Speeds from 5-10PM every night like clockwork. Speedtest ran over cat6a, wired into a 10gig port. Completely ISP's fault.

TL;DR: HawaiianTel's gigabit service slowed to nearly unusable speeds every evening, and multiple technicians/support reps failed to fix it, even after blaming my own networking equipment and making me use their Eero router. I eventually switched back to Spectrum and returned HawaiianTel's equipment, but they later threatened collections for equipment I had already returned. Support said the bill was completely resolved, only for HawaiianTel to send another collections notice a month later for $11.97. They then closed my online account so I couldn't pay it online, and told me my only option was to pay by phone--with a mandatory $5 processing fee. On top of all that, they continued calling me weekly trying to sell me faster service when they couldn't reliably provide the plan I already had. Explanation: I'd give 0 stars if I could. We had HawaiianTel a few years ago, but they started jacking up our prices so we switched over to Spectrum. We recently moved and decided to give HawaiianTel another shot. We signed up for the 1gig/600mbps plan with them, and had nothing but issues especially at 5PM to 10PM at night, where our speeds would become unbearably slow over ethernet and Wifi, despite uploads remaining unchanged. Multiple times we were told it was due to us not using the Eero router that was included with our install, despite our household using prosumer level networking gear. We decided to humor them, and started using the included router, to no avail. A technician was sent out multiple times, but was not able to determine the cause, because as far as they were aware, our service was functioning normally... Because they came during the day, when there were no speed issues. If that was the end of it, I wouldn't be writing this review. A few months later of unbearably slow service, we decided to cancel our service and immediately switch to Spectrum, which while more expensive didn't throttle our gigabit link to 1mbps at night. After being on the phone with a representative, we cancelled our service and were instructed to return the stupid eero router, which we gladly did at the Kapolei retail store. The staff, who were extremely nice were unable to supply a receipt or proof of return. A few weeks later, I received a threatening letter from HawaiianTel saying my bill of several hundred dollars would be sent to collections DESPITE ME HAVING RETURNED THE EQUIPMENT. All the while, I'm getting calls every Friday at 6PM on the dot from HawaiianTel reps trying to get my business back by offering their 3 gig plan, when they couldn't even deliver on the 1 gig. One lengthy call with support (that had been completely outsourced overseas btw), I had cleared up the bill with a support representative and confirmed verbally, with video proof that the entire bill's $ amount had been taken care of and that would be the end of it. That wasn't the end of it. A month later, I receive yet ANOTHER letter from HawaiianTel threatening to send my account to collections for $11.97, despite the previous support representative saying the entire bill had been sorted and that was the last I'd hear from HawaiianTel. I was pretty frustrated, when I got this, but hey. It's $12. I can afford $12 if it means I never have to deal with this company ever again. I went onto their website and put in my credentials to pay the bill and.... They closed my account. I have a bill threatening collections, and they closed the easiest means of paying it. Make that make sense. The second option was to call into HawaiianTel customer support, yet again and talk with one of the customer reps from overseas, who said that the entire bill had not been settled contrary to what the other representative had claimed. I was then informed that If I would like to settle the bill I'd have to use the website. I explained that the website wouldn't let me login, because it was saying my account had been closed. I was then told my only other option was to pay over the phone WHICH HAD A $5 PROCESSING FEE. I know, it's not a lot, but the gesture of being forced into paying over the phone only to get hid by a mandatory $5 Processing Fee is a pretty direct f*ck you to any customer.

Update on Hawaiian Telcom located 1177 Bishop St. Today I needed to return a modem to Hawaiian Telcom if not it's a $200 fee . So of course decided to return it instead of getting charged . Service was friendly although I was the only customer lol . Support local

Big roll of Fiber Optic line.
    Ariel B.

We had a sales guy come to each one of our doors at Makakilo Gardens. Said he could install fiber optic for faster internet and that everyone was doing it . So we switched over. Sales rep said he would schedule a day. We agreed and said weekends. Within a week, technician came, he just started working, didn't even acknowledge us. Where was the communication saying you were coming down? To make it even worse he left a big roll of the fiber optic line, I told him I just had it fixed where nothing was sticking out, and my other half told the guy we aren't suppose to have anything mounted on our walls because of HOA violation. He still mounted it on the wall and left a big roll of fiber optic hanging on my wall like we ghetto or something. Couple weeks later another technician came and left our swing chair all the way out and I thought that was weird. Next thing I know I have two @#$&!!! Boxes on my dam wall. Now I know why he left a big ass roll. Unbelievable . ALL UNITS ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE ONE BOX EACH. Now my walls get two !!!!!!! F $&@! Bull $&@!. I left it because it is not my neighbors fault . We called customer service and these mutha $&@ wanted to charge us for redoing it?!!!!! Even though the technician knows that it's wrong , just try walking in the back of all our units. All UNITS HAVE 1 f$&@! Box. believe within the company there is no communication, no guidance for technicians (or proper training) , no customer service, etc. I give this nice lady this though, we called once and she was very apologetic and said to return the box and keep the line. But what about the other box mounted next to ours ???!!! No body fixed it yet. We gave them this whole month to come down. No one came. We called a second time and that's when they said they want to charge us to get it re routed to our neighbors ??? Guess what June 24, 2026 still f$&@@@@@ there. I had enough of this bull $$$$&&&&&@@@@ . Don't go with Hawaiian Telcom. I guess I gotta be stuck with two mutha f$$$&&@@??? Boxes on my wall. I had my other half mount the two boxes on the brick walls instead of the wall to our unit . Still yet YOUR TECHNICIANS COULDVE DONE BETTER. Shall I even talk about how they be parking in any kind parking stalls when we have home owners that park in specific spots. I gotta tell them not once but twice to move their truck even if they aren't working on my unit ?? Do better. Better yet fix this problem . (AND NO I DON'T WANT TO BE PAST AROUND ON THE PHONE, NEED SOMEONE LOCALLY TO FIX THIS) Side note: The picture below is proof that technician left a big roll hanging on my wall . I will post picture of what it used to look like before Hawaiian Telcom came in.

How and where do I turn in my cable boxes and remotes?

You can take the equipment to any of their outlets. I took mines to the Kapolei location, located on Fort Barrett Rd. I know their service is terrible and am looking to do…

What is the average wait-time to drop off residential box? Is there a long line ? What are peak hours (to avoid?) Mahalo from Kaimuki.

Aloha, Irma. The wait times for our service centers vary day by day. You can call our service center ahead of time to see what the wait time is like. The phone number to the closest service center to you is 808-643-1177 and it is located in downtown…

Aloha, Tim. You can explore parking options nearby such as street parking, parking at Capitol Place (1200 Queen Emma St. $0.75 for 1/2 hr, $1.50 1hr), Kukui Plaza (1255 Nuuanu Ave. $0.75 for 1/2 hr, $1.50 1 hr) or Ali'i Place (1099 Alakea St $0.75…

Do you have internet access in zip code 96814?

    Yes!

Where do I drop off my boxes?

Take Kapolei Pkwy towards Kapolei to Ft Barrett Rd and turn Right. Just before the next stop light is a small building on the left with the driveway right before it. Drop off your equipment inside. I'm not sure of there weekend hours.

Is there a specific number we can call on the weekends to get help with our service? I've called several numbers and have been on hold a totall of 5 hours with no representative answering the phone in the last two days. Disappointed

643-3456 Have you tried this number?

Is there really no walk-in office for customers? I was told that they only provide service over the phone or online.

I'm experiencing a two hour wait trying to call in with a problem I'm having with Hawaiian Telcom Internet.

I wanted to ask if anyone has tried Hawaiian Telcom's 1 GB Sevice? Did it work as advertised? And were you satisfied with the service?

It depends where you are for their fiber 1gb service. I'd say in general you can expect reliable speeds as long you're not too far out of town. Be aware that if you're relying on wifi it's a waste of money though. That speed will only happen if…

    What packages do you offer?

Aloha, Willie. You can check out our TV bundles on our website at http://bit.ly/TVbundles. If you share your home address and contact number in a private message, our customer service team would be happy to let you know about our current promotions.…

Am I required to sign up for a 3-year contract? I'd rather have a month to month service so I can cancel without paying a penalty.

Nothing is certain with Hawaiian Telcom, except that you will wind up paying more than you thought you would. Get on the phone with them and make them promise you that your service will be month to month. And never, ever let a company take your…

    Can I just purchase wifi?

Yes. You can buy just internet service from Hawaiian Tel.

I understand that businesses get busy and that unexpected issues happen, but there is absolutely no excuse for leaving customers waiting this long with little to no communication. At a certain point, you start wondering if anyone actually cares that you're there. You make the effort to come in, set aside your time, and wait patiently, only to sit there watching the clock while nothing happens. If there is going to be an extremely long wait, the least Spectrum can do is be upfront about it and communicate with customers instead of leaving them completely in the dark. What makes it even more frustrating is that customers are essentially forced to waste a huge portion of their day just to get basic assistance. People have jobs, appointments, families, errands, and other responsibilities. Our time matters too. Spectrum shouldn't expect customers to simply sit around indefinitely because their system or staffing can't keep up with demand. I honestly cannot understand how this is considered acceptable customer service. Waiting an unreasonable amount of time should not be treated as normal, especially when customers are paying for the service in the first place. Spectrum needs to seriously rethink how it handles customers and wait times. Better staffing, better communication, and a basic level of respect for customers' time would go a very long way. I left this experience feeling completely frustrated and disappointed. The service itself is one thing, but customer service is a huge part of the overall experience. When a company makes you feel like your time means absolutely nothing, it makes you seriously question why you're giving them your business in the first place. Do better, Spectrum. Customers deserve better than this.
