I feel very mislead after my experience at North Park Optometry. I went for an eye exam and my insurance has a copay. They did the exam and then told me after that the retinal screening was an additional cost. OK fine but that really should have been disclosed beforehand. They told me I needed progressives. I really didn't want to spend the money for them, but they told me no worries you can exchange for single vision if you don't like them. I had to pay out of pocket for the lenses and the frames because my insurance only covered so much., I get the progressives, hate them, bring them back. I asked about a refund for the cost of the progressives (single vision lenses are covered at cost through my insurance). Their response was "sorry we do no refunds, it's a courtesy to remake them, but the progressives lenses can't be reused so we can't refund you". That is misleading at best. So they get to keep the cost of the progressives that I paid and they billed my insurance through. Glasses are not inexpensive and when they told me I could exchange there is an assumption that means the financial cost too. read more

Got recommended here by a friend since I recently moved to the area and needed to establish a new optometrist, and I really enjoyed my experience here! I called beforehand to inquire if my insurance was accepted and get some general information, and the man who took my call was very pleasant and helpful. On the day of the visit, the office was clean and decorated well, it felt more enjoyable to be there than a typical doctors office. I arrived 5 minutes early and they took me in right away. Maya was an amazing tech who helped with my initial eye exam. She explained everything to me and made the process easy. I was purely going in for new contact lenses and appreciated that there was no pressure to change anything with my glasses. Dr. Ibrahim was great. Friendly, efficient, and professional! I will definitely continue going here. Only note is parking can be tough in this area, luckily I had asked about this on the phone and knew to arrive early. When I called for an appointment, I asked the person answering the phone if they accepted Medicare... "Yes" After I finished the exam, they said, " oh, never mind, we DON'T take Medicare.. you owe us $xxx.xx" WHAT?? FRAUD! While the staff are very friendly, and I have been a customer here for years, I will sadly discontinue my business with North Park Optometry after my experience with Dr. Davis. When I declined a service (retina exam) that she recommended, she was rude, condescending, and very frustrated by my decision. She continued to push the issue as if it was life or death, and was generally harsh and abrasive. I was shocked at the treatment and attitude of this doctor and it was worth nothing for other customers. read more

As a first time customer, I was very impressed with the service. All I wanted was an eye exam for new glasses. I was offered service/product for additional charges, but when I declined, my response was accepted with no pressure to change my mind. I appreciated this. My exam was very complete and professional, covered 100% by my insurance. the staff was very friendly, especially eric who greeted me and made me comfortable, explaining the forms that required my signature. Not the best experience here. I went since it was walking distance to where I live and that was the only real positive. They asked me for my medical info in case of emergency when I came in, which I understand to an extent but, don't get offended when I say I don't need to tell you that... I saw the doctor who was okay but I requested that I move to a different sized contact because my previous optometrist (who I had before I moved) recommended that would be much better for my eye and saw improvement in vessel health in my eyes during a trial period. Dr didn't even entertain that and recommend 1 a days that they sold and not wearing my contacts as much. I then got to the end where I can pick out glasses (so I don't wear my contacts as much) and they don't have anything $125 or lower and I owed over $100 when my copay is $20. I went in thinking that I was only supposed to pay $20 and they said there was multiple exams that they administered without telling me there would be an additional cost. Very professional and they are very flexible about last minute cancellations and didn't charge me for a late cancellation something that I hugely appreciate these days since things do pop up. They are so friendly and helpful here, and my optician was so informative! I had an issue with a prescription I'd gotten somewhere else, and she really took the time to educate me more about what was happening. Definitely the kind of person you can ask questions, unlike how so many other places just want to rush you in and out. Nice frames for glasses, too! Not the cheapest in the neighborhood, but you'll get what you pay for. Some nicely selected and stylish frames that won't break the bank. My only gripe is that I wish their operation hours were expanded. It's so hard to find a time to stop before they close during the weekdays, but they are quick to answer emails when you need them. read more

I came back to FINALLY get my yearly exam (that was like 3 years overdo ). I am mostly in Vista these days for work/ staying at my partners home, so I was going to try and find something closer in that sense, but the last time I was here in (2018-2019?) I had a great experience so I decided to come back. I was greeted at the door and told I would be helped in a moment, as both employees out at the front were helping other people. Once I was checked it I was told to browse around if I wanted. Wait time was no longer than 5 minutes, and I was taken to the back to have some pictures taken by the woman who checked me in, and then then the Dr. saw me. Dr. Walton was so lovely! She explained everything thoroughly and was just so kind. She answered any questions I had. After we were done, she took me back to the front and the other lovely lady helped me choose out my glasses. THANK GOODNESS because I would've been there ALL DAY trying to decide. Lol She had great conversation and my social anxiety wasn't through the roof while she was helping me make a decision. When I received the notification that my glasses arrived, I called and the woman let me know I can just pop in before they closed, and she even told me to park in the alley if needs just while I quickly pick up because parking is a hassle. I had the pleasure today of walking into North Park optometry because I needed to fix the nose guard on my glasses. I have a contact wearer for decades, and I have forgotten how to care for glasses and so after wearing mine for about a week I needed repairs I walked into my neighborhood, optometry shop and was delightfully greeted by Dr. Andrea, who with a big smile, asked me how she could help I explained that my glasses needed a repair and I was also looking for an inexpensive case so I can throw them in my backpack Within minutes, she came back with my glasses, looking good as new; all polished and asked me to try them on. They fit snug and comfortably. She then handed me a case to put them in. I then asked how much I owed and she replied: "nothing" ! Being unable to wear contact lenses for the foreseeable future I am looking for glasses and a better solution than wearing three different pairs for reading distance, computer work, etc. I explained my dilemma to the doctor and she very thoroughly and plainly helped me understand the differences and respective advantages/ drawbacks of bifocals, trifocals, progressive, etc. let me tell you others have explained this to me twice already and yet I guess the third time is a charm. I will go back to Northpark optometry not because because they are close by the house but because of the service I received here. It is local businesses like this that need to be supported. Big chains may have some benefits, however it is the local store with a local proprietor in my neighborhood that will get my business 90% of the time. As I looked around the shop, I saw a great variety of sunglasses frames all the stuff you would expect in an optical shop, but the service is what stood out here. It costs me $25 to get my frames adjusted which I purchased here at this office and she made me sign a sheet saying I did not purchase them at this office yet I did and I told her that fact however the front desk lady says they are no longer warranted so I made my payment and On the contrary, when I first purchased them they told me I can come in whenever to get them adjusted for free which I have done each time for free additionally I use to work at a health professional private clinic so I understand and initially inquired about any expiration on warranty which she (flower) said it never costs anything they just try to up charge you and yes I know about how scientology business management works so just for that I'll take my business elsewhere where. Sadly I specifically waited to come here because I needed to get additional eye exams and check ups but again I am to reconsider being a patient here. read more

I have been coming here for years. I liked the previous owner of the practice and was happy to see it get updated with a bunch of new technology when it was taken over. Dr. Schaffner is awesome; she takes time to explain what she is doing, answer any questions, and follows up on issues from previous visits. The staff here are super friendly and helpful. Would reccomend. Doctor was nice, staff are nice. If you live near University then it's walkable and convenient. Just got my glasses and wow, I have a relatively weak Rx but I really am enjoying being able to see my 4k TV in... 4k. Dr. Chaffner is the best! She explains throughly, gives you recommendations to improve your vision, and encourages you to asks questions. I had a very pleasant experience. Her assistant is also great! However, do not expect the receptionist and eyewear specialist to check your insurance details throughly. Call your insurance and inquire with them instead or check your benefits beforehand. The eyewear specialist, Sky, told me my insurance covered my frames but she did not see that I had gotten frames months ago and I had to wait a certain amount of time to get an additional pair. Just making sure you check this before so you are not surprised with a bill. read more
