and green beans! His is Barbecue chicken with the same potatoes and veggies and he loooooves it as well. The goulash and garlic bread is complementary and so tasty!! The service is good but it gets busy fast. The Staff was excellent very attentive and always ready to help out, a very family oriented business with them all working there. Atmosphere was pretty neat and had a real comfortable relaxing feel that made you want to hang around. Went with another couple - not one plate was not cleaned and everyone extremely enjoyed the food. I have a few other items on the menu I had my eye on and will be back for sure to try them next time. I have eaten at this exceptional family owned 3rd generation German restaurant now a few times. When I'm away at work for a week or two at a time, my mind brings me back to their fabulous Prime Rib. Listed on the menu are 8 and 12 Oz slices but.....what for it.....you can have any size You want. The staff which are all family and friends tempted me with a 40oz but I settled on a 16 Oz medium rare. The Husband is the chief and the wife commands out front. The menu is traditional German fare with some great seafood choices also to choose from. The atmosphere is cozy...maybe a little dark in areas but overall the place has a WOW factor that will draw you back. read more

Service was weird. They were concerned about even seating us at 5:30 b/c they had a reservation for the table in an hour and a half. But they did seat us, then forgot to take our entree orders for 20 minutes or so. Just before 7:00, two staff members came over and told us we'd have to leave, even though we hadn't gotten our desserts yet. Then the waitress came over and said, "No, no, you're good." She was nice, but got some of the orders wrong. And she was constantly singing. Food was mostly good. I got the Bavarian Steak, it was drenched in garlic butter. Might be more accurate to say that the garlic butter had some steak in it. Fries and veg were very good. Apple crumble dessert was worse than what you get at Save-On. We had a table by the wall and were very cold (it was FREEZING outside). Decor inside was really nice, I'd definitely try them again, with more specific instructions and if I got a table by the fireplace. Prices were very reasonable. Lots of interesting items on the menu. The three stars is with a lot having gone wrong. I'm optimistic that most people's experiences would be quite a bit better. This place has a lot going for it. read more

Came here on a invitation for a birthday dinner. Staff very friendly and prompt. 14 of us most ordered appy's. I ordered mussels. Not good, small shells and the broth was so sour with lemons I wouldn't finish it. Not to mention the 'half' piece of non toasted white beard it came with. I mean really? With the meal, they serve what they call Goulash soup. I would call it ground beef in tomato liquid. It had no resemblance to Goulash soup at all. Main course was schnitzel with snow crab, shrimp and Bernaise ( spelling?) sauce. Schnitzel was good, CANNED crab gross, sauce is packaged, came with fried potatoes average and red cabbage. The red cabbage was so sweet I couldn't eat it. The leaf garnish looked like it sat under a heat lamp for most of the day. All in all I won't be back. I hate giving this place one star because the food was tasty. The service, on the other hand, was not!!! Our waters came and it tasted strange to both my friend and I. Almost salty. We asked the waitress for new water and she didn't apologize but argued with us before she brought fresh waters... we get fresh ice every day, it's probably just because it's Abbotsford water, etc. etc. Then when my meal came, I had ordered the Bavarian schnitzel (with hollandaise and shrimp on top), and it was supposed to come with the standard potatoes and red cabbage. Well I get my meal and it was my schnitzel with steamed veggies on the side. Great, but that's not what I ordered! Again the waitress, instead of apologizing and remedying the situation, argued with me. Apparently she put Bavarian schnitzel with no potatoes and extra veg into the computer so that's what I ordered??? Um, NO that's not what I ordered and if it was what I ordered, then where is my red cabbage? And, I do not eat peppers, which was largely what the steamed veggies was comprised of. She finally brought me potatoes on the side, no offer for red cabbage, but my friend didn't want hers so I took it. Nothing was taken off my bill. If I wasn't so tired because it took so long for dinner, then I would have asked to speak to the manager. I cannot believe I tipped.
