Because my health insurance covers annual eye exams, it is so easy to bring in my current prescription for them to use for the lenses. Their selection of frames range from affordable to high end designer. Regardless to what your budget is the customer service is unmatched! Billy is super knowledgeable and helpful to find the right frame. The lead time for the finished glasses depends on what you need but since I require progressive lenses it takes a little but longer than a standard lens. All three of my new glasses (one clear for everyday/night, two different style sunglasses) came in earlier than expected. Give yourself plenty of time to try on all the frames to find the exact one you want. I first went to UnOptical in Hillcrest during Covid 2020. I wanted a new pair of sunglasses and was trying to spend my money at local businesses. So I went with a friend and bought 3 pair of sunglasses. It was an expensive day, but well worth the money and it felt good to support a business during lockdown. Fast forward to 2022 when I returned to SD after living in SF briefly. I thought I had lost the pair of Maui Jim's I purchased in 2020, so I went back to the same store and purchased a 4th pair, this time a pair of Ray-bans. Then, as luck would have it....my Maui Jim's were returned to me! They had a small scratch on one of the lenses so I went to UnOptical to inquire about repairing them. I was told it would $90. I held off spending the money since I just spent a lot of money on the Ray-Bans. A few weeks ago I stopped in to finally have the glasses repaired. Upon walking in the door I was greeted by a tall gentleman who immediately seemed bothered by my presence. When I gave him my information, he told me that since my glasses were out of warranty, they would not help me, which is odd because I didn't ask for warranty work. He made it known that the only record he had of me was me purchasing the Ray-Bans. I started to explain that I know my name doesn't show 5 years of history, but I didn't understand why that was important. He brushed me off, told me that after 2 years it wouldn't be honored. He actually turned his back to me, but kept talking. There was a 2nd person there who seemed disinterested as well, so I didn't engage with him. I told them both I would not give them my business again, to which I got a very insincere "sorry", and then I left. I sent my glasses in to Maui Jim, paid $90 and now I have them back and they are amazing! So now I have spent about $1000 at this one location, during a time of incredible financial hardship for most, and I was treated like a nuisance/inconvenience when I wanted to actually spend more. I will not be back, as I stated, but I feel strongly enough about my experience to ensure the rest of the public knows they value your money, but not your loyalty. read more

I've been coming to this eyewear boutique for almost 10 years. The selection is fantastic. I love their In-House optometrist who does both me and my elderly mother's exams. They also have a very affordable, stylish wall of buy two get one free frames so I usually stock up every few years. I also bring all of my custom projects here for hand cut and color lenses for my vintage frame finds. I picked out a pair of Steve Madden frames for my new sunglasses and gave her all my information. When I return today I picked out the polarization color that I wanted for my sunglasses Since I already had my eye prescription I bought the what they call Big package LOL for $299. Really looking forward to returning and getting a new pair of shades. I have a really good selection there of designer brands and I think their prices are very reasonable for this area. When you book an appointment they give you the option to select a few frames before hand so they're ready when you arrive. My sister was nice enough to make me an appointment at her favorite optician and I am so glad she did. Dr. Medina was meticulous in her exam, had more tools at her disposal than any other eye doctor I have been to, and had such a great personality (well everyone who works there was amazing). This was the best experience I have ever had getting my eyes examined. I also had extreme dry eye and some corneal abrasion after an eye surgery. She checked not only my cornea but prescribed an antibiotic ointment for me to help heal it. Picking out glasses was fantastic - they have so many to choose from and the best brands out there. I ended up buying three pairs and will be going back for contacts (once my eyes heal) and sunglasses next. It helped that the prices for glasses were down to earth. I had previously gone to a place where I spent $1,000 for one pair! This is the best place you could ever go for an eye exam. Plenty of parking, too! These guys are great! I didn't even buy glasses from them because at the time my budget didn't allow for their pricing. I went to Stanton and got some horrible service and crappy deal, but I was desperate and half blind. But anytime my glasses have been bent, they've adjusted them for me no charge!! So cool!
