Harth impresses with its farm-to-table cuisine. As you enter the restaurant, you can admire their hydroponically grown greens, which are served in their salads and sides. On the rooftop of the building, they maintain 200,000 honey bees (under the domain of four queens), who produce the honey used in their cocktails and desserts. Harth is a restaurant that prides itself on using high quality, locally sourced ingredients, that are presumably fresher and more delicious than commercial ingredients sourced and shipped by traditional suppliers. Perhaps more importantly, the food itself is delicious. My wife and I ordered their roasted octopus, heirloom pork chops, and NY strip steak, and were impressed by everything. The steak in particular was spectacular. The kids menu was also a hit, with the roast chicken being a top pick. The food was a little slow to arrive, but I chalk that up to the chef's deliberation. Service was excellent, and our waiter was Juan, who was both charming and knowledgeable. He also recommended and comped us a delicious dessert with a piped chocolate congratulatory message when I mentioned it was my wife's birthday. Harth is located in the Hilton, but is well worth a visit for those not staying at the hotel. The decor and atmosphere were well suited for a date night, with banks of glass-enclosed fireplaces embedded into several of the booths. For a special occasion, I recommend requesting seating in a booth with one of the fireplaces. read more

Dined for lunch. Absolutely beautiful atmosphere and incredible, impeccable service. If rating on that alone, Harth gets 5 stars. However, the food (at least what I ate) needs some improvements. I ordered the beet salad which was uninspired and painfully bland. I ordered the porchetta sandwich for my entree. While the pork and gremolata were tasty the sandwich was dripping with oil. The bottom half of my bread was oil soaked to the point of it being disgusting. The housemade chips were little more than thinly sliced potates fried in vegetable oil. I maybe saw 5 specs of salt....hopelessly bland. I will give Harth another try for dinner in a couple weeks because I think there is really good potential. read more

I went to an American Marketing Association event here. I loved the patio and the interior and patio are beautifully decorated (great color schemes). The appetizers we were served were fantastic. I honestly was very surprised at how much I enjoyed my experience here. I don't know what it would be like for a regular meal but for appetizers on the patio I highly recommend! It is a little pricey so keep that in mind but I'd definitely go back. read more

Good: maybe a slight stretch to give this place a four, but a little closer to four than three. I had the rock fish with some potatoes and veggies. Tasty, but the fish was perhaps slightly over cooked. That was fine for me, but others may like a less well cooked fish. We started with some flatbreads which were above average. Two styles. Traditional and some type of fig topping. As you sit down, they provide some delicious bread with butter and a bacon jam. I did not know that it was bacon jam so I ate too much of it, but it was delicious. Like really delicious. Service: polite, friendly, well done Atmosphere: at bit trendy, clean, lots of fire places behind glass which were pretty nice, bright colors and quiet lighting, just off the hotel lobby floor I could go back, but might try other options in the future. read more

First, I'll say that this is probably the best restaurant in the immediate area. It's a solid restaurant that I think is a bit too pricey for what's coming out of the kitchen. The obvious pluses: good selection of wine and beer, the atmosphere is above average, and the staff seem friendly. The food is decent, but certainly not of the quality that they are representing. The flavors just don't seem to be totally there on the food that we had. It is still fairly new and may get better over time, so I'm definitely going to go back. There were some things that I loved - but most of those came with the complimentary bread prior to the meal. Not a good sign. read more

Took a friend here for a birthday dinner and the ambience here is second to none from walking into the lobby to being seated in the restaurant. The atmosphere is so amazing that it beckons you to check into the hotel and experience everything all over again. Truly my favorite spot for drinks with family and friends. It was great to find a spot in Tysons Corner that was a little more upscale dining that was not a steakhouse. Had been here once for lunch and once for dinner and had a fine experience each time. The decor is pleasant and the staff was attentive. Bacon Jam (what can I say) What I liked Salt roasted beet salad Margherita flat bread. The restaurant, located inside Hilton hotel in McLean, is very well decorated. The fire pit booth seats were very easy on the eyes as well as comfortable (although abit hard to get in and out of). The ceiling had some bulges that looked like water damage, but I'm really nitpicking here. Food-wise, we were pleasantly surprised with how different it was eventhough the menu items didn't seem too eccentric. Calamari and tomato salad had their unique twist such as fried pickles and home grown tomatoes. They were well presented and pretty good taste-wise. As for the main dishes, we had scallops which was good, but the lamb flat bread was a bit too salty (but warned as so by our server). The wait staff was fantastic. We had a bottle of wine, and our server was attentive enough to come by as soon as our glasses were nearing empty. He gave out excellent recommendations. It's a bit pricey for the kind of food they are serving, but the complete experience makes it well worth it in my opinion. read more

The service at Harth is the reason I won't return. Per the stellar reviews on Harth, my table of 4 and I had high hopes. The ambiance of Harth is sexy. Comfortable contemporary furnishing, fire pits, the appearance of this restaurant put a smile on my face. This is an ideal spot to take a date or even go for family brunch. This past Sunday, my table of four went to Harth for brunch. Instead of offering the standard brunch menu, Harth was only offering 1 of 2 breakfast buffet options--hot food and a cold food option. Since we had received a call beforehand regarding this, this was not a surprise or an issue. Service was an issue. To not go too far into it, essentially my group and I were very taken aback with lack of professional manners by the wait staff, and our server. My impression of the servers is that it appears that they are too consumed with their toxic attitudes to manage to be pleasant when taking and delivering drink orders. It's a buffet, they are only taking and delivering drinks. I even observed a server make a shoot me gesture when on the floor to one of her fellow servers. Yikes! Since, Harth was only offered a buffet I don't get the attitude of the staff. The restaurant wasn't even half full... I'm old, I have no time to complain to management, and unhappy people make me uncomfortable and a little sad. Also, my experience could have been a fluke- who knows. Location, Ambiance, and Dress Code: Harth is located in the Mclean Hilton. Both the hotel and the restaurant are nicely appointed and cozy. The hotel bar or the restaurant would be a great place to host a happy hour, dinner gathering, or have a date night. The décor is modern, but inviting, and includes earth tones, fire places, and mood lighting. A few of the dining chairs are rather uncomfortable and box you in where you have to either scrunch into the chair or put your arms high up over the chair arms. I would avoid these types of chairs if you have a choice. The dress is casual. Most people seemed to be dressed in semi-casual business attire, but the restaurant was accepting of me in my yoga pants (I normally don't do this, but circumstances required it). Harth is closed on Sunday evenings. Food and Drinks: The menu is a bit sparse for those with dietary restrictions, but all in all the food turned out decent-to-well. The only disappointment was the Fire Roasted Half Chicken with Swiss Chard, Grilled Scallion, Yukon Gold Potato Puree, and Rosemary Jus. My friend found the dish to be bland considering it was roasted for 30 minutes (note: this dish does take 30 minutes to roast and your server will notify you of the wait time). I really enjoyed the Quinoa Salad with Marinated Mushrooms, Sliced Apples, Caramelized Butternut Squash, and Apple Vinaigrette. I normally do not like fruit type dressings but the flavors blended well and I ate ever last morsel on my plate. The salads are moderately sized. My other friend enjoyed the Quinoa Salad as well but she found the Ancho Chile BBQ Shrimp & Grits to be too mushy. I also ordered the Apple Snap Mocktail and definitely recommend it. It's made with Apple Cider, Fresh Lemon, and Homemade Ginger Beer. It was quite refreshing and it was not too gingery that a child would turn up their nose at it. Major props to Harth for having Gluten-Free table bread available. That is such a rarity and a treat!! It was served with a soft butter and a bacon jam (one free jar with Yelp check-in). There are only two Gluten-Free dessert items - Flourless Chocolate Cake and Sorbet. We skipped dessert, but the Pear Sorbet sounded enticing. Prices are pretty standard for the area. Salads cost approximately $11 - $14, most entrees range in the mid $20s, mocktails cost $7, and dessert is around $10. Service: The service was good. I don't remember much about it, which is typically a good thing. The restaurant was not crowded on a Friday evening and it seemed they could easily accommodate large groups. We were not at all rushed and were able to take our time, which was appreciated. Restrooms: The restrooms are located outside of the restaurant, down the hall. They are nicely decorated and were clean. The cleaning staff provides a trashcan next to the door so you can easily discard of the paper towel you would use to open the door. This always makes me feel a bit better about the sanitation of restaurant employees' hands. Parking: Valet parking is available or you can just park right out front in the lot. This restaurant is so lovely! From the ambiance to the food quality - I enjoyed every aspect. There are multiple fireplaces and varying seating arrangements, so I loved the environment. The service and menu were great. The bread that was served with butter and bacon jam was crusty and delicious - I could've eaten the bacon jam with a spoon. I ordered the turkey sandwich with cranberry mayo and bibb lettuce on whole wheat bread, along with the bbq French fries. I ate every morsel - it was perfect. The turkey was freshly carved and was so moist - I even spread some of the bacon jam on the bread which was a smart move. My group enjoyed their food too - the steamed buns and wood-grilled pizza looked scrumptious. So glad I work in the area since I'll be back soon! read more

Had a business dinner here and was pleasantly surprised. We all sort of thought this would be a just adequate and expensive dinner in a conveniently located hotel. We actually received great service wine and fairly elevated food. We started with flatbreads which though small packed some flavor. Everyone went with fish - three salmons and a trout. Came here for date night, Friday night, early November...he made reservations for us which doesn't usually happen...so I was hoping for a great meal! We were greeted and seated...and that's where the bad orchestra of service began...like other reviewers, there isn't one person that is "responsible" or owns your table to ensure you have everything you need. The person providing me the cocktail and wine menu is not the same person who gave my BF his scotch menu...I wanted to toast to new beginnings, and our drinks came 10 min apart. Ok, oh well...as for the dinner...I started with the crab fondue...deelish! He had the shrimp and grits, his shrimp was good, but the grits were...disappointing; flavor was good, but the consistency was too...watery. For entrees, they didn't have what my BF had come here for, short rib...but I reassured him I would be just as content with the osso buco. He ordered the strip steak. Both were good, temperature for my entree was just warm, I didn't bother asking to re-heat it... For dessert, I ordered the butterscotch pudding, it was fun on the plate! This is the new and improved restaurant in the new and improved Hilton. Hilton is making this property their flagship in the area, as corporate just moved in next door, and we're all reaping the benefits. We were here for three days, so I had the breakfast buffet every morning, and had lunch and some samplings from the small bites menu on other occasions. The breakfast buffet is truly wonderful, though pricey at $22. They offer steel cut oats with an impressive amount of toppings and additions to choose from, Greek yogurt with a variety of fresh fruit (which was actually ripe and sweet), scrambled eggs and potatoes that are perfectly cooked and delicious, bacon, sausage and french toast, really wonderful croissants and an Italian country style bread that you slice yourself to make toast, fresh squeezed orange juice and muffins. There are little 2 oz. glasses of fresh juice on the buffet; today they had carrot, a fruit juice mix and a green juice that I didn't try so can't identify for you. I managed to cover quite a bit of the buffet during our 3 day stay, and it was all great quality and delish. For lunch I tried the New England lobster roll, and, being from New England, I can attest that this is the real thing; fresh and tasty lobster salad on an oversized hot dog style roll that had been slathered in a little melted butter and browned on the flat top. Doug had the turkey sandwich, which had roast turkey (the real thing, not sandwich slices) on a whole grain bread with caramelized onions and bacon jam. That's why he had to try it, the bacon jam, and it was terrific. We've tried two of the flatbread pizzas that they offer on the small bites menu, and they were good, although the chicken one was a little greasy. We also had the smoked oysters, which were great, although small at a petite 3 oyster serving. It's not cheap, but the food quality is worthy of the splurge, especially in this area of higher end dining establishments that rarely live up to the hype. My inlaws celebrated their 40th anniversary this past Saturday at Harth. I can't express how disappointed we were in the experience. From dishes being 86'd, to wines and cocktails not being available, to absentee wait staff, it was not what we hoped for such a special occasion. While the staff was friendly, when there, that was far too infreqent an occurance. Having a large convention and preparing to change the menu is not a sufficient excuse. We will not be returning. While the bacon jam was outstanding, the rest of the dishes I could have cooked (better) at home. read more

We are always searching for a new, and enjoyable, local dining experience, unfortunately we did not find it here. We were very impressed with the ambiance, and beauty of the restaurant, but that is where our enjoyable experience ends. Service was lacking to say the least, first off we had a severe communication problem with our waiter, which only laid the ground work for the extremely poor service. The menu we viewed on line was not indicative of the menu we had to choose from. My husband was interested in a flounder dish we had viewed on the online menu and we were told it was not in season, I thought summer was flounder season?, go figure. After placing our order we then had to wait close to 30 minuets for our appetizers to come out, even after 2 inquiries about them, only to be told by our server the fryer was never turned on, so that the kitchen could cook the calamari my husband had ordered, who runs a kitchen like this? Obviously somebody is asleep back in this kitchen. Even after receiving the calamari it was soggy, I'm assuming because even after someone decided to turn on the fryer, it wasn't up to temperature in order to produce crispy and hot calamari. I should add someone back there did manage to get my chipotle BBQ shrimp done correctly, and although not worth the 30 minute wait, were enjoyable. This was all conveyed to the manager by my husband and myself, he did try to rectify the situation by bringing out a very simple flat bread which as not very good, but seeing as how we did not order this, we really did not care, his intentions were good. And that brings us to the entrees. I ordered the sea scallops which came out hot, and well prepared, but very pricey for the amount you received. Yet again, my poor husband was batting 1,000 this night, his duck breast came out cold, which had to be sent back and warmed up, which meant we ate at separate times, he watched me eat my scallops, while I in turn watched him eat his newly cooked duck breast, and again very pricey for the amount of duck breast on the plate. Seeing as how the service had not gotten any better through-out the evening even after us coming right out and asking for it to improve to both the manager, and server they did finally send us a very competent server, Maria to try to salvage anything from our evening, and she had kindly brought us a delicious puff pastry with the seasons berries, and ice cream, unfortunately too little, too late, but very well intended. With all the new competition this establishment will be getting from the currently expanding Tysons Corner area, I hope they can get it together, before its to late. As for our continuing search for good dining experiences, this restaurant is definitely not on the list. read more

It was a visually appealing and beautiful restaurant and I had an average meal here although I agree with most of the comments regarding the service and the taste of the food. I really really wanted to like this place because it's an elegant and classy place to unwind at and have drinks, plus I appreciate Chef Tom's efforts with the bacon jam and beehive honey farm on the roof of the hotel, BUT there was nothing really extraordinary about the food. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Pork chop had a nice barbecue sauce but did not have much flavor or juiciness in the meat; rockfish was fresh but the curry lacked spice and flavor; nothing special about the flat breads. The chocolate cupcake was yummy but not something you couldn't buy in a bakery or bake on your own. I don't mind spending money on good food but to be perfectly honest, I prefer Vinifera or Entyse for hotel restaurants. Also, our table's server did not have much of a personality, just part of the routine. It wasn't a bad experience at all; just wish I had spent my Friday dinner where I could've gotten some good food, especially because I was really hungry. read more

There's *alot* to like about Harth - most of it is already written here, so at the risk of being redundant: - The space is just gorgeous. Huge but still cozy feeling, and the massive space allows nice spacing between the tables. Beautifully designed so it just feels great being there, and its nice enough to feel a jacket and tie is appropriate yet with a comfortable feel that makes casual dress seem fine too. - The service has been just perfect. Almost doting but not. Very professional, yet warm. - The applewood bacon jam. I made this years ago but never had it in a restaurant. Well, they've got it and its feaking fabulous. So for that matter is the sweet butter served with the bread. - The food is very good. I've been there for lunch 3 times, and had the same thing each time - the bacon jam glazed salmon. Mind you the whole menu is inviting, but I'm a huge salmon fan and this rendition is so good I just can't help ordering it again (but next time I will force myself to stray). The collards served with it are magnificent, and 2 out of 3 times so were the grits. The last time they had a bad grits day - they were watery and flat tasting - but that was the only flaw. The house chopped salad (the only other item I tried was wonderful. This could be a 5 star place - I'll have it give it a shot at dinner and check out the wine list as well. We'll see. I do know its the perfect lunch place - nice enough for a business lunch but not over the top, varied enough menu for any taste, and a great venue. I don't think I have ever given a 5 star review before but our recent family dinner at Harth was really delicious and wonderful! This was my 3rd meal here. I have returned mainly for the quiet and elegant atmosphere, easy parking and good food choices, which are important for my older parents. This time we had 8 for a family birthday with a wide age range and could not have been more pleased. My NY strip was perfectly cooked and rivaled some of the best steakhouses. And the frites were piping hot and perfect. Everyone else was super happy with their entrees, from salad to flatbread to muscles, etc. The staff was lovely about my mothers birthday and we ft very pampered. My only complaint was that the cocktails were on the small and weak side. I switched to wine. Overall, well.done Harth! read more

It took him thirty minutes to get our drink orders and our table of 3 was there for 2+ hours waiting on him to bring the drinks then food then the check. The saving grace was when the manager came to check on our table and I told him the Brussels were soggy even though listed as crispy on the menu. I got one glass of wine and the cheapest entree (chicken) and while it was good, my bill was $40 for a big pile of collars greens. That's another thing, the menu listed butternut squash gnocchi as a side, it literally had 5 pieces scattered around the plate sogging in collard greens juice. We came here for brunch the other day for a friend's birthday. It was close by and located inside the newly renovated Hilton hotel. It was pretty empty inside, I think we were only 1 out of 2 tables inside - but our server mentioned that they just opened this past April, so it's probably just starting to pick up some business. The atmosphere and furniture inside are nice. Their drink selection is presented on an iPad, which was pretty cool. Definitely try out their pomegranate mojito... it's delicious! We had bacon jam with our bread which was also surprisingly good. For our entrees, my boyfriend and I ordered the crab mac'n'cheese and the steak frites. We enjoyed both entrees, although I thought the fries that came with my steak frites were a little too salty. I also liked the sauce that came with the steak frites, which was some kind of mix of hot and BBQ sauce together. The service was good, it was a little slow at first but our server was really nice. 2nd visit here and have to say, the warm apple tart with ice cream was amaaazing here! The best thing we ordered here yet! Still dreaming of it over a week later. By comparison I got the most tiny little sliver of flourless chocolate cake for $10 that just "meh" (not worth it). I really wished I could have exchanged it for a second tart instead! Decor is nice but little over the top, I like the double sided fireplace and the booths are comfy and functional. Service is great, everything is clean. Bread is fresh, salad is crisp, other than that food is average. I went there few times and nothing stood out. If the price was not that high, I would have given it 3 stars, but for the price, I do expect more and hence 2 stars. Food looks sophisticated but does not stand up to the taste. Went here for Sunday brunch with my bestie. Walking in it has a nice ambience, the decor was very glam chic too which we loved. The staff was very professional and attentive even though the brunch consisted of it being buffet style. They have plenty of options for the buffet brunch, steal cut oatmeal (with garnishes on the side), scrambled eggs (made to perfection), bakery goodies, DONUTS (YUM), yogurt parfait, and so many more options. This resturant is a great addition to the tysons corner area! The space is beautifull with lots of great tile work and comfy seating, but the food is the star of the show!
