Really wanted to like this place based on the reviews but sadly of the 4 things we got, I didn't really like any of them. We came about 30 minutes before closing on a Friday and they were still really busy which seemed like a good sign. We ordered Gau gee for appetizers, a combo of short ribs and mochiko chicken and lau lau. Everything came out at once which was ok since I'm sure they were trying to close. My friend was super excited about his lau lau until he took first bite and it was cold. They did try to fix it but I was kind of annoyed that we still paid full price for it. The best Hawaiian food I've ever had besides eating roasted pig right out of the pit at a luau. This place is awesome. You feel like you're in Hawaii with the way it's decorated, even though it's kitsch, it's fabulous. The service is phenomenal and genuine, even with the attitude thrown in. We LOVE Hawaiian Sun BBQ! I wish I knew about it sooner because I've been missing out for so long! Everything that we've tried is absolutely delicious! Our favorites are the Huli Huli Chicken, Kalua Pig, Meat Jun, Loco Moco, and Eggrolls! Everything is always crazy fresh and super tender. Sometimes it's hard to pick just one entree so we get a combo and it's perfect! Entrees and combos come with a scoop of macaroni salad and two scoops of rice. You really get a ton of food for the price. One time we last minute asked if it was possible to order a couple small catering sized orders of Huli Huli Chicken and Kalua Pork without Cabbage. They had it ready for us really quickly and it was amazing. The amount of food in a small order is insane and we had tons of leftovers. FYI, it freezes well! Yes!!! I finally found a good reason to try this place out! After our pumpkin patch and corn maze adventure in Snohomish, we came to Hawaiian Sun BBQ for our early dinner. We were the only customers at the time so service was super fast and efficient! I was craving oxtail soup and that is exactly what I ordered! I also had a side of rice and shared some kahlua pig and cabbage with my friends. The oxtail soup was fabulous because it had a lot of green onions and cilantro. The broth was also very tasty and ideal for hangovers! I was super full by the end of the meal, and very, very satisfied. Others in our party ordered the won ton saimin, combo plate with kalbi and loco moco, and another friend who got the oxtail soup with saimin. Everything was honestly SO tasty that I really hope I'll find another reason to go back up north to eat here again. The restaurant is owned by a Chinese family and they also cater... the great thing about this place is their affordable and delicious meals. They have a great variety of local foods, more than I've seen at other awesome Hawaiian places like Kona Kitchen and Kauai Family Restaurant. They offer an extensive menu of Hawaiian foods. I had to order the lau lau, which had pork fat, marinated pork, and butterfish wrapped in some sort of green leaves and steamed served with two scoops of white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad and with a side of spam musubi and their gau gee (fried pork dumplings). If you like crab Rangoon from American Chinese restaurants, you'll understand the goodness of the crunchy wrapping. It comes with a side of sweet and sour sauce. Spam musubi was about the size of my hand and came in two inidivually wrapped rolls of spam, sushi rice and seaweed goodness with the egg. It is legit!! The lau lau itself was kind of small, but I couldn't finish the two scoops of white rice with it, but the meat wasn't overly salty at all. They had run out of their marinated ribs which is their best seller. Two of my friends got the ox tail soup, which reminded me of pho (especially since it is made out of oxtail) but they used different spices, which I couldn't put my finger on, but it was pretty filling and good. And of course, with the Hawaiian Sun name, they offer over ten types of the canned Hawaiian sun. I got the lilikoi (black can(, but they also had the green tea, mango orange, passion fruit and such. Listen, I've been a LONG time fan of this place since I discovered it back in 2013. I had never had amazing Hawaiian BBQ until Hawaiian BBQ in the U-District. But I was about to graduate so I knew I needed to find a place closer to home. I'm SO glad I looked this place up on Yelp all those years ago. This has been one of our go-to spots for takeout for a long time now. It's a nice mom & pop shop (restaurant). I do always try to support them by eating here when I can. It is probably the best place along Everett Mall Way, let alone, the city of Everett. I have also ordered one of their small trays of Mochiko chicken for a party one year, before the pandemic, of course. That's how good their mochiko chicken is. The sauce they include is also very good. I can't put my finger on what it's made of but I assume it's a house sauce. I love that you can customize your meal with ease. They don't charge extra if you want to sub all of your rice (especially for us Asian folx who have a rice cooker at home or microwave ready Bibigo brand rice - you get the point, why get rice outside when you have rice at home) with mac salad. Let me tell you, I don't like mac salad but for whatever reason, I get down with their mac salad. It is bomb! The chicken and the kalbi ribs came with two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. Both the chicken and short ribs needed more flavor. The macaroni salad was bland. Maybe it's just me, but I have definitely had better. The fried rice was okay, but I would not order that again. The lady at the counter was not friendly and for the 3 items, I had to wait 20 minutes when I was the only customer. Came here for lunch on a Sunday after craving some kalua pig. I got the Hawaiian Sun combo with kalua pig and loco moco and was pleased with the food - both were cooked to perfection (few things are as disappointing as dry meat!). The meat was really moist and hit my cravings spot on! Staff were super friendly and service was speedy. Their soups are SO good and they manage a super savory broth without sacrificing the clarity/freshness of the soup. Meat falls right off the bone! I would definitely peg this as a go-to spot for soup on a cold day, especially if I'm sick! That being said, the mac salad was more mayo than mac and the rice was dry. I also really wanted to enjoy the garlic mochiko chicken since it's one of my favorite Hawaiian BBQ dishes but it was hard to swallow. It has a really strong meat smell (not like fried chicken) and it bleeds into the flavor. The chicken was moist and the exterior was super crispy but I couldn't even finish one piece of chicken. Maybe I just enjoyed all the crispy things today but I'll be back to try other items and will tell you, yes, you should eat here and have the Mochiko chicken, spicy or garlic. Super crispy and for a small up-charge we got the Hawaiian fried rice (spam only) as a sub for regular rice. My kid opted for the hamburger and I wasn't expecting much, but it was pretty awesome and huge for a $4 burger. I would definitely recommend the fried chicken as it comes with this sweet and sour chili sauce that is bomb on on everything we had! Also, they have an array of hawaiian fruit drinks in the fridge where you can just grab at your own free will. The portions are very generous so come hungry or you'll take some food to go. On a beautiful spring day, I was headed back to Seattle from a jaunt to Mount Vernon. I suddenly had a craving for Hawaiian style food (that I didn't have to cook myself). I decided to stop by Bobby's since I hadn't been there in awhile. Just my luck, Bobby's was temporarily closed since they were relocating. I quickly jumped on my Yelp app - I wanted Hawaiian food and nothing was gonna stop me! I ran across Hawaiian Sun B.B.Q. and decided to give it a try. Cheap. When people use that word, I'm not exactly sure what to make of it. I can say that I paid a really low price for the quality and quantity of food I received here. Amazing! I ordered mochiko chicken ($5.75), a side order of chicken katsu ($2.35), spam musubi ($1.99) and an order of fries ($1.99). My total was $13.20 before tip. Yowza!!! The mochiko chicken came with three generous pieces of boneless chicken, fried just right, and the customary rice and macaroni salad. I think the rice was a bit hard but that's the only negative thing I have to say. I've been searching for the perfect mochiko chicken and I define that by my mom's recipe, as hers is the best I've ever tasted. NOTE: People who have been to my family cookouts when my mom has been in town continue to ask about that chicken and she hasn't been to Seattle in 2 years! Anyhow, the flavors of the mochiko chicken come as close to my mom's as I've tasted, although the texture is different. The sweetness of the mochiko flour, combined with shoyu, and ginger...onolicious! NOTE: That means "tastes good." The macaroni salad could have a bit more salt but honestly, it's pretty darn good. The spam musubi was good. I'm not a fan of having sauce on the musubi, but I know other people like it. I prefer furikake on mine. The chicken katsu was also good. The panko was crisp, and fried golden. The chicken was a leaner cut than I would prefer but definitely good quality. The katsu sauce was not to my taste (I like more soy sauce) but still tasty. I had no complaints about the fries. They were hot, crispy, and tasted fantastic with ketchup! The restaurant was not crowded when we were there. Only 1-2 other tables were occupied. Service was good and the food came fairly quickly. Later, the man who was serving us, took a bit to chat. Loved talking story. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes. read more

My last day working in Everett, my coworkers took me out and I picked this place based on Yelp reviews! All of us were VERY HAPPY with the food and service. According to a coworker who visits Hawaii annually, this place is quite authentic. He ordered appetizers to treat all of us. It was really good with the special sauce. Most of us ordered Combos. You can choose two different dishes of the menu and combine them. The combo didn't look big enough at the first, but once you were into half of the combo, you were filling up! Good portion! And, it's just below $10. I highly recommended the short ribs. It was delicious, tender, and flavorful! One of the pork dishes was very good too, however, I didn't remember the name. The place itself is on the smaller side, probably fits about 5 or so tables, however, as with most places it's take-out only for now. It's definitely turning out a far superior product to what 80-90% of teriyaki places serve, though. For about $10, you get a plate of freshly cooked, freshly plated ingredients. I had one of the chicken dishes, and the egg rolls. The egg rolls were pretty much a microwave/package throw-in, but you never know when you might be in the mood for it. I happened to be in the mood for it when I found out they had run out of kimchee. The chicken dish was a little sweeter and tangier (in a citric way) than the usual teriyaki, served with shredded iceberg, two little tetons of white rice, and a scoop of mac salad. The mac salad was a house-made deal, I think, with earthy vegetables giving it a little spin. Overall, this is a place I could see hitting again and again for the food. The setting itself is just a strip mall with a few plastic tables and chairs, and a parents-and-young-daughter team staffing the joint. There's fantastic pho across the parking lot, which kinda affects the decision to come here. There's also a chinese foot massage place across the parking lot, and it looked busy.
