Stopped in here for breakfast on a weekend trip to Madison. It was crowded, which to me was a great sign that it's well loved. It did not disappoint. My iced pumpkin spice was the best iced PSL I've ever had (and I've had many). My bacon cheddar bagel sandwich was incredible too, toasted perfectly. Stopped by to grab a quick coffee and breakfast on our way out of Madison after a weekend trip. They had a pretty standard coffee shop drink menu. I got a medium roast drip with almond milk and my partner got a matcha latte. Both of the drinks were average. I also got the Santa Fe Veggie Bagel which was satisfying. I was impressed by the price - two drinks and a bagel were all under $20, which is not usually the case where we are from. I appreciated that! The service was pretty quick and there were a lot of cute dogs coming in and out with their owners while we were there. There was a lot of space and tables both inside and out. A wonderful place to fuel your body before hiking or just exploring downtown Madison. We were greeted warmly by the staff and felt instantly welcomed. We had the Malibu bagel and Santa Fe bagel, and both were incredible (grab plenty of napkins!). The salsa and the avocado relish on the respective bagels added to the overall blend of flavors. The iced coffee was delicious, and so was the chai tea latte; wonderful spice to the latter. Great place, too, to hang out and relax. read more

This was a much better experience than the last time when my cinnamon roll was nuked. This time I just had coffee before the Madison Historic Area Walking Tour a couple of blocks away. Service was very good and quick. I will admit that they have the best coffee in the area. It was piping hot and I still had time to relax and enjoy my coffee outside at one of their outside tables. For anyone interested in the walking tour it's the third Saturday of the month at 10 am. It's free but they do take donations. Madison is a treasure trove of beautiful architecture. read more

A great location with lots of natural sunlight. I'm sure the coffee and sandwiches are great (judging from the reviews) but it shouldn't take over 15 minutes on a slow afternoon to get 2 cold cut sandwiches. I was annoyed by the time because my husband and two little boys were waiting in the car, getting antsy after 10 minutes. My wife and I had a rare date morning on a Saturday trip to historic Madison. I had seen the sign for Red Roaster just outside of Clifty Falls State Park, and I was craving a good cold brew. We found red Roaster coffee right in the middle of town on the main road through Historic Madison while waking from antique shops and site seeing. The atmosphere was inviting and comfortable with a few window seats and a few tables. The counter was very standard coffee shop, and familiar. My first impression was that they have a better menu than Starbucks, but half the price. This was encouraging. I ordered an iced coffee with sweet cream, and it was delicious. My wife got a large hot chocolate, which was equally tasty. We sat and enjoyed our drinks while people watching the Main Street, all for the price of one drink at Starbucks. This was a very good experience and I recommend a stop here for any coffee lover visiting Madison. read more

I opted for the mango tropical tea on ice (delicious) - I recommend adding a splash of honey. You can thank me later. ;) My partner-in-crime opted for the strawberry smoothie drink which was a little on the processed (fake-y) side for my liking. I have to say, I'm not a coffee drinker, but winter calls for warm beverages especially when you've been exploring Madison all day. We wondered in to get a mug of something steamy and non-java. What we found was a sunny, airy place to enjoy a conversation and rest a bit. The small cafe offers a range of drinks as well as desserts and sandwiches. I ordered a chai latte and a peanut butter stacker and my friend went with a hot chocolate and a lemon bar. My chai was spicy and hot, but very watery. The dessert, on the other hand, was sublime! Layers of chocolate cake with crunch, peanut butter meringue, chocolate ganache and caramel were topped with candied peanuts. It reminded me of a Whatchamacallit bar. So delicious and a steal at under $4. I would have paid a lot more for this in a Louisville bakery or restaurant. I tasted the lemon bar which had a good flavor but would have been improved by a slight warming in microwave (as they had done with mine). The hot chocolate was as to be expected. Both were very reasonably priced. I'll stop by Red Roaster when I'm next in Madison. It's a sweet place to rest a bit and indulge in some tasty treats. read more

My husband liked the mango iced tea and I enjoyed my black tea lemonade. I stayed away from coffee so late in the afternoon, but slightly regretted my decision because it smelled so good in the cafe. They have some nice snack and light lunch choices - reminiscent of your big chain coffee store, but with the feel of a small town, hand made product. The service was friendly and quick. Red Roaster Coffee Company & Eatery is a small, locally owned shop that breathes the essence of Madison, Indiana. Prominently situated in the heart of Downtown, the shop is the perfect size. With large windows, customers are free to take in the view of this iconic American small town. With stools made from old bourbon barrels, there is no doubt that the shop is a stone's throw from Kentucky. If one doesn't want to sit on wooden stools or chairs, the eatery has a few comfy chairs in the corner. The Red Roaster has a basic coffee shop menu. They have a fine selection of fancy coffee drinks - you know, the tasty ones packed with sugar and have ingredients like mocha, whipped cream, and coconut milk. I know this because my girlfriend ordered one, but I drank half of it. Being me, I cannot remember the name of the drink, but it was an iced mocha latte with coconut milk. Yum! Of course, Red Roaster also has plenty of regular coffee as well - hot or iced. The best part of the Red Roaster experience for me was the staff. I was impressed with their diligence, as well as their ability to tell us all about the City of Madison.
