On the west end of the historic district, I found one of those unique shops that appeal to the gourmet inside me. I have found a few similar shops around the state and now that I've experienced the concept, I stop whenever I find one. This shop carries lots of balsamic vinegars and olive oils: All kinds of flavor combinations that you can pour a small amount into a disposable mini cup for tasting before you purchase. Along the walls are packaged seasonings, rubs, soups, and crock pot additions too. So, basically, if you like adding layers of flavor, here is the place to visit. I found a bottle of medium depth flavored olive oil that I'm looking forward to trying on some salads as well as cooking with. Review #3400

Try the Tuscan Herb extra virgin olive oil!

We stumbled upon this little shop while wandering around Madison. I love to cook so of course I had to take a peak inside. There's a huge selection of balsamic vinegars, olive oils, and seasoning blends that ALL have tasters. They also have some other products like dried pasta, sauces, salsa, honey, and jams. We ended up purchasing a bottle of Italian Tuscan Herb Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a pack of Halftime Chili seasoning. The olive oil is super tasty, especially when we add some parm cheese to it and dip Italian bread in it! We haven't used the chili seasoning, yet. I'll be sure to stop back in this shop to try a few other things next time we are in town.

The store has tons of spice blends, infused olive oils, and balsamic vinegar- And you can sample it all!

If I lived in Madison I could easily be at this store every day of the week... They have so many different spice rubs, seasonings, different types of salt, and infused olive oil and balsamic vinegars. This is definitely a store for someone who loves to cook! And the best part? You can sample anything and everything they sell in the store. My husband and I spent close to 45 minutes in here, but it was so worth our time!

You'll also find some dipping seasonings (for bread), other sauces, and condiments. We opted for the traditional white vinaigrette to pair with an olive oil. Really looking forward to enjoying it on salads or bread. The employee was key in assisting us on finding bottles we would prefer. Small store that packs in a lot of items. I was blown away at the variety of balsamic vinegar and olive oils that are available at Zi Olive. I was told they have over 50 varieties of infused olive oil! Self-serve tasting is available for all of the balsamic vinegars and olive oils. The staff were super friendly and helpful, suggesting some interesting flavor combinations. We purchased the extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) with 2 infused oils (blood orange and black cherry) to mix with it for TASTY salad dressings. We also purchased the habanero olive oil which we have really enjoyed when cooking meats. There will be a never-ending combo of oil and vinegar combinations on our salads, breads, and meats. I know exactly where I'm headed when I need a great hostess gift! Thank you Zi Olive!

I am a regular customer of this business and love every single product I have purchased here! No exaggerations at all, seriously! Sally is always so helpful and kind, as well as the owners too. I love supporting small local businesses. My regular purchases include: * Garlic Infused Olive Oil (I cannot have garlic, and this is allowable on my food plan...plus it's delicious and makes everything tastes so much better than plain olive oil, in my opinion anyway). * Denissimo Balsamic Vinegar (this is a super rich, decadent and aged vinegar, and so worth the cost as it's a premium product). *Honey Ginger White Balsamic Vinegar (I love Ginger and Honey and this flavor is true to a perfect combination on the two). *Lemongrass-Mint White Balsamic Vinegar (if you like Lemongrass you will love this too!) *Montgomery Cherry Rosé Balsamic Vinegar (this is another of my favorites, it's sweet and tart and lovely!). *Sicilian Lemon White Balsamic Vinegar (I absolutely love love love lemons and this is another favorite). *Lemon Stuffed Manzanilla Olives from Spain (TO DIE FOR!!!!) *Orange Stuffed Manzanilla Olives from Spain (equally delicious and the lemon stuffed olives, they are sweeter and I enjoy them regularly, but I do favor the lemon ones more). *Tarragon White Balsamic Vinegar (if you like Tarragon then this is for you, it cod very strong and not much is needed to add this savory flavor to any dish it might complement). I think one of my favorite things about visiting this establishment is that they are always so friendly, you can sample any oil or vinegar you'd like, and they provide suggestions to cater towards your palate. The ambiance in the store on Brownsboro Rd was haute cuisine, and once they get the new location on Bardstown Rd completely set up, I am confident it will be the same also. If you love to cook and require quality ingredients, go visit them, you will not be disappointed!

He said, "I have something for you to try! Do you want to try it?! I've been perfecting it!" How can I say no to something so deliciously mysterious. So I said yes again. He darted to the back to get his enigmatic edible concoction. I'm learning that, in general, in life, saying yes to new things is usually the correct answer. The man came back out carrying a tiny Dixie cup with a sample of raspberry balsamic vinegar and Meyer lemon olive oil. "Swirl it around and drink it down like a shot!" The man said. "It tastes like the most delicious salad you've ever tasted!" And wouldn't you know: the man was right! It turns out, homeboy used to work in a restaurant, and he loves to cook, too. As I was tasting the vinegary oil, homie told me about the origins of the vinegar and oil I was tasting, what proportions to use to make a vinaigrette, and how else I could use them (balsamic vinegar in a cocktail!). I ended up buying a bottle each of the raspberry balsamic vinegar and Meyer lemon olive oil, and both have been probably my best purchases of 2025. All this to say: The customer service at The Wild Olive is exemplary. The people -- or more particular, this dude I encountered -- love food and have lots of recommendations for how to use the oils and vinegars in food and while cooking and baking. You can also ask to taste any of the oils or vinegars in the shop. As many as you want! When you find one that you like, there are two different sized bottles to choose from: 250 ml and 500 ml. The variety of oil and vinegar at The Wild Olive is amazing, so you'll probably want to taste some before you commit. There is also a section with gourmet goods, like pasta, tapenade, flavored salts, tinned fish and nuts. Plus, a refrigerated section with salami and cold San Pellegrino. When I run out of my olive oil and vinegar, I will be making a trip back to Nashville to hit up The Wild Olive again. This is now one of my favorite shops in central Indiana.

All of these attributes really help accentuate the main attractions - the counters of balsamic vinegar and olive oils. My MIL was after a particular flavor. The two women working were extremely friendly and in the process of redecorating the store for springtime. They informed us that we could sample whatever we wanted. Yay! I've been to olive oil shops like this in other touristy areas and they've had the bread available to the customer next to the dispensers for self-service. This was pre-covid, so I'm sure bread wasn't readily available during this visit to cut down on contamination. I get that, but it personally deterred me from sampling. I didn't want to bother the shop owners every time I wanted something - which would have been a lot. :) I think the prices were around $16-$20 per bottle depending on the size. So, so many flavors from salty to savory to sweet. Unique flavors. So unique that you should definitely try them before you buy. Highly recommend!
