    Various chocolates purchased.

I never pass up a chocolate shop and Cocoa Safari is adorable. It's small but is well laid out and has plenty to chose from. We couldn't decide so went with dark chocolate malted milk balls, chocolate covered almonds, coconut clusters and a few other items. Luckily we had done plenty of walking around town 1st. Staff were very helpful. Stop in!

Another great local spot right in the heart of Madison. It's a small shop, but they have a lot of different chocolates to try! We bought a bag of malt balls + a chocolate pop - both were fantastic! And the size of those malt balls were no joke!! The staff in the shop were very friendly and helpful, and there were so many unique treats that it was hard to choose which one I wanted... Guess I'll have to come back for more ;)

Cocoa Safari Chocolates was such a fun find during my recent day trip to Madison. My friend who lives in Madison recommended it, and I'm so happy she did. This shop has so many sweet treats, like giant s'mores, truffles, bark, buckeyes and more. I'm still kicking myself for not buying some of the baby turtles or chocolate-dipped peanut butter Ritz crackers. All sound amazing. One of the employees told us that they make all of their chocolate treats in-house, which is very impressive. I did buy some black licorice for my step dad for Father's Day. (Yep, my stepdad is the one person who likes this stuff.) Cocoa Safari is such a great spot when exploring downtown Madison. A must-visit!

After reading some of the reviews, I guess people have wide expectations for what makes a good chocolate. I am not sure if things have changed over the 10 years this independent chocolate shop has been open, but I loved everything I purchased! First, note that all the chocolates are made in the back room. No importing from some large chocolate company is done here. Everything is made in small batches for freshness. I like that too! When I walked in, I was greeted and was able to move around easily in the lobby area outside the display counter of individual chocolates and the wall of packaged chocolates. I can't tell you how many chocolate shops I have had unfriendly staff, so I really appreciated being welcomed here. I noticed some small bags that I picked out. One was a dark chocolate pretzel bag. Another was a milk chocolate covered almond bag. They also carried a bag of mixed nuts (salted) that I grabbed as well. Note: I haven't tried any of their hand dipped individual chocolates yet, but I plan on doing that the next time I visit Madison. I was served right away and was soon on my way enjoying some of my purchases. Review #3401

    Perfect amount of whipped cream

I decided to seek out Cocoa Safari after a friend, who is a fellow Yelper and chocoholic, gave me a heads up. On a chilly Saturday, a steamy cup of hot chocolate seemed like the perfect treat while window shopping down Main Street. The address listed on Yelp is either old or another location (I'm guessing old) as I found Cocoa Safari on Main near The Red Roaster. The shop is dominated by a candy counter on one side and shelving chocked full of baggies on the other. You can pick up anything and everything chocolate covered from almonds to gummi bears. The counter showcases amazing and decadent treats including giant s'mores, chocolate-dipped cookies, and truffles. I ordered my hot chocolate, but couldn't resist also taking a huge turtle home with me. The confection was so large, palm-sized, that it should have been considered a tortoise. The rich and creamy, hot chocolate was topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. At $3.95, the cost was on par with coffee shops, but the quality was much better. The turtle, like e other candies, were priced by weight. It was well worth the $5 as the chewy caramel perfectly complimented the milk chocolate and crunchy pecans. I'll definitely stop in again on my next trip to Madison!

Milk chocolate s'mores with handmade marshmallow

Nice chocolate shop in the heart of Main Street Madison. Friendly service and the treats are hand made on site. You can purchase pre-packaged items at a reasonable price for such quality. There is also a nice display case of choices. We opted for pre-packaged milk chocolate covered gummy bears and dark chocolate covered espresso beans. Haven't had either yet. But we did eat our massive "tortoise" (big soft gooey caramel with whole pecans and chocolate) and hand dipped s'more. I bought both in milk chocolate and they were so good. The chocolate melts in your mouth, not waxy at all! The s'more had 2 milk chocolate covered grahams and sandwiched between was a white chocolate covered HOMEMADE vanilla marshmallow that was so soft and fresh. We got the last s'more today! They must make small batches because there were limited quantities- however, you know what you are getting is fresh. Will definitely stop back in when we come back to Madison!

While doing my research on Madison, I kept coming across Cocoa Safari. So Cocoa Safari earned a firm spot on my list of places to visit while in town. The store is somewhat small and very cute. I loved how consistent the safari theme was throughout the store. There was a wide variety of different chocolates and truffles for sale. I must admit that it is a little on the pricey side though. I ended up getting a small bag of dark chocolate covered espresso beans, which was $3.99. I also got two crystallized Gingers dipped in dark chocolate and a milk chocolate covered tortoise. My total for all of this was about $10. All in all, this is a nice shop on Main Street in Madison! The staff was very friendly and all the chocolates were delicious.

Lots of chocolate options. Some items pre-packaged but you can pick and choose as the case confectionaries are by the pound.

They are a tiny store, you can easily miss them, but they do set right off the road with good signage. The lot is small, but adequate. My visit was on a weekday in the Spring and they were not busy. I was greeted warmly and offered a sample of one of their well know bourbon candies with a single pecan on it. Of course I enjoyed and have actually had before. They make the chocolates for many of the distilleries in the area and have for decades. The business itself dates back to 1919. I did not do a tour, but it appears they offer. Ruth's offer a lot of variety and I do mean a lot! They also some of the branded boxes like Makers Mark. The service was top notch as everything was explained. I decided on a non bourbon chocolate so my wife could enjoy too. So I ordered a half pound of three varieties of chocolate (white, dark, milk) with almonds. The chocolate's in the case are put in their own box, as opposed to the gift boxes. I really enjoyed after returning from my trip, wife too! Easy 5 stars and will return at some point.

For 120 years, Anna's family passed this amazing recipe down & after working in her parents basement she now sells all over the world, even to Williams Sonoma. And now Vegas regularly. I'd rather visit the factory when in Kentucky cause they make the candies & package them freshly for you right there. Also to visit w/ Anna, she's such a wonderful passionate woman. Huge fan of the Bourbon Sea Salt Caramels mmm... perfect amount of salt to keep you wanting another piece. The Chocolate Modjeska's are what I wish I had for my s'mores since I was a lil kid! The Original Caramel Modjeska's are not only divine alone, but quarter them & the Bourbon Seat Salt on top of your sweet potatoes. Oh, heavens! Homemade, down to the marshmallow in the middle and I'll never like regular store bought marshmallows again. Also we got a recipe for the Modjeska's from the Food Network. Perfect lil gift from the heart & soul of Kentucky & for yourself & loved ones. I have been a regular since October & have gifted many people including my horse grooms cause I wanna share it w/ everyone. Mmm it's so good!
