I had the cheeseburger with fries. The burgers were inconsistent. My friend's came with pickles while mine did not. The burger itself was fine, but unremarkable. The fries were very greasy and soggy. Unfortunately, convenience does not outweigh service and quality. Because I was staying at the Grayson Hotel, dining at Harta was a no-brainer. On the day of arrival, I checked in pretty late and was too tired to freshen up to find somewhere else for dinner, so Harta we go. The crab bisque was surprisingly tasty with a good amount of crab, and the Heirloom Beets did not have enough cirtus or goat cheese for the quantity of beets. I ordered the Steak Frites medium-rare and it came WELL-DONE! Cutting through the steak had shook the whole table, and it was a jaw-workout to eat. While service was good during dinner service, we had the complete opposite experience each time during breakfast. Slow wait, not friendly. Severely overpriced for what you got, thankfully we had free breakfast from AMEX travel, but it was just so bad we stopped going the remainder of our stay at the Grayson. read more

Stayed at the Grayson Hotel and had free breakfast and a dining credit to use during our weekend stay. The space itself is very modern and decorated nicely. The staff were all extremely kind. We even sat at the bar one afternoon to read for a bit and they allowed us to just enjoy sitting in the space which was so gracious of them - thank you! We had the option of the buffet or ordering off the menu for our breakfast options. We chose to order of the menu both days and had: breakfast sandwich, avocado toast, fruit plate, bacon and cheddar omelette, oatmeal and bowl of berries as well as oat milk lattes. We enjoyed our food and would order all again except I would recommend avoiding the $16 fruit plate as it was like 10 cubes of melon. My friend and I grabbed an early Sunday dinner after going to the NYPL. We weren't familiar with Harta or the hotel it's in, but with so many places around there packed, I was glad to get a reservation. The waitress initially seated us by the door, and we asked to move. It was too chilly there and much cozier within the interior of the restaurant. We started with the charred eggplant and pita. The warm, fluffy pita drizzled with olive oil was a big hit. The spread paired well with the pita. I just wanted something small and had the crab bisque. It had an unexpected kick, which I enjoyed. Hearty and lots of flavour. My friend ordered the burger. We came in here right on time for a reservation, and stood by the empty hostess stand for an inordinately long time (around 10 minutes) before anyone greeted us. The restaurant was relatively empty of customers and several staff were standing around, so I'm not sure what the problem was. Off to a bad start... They seated us and I was impressed by the table. A lot of NYC restaurants are pretty cramped, but since this is a hotel restaurant, there's a bit more space around each of the tables and we felt like we had room to breathe. The dining area is decorated nicely, and it's fairly upscale but not too stuffy. Our server took a couple minutes to come by, but was friendly enough once he did. We shared a caesar salad to start, and I had a filet mignon. The caesar salad was very good. The dressing was rich and umami, it was absolutely smothered in parmesan, and the croutons were fun and plentiful. I would 100% order this again. Unfortunately, my filet just did not come out how I asked for it. I ordered it medium rare, so I was definitely expecting juicy and red, but it came out rare, bordering on blue. It was hard for me to stomach it. I would have asked for it to be taken back, but our waiter didn't come around. Initially I couldn't get to the center because I didn't have a steak knife, and I had eaten several of the edges with a butter knife before anyone checked on us. By the time I had a proper knife and could see the center, service had once again dwindled, and I didn't get the chance to send it back. Overall, not impressed. After searching for what felt like forever for good restaurant, we found Harta and were super excited to try it out. The restaurant was spacious and well decorated. Unfortunately, that's where the good part must end. We had a reservation and arrived on time. Then, we waited at the front desk for what felt like forever watching workers walk past whilst we waited to be seated (on time). After maybe ten minutes we were sat at our table. We ordered a Caesar salad as an appetizer and I got steak frites. The Caesar salad was fantastic, absolutely no notes. It was fairly large, the croutons were crunchy and delicious, and it was well sauced. The steak frites left something to be desired. The fries were good, the gravy? was not my favorite, and the steak was verrrryy fatty. This might be normal but I was not expecting it. After getting our food, we did not see our server again. We got our check from a different server and were able to leave. If you want a good Caesar salad, definitely call one in here! If you want anything else however, I would look elsewhere. read more

We stumbled upon Harta during that 3/3:30 hour on a Sunday in NYC when most restaurants are in transition from lunch to dinner. Walked in and thought it was lovely and comfortable. The food was delicious. The appetizers not pictured were the burrata and guacamole. Very well done. Everything was delicious. The panna cotta was more spiced than passion fruit. Still good. Standouts for me were the guac and mushroom risotto. This place is very vegetarian friendly. Service was okay and like I mentioned we went at a transition time. We dined there last night and food was great. We went for an early dinner and during happy hour and were able to take advantage of the happy hour specials (both food and drinks). We loved the salmon rice cakes, hot honey wings, meatballs, and potato & chorizo croquettes. The branzino was also really good. One member of our party is Gluten Free and plenty of options for her to choose from. Restaurant also has a nice vibe and was not too noisy so we could actually hear each other. There was a private event going on and thus service was spotty and it took a while to get our orders. However, they acknowledged this right away, were apologetic and comp'd us dessert. Really appreciate and applaud them for doing this. We will definitely be back and excited to add this to our rotation. read more

Currently staying at the Grayson Hotel, a Hyatt hotel. As Hyatt globalist, breakfast is included in our stay. The breakfast is at the Lobby of the hotel, provided by Harta. My daughter has A LOT of allergies and we notified our waitress and she talked to the chef. Unfortunately he was not able to make accommodations for her so the only thing she was able to eat was a bowl of fruit. We were very disappointed, we have never come across any restaurant that couldn't accommodate. Aside from my daughter, I had the breakfast sandwich wish was ok. My son had a French toast and that was pretty good. The avocado toast was misleading, it's actually guacamole on toast. Not the flavor profile I was expecting for breakfast. Service was pretty slow for a not busy Friday morning. I feel like the waitress kinda blew us off after she found out we have hotel vouchers, but we still gave a good tip. Later the same evening we ended up eating here for dinner as well. Not really by choice, only because our day got the better of us. My husband talked to the hostess to actually make sure they can accommodate for my daughter. I guess the chef was different because we had no issues with ordering food. Service was again slow and not very attentive. The following morning we were seated with the same waitress. And again we talked about Zoey's allergies and that we had no issues at dinner the night before. The chef was different so this time we were able to order bacon and sausage for my daughter. Which she ate with no issues. I believe my husband talked to a manager too, while I stepped away. Food took FOREVER! There was at least one table who sat way after us and they got their food first. My husband even had to get up and get coffee and no one ever gave us water, when all other tables around us had water. It seemed like they were understaffed, our waitress never came back to check on us after our food came out. Pretty big disappointment overall. BREAKFAST (April): We were guests at the hotel and decided to get breakfast before hitting the road. I ordered the H&H Bagel with lox. They forgot to bring the cream cheese, so I had to ask for it. The bagel was, by NY standards (and H&H standards), not the most fresh I've ever had, so it was slightly disappointing, but the fish was fresh. Potatoes were cooked perfectly but a little over-salted. My husband ordered a breakfast sandwich which he said was fine, but again, over-salted taters. DINNER (July): We came back and it was during NYC Restaurant Week, so we had the chance to have a 3-course meal. - Appetizers: I had the burrata, which was so delicious. The toasted bread was wonderful and the addition of the artichokes was really yummy. Tomatoes were SO good. My husband had the fried calamari. It was SLIGHTLY overcooked (rubbery), but tasty and had a nice kick. The addition of the pickled peppers was nice. - Entrees: I ordered the salmon and asked for it medium-rare. It was cooked perfectly. The charred eggplant/tomato on the side was delicious and the pumpkin seed gremolata gave it a nice nutty flavor with the sweet potato underneath. My husband ordered the branzino -- the flavors were fabulous but unfortunately again fro him, it was slightly overcooked/dry. - Desserts: I had the pistachio soft serve ice cream, which had crunched up phyllo dough on top and honey. I am not a super-sweet-dessert person, so this was perfectly light and refreshing for me. He even checked in from time to time to make sure we were good. The ambiance and decor I liked a lot. Very inviting and chic. A new spot with potential This new spot opened in November 2022. It has all the makings of a cool spot but needs a few tweaks. The Burger was prepared upside down where the burger was on top of the condiments which had an adverse effect on the taste of the burger. On the first bite I thought it was lacking taste and flavor (original rating: C) once I flipped the burger and ate it the way it should be the rating flipped from a C to an A rating. The Shishito peppers were perfect (rating A) The service was good The ambiance has all the makings of being a great spot with a second floor called Harta Bar which I think has a much better vibe than any rooftop bar in terms of space and vibe. The restaurant is located in the lobby of a hotel so definitely sit further back if you don't want to be right by the rotating doors. The interior was very nice and color, but overall lighting is dark. Some dishes tasted better than others. The shrimp appetizer blew the beets appetizer out of the water. The chicken tagine was huge but it was missing something. The black bass entree was phenomenal. Desserts were okay. Every season it is a tradition for my friend and me to participate in Restaurant Week. This season we decided to try the lunch pre-fix menu at Harta Mediterranean Brasserie. I picked this menu in particular because of the variety they offered and the fact that I hadn't had chicken tagine in a very long time. For the pre-fixe lunch we had the option of picking a small plate and a main dish. For my small plate I chose the tuna crudo. The tuna had a nice combination of flavors which had me pleasantly surprised. Roasted peppers were layered between thinly sliced raw tuna and hazelnut pieces added some additional texture to the dish. Thinly sliced green onions also helped to balance out the flavors. There was a sauce that everything was laid over that provided the perfect amount of salt to the dish. Overall a very pleasant light appetizer! Onto the entree, the chicken tagine. The chicken itself was super moist and flavorful which made this dish absolutely delicious. There was a slight sweetness to go with the savory flavor of the nicely seasoned chicken. You receive a chicken breast and attached thigh to make for good sized portion for the price. The chicken was served over a mixture of rice and vermicelli pilaf with caramelized onions and pomegranate mixed in. I particularly enjoyed the texture of the pilaf and was overall very happy with this dish. The service was also on point. I was seated immediately and our waitress checked in appropriately (as in not too much or too little). She asked if we had questions and was happy to provide her thoughts on what was popular and what her favorite small dish was (it was the Tuna Crudo and I completely agree that it was great). Overall, a fantastic experience from what I believe to be a newer restaurant (at least at the time of this review). Would recommend! read more

Harta, a Mediterranean brassiere, is located on the lower floor of the new Grayson Hotel on W 39th St. Since my wife and I were staying here on our holiday NYC trip decided to take advantage to enjoy breakfast before venturing out on the streets of Manhattan. The decor was very upscale with a modern twist. As we sat at a small round table I studied the menu and decided upon the Breakfast Sandwich. The menu described it as applewood smoked bacon, two eggs, Vermont cheddar, brioche bun, crispy Yukon Gold potatoes. It's prepared by some firepower in the kitchen from the team of Apicii, led by Chief Culinary Officer Jonathon Benno and Executive Chef Mark Zuckerman. Michelin stars seem to be circulating around this place so had to have my first NYC meal here. When my plate was placed in front of me I was in awe. It looked and smelled so good. Great presentation. This was a huge egg sandwich where I guess contained four eggs. I had to cut it in half and after one bit it had outstanding flavor. The eggs were dark yellow with cheese on it where must have came from healthy free roaming chickens. The bacon was delightful and something took some care to give it tasty flavor. The potatoes were amazing too. It was a lot of food which pretty much filled me up for the rest of the day. Overall with the excellent breakfast was a great staff and atmosphere. read more

Restaurant in the hotel I was staying at, I have tried half of the menu items while staying here. Nothing was special about the food , mostly bland food with fancy names. My biggest disappointment was the lox bagels and the avocado toast, really hard to mess that up but they somehow did. Some of the prices they have are not justifiable for the size of the food. They have fantastic seating areas inside and outside but the food is much more important. Service was ok. I also ordered the steak and eggs with the steak being medium rare and received it overcooked. Just an awful experience all around. read more

New restaurant and bar, in a new hotel! This was a nice, albeit pricey, option for a meal before a broadway show. A little less touristy than options closer to the theaters. And the space is great, lots of light and a wide open setting that was really welcoming. We tried a number of the small plates, and they were good overall. The lamb ribs were fine, maybe a bit overcooked but interesting flavoring that reminded me of a bowl of pho. The octopus and shrimp were also fine. This is a restaurant located inside of a hotel. We came here for restaurant week, eager to try their Mediterranean menu. The hostess was very welcoming, social and seated up promptly . Upon being seated it did take a little while for our waiter to greet us and take our order but it gave us time to throughly look through the menu . The portions of the appetizers are great and super tasty . For the main course the Brodetto and tuna was ordered . The Brodetto oddly was my least favorite thing we ate that night . And the tuba was the best . Perfectly rare . The accompaniments we're all delicious and flavorful . Housed on the first floor of the Grayson Hotel, Harta is a beautiful, civilized restaurant with pleasant indoor and outdoor seating. Service was impeccable; the food that a friend and I tried on our recent lunchtime visit was fair to good for this price range. We shared a number of small plates: - Badger Flame Beets (Vermont Creamery chevre, pistachio vinaigrette; $18) were quite lovely with substantial chunks of sweet, roasted, golden beets tossed with pleasantly peppery watercress, a perfect (and not overwhelming to me) amount of chevre and a light sprinkling of pistachio. The salad was nicely -- not overly -- dressed. - Tuna Crudo (roasted pepper, lemon, hazelnut, green onion; $24) was fair, the tuna a touch less fresh than what one might find at a good sushi restaurant. I loved that it was interspersed with red peppers, cut in the same size and shape as the tuna as it was visually enjoyable -- though I could see cynics being unhappy with the optical illusion of having more tuna than was actually there. The slight sweetness of the vegetables worked very nicely with the other elements in the dish, but I found the thick, creamy sauce that was underlay everything a bit bonk-you-over-the-head. A crudo, in my view, should showcase very fresh fish, barely dressed with olive oil. The sauce seemed like a calculated cover-up for less-than-perfect fish. - Octopus (romesco, eggplant, cabbage, kohlrabi; $28) was a similarly mixed dish in my view, overly busy with a mishmash of disparate ingredients that didn't quite come together for me. The octopus itself was quite lovely --tender, perfectly charred, with all slippery skin removed -- though at two small tendrils, a small portion for the price. Rather than cabbage, my dish appeared to have been made with shredded iceberg lettuce, which was a bit wilted and not my cup of tea. Eggplant came in the form of a small smear of something akin to baba ganoush, which was enjoyable on its own, but not in my view a good match for octopus. And as much as I love hazelnuts, the addition did not really make sense in terms of taste or texture. Wines by the glass were marked up astronomically, which I object to as a matter of principle. (Wine should be for the masses, no less accessible than beer.) But the list was fairly well curated, with a nice geographic mix and a few lesser-known, but excellent, wineries. Would return to try other dishes as a matter of curiosity, but preferably on an expense account. :) read more

Came to Harta during Restaurant Week Winter 2023. Our waitress Ksenia was very attentive and provided great insight into each dish we selected. To start, we ordered the kale Caesar salad and lamb ribs. The salad was light and refreshing. The lamb ribs were delicious and the tzatziki sauce accompanied the meat beautifully. For entrees the black bass was great and I really enjoyed the vadouvan broth. The black angus sirloin was great. The cocktail called Vanille was a highlight and enjoyable for folks who like drinks on the sweeter side. One part of my dining experience that I was not a fan of was the dessert. The basque cheesecake was too tart for my liking and the quince crostata did not taste restaurant worthy. read more

The eggplant dip was smoky and spicy, and came with a wonderful bread that looked like it had everything bagel seasoning on it.
