Small company, not amazing. They are good for what they are. They fill a small gap in the Home / business internet market that has reasonable prices with reasonable connection speeds. It's easy to get upset or disappointed with their service when measured up against Spectrum (Time Warner), but they have a fraction of the staff and their rates are way cheaper. Everything is relative and for that reason 3.5 stars. If you absolutely need fast internet then spend more money and get a contract with the big companies. If you just need a connection for checking email, FB, IG, no gaming or minimal streaming these guys will do just fine for a cheaper rate. I used their service for 2 years, the modem/router went out twice and speeds approached 50 mbps. Customer service is outsourced, so not amazing, but they were ok. Saved quite a bit of $ monthly compared to the big guy prices. read more

We have HDT as our business internet service provider. HDT resells Hawaiian Tel internet service. When there is an outage, as an HDT customer you cannot contact Hawaiian Tel. As a result support is delayed or ineffective. We have had outages at 2 of our office locations lasting 4 and 5 days each. After the first outage we chalked it up as a fluke. After the second outage it became apparent that HDT cannot provide support for their service and we are in the process of switching to another internet service prior. I would recommend either Hawaiian Tel or Spectrum over HDT if you are a business that needs reliable internet service. read more

If you can't wait for the next rainstorm so you can start another gambling pool with family & friends fielding bets on how long it will take for your internet service to die (I'm not even joking, it really does!), then HDT has you covered! HDT is the perfect service provider if you like to throw your money away on internet dependent services like Netflix & Hulu and rarely get the chance to watch them because the internet is out AGAIN. How AWESOME is that?!! If you get giddy with anticipation as you open your cell phone bill every month to see the amount of additional charges you incurred as a result of going over your hotspot data limit because your HDT service is constantly down, then don't walk, run to HDT! Do you have kids grumbling about being forced into online classes due to Covid-19 shutdowns? Well, HDT has the solution for you! With such spotty internet connectivity, they won't be able to attend any of their schooling. The little ones will love you for it!! While I try to figure out how to remove the rave we gave this company below, I want to stop other people from making the same mistake we made. Yes, HDT is has seductive pricing and really great workers who come immediately to set up. That's great. BUT - since day one we have had glitchy internet, internet so bad that Zoom meetings do not work. Every few minutes we freeze, making us look ridiculous to our local and mainland biz partners. Phone calls are just as bad - phone goes in and out within seconds, causing us to not be able to hear or be heard. Calls to customer service have resulted in the same response over the past two weeks: "we will update your ticket, your ticket is being looked at, we are having problems in your area, the repair man is out looking at your area now, we will let you know once the issue has been resolved." We have been hung up on twice by customer service (and we are never rude!) or maybe the phone cut out and we didn't realize. We have decided to move on, Spectrum and Hawaiian Tel are a much better way to go. A little more money but two companies that have the infrastructure and care about their customers. Super now happy. Please don't make the same mistake we made. Avoid HDT if you want to have reliable phone and or internet. read more

I worked here from November 2020 till February 8th 2021 when I was let go due to the company losing funding from HVCB. I worked as a customer service representative. I worked from home. I completely loved the job. I loved making the customers happy and answering the questions. There was plenty of bad apples who called every day and they were very upset. But I knew how to handle rejection from previous jobs I've had. So I really love the job and I'm sad I had to end. I recommend this company to anybody there a great small company. read more

Title: You get what you paid for (direct quote from their tech support team manager) Here is the breakdown: Pros: - Signed up for their cheapest package (20 Mbps down) but got 100 Mbps up and 50 Mbps down (with caveat, read below). So in a way, I got more than what I paid for... if I want to find something positive to think about - Cheap Cons: - I went through 6 modems/routers in 2 years. The modems just kept breaking down in a matter of months. The radios are not reliable. Possibly a design flaw or just poor manufacturing. It has nothing to do with heat or physical placement of the modem/router as I put it in a ventilated place in a corner of my living room connected to a surge protector. They never figured out what happened to the modem/routers. At the end, they gave me a replacement with the 5GHz radio capped at some slow speeds (eg. like 144Mbps) without telling me about the throughput cap. They assumed that would fix the problem. Speechless... - Throughput: So you think I really got 100 Mbps up and 50 Mbps down? Well, yes and no. Yes because from where I am to the telco I could really get 100 Mbps up and 50 Mbps down... since they are the next hop! But if you try to do a speed test with a server outside Hawaii or even with a local server such as UH's, you can only get 15 Mbps down max. - "You get what you paid for". I cannot imagine anyone having a job that directly serves customers can say such words, but that is exactly what I heard from the tech support manager. - Modem/router does not support port forwarding. If you want to play with an Xbox or PS4 online, or if you have IPCams you like to use... good luck! The apple is not completely rotten. I met some pretty nice people at their office when I was completely frustrated by their hardware that kept breaking down... but that doesn't mean the company is doing what they are supposed to do. 2 stars. read more

Do your self a favor, and pay a little extra for any other internet provider on island. Had HDT for almost 2 years now and have had MULTIPLE extended outages. I'm not talking a few hours, I'm talking 2-4 days. Customer service is terrible. EVERY time I've had an outage that I called to have checked I have been the one that has had to call the next day and ask what the status is. I have never ONCE been called back and told what was happening. The internet is down for around 15-30 mins minimum once a week. Then on top of that, I've never been able to log into my acct. The online acct does not work, I've talked to customer service at least 6 times and they tell me the same thing each time. Ok, we reset your password..still can't get on..hm.well I'll send that up..I call back and ask..they're not sure why? And then they tell me they will look into it and the cycle starts all over again. I've lived a lot of places with a lot of internet service providers and none have been this bad. It's not worth the trouble for a few dollars less..trust me. read more

This review is based on the internet service that was provided by HDT. The internet speed on average is about half of the speed of what we paid for. Not great, but it's tolerable if that was the only issue. The main issue like everyone else has mentioned is that we would have frequent outages and everything time we called customer service, It would either be busy (probably due to the large amount of customers calling about their outages) or the rep would say they're looking into the issue. These outages would last from a few hours to a day or 2. We're a small local businesses and we're all for supporting other small local businesses. But if you can't provide reliable service, you're making both of us look bad. read more

Starts with very courteous staff on the phone; although my problem wasn't solved the first time technician came, they immediately sent him again and he made sure I was completely satisfied.... for at most a week! Well, a year or so passed by; I kept calling every month or so when I absolutely couldnt take it anymore. At best they send someone who is baffled as to why this happens or how come their manager didn't follow up. They pretend to do something and they are convinced it will work now! It does, for a few days. Then it doesn't again. I call again. Ask for manager who is never in. They promise someone will call me back. Nobody does. Nobody comes In. It's all forgotten again. I gave up as last time My issue was "escalated to the top" and I was promised a call from the manager... never heard back. They are just really really bad. Unfortunately they have a contract with the building I'm in so free internet for tenants. I get what you pay for- nothing. Their internet spikes up and down to the point it takes 30 minutes to upload a 2 mb pic. Ridiculous. Can't do anything online. Can't work. I switched to Hawaiian telcom and I'm so happy! read more

We are having similar issues as before, 30min to download a small pdf, internet getting disconnected. HDT changed the modem, same issue. We called to get someone to come and check, the technician never showed up, never bothered to call. When we called to check, we were told they were running late and that we'd have to reschedule. No thanks !! it is a company that has no respect for its customers. They promised up an upgrade for all of our trouble but never fulfilled it. Stay away ! I get home internet service from HDT in my condo building. The wired and wireless speeds are as advertised and reliable, even during busy periods. The installation went reasonably well, although they did accidentally disconnect my phone line during the process (they fixed it before they left). Their online account & payment website is a bit glitchy; I had to call customer service to get registered properly to pay my bill online. I would prefer an automatic payment system. Their customer service is certainly better than Hawaiian telcom; and the value is better than Hawaiian telcom or Oceanic cable (actually, HT doesn't offer internet anymore to my building downtown). read more

HDT Internet service is really very good. Their phone service however is a disaster. It is ridiculously bad. We could never even hear most the conversations we tried to have by phone. I resorted to using my personal cell phone most the time to conduct my business. Kept blipping out every 10 seconds Anyway they still get four stars because the Internet service was such a huge improvement over cable or dsl, and their customer service was pretty responsive even though they could never resolve our phone issues and never issued us a credit for it. Didn't appreciate the manager Chris constantly badmouthing his former employee who set up our account. I told him I thought that was pretty unprofessional. That former employee was a valued client of ours and gave us good service with our account before he left the company. They do make you sign a contract, fyi read more

When you call them and the phone gets answered you are greeted with great Aloha. Unfortunately, it ends there. For several months we suffered with very poor service. Phone call after phone call took place. The problem would be resolved for a day or so. And then....March everything changed, the service was so poor we had to have all of our phone calls forwarded to my personnel cell phone, and I had to hotspot the computers and POS in the bakery. I was promised phone calls day after day in order to resolve this, I was even told, three times, the vice president would be returning my call shortly. Not a single phone call was returned through out March. April we chose to change providers. I find it quite unprofessional all the way around, from failing to return a call, or refusing to come to our facility to check the equipment to see if possibly the problem existed there. Instead we were scheduled for a repair 5 weeks away....It is really hard to consider yourself an established business when you have to operate off a cell phone and hotspot, while you are under contract for a service that is not being provided. I seriously would do everything I can to avoid using them in the future. Just go to Charter or Hawaiian Tel (which is the lines they lease to provide you service). read more

HORRIBLE company. Not only was the internet service completely poor and unreliable, the customer service during each reporting (and it happened over a dozen times in a single year) was bad. I'm talking slower than dial-up when the computer is twelve-feet from the modem bad, can't have more than a few devices on, computer in one room not even able to refresh email. To add insult to injury, after canceling service, they just kept charging. They stopped returning phone calls and emails. They cut off communication all together without a single answer or reply or anything. It's been MONTHS of unanswered correspondence. This company is absolutely UNPROFESSIONAL. After a dozen emails and phone calls, and months of waiting, I still have yet to get any resolution to my billing issues or even gotten a RESPONSE for chrissakes. I have NEVER in my entire life had the bad fortune of working with any company this bad before. It's despicable. Just wanted to warn anyone thinking of going with them. read more

relatives told me their wifi wasnt working at the hotel which hdt provides the internet. internet still down after power cycling and no one will do anything over the weekend and it is now late monday and still no phone call and they're leaving tomrrow so yeah 2/7 days of internet access. called support serveral times and it ALWAYS go to voicemail. read more
