Love this optometrist- I came the first month they were open and keep coming back. Dr. Walton and her staff very friendly and don't try and push you to buy extra bells and whistles on your contacts or glasses like some of my eye doctors have in the past. The interior of her practice is also adorable and has a cool vibe. They have a great selection of glasses as well. Definitely recommend this place for anyone who needs glasses or contacts. Update: Cant say enough about how awesome Dr. Walton and her staff are. My mom was visiting from out of town and developed a very painful eye infection. Came in needing a glasses adjustment because my glassses have been bent out of shape for almost a year due to careless mishaps and I came into see Flor who readjusted my glasses very nicely and in a timely manner. She also managed to maintain the cleanliness of the place by constantly wiping down used surfaces. Sweet girl. I would recommend Heights Optometry ANYTIME to ANYONE. The office is very welcoming. Dr. Walton has done an amazing job of creating an inviting space. Whether it is the donuts and coffee or the smiles on the faces of everyone in the office, I felt right at home. I'm so glad I asked my coworkers for a referral and ended up here. Everyone on the staff was genuinely nice to me from the moment I walked in the door. They save paper by using laminated forms that they then scan into records. I appreciated having water and coffee in the waiting area and the decor was an unexpected treat. Such a cute place! The best part by far was Dr. Walton, who was at once professional and laid back. Playful even. She took extra time to answer my questions thoroughly and explained things in a way that I understood but was not at all condescending. She also has a hilarious sense of humor and the best laugh! My experience here has been by far the absolute best. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. I came in for an eye exam and new contact lenses. As a first time contact wearer they helped me put my contacts in and out, since I had no idea what I was doing. They called me to make sure I was happy with my contacts and made sure that if I needed any adjusting they would be more than happy to help me again. Dr. Walton was just as amazing! I had the best experience at Heights Optometry! From the extremely friendly front office staff and my exam by Dr. Schaffner, who was just wonderful. They also spent a lot of time with me picking out just the right glasses for me. They had to shut down the office not long after my appointment, and they even delivered them directly to my door with the promise to reach out when they reopened to do any adjustments I may need. Dr. Walton and her team are awesome! Dr. Walton is so knowledgeable and provided insight that no other optometrist have shared with me (particularly about my dry eyes). Her equipment is new and top of the line. She doesn't use the old school "air puff" for glaucoma testing. Her team was so helpful and patient as I was very indecisive about selecting a pair of glasses. The girls recommended I take my time, take pictures, and sleep on it. Loved my experience at Heights Optometry. Everyone working there is really friendly, the doctor was great and explained everything she was going to do prior to doing it so that I knew what to expect, and went over all of my results with me in detail. It was my first real eye exam and I'm so glad I ended up at Heights! My appointment ran late, but I was okay with that and everyone apologized for taking longer which I appreciated. Then when it was my turn, it really felt like all of their attention was on me and I could've asked more questions and they would've welcomed them rather than rushing me through the whole process. WHAT AN AMAZING STAFF! I had to take the time off my busy schedule to give Dr. Walton's team some props. The customer service was so sweet and on top of that they help you take the necessary steps to get you where you need to be. I am HUGE with CUSTOMER SERVICE and the fact that I got to speak with Dr. Walton personally on the phone was like meeting a celebrity. Dr's usually don't give you the time or day unless you are literally sitting in an office room, and Dr. Walton personally explained to me the important information, I didn't even have to ask. Asking the pricing for anything is usually uncomfortable but needed and instead of having to ask, Dr. Walton took the time to speak with me on the phone and explain the pricing with me, this made me so comfortable. I wish there was more staff out there like Dr. Walton's team. Thank you for an amazing experience and am glad to know that there are people out there that truly cares and understand others situation. This is a great addition to this ever improving neighborhood which I happen to live in. I remember when it used to be a shoe store and I'd walk by and was like "hmm should I buy some super expensive hipster shoes?.... Nah!" But I was super excited that it turned into an optometry place because that's actually something I use and need. Thankfully they accepted my vision coverage and I got some super cute glasses and was fitted for contacts that actually don't dry out and make my eyes all itchy. The staff is sooo nice and helpful and cheerful. You can tell they are just really happy to be there which is so nice. As a newbie to this place, I feel that I could not have felt more welcomed. The entire team was friendly, perfectly-timed and very knowledgeable! They made me feel extremely warmed and welcomed, and their office was very adorable. Dr. Walton and her staff are top-notch. They are all friendly and helpful and are willing to take the time to help you out. First off when you walk in you see the place is decorated very nicely with wood floors and huge leather couches and chairs. The walls are covered with frames to try on as well as a table covered in frames. There is definitely a selection to choose from here. I don't know which insurance Dr. Walton takes but she took mine (UHC vision) so I only paid $10 for my exam. I originally wanted contact lenses but my eyes proved to be just too sensitive to handle being poked and prodded so I opted for glasses instead. Hey glasses are in right? Fortunately for me I found a pair that both looked good and were covered by my insurance. Score! The exam itself was quite painless. Dr. Walton is a very friendly person so she makes the exam pretty easy to get through. She also doesn't use that scary thing that blows air at your eyes which is a plus in my book. I was very sensitive to light for about 4 hours after the exam but that was manageable. I even got these really cool plastic shades to wear with my regular sunglasses so I could go back out into the world after my exam. As for Dr. Walton's staff, they are excellent too. Jeannette helped me on two separate occasions to try out contact lenses. Both times were colossal failures but Jeannette was very patient and supportive with my attempts. I highly recommend seeing Dr. Walton even if you don't live in the area. She and her staff are that good. And I'm totally stoked for my new glasses! read more

New year, new insurance! I was a little panicked finding out my new insurance no longer covered my eye doctor I had been going to for the past 10 years or so. Researched places around town that worked with my insurance, most had sub-par reviews. I then came across Heights Optometry! Called on Thursday and was able to schedule an appointment for myself and my boyfriend for Saturday. They also have online booking too. Their location is perfect right next door to BLA, with plenty of street parking on the side of the building. Front reception and Optician were both so friendly and informative while we were waiting. Long story short, Dr.Walton is personable and very informative. She takes the time to explain the process, and what is going on with your eyes. She was very kind, personable, and made the experience of going to the optometrist alot more pleasant than it usually is! Chose Dr. Walton because of all the great Yelp reviews... and I'm so happy with my experience, figured I should add to her 5-star bank! Everyone I spoke with in the office was super friendly and personable, and Dr. Walton was great. As other reviewers have noted, she really takes the time to explain what's going on with your eyes. I needed to order new contacts, and I appreciated how they sat down with me after the appointment to go over my insurance benefits and what the total cost would be, in writing. Not only were all the staff friendly, quick, and competent, our optometrist Meredith had a wonderful demeanor and was also very knowledgeable. I have never enjoyed going to the eye doctor before! But I can honestly say that I did this time. Heights Optometry is exceptional. I don't have visual insurance, but I was skeptical about going to an optometrist because I did not understand that Optometrists can do more than provide a lens prescription. I had some concerns about my eyes, and I needed a much more in depth exam - a complete look at the health of my eyes from the inside out. Dr. Walton explained to me that she is more than qualified to do this work, and does so at a very reasonable price, so I made an appoinment. First of all, Dr. Walton is extremely knowledgeable and was very respectful about my anxiety about having my eyes handled. She goes out of her way to do things in a way that makes her patients as comfortable as we can be, and she is very communicative throughout the process, explaining her techniques and answering questions as she conducts the exam. I feel 100% confident that she is caring for my eyes as well as they can be cared for. I have OK vision but I have an astigmatism in each eye (even that word grosses me out) and she helped me find a prescription that makes everything so crisp! In addition, my family has a history of lattice degeneration and macular degeneration, and Dr. Walton really helped me to understand what this means and to feel assured that she was carefully looking for any signs of injury or damage in my eyes. Aside from the excellent experience with getting my eyes checked, I had a great time selecting frames with Janette, who is lovely and has a great breadth of knowledge about frame inventory. These women have great taste! The office decor is whimsical and elegant, and the selection of frames is so beautifully curated. The ladies helped me select a set of frames that I am - there is no better way to say this - obsessed with. If you're looking for a good Optometrist, I would highly recommend giving Heights Optometry a try. First I would like to say that I have no issue with Dr Walton - She was great. My issue is that I wanted to replace the lenses in one pair of glasses and get a spare pair with new frames and lenses. Unfortunately, when I looked at the frames they offered I was surprised that 85% of the frames they have on display were for women. The frames they have for men are almost an afterthought. I am not a finicky man but I found nothing in the limited selection for men that they carry that would suit me. I was told that I could go to their sister shop in North Park who had other styles and selections. However, I am a busy executive who found it hard to even get away just for this office visit, let alone seek out a satellite location for what I need. My advice is that if you are a woman this is probably a great option for your eye care needs. If you are a man and require a one-stop shop for your eyewear, I suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Having changed optometrists this year, I really wanted to be able to give this business 5 stars, as I was really looking forward to my visit. I hope Heights Optometry will consider the following feedback. Let's start with the postive: 1. The business has a very hip, vibe, nicely decorated and fits the whole Normal Heights scene. I love that I have access to an optometrist that is within walking distance. 2. The staff are friendly. 3. The optometrist I saw was competent and addressed my needs. 4. I'm willing to give them a second try, since they are so close to home. The negative: 1. I hated my scheduling experience as a new patient. It was kind of bizarre. I tried to call and make an appointment, but called at a time when no one was answering the phone. Somehow, I was directed to the online scheduling system, which was not too user friendly. After scheduling online, I was telephoned by staff to complete additional information online--medical history and such. Staff called me to verify my insurance information. During that process, my personal information that I entered online was lost by them, and I had to recommunicate it. I have never had such a complicated scheduling experience with any other medical business. One other tip: If you have a limited availability, this business appears to be booked up weeks in advance--as far as I could tell on their online scheduling system. Also, if you schedule online, there is no indication of which optometrist you are seeing, as there are multiple optometrists working in this business. I thought I was scheduled to see Dr. Walton, but saw a different Dr. at my appointment time. 2. While the selection of frames is fashionable, I was very disappointed at the price ranges of available frames. Here's why: 6-months prior to making my first appointment here, I stopped in this business to check out the vibe and selection. At that time, this business offered a wonderful selection of frames that were priced appropriately for our diverse Normal Heights neighborhood. I was impressed and felt that this business had considered the needs of the folks who live around it. There really was something for every budget. By the time I attended my appointment, there was a very limited selection of frames covered by my generous VSP plan. While, paying a little extra isn't problem for me, there are many in our neighorhood, for whom it would be a problem. This was one of the reasons I left my last optometrist: the doctor sold his business to Invision Optometry--only offering high-end frames and a boutique vibe. 3. The staff: while friendly, I experienced them as...well...distracted, ungrounded Millenials and strangely too perky--except for the young-man who dispensed and fit my frames. 4. The tip jar is tacky and not appropriate for a medical practice. read more

Had to hop on here and leave a review for Dr. Walton and the entire staff at Heights Optometry. I woke up New Year's Day and had a severe issue with my eyes and needed attention ASAP. I called Heights Optometry and they got me in within the next day. They even offered to have me come in as early as an hour after I called, but I couldn't due to being at work. The entire staff is enjoyable to be around, and Dr. Walton is just awesome. She made my life so easy and got me in a pair of new glasses the SAME DAY, prescribed me drops that fixed my eyes over night, and was so persistent, but not over the top, on following up to make sure I was ok. I'm originally from the east coast and was afraid to check out a new optometrist, but this experience was way easier than I ever thought it would've been. If there was a 6/5 option I would give it. I have been a customer of this optometry office for a few years now since being stationed in SD. I heard they were very military friendly and I love their sunglasses selection. Just before COVID happened, I had purchased a new pair. A few weeks into enjoying them, I went to put them on one evening and they snapped in my hand with no reason. I contacted the optometry office and was put in touch with a woman there named Flor. Over the course of multiple weeks, she was contacted the manufacturer on my behalf and eventually got them repaired for me since Carrera no longer made them. I have to say, without exaggeration, that Dr Walton changed my life. I am extremely myopic and found out that I have been over-prescribed for contacts for many years. Dr Walton lowered my prescription in both eyes and as a result I can sit across from someone without them appearing blurry, can read anything I pick up without using reading glasses and can still see long distance without noticing any difference. She also let me know, that because my lenses are medically necessary that I don't have to pay for them! No one else ever bothered to research or inform me about this. She is so invested in her patients which is so refreshing in this "all about the dollar" healthcare world we now live in. read more

I am a long-time glasses & contact wearer (20+ years), and typically dread going to eye doctor and dealing with the process just to get a new prescription. This experience has completely changed my mind! Had such a great experience with the staff leading up to the exam. Dr. Ciuffreda was so personable, energetic and caring. It was a thorough exam, and I learned new things about my eyes that my previous eye doctors didn't even care to look for. I want to support the local business since I live a few blocks away, but how this place run its operation was very poor. I came in, found a pair on display that I really liked, but my insurance wouldn't be ready until December. I was told by the staff members that they will keep the model of the glasses in my file so when my insurance is up, they have my prescription and can get everything processed. Sounds like an efficient process. I know the holidays was creeping up and sent them a message to verify if the glasses are still in stock. I get a reply from the owner that they lost the glasses information from my file and I should make another trip to come in. Immediately that day, I get another email saying that their staff misplaced my file. This wasn't a good sign to me, but I still want to give them another chance. My insurance was ready and I was looking forward to processing my glasses and they told me they sold the frame to someone else. I gave it one more try, sat down to go through the ordering of the frame color and lens. I was notified that my frame arrived and low and behold the color that came in was the wrong color. On top of that, their system is down and they had to borrow another staff from their sister store who I had the most cringeworthy conversation ever. I understand it's not her fault, but it's really off putting talking to someone who doesn't genuinely care about your situation. The sale could have been saved if she would offer me a solution that can reassure me she can get everything to go smoothly such as expediting a new order with the right color. Or throw the human shield, aka "manager", "floor supervisor" and have them repair the situation. But instead after going back and forth, she flat out ask what I wanted to do. I want my refund back. Since their system is down, I can't get my refund back today so I'm expecting that portion most importantly to happen. If I don't see my money get refunded, then I will proceed to take the next step with my bank. I want to like you guys since you're the new kids on the block, but every other business owner here understand how important the relationship with the local shoppers. Your store is the only one who does not even address me as a local even though I live on the same street as one of your staff members and have been in there many times. Today everyone was busy with other customers, but none of staff even acknowledged and said hi to me. I gave one star because optometry is primarily about customer service. I've worked in the customer service industry, and so far this place does not know how to make operation process goes smoothly in conjunction with their staff training on customer service. If any of my neighbors here ask about this place, I wouldn't recommend because it's a lot of trouble going back and forth. read more
