I went to see Melody Tavakoli, O.D for a second opinion after struggling with expensive progressive glasses that just weren't working for me. Dr. T really listened, took the time to understand my lifestyle and vision needs, and used her deep technical knowledge to fit me with multifocal contact lenses that not only have me seeing better than I have in a year, but also properly addressed my dry eye. Her expertise and use of advanced diagnostic tools made me feel completely confident in her recommendations and treatment plan. You can tell she stays up-to-date with the latest in eye care and genuinely cares about providing the best possible outcomes for her patients. Side note~ I had recently been told by two different optometrists that I was not a candidate for contact lenses. This is not to speak poorly of them, rather to elevate Dr. T. She is a peer educator and teaches other optometrist about the latest advancements in contact lens technologies, including how to identify and treat appropriate patients. All that to say, if you have the opportunity to be seen by her, you are in very good hands. Erika is the optician at Be Seen and is equally as knowledgeable and talented -- she fitted me for the coolest pair of sunglasses I've ever owned. Their selection of regular frames is amazing, also -- they're more like stylish accessories than the glasses of yesteryear. I took a prescription here to get filled, I'm not the least bit impressed. The glasses were OK, extremely expensive and actually very heavy once the lenses were put in. I ended up throwing them away after six months. Not to mention it took three weeks for me to get my glasses. OK, so this review is basically saying that Dr. T is amazing and I love her and she has helped me more than I think she even understands because she was able to fit me into contacts that I didn't know I needed. And if you want to skip to the end of this review, it says go see her now. Don't just accept that you can't see as well as you did before. AND......:) Everyone says they're a visual person, but I'm going to tell you that I've just discovered in the last week and a half, I'm an extra super Duper ultra visual person!! After seeing Dr. T, I found myself going out more into the world. I started organizing my house more. I basically didn't realize that I was slowly not wanting to go places because I couldn't see as well as I did before. I done to get my eyes checked and nothing was really working. The gist is that I've been wearing contacts that just didn't fit and it turns out it was the contacts that we're making my eyes dry not my eyes not producing enough tears Also I have a sigmatism so that throws a curveball into everything as well. . So ...I couldn't really see that well anywhere from 5 feet in front of me to the top of Mount Solidad. It was all just kind of a lil bit fuzzy. I've even gone to a more powerful prescription and it didn't help. I even checked to see if I was burdened with some rare psychological condition.... Alas ...It was mostly just the brand of my contacts. After seeing Dr.T I was given access to some contacts that were probably invented by aliens and sent to us from the future .... These lenses were not the market yet. Fortunately, because she is an educator/superstar/OG visual sensei, Dr. T was given some trial pairs and was able to let me try them. . In this case it's Johnson and Johnson for Acuview multi focus for astigmatism. I'm a changed woman I can now see everything (including wrinkles and small text)!. I also find myself to be a lot happier and able to weld and work on things that I kind of lost interest because I couldn't really see very well. I can drive at night and see every single street sign. I can look at my phone and actually see what's on it. Yes, I do use reading glasses when I'm working on electronics, and other fine detailed type things but I can see everything else for the first time in many years. Because I can see everything around me I'm much much happier and more social person. I didn't realize how much I was procrastinating on the work I do for a living. I'm a sculptor. I love making things and I love it even more now that I don't have to go through the extra extra mental gymnastics because I can't see. Thank you, thank you thank you Dr. T. read more

The place is truly mystical! I very happily stumbled upon it after a coffee run in Bird Rock. I had only just stepped in the door when David, the owner, magically replaced my tepid latte with a goblet of perfectly chilled Chardonnay. He had my undivided attention. And I his. I lived in La Jolla for over 16 years - and only discovered Be Seen after I moved to Los Angeles. And now that I've "discovered" them - I won't be buying frames or getting my eyes examined anywhere else - even if that means driving down from West Hollywood. David and Megan are eyeglass whisperers! They seem to know almost intuitively which frame/style/color will make your face shine. And they are delightful, funny and kind which is a nice bonus when it comes to eyeglass whisperers. I've also had my eyes examined by the on-staff optometrist, Jesse Camen, who is equally wonderful. They are helpful in guiding patients through the process and offer excellent followup for any problems you might have (though I've had NO problems).
