Really wanted to like this place based on the reviews but sadly of the 4 things we got, I didn't really like any of them. We came about 30 minutes before closing on a Friday and they were still really busy which seemed like a good sign. We ordered Gau gee for appetizers, a combo of short ribs and mochiko chicken and lau lau. Everything came out at once which was ok since I'm sure they were trying to close. My friend was super excited about his lau lau until he took first bite and it was cold. They did try to fix it but I was kind of annoyed that we still paid full price for it. The chicken wasn't my style as I was hoping more for a white meat chicken finger situation. For me, even the macaroni salad was flavorless. We LOVE Hawaiian Sun BBQ! I wish I knew about it sooner because I've been missing out for so long! Everything that we've tried is absolutely delicious! Our favorites are the Huli Huli Chicken, Kalua Pig, Meat Jun, Loco Moco, and Eggrolls! Everything is always crazy fresh and super tender. Sometimes it's hard to pick just one entree so we get a combo and it's perfect! Entrees and combos come with a scoop of macaroni salad and two scoops of rice. You really get a ton of food for the price. One time we last minute asked if it was possible to order a couple small catering sized orders of Huli Huli Chicken and Kalua Pork without Cabbage. They had it ready for us really quickly and it was amazing. The amount of food in a small order is insane and we had tons of leftovers. FYI, it freezes well! Service was prompt with menu and ice water. Ordered the BBQ Beef that included 4-5 thin slices of beef over a bed of shredded cabbage, two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. Yes!!! I finally found a good reason to try this place out! After our pumpkin patch and corn maze adventure in Snohomish, we came to Hawaiian Sun BBQ for our early dinner. We were the only customers at the time so service was super fast and efficient! I was craving oxtail soup and that is exactly what I ordered! I also had a side of rice and shared some kahlua pig and cabbage with my friends. The oxtail soup was fabulous because it had a lot of green onions and cilantro. The broth was also very tasty and ideal for hangovers! I was super full by the end of the meal, and very, very satisfied. Others in our party ordered the won ton saimin, combo plate with kalbi and loco moco, and another friend who got the oxtail soup with saimin. Everything was honestly SO tasty that I really hope I'll find another reason to go back up north to eat here again. The restaurant is owned by a Chinese family and they also cater... the great thing about this place is their affordable and delicious meals. They have a great variety of local foods, more than I've seen at other awesome Hawaiian places like Kona Kitchen and Kauai Family Restaurant. Listen, I've been a LONG time fan of this place since I discovered it back in 2013. I had never had amazing Hawaiian BBQ until Hawaiian BBQ in the U-District. But I was about to graduate so I knew I needed to find a place closer to home. I'm SO glad I looked this place up on Yelp all those years ago. This has been one of our go-to spots for takeout for a long time now. It's a nice mom & pop shop (restaurant). I do always try to support them by eating here when I can. It is probably the best place along Everett Mall Way, let alone, the city of Everett. I have also ordered one of their small trays of Mochiko chicken for a party one year, before the pandemic, of course. That's how good their mochiko chicken is. The sauce they include is also very good. I can't put my finger on what it's made of but I assume it's a house sauce. I love that you can customize your meal with ease. They don't charge extra if you want to sub all of your rice (especially for us Asian folx who have a rice cooker at home or microwave ready Bibigo brand rice - you get the point, why get rice outside when you have rice at home) with mac salad. Let me tell you, I don't like mac salad but for whatever reason, I get down with their mac salad. It is bomb! They offer an extensive menu of Hawaiian foods. I had to order the lau lau, which had pork fat, marinated pork, and butterfish wrapped in some sort of green leaves and steamed served with two scoops of white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad and with a side of spam musubi and their gau gee (fried pork dumplings). If you like crab Rangoon from American Chinese restaurants, you'll understand the goodness of the crunchy wrapping. It comes with a side of sweet and sour sauce. Spam musubi was about the size of my hand and came in two inidivually wrapped rolls of spam, sushi rice and seaweed goodness with the egg. It is legit!! The lau lau itself was kind of small, but I couldn't finish the two scoops of white rice with it, but the meat wasn't overly salty at all. They had run out of their marinated ribs which is their best seller. Two of my friends got the ox tail soup, which reminded me of pho (especially since it is made out of oxtail) but they used different spices, which I couldn't put my finger on, but it was pretty filling and good. And of course, with the Hawaiian Sun name, they offer over ten types of the canned Hawaiian sun. I got the lilikoi (black can(, but they also had the green tea, mango orange, passion fruit and such. Came here for lunch on a Sunday after craving some kalua pig. I got the Hawaiian Sun combo with kalua pig and loco moco and was pleased with the food - both were cooked to perfection (few things are as disappointing as dry meat!). The meat was really moist and hit my cravings spot on! Staff were super friendly and service was speedy. Their soups are SO good and they manage a super savory broth without sacrificing the clarity/freshness of the soup. Meat falls right off the bone! I would definitely peg this as a go-to spot for soup on a cold day, especially if I'm sick! That being said, the mac salad was more mayo than mac and the rice was dry. I also really wanted to enjoy the garlic mochiko chicken since it's one of my favorite Hawaiian BBQ dishes but it was hard to swallow. It has a really strong meat smell (not like fried chicken) and it bleeds into the flavor. The chicken was moist and the exterior was super crispy but I couldn't even finish one piece of chicken. this place has great hawaiian food and was the first place i ever tried spam musubi! i have been here since to dine in and the kalua pork and mochiko chicken are great. the place is adorably decorated as well. the staff is nice, very no frills which i actually appreciate. they let you eat in peace and are straightforward yet polite. i have seen them converse and have warm conversations with regulars which means more to me than overly friendly small talk. good prices as well. i also really like the location as it is a great spot showcasing all of everett's diverse food options. el riconsito is a city favorite and alida's bakery has some solid baked goods. read more

First, it doesn't come with mac salad, fyi - so sad but I got to have Larr's and it was yummy! I would definitely recommend the fried chicken as it comes with this sweet and sour chili sauce that is bomb on on everything we had! The place itself is on the smaller side, probably fits about 5 or so tables, however, as with most places it's take-out only for now. Sorry to say that my visit was not a good one. I had hoped the food would have been better because of all the good reviews, but sadly I was disappointed. Although the service was good, the quality of the food was lacking. From ok to not ok: mac salad, kalbi, mochiko chicken, gau gee, and then the lau lau. The two biggest let downs were the gau gee, dry and no flavor, and the lau lau, was ice cold in the middle and the tea leaves were way too mushy (prob from freezing and then heating up at least once). I'm no expert, but I was lucky enough to have lived near two Hawaiian joints that served similar food, but was much better in overall quality. The restaurant is an actual dine in sit down situation. There is a waitress taking orders rather than orders being taken at the register. It is a very quaint and cozy style sit down with roughly 7 tables seating 4 per table. The decor is interesting and captures elements of Chinese and Hawaiian both modern and dated. The waitress is nice but stern in her demeanor almost exhibiting a sense of unfriendliness at times. After speaking with her and telling her how wonderful the smells of the food is, she loosens up and smiles. We ordered the mochiko chicken, BBQ beef, spam fried rice and chicken katsu, alongside an appetizer of crispy Gau Gee. The highlight of my meal was definitely the GauGee! It was so tasty and reminded me of a meal I had in Hawaii. The fried rice was too Chinese style with the peas and carrots but it wast bad. My friend says his mochiko chicken was on the salty side and would have preferred to have the sauce cooked with the breaded chicken instead of a dip sauce. My other friend did enjoy his BBQ beef and burger. We tried all four cakes offered on the menu; haupia, rainbow, quava, and chantilly. It was flavorful but quite sweet and a little to dry for my palate. Overall, the place has ample parking and located in a nice part of town.
