I went to HRD for brunch this morning and I had a great time! From the moment I walked up to the door I was impressed with the decor and design of the space. When you enter, there is a small market that has a variety of baked goods and beverages for purchase. The dining space is large and well lit. I noticed many thoughtful details from the bowls of citrus at the bar, to the adorable water glasses they brought. I ordered the Bloody Mary to drink. It was a delicious house mix with mini crudite for the garnish. I ordered the Full Irish Breakfast to eat. It came with white and purple fingerling potatoes, ham, a piece of sausage, two eggs, roasted tomatoes, toast, and baked beans. I've never had beans for brunch before, but I really enjoyed them! Our server said it is the largest portion of food on the brunch menu, so needless to say I have leftovers. The service was good, from the hostess opening the door for us, to the server providing a explanation on the name of the restaurant and explaining how the menu is laid out, and providing helpful suggestions. The menu has a familiar foods section, a section of more worldly (but not too strange) foods, and a selection of trending foods. It was a very cool concept! Disappointing!! This was my favorite spot for seafood until our last visit. They have a super great happy hour as well so disappointing is an understatement. We were in last week and got the peel and shrimp which were brown, slimy, and stinky. I couldn't even eat them. We had some chicken wings that came out sitting in a pool full of grease. I couldn't eat those either. I brought a few home to try to pawn them off on my kids and they wouldn't eat them either and said they were gross. My husband got the oysters and said they were good. We also got a fish sandwich and waited and waited and waited. The bartender finally asked us if we got our sandwich and we said no. She said she accidentally rang in a chicken sandwich so we waited again. It came out with the fish, a bun, and tarter sauce. We had to ask for lettuce and tomato to go on it. The sandwich was good but we were over it at that point. The only thing we really enjoyed from this visit was our wine. We got a lobster roll here over the summer and it was delicious but we got one about a month ago and it was so bad we had to send it back. We did have the wedge salad and coconut shrimp a few visits ago and we did enjoy that. The bartenders are super friendly and personable. The rest of the staff is friendly and helpful as well. Our hope is that they become more consistent with their food quality. We really enjoy the staff, food (sometimes), wine, and happy hour prices. read more

Went to Hazel's with high expectations and walked out SO disappointed. Flounder Imperial, was horrible. Basically blanched fish with no taste at all, portion size was immensely small and came with 3 pieces of asparagus and presentation was sad. The Blue Crab Salad was basically a cob salad with about a teaspoonful on crab on top to the side (huge let down). Rockfish was fantastic. They had 2 large parties going on and the meals looked rushed and just not what they should be for that price-point. The cocktails were on point. My wife and I had dinner at HRD yesterday (Sunday) late afternoon. We did have a reservation but the restaurant was busy but not packed. I definitely recommend reservations as I understand the restaurant gets very busy. We were welcomed by the host/manager very cordially and he seated us promptly at the low-top table we requested. Really friendly guy who seemed genuinely pleased to see us! We were promptly greeted by our server Nikki. She was super nice and since it was our first time at the restaurant she talked about the menu highlights. We had arrived about 10 mins before the daily happy hour, but she took our drink and app order and delayed a few mins to get us happy hour pricing for our selections. During our dinner, Nikki was serving several tables with large families but we never felt that she ignored us or that our needs weren't met. Highest compliments to her for her energy and professionalism. BTW, the happy hour here is awesome!! $5 cocktails (my Knob Creek old fashioned is as good as I make at home) and $5 appetizers. We had the clam strips and peel n eat shrimp. An awesome deal from 4-6pm (I believe every day). We ordered the Lobster Bisque, Caesar Salad and 2 of the Lobster Rolls (Connecticut style). Probably some of the best we have had. I can't say how much we enjoyed the food. We will return as soon as we can to try some of the other menu features. Loved this place!! read more

Very good flavours and fresh food for brunch. The Bloody Mary's are good. Mimosas are not as sweet as expected. But the food was excellent. I had Huevos rancheros and my husband had the Irish breakfast. We went to celebrate together and they had such good service they have us a cinnamon roll on the house. The one mistake was that they forgot the potatoes with my husband's Irish breakfast, but once we mentioned it, they brought a whole order and deducted from the bill that added item. Here is my straight to the point review on this new restaurant I went to: The cheese and crackers appetizer was phenomenal. Wings had some good taste but had a lot of fat and not enough meat on them. Burger and fries was amazing! Kale salad was a bit salty but presentation was nice. The chick peas gave it a good crunch. Wish our waitress checked on us a little more. Still fairly new, just opened a couple weeks ago. Don't go here if your celebrating a birthday and want candles in your dessert. They don't have in-house candles. Have resisted going to this restaurant after going to it twice several years ago. The problem was that the menu was confusing and the food was strange and just not very good. As we are trying to support the workers who are being affected by the Covid crisis and (excessive) lockdown, and we love to eat out, and seeing they completely changed their menu, we ventured back with low expectations. We were very pleasantly surprised!! First of all, the place was packed!! We were seated in one of the back rooms which still was somewhat open to the hustle and bustle of the main dining area, it was nice. This back room was also full, glad to see the restaurant was doing well...must be a reason... First of all, the service was great!! We had an awesome waitress who took great care of us. Started with some drinks which were very reasonably priced (in Birmingham?). We started with the wedge of lettuce which had a nice, sweet, light vinaigrette and just the right amount of blue cheese. My wife said it was the best she ever had. She had the fried chicken appetizer which was tender and juicy, she loved it. My daughter loved it too when we brought her some home as a leftover. I had the teriyaki salmon which was perfectly prepared with a tangy teriyaki glaze on a crispy rice patty with some snappy fresh green beans. Excellent!! I thought about giving this place 4 stars as I previously HATED this restaurant, but that wouldn't be fair because it was great!! And the previously strange menu which was devoid of anything that interested us now has us wanting to go back and try some of the many things that look so good. Brunch! Pet peeve of mine is not enough good and interesting breakfast options in the world. Visited this place and think we have a winner. Huevos rancheros is always one of my favorites and this one did not disappoint. Perfect with a great bloody Mary. Rave reviews for the vegetarian omelette (ordered with full egg instead of egg white) and potato pancakes. Not your run of the mill choices. My only disappointment is that they ran out of the famed cinnamon rolls. Next time. This place has a cool vibe. Lots of interesting sights and the open kitchen was a bit mesmerizing to watch. My understanding of service varies based on # of people at the restaurant, time of the visit but we went after the usual lunch rush and the restaurant was not busy at the time but the fact that the people who came in after us received their food before us and people sitting by us ordered dessert after we put in our order and received their dessert before our order just told us how slow the service actually was..For a gourmet meal with perfectly cooked wagyu steak , perhaps understandable.. but for a lobster roll little too much.. highly recommend for a take out.. food was delicious!! read more

I have had my eye on this place for awhile now and somehow always forget to suggest it for date night. We finally went on Friday for dinner and I am so glad we did! It was the crab takeover menu, which actually I don't eat or like crab but they had a ton of other seafood options for me to choose from. We started with the dewy dip, which was awesome. I got the fish and chips with Mac and cheese and coleslaw. My boyfriend ordered the grouper grinder sandwich which was amazing, he also got the seasoned fries which I personally thought were amazing, he thought they were spicy and salty(two of my favorite flavors). We had a really awesome waiter who answered all of our questions about the menu and helped us decide what to get, since everything sounded so good. My daughter in California had placed an order for me for Mother's Day and asked me if I would pick it up around 12:15. As I lived around the corner I was excited to go and get this. I had not got a chance to experience their food. The line of vehicles was not the best feeling but they had people come up to the vehicles get the names and keep it all moving like clock work. A very impressive job in providing great service. I was happy to see how efficiently they were getting the vehicles moving. The Hazel section is your basic food section, Ravines as the international flare and Downtown is everything trendy! (loved the concept of how this was set-up and wish they would go back to it !!!). Upon entering you'll notice a cute patio-esk space that features outdoor seating and step through the doors into the minimart selling various items. Inside they have a great event space for any type of party you are planning. My friends love this place but I took my family for lunch and thought it was not good at all. The service was very poor. Had to wait a while to be seated even though there was hardly anybody there for lunch. Also our waiter took over 20 minutes to come and take our food order. I would've been fine with that l I not had two-year-old hungry kids. The food though was nothing special. The soup was extremely salty. I haven't heard much about this new spot, kind of on the outskirts of downtown bham. A friend and I were walking and decided to stop in for lunch. The menu is very limited and they have a lobster shack kind of theme going for the summer I guess. We sat up at the bar, placed our order. My friend ordered 6 oysters but they ended up bringing 12. He mentioned that he only ordered half that on the Oyster order sheet he filled out. The bar tender didn't offer to do anything about that. They still ended up charging us the full amount for something we didn't order. I ordered a cold lobster roll. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Literally just cold lobster tossed in mayo served in a buttered roll. Really wish they would add some avocado or something to the sandwich to make it memorable. The $25 sandwich came with a really sad side garden salad. My friend ordered the cod sandwich and said it was no big deal. Our bill was $100 for lunch. I never felt more ripped off in my entire life. I could have gone down the street to Ocean prime and have an amazing meal for that price. On our way out they had awkward coolers with drinks and a wall selling weird things like tide pens, etc.. Originally I was going to leave a 2 star review, but as I type this review 2 hours after my dining experience, I am pretty sick with really bad diarrhea. I am going to blame it on this establishment because this was the first thing I ate all day. I wouldn't even come back if they paid me. Timing is everything ! Didn't know where I was going to end up for dinner. Was pleasantly surprised to be walking into hazel, ravines and downtown. Little did I know it also was lobster takeover menu ! What a great concept. Shared a crab cake dinner- came with rolls, corn and potatoes- 2 huge crab cakes.
