We completed our day at the Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art. Now we were hungry. I looked up in Yelp for local restaurants and Harry's Stone Grill came up. So drove around looking for a place when we did come upon Harry's. The parking lot was almost full. We entered and spoke to hostess and received a possible 45 minute wait; lobby was full; but we put our name down. Tired to see if sitting room in bar but packed. People seemed to be moving at steady pace. We were actually seated in about 25 minutes. Waitresses and waiters bustling about, our waitress was Alyssa and promptly attended us but said she was really busy but would get us started. Water; drink order placed. Took awhile for drinks since bar was full. She stopped by and asked if we wanted an appetizer or bread while waiting. We asked for bread and soon returned with nice pumpernickel loaf and butter. She came back and took food orders and drinks followed. It was a bit of a wait but this place was humming. Staff dashing left and right and at times close calls as they took care of patrons. Ordered prime rib special medium and rare. Salads came pretty quick and very tasty and looked fresh. Alyssa kept us informed all the way through our dining process. We were so pleased by her service. Hadn't had service like this in a long time- top notch. Our steaks arrived and were perfect! I highly recommend trying this place! Not sure how i will be able to try any other app's next time. They hit the spot - a solid 5 belly rubs! When the steak (10 oz Ribeye) arrived, it was good sized, and the sides were decent size (Potato was smaller - but was well set up - loaded - with lots of butter and sour cream on the sides. Okra was the second side, it was on the smaller side, but well cooked. fried crisp but still soft in the middle. The steak was cooked medium like i asked. it was a thinner cut being the 10oz, but it filled the plate. But here is where i started having some issues. the steak was tough, tough to cut and tough to chew (Yes i let it set 5 minutes before i cut into it). The meat didn't have a lot of flavor to it at all, But the major issue i had was the onions and mushrooms that i got as a steak topper wasn't done enough for me. They could have used a few more minutes on the grill, soften them up. So overall, I rate them with a 4.71 Belly rubs. I have tried this place more than once and it has so much potential. However, the food is sub par. Service is good, nothing spectacular. The environment is nice as far as a "steak house" goes! No wonder why they call this place the Stone Grill, their steak is bout as hard as a stone. Second, their mashed potatoes were instant potatoes. It isn't a good place if the taters aren't real. Third, their taxidermy job was HORRENDOUS, my great, great, great, GREAT, grandfather could have done a better job buried in his grave. The good: steaks ordered were cooked well and everyone said they tasted great. The friend mushrooms were a stand out appetizer and had so much flavor. The bad- our server was really struggling. It seemed they had been pretty busy before we got there but she struggled from start to finish with timing, remembering items, and just being available. We were traveling and always try to pick places we don't have at home. HSG did not disappoint. The waitress was great. The food was timed perfectly between "courses". My husband had pork chops, and I had ribs. Both were great! I am kind of a rib snob and can be very critical. These were tender, juicy, and had lots of meat. It was like they hung every stuffed animal head they could buy on the walls. I suppose they're going for a hunting lodge feel but there's much work to do there. We ordered fried pickles with out drinks to give us time to look over the extensive menu. Several minutes later we ordered our meals and still no appetizer, which appeared about 20 minutes later, just before our entrees. Not good. My cajun chicken pasta had the consistency and taste of something La Choy might have put in a can. Pretty unappetizing and unpleasant. My gf's pork tenderloin sandwich (the official state food) was the smallest and most tasteless she had ever had. We will not be going back. read more

It is definitely not gonna be a four-star ambience restaurant that service was definitely four star five star the food was more between a three and a five. I had to send steak back once and when she brought it back out, it wasn't much different than the first time and I am a person who can't I like it pink I don't want it red at all because then it's kind of gooshie doesn't work for me. I had already taken it out out of the shell cause that's so much easier obviously and the asparagus was cooked perfectly. Harry's is excellent, the service is spot on the food is just as good. We typically eat outside they do have a bar off to the side and of course the inside dinning area. If your a wildlife person maybe not the best place to be because there is at least 75-100 wildlife taxidermy mounts in the dinning room. read more

Aside from the cute town and little shops down Main Street, the riverfront, and beautiful historic homes, this restaurant definitely provides a mom and pop feel. From the other customers to the staff everyone was polite. My server was very busy with a room full of people and not once did she fall behind and she was very attentive. The chicken and rice soup is very creamy (like cream of crab) and absolutely comforting. The sampler platter was average, the raspberry sauce for the jalapeño poppers was really good. Seafood pasta was on the bland side and the scallops were very small. I was able to get a side of old bay and that made the pasta perfect flavor wise. Pasta had a nice cream sauce. The food was excellent. Don't really think the cut of steak was worth the price, but it was prepared well. Everyone had something different which speaks to how diverse the menu is. Somehow we got an order of green beans when we had ordered fries...the waiter was told but fries where never brought out. If you don't like taxidermy as an art form, the decor might be off-putting, but for 4 weary travelers, it was a clean and comfortable dining room. The dressing for the Caesar salad did not have a good taste. We also got the salmon and it was also very tough. It's was not flakey fall apart salmon. You almost needed a knife to cut through it. The green beans were 10/10. Mac and cheese was pretty good 7/10. The restaurant was nice and clean. Probably won't be back unfortunately since our main course was so awful. read more
