I was able to talk to a real person on the phone right away who told me to Just upload the papers you wanted serve and hit a button. No upfront fees. I added few special instructions that was it. Finding a process server in Hawaii is kind of a difficult thing! Most people will probably never need a process server, and then when you do need one, your choices are limited, and very few servers have reviews on sites like Yelp. I suddenly found myself needing a process server, and so of course, I turned to Yelp. The only process server I found on Yelp had a terrible review, so I kept looking. A few servers had Google reviews, but who takes those reviews seriously? I made a few phone calls, some were never returned, and when I finally got someone on the line, he made it seem like I was inconveniencing him with my desire to bring him business and revenue, so I kept looking. Enter AAA Legal Process LLC. I don't know why I called them last, but I'm so glad I found them! They were so professional, quick, and understanding. I told them I'd never done this before, and they helped me understand which papers they would need and what the next steps would be. They attempted to serve the defendant within an hour of receiving the paperwork. When the defendant wasn't available, they went back. Within four days, they had served the defendant, and called me immediately afterward to let me know. Then they went back to the courthouse to file the paperwork so I don't have to take more time off work to handle that. Overall, it was a really great experience and worth every penny. If you find yourself needing a process server, don't bother calling the other companies - they will just aggravate you and make you crazy. I had 30 days to appear before the District Court in Hawaii. A lawyer friend in Honolulu said he had good results from AAA. I contacted them and spoke to the owner, Melissa, a young Asian woman. Melissa (by phone) instructed me to drop off my court prepared "Statements of Claim" at a very difficult-to-find office location with a receptionist. I did so and flew back to Maui. Melissa did not meet with me to discuss any details about my case, whether it was an easy or difficult case and what services she offered. This is what ruined my chances of actually serving the defendants and is cold and unprofessional. She communicates with clients like me by text or by phone. I sent her pictures by email of the two defendants and even pictures of the type of cars they were driving. I sent her text messages explaining where one defendant worked in a public area in the Honolulu airport. (This becomes relevant later). Finally, I flew back to Oahu and worked on finding these grifter defendants myself based on research online on Intelius and Spokeo. I located most of one defendant's family including her son. Of the family members I talked with some information was relevant and some was fabricated to shelter the defendant from service of process. The "relevant part" - the defendant works in a small section of an inter-island airline terminal open to the public. I was at the Hawaiian Airlines terminal yesterday and the supervisor told me that defendant left work at 12:15 p.m. and was working in the public area until her shift ended. The supervisor said that she was not trying to hide even though one worker of 29 years said she had never heard of the defendant. 99.9% of workers in that part of the terminal are Asian and most of the passengers are Asian and AAA sent a caucasian woman with no faux suitcase and no airline ticket-jacket to ask for an employee. Defendant does work in the public area and is rotated to other areas but she is available for service of process if AAA had any imagination. Hawaiian Airlines corporate refuses to cooperate with the process server. I left a message by phone for Melissa last night about sending a process server to Mililani because I thought I had found the defendant. However, nothing happened - zero contact was possible with AAA - no call-backs. I've already paid by credit card over the phone so I guess that is the end of the line. Melissa had earlier mentioned that Mililani was too far away to send a process server on short notice (Try working in L.A.). This morning I told Melissa about almost finding defendant at the airport yesterday. She did not want to do any further work on my case. I even offered to pay more money. She finally hung up on me and told me to drive Downtown and pick up my unserved complaints and a statement of what AAA had done after 2:00 p.m. This is more of the "broken legal system" that everyone is tired of. There is absolutely no justice in this system beginning with the police and continuing with trying to legally serve the defendant. The victim is now the bad guy, the culprit, ad nauseum. Just now, one of AAA's process servers called and said he would go down to the airport again and look for the defendant. I will revise my review if I see anything that shows imagination, effort and caring. If you have an easy defendant and don't want to do the work use AAA. They will knock on defendants' doors for awhile. For most cases worth any money I would not use them. Process serving could be an interesting business though haoles here might not be as effective as locals. You can have any person over 18 serve the defendant and probably have less of a headache. This is an amateur business - if you are a haole do the work yourself. The only good news is that I have possession of my condo and my unserved complaints. read more
