I've been meaning to write this but noticing my lens coating peeling again, that finally motivate me to do so. I used this shop from 2022 for about two years (exams + glasses). Maybe they've improved since, but I gave up after the 2nd year. Both pairs of glasses I bought from them had the coating start peeling after ~1 year. I've attached a photo so you can see. If you replace glasses yearly, you might not care; otherwise it's frustrating. The doctor was fine; no complaints there. My issue is with the glasses they sell. read more

The absolute worst. The doctor gave me an exam for contacts about 4 months after the same for glasses. I decided that wearing contacts was too difficult for me, so on the day that I was to pick them up, I told him and he had something of a "hissy fit" stormed away, and told me we were done. That he was sending them back at my request. So, not only the attitude, but my total charge with the contacts was $444. I was refunded $144. So, I got an exam that took about 30-40 minutes and was charged $300. I believe they call the usury. read more

Came here for my first time today, I had gotten lost but P.D. was very helpful I called & he guided me there. Once I entered he was even more helpful & did my eye tests & I then met Dr. Dana Huth who was awesome as well, I asked a lot of questions & he explained in depth so I really understood what was going on with my vision. He also said I could try on different contact colors after my contract test. Once I came back out to the lobby I tried the contacts calmly it was nice no rush at all which is really great bc I like to take my time. & P.D. helped me find the most perfect Tiffany frames & went over my insurance options for me. Insurance is very confusing but he helped me understand & guided me to the best options. So glad I found this place, pretty sure it will be my forever place. read more

If you need a new prescription and new eyeglasses, it's probably OK, although it sounded strange when the optometrist said "I'm going to give you...", as if the correction I need is some form of art, rather than me answering to "one or two", "three or four", etc. If you need an eye exam, definitely go somewhere else. They have antiquated equipment and the optometrist either doesn't feel the need to do a good job, or doesn't know how. I got a couple of weird results on those automated devices and the optometrist made no attempt to figure out why, or even to discuss them with me, despite my prodding. I left with no additional information, just two question marks. I decided to go to a different optometrist, where I got a comprehensive eye exam and everything explained to my satisfaction. Turns out that of those two question marks, one was an incorrect result and the other had a simple and very well understood explanation, and was no concern at all. Needless to say, I'm never going to Optometric Expressions again. read more

They are conveniently located downtown and the only location for eye exams in the downtown area. Dr. Huth is the most thorough eye doctor- he has a personality that makes you want to return to his office. I tried to get an appointment in north county and for whatever reason could not so I took the train to San Diego and started searching for optometrists he was located in the building where I was having breakfast at. I just moved to San Diego and needed new glasses. Dr. Huth was so thorough all the while explaining every step of my eye exam. I am 65 and never had such a great exam. After the exam, I was introduced to Phanindra Duvvuri aka P.D.- the optician. He was amazing. He had me try on so many glasses and was so helpful with choosing the best pair for me. He explained my insurance and boom, I was done. Finally, Rommel Peralta had me try on the glasses, made sure that my prescription would fit and he made sure my pupil was marked on my glasses. I came in for an Eye exam and Frames and I had a very enjoyable experience. When I walked into the store I was kindly met by Joanne. She was very friendly and attentive. She was such help when I was choosing what frames to pick. She really helped. Then I was met by Dr. Huth, who was very knowledgeable and humorous as well. The exam was quick and easy, the frames were extensive and ranged in prices and the store looked nice. The place gets 5 stars for it's attention to the customer, a sort of feeling of family that lets them really take care of you how you should. You, know? Smoooooth like silk. I went here for my first eye exam and glasses purchase. Everything started ok, though their frames were very pricey. I trusted their expertise but also got wary of their selling techniques. I ended up selecting a single pair, which would take a week to make, and asked for a written prescription as i was going. overseas for more than a month and might need to buy another pair on the fly. My vision is mostly fine except for reading small print, so they suggested readers. While they focused fine looking down, they were completely blurry looking up. I had assumed the glass would be regular, but after a few days of wearing them at work, my eyes felt strained. After going back to the store, the staff got snooty and said I ordered the wrong type and it would be another $70 to fix. Again, this was my 1st pair and i trusted their advice. Also, the prescription they wrote was incomplete, so when I had other glasses made in different places, they were all fucked up. I mentioned this to staff and was blown off. In fact, please note how often management responds to reviews on here.... its a good indication of the service you'lll get. None. read more

So, these folks may have literally saved my life. I was visiting San Diego and forgot to pack my contacts or my glasses, which I of course did not realize until I had thrown away the pair of contacts I wore when traveling and woke up after my first night in the hotel. I called in a panic as soon as they opened and they assured me they would find a way to help me. When I made my way to the shop from my hotel (I have very weak eyesight so this was scary) they walked my through getting a copy of my prescription from my doctor at home. I have a tough prescription so it was unclear if they would have what I needed. As we waited for the doctor to see if he could substitute my standard lenses for something else, the staff worked up options, including fabricating on sight a pair of glasses that would get me through the rest of my visit if that was what it took. In the end the doctor was able to get me some lenses for a minimal fee, but the real experience was the kindness the staff and doctor showed to this random guy that walked in with a problem of his own making. If I lived in San Diego I would definitely come to this shop! read more
